Review Denis The Menace - Richmond

Big fan of this place. Have been here previously can say hand on the heart that their food is great. My personal go to recommendations are the chilli scrambled egg, and also the chicken salads. Their service is also on point and they are so warm to customers which is awesome. The ambience of the cafe is nice too and screams quintessential Melbourne. A cafe that is always worth the visit!

This cafe inside decoration is amazing. The seating as well. We had drinks there and it was as expected tasty and strong. The location is not that good but really it deserve a try. Although the services here is good and all staff were friendly. I do recommend this cafes for all

What a great space for a neighbourhood cafe! Many different seating arrangements and loved the booths! I went on the weekend which was a blessing with car spots on this little one way street. Has an outdoor area for your fur baby which is always a win in my books! Chose the big breakfast and it was okay- it needed some flavour and same for the Spanish eggs too. A sauce or dressing would have liven up the dishes. Coffee wasn’t too bad either! Service was okay and can improve with attentiveness too. Overall a good cafe to check out!

Firstly I love the name of this cafe! It does have a Dennis the menace painting on its front to which is really cool. I didn’t expect this place to be so big but the interior is wonderful and really sets a tone for the place. The food was delicious. Eggs poached to perfection which is always key for Me.

Unfortunately when we visited the coffee machine was broken so no coffees on a Saturday morning! It was eventually fixed and when the coffees arrived they weren't great. However the front courtyard was lovely sitting in the sun, pooch friendly! Loved the cold slightly sparking water that was provided. Food was delicious, I had french toast special which was generous and lots of fruit, not too sickly sweet. I'd go back but probably skip the coffee next time.

Great cafe tucked away in the quieter back streets of Cremorne. Trendy space which is fun, bright, open and relaxed. Inside and outside seating available. Menu is well covered from healthy, naughty and everything in between. Good for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Staff are friendly although not super attentive. Coffee is good too with a full selection too. Definitely worth a visit. Also one of the best smashed avo's I've had!

Good cafe. Was quiet-ish when we visited on a Thursday morning. Coffee was great and food too - tasty and well presented. Staff were nice and friendly.

The settings and the layout of this place is amazing. It may look small from the outside but it’s very spacious inside. Service was terrific and the wait for my take out meal was shorter than I expected. The Zia-Alice juice I ordered was made quite well. Sadly the let down was these chips, although they were cooked well for $6 they are clearly not worth your money.

Very slow, extremely understaffed!

Was pleasantly surprised by this place. <br/>This is my second time visiting this cafe again, and everything was better than I remembered.<br/>First off, service was very friendly. They offered to explain/recommend the menu when me and my friend were indecisive on what to choose. There were just too many good options on the menu/specials.<br/>They also checked in on us with how we are going on the food and drinks, if we needed anything more or if we are enjoying our meal.<br/>For food, the fritters are one of the best I’ve tasted. It wasn’t oily, but overly fried but charred enough to be crispy and crunchy. The inside was so soft and full of peas 😋 delicious!<br/>Coffee here is good too! I ordered the cold brew and thankfully it was too diluted even after the ice melted. The coffee here is strong and just brewed to my liking. The iced coffee my friend had was good too, not too sweet or bitter with the right amount of ice cream.<br/>Hope this cafe will keep it up and bring it up a notch again when I come back to visit for the third time!!

Came here for breakfast and nestled into the lovely timber booth with a friend and perused the menu. If it had been warmer we'd have sat outside. Because we were a little hung over, we had the martini - at 11am! I know - save me! We needed protein so ordered the burger. Portion size was good. But heck it was good. Staff were so friendly and quick to serve.<br/><br/>Takeaway available. Dietaries catered for. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible. Reasonable parking but it is one way to be careful. Plus parking inspectors are dynamite.

We had a great brunch here with coffee, juices and a cheeky breakfast martini. <br/>I enjoyed the sweet potato waffles with slow braised beef and a deliciously oozy egg. My friends enjoyed the stuffed mushroom special and the salad for soul with grilled salmon. Really enjoyed the food and the service was great.

What a cool quirky cafe with an awesome name and menu! The outside of this building I love with it’s very own Denis on the wall out front and cool coloured walls! <br/><br/>The place inside is pretty big, a lot of space, it looks really cool and I like the way it is set up. <br/><br/>The staff were great. Upon arrival water was provided straight away. And a drinks order was taken. <br/><br/>I love the menu, it has a lot of healthy options as well as a few cheeky ones. They also have chicken as an add on which is a big bonus in my books.<br/><br/>I ordered the salad for soul and my friend ordered the bang bang chicken. The portion for both were quality. My bowl was bursting with green goodness with an egg and chicken. <br/><br/>It was all really really tasty. <br/>Extra points for the Mr Men mugs on the table too<br/><br/>9/10

This place is a hidden gem! The cafe itself is just so lovely, relaxing - perfect for brunch! They are spacious -having both indoor and outdoor areas. We had latte and green juice to start. The coffee was good and the juice was refreshing! Then we ordered one special of the week menu - Sweet corn and pumpkin fritters, and two regular menus 1. Tapioca Pudding and Rosemary and garlic sweet potato waffle. Our favourite is the fritters that was served with cured salmon, Japanese seaweed, slaw and poached egg. It was so favourful but yet healthy! Love it! <br/><br/> The staff was attentive and friendly! <br/><br/>Thanks for having us!
Quince And Cheese
Denis the Menace is a large and light-filled cafe somewhere between Cremorne and Richmond. I visited for lunch on a weekday, which was the ideal time to visit the venue. I was warmly greater and seated and served sparkling water from a flask as I waited for my dining partners to arrive. Once they did, a hot soy flat white was my first order. It was not super hot but otherwise great. For a meal, I tried the Salad for Soul plus a side of hash browns. The side was quite generous and the potato complemented the salad well. I appreciated that the dressing was made with tamarind, an interesting alternative to what otherwise could have been a citrus or mustard-based sauce. While it was nice to get a hearty dose of healthy greens, my favourite thing about the salad was the giant slab of haloumi that sat on top. Give me any sort of salty cheese and I'm going to be happy. My salad made for a very well balanced meal that I would gladly eat again.
Bigmelbappetite
Wow! This space was incredible to walk into. High ceilings and such a large open plan. Loved the vibe and the food! Unlike a lot of other cafes they have a huge selection of salads which are so tasty. A must visit!
Decent Feed
Denis the Menace, tucked away in the streets of Cremorne offers familiar brunch staples as well as some more left-field, but delicious mains. <br/><br/>Amongst them was the Katsu Chicken, with its very recognisable, hearty Japanese curry taste. It was served up with a big splash of purple pickles, its appearance and plating differentiating itself from a more traditional looking Katsu curry that you'd find at a Japanese restaurant. Taste-wise, the dish matched its traditional rendition pound for pound with its succulent and sizeable portion of chicken making it a very worthwhile order. <br/><br/>My partner ordered the Running Late Wrap with mushroom and although undoubtedly healthy and packed with its filling of mushroom and scrambled eggs, it was a tad bland flavour-wise. Be prepared to make use of your knife and fork to finish this chunky wrap.<br/>

Parking was easy as there were lots of spaces out front. When we arrived, I didn’t think the place was too big but I was wrong. The space opens up beautifully with a variety of booths and tables. I really enjoyed reading the menu here and there were certainly a few things that appealed to me. In the end, I went with the Rosemary and Garlic Potato Waffles ($22), how amazing do they sound! Mr. B went with Ava Smashing Time ($22) and added extra eggs and toast..because that’s what he likes to do.

A large space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, we immediately felt comfortable at Denis the Menace. We sat at the large communal table, and I loved all the greenery. Service was quick and efficient, and our waiter was extremely friendly.<br/><br/>The banana bread was plentiful and delicious. Being slightly toasted, it went perfectly with the ricotta on the side. Coffee was so good we grabbed a takeaway as we left.<br/><br/>We look forward to coming back for a more substantial brunch.

Great hidden away cafe in the back streets so parking is not a problem during the day nearby. Plenty of room both inside and outside. Fantastic service and not packed that you have to line up here. I tried their waffle and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and tasty with the taste of herbs in it. Egg was poached perfectly. Food was amazing and coffees are good. I look forward to coming here more often to try the other dishes on the menu. Keep up the good work!

We really enjoyed our experience here! We had eggs Benedict (can't go wrong) and the salad with haloumi and added a poached egg 🥚. We also had a chai latte and fresh juice. Food was yummy and service was good too :)

**3.5 stars** We tried two of the dishes from the Spring menu here; Ava Smashing Time ($22) & Melon Melange ($17.5). They were beautifully presented with lots of colourful ingredients to match. My only qualm was the ‘fresh berries’ listed in the Melon Melange was just strawberries. It’d be nice to be more specific, like the other ingredients in the dish. Anyway, the plate just tasted of fresh fruits plus a scoop of citrus yoghurt and a small amount of roasted granola - healthy but nothing special. The Ava Smash was different... with the potato rosti doing a good job of filling the stomach. We weren’t fans of the melted danish feta though.<br/><br/>I found the ambience spacious and trendy while the staff were welcoming and service was prompt.

Ordered the Switchblade Sam Sanga - honestly I was very disappointed. No taste ...the burger buns were poor quality have eaten better from the supermarket. Highly recommend the owners to remove it from the menu - you would expect a tasty veggie burger for $19. Didn’t expect only one piece of mushroom and lettuce with halloumi plus the soggy sweet potato chips didn’t help. On a separate note - the staff are pleasant hence the 2 stars

New menu now. I ordered the bowel with oats and fruit for $17.50. Hardly any oats and a spoon full of yoghurt, pretty disappointed as I loved there Açaí bowel which they no longer have.

Came across this place taking a short cut through Richmond. When we arrived the place wasn’t very busy, we walked through and picked up a menu and sat down. Sat directly out the front in the seated area. Approx 30 min in no one had approached us to see if we wanted anything. I waved at one of the staff but they proceeded to take someone’s order inside. I then waited another 15 min and tried again. Still nothing. We left. If I wasn’t with such amazing company I would have not stayed there that long but was enjoying my conversation. Staff need to wipe down the tables and do their job. Not impressed and won’t be back!
Ralena
Very nice setting, nice outdoor space. But omg what a pushy waiter! He kept coming every 30sec like taking our order was the mission of his day. Food was good, at least!
Stuart Cunningham
Awesome cafe tucked away in the hidden areas of Cremorne. Beautiful cafe with greenery all around.<br/>Food was excellent and the batch brew was perfect.<br/>The smashed avo was really good, especially the creamy feta and corn 👌🏼<br/>Will definitely be back
Fork Yass
WATASHI WA DENIS | rolled omelette, shitake mushrooms, sesame, seaweed, avocado and ginger miso sauce. 🍴🍴🍴/5 #forkyass #forkyassmelb<br/><br/>Watashi wa Denis is a dish inspired by Japanese ingredients. The shitake adds juiciness to the dish while the not dancing bonito flakes adds some savouriness. Relative to serving avocado smashed and fresh, the avocado is mixed through the omlette and was warm. The miso adds a kick to the dish but more sauce would have been desirable. While the dish is earthy, I can't help feeling the dish misses elements to elevate its flavours.

I loved the interior design. Very spacious and environmentally friendly. Great service and friendly workers. The food was absolutely great and filling and I enjoyed my chai latte. No negatives about this place! Recommend this place for those looking for a big but cheap breakfast
Linda
Funky interior that has been let down by its coffee, menu and baked goods selection. The place had poor exhaust, so we left smelling like brunch also. Service was commendable though.
Johnno
Stopped by on a Sunday for a (very) late breakfast. The worst of the crowds had gone so it wasn't as busy as it would have been a couple of hours earlier. Service was great. Coffee also good and the food was great as well.
Lfan0002
It’s our first time to Denis The Menace. Great service, delicious food. I ordered ice coffee and Baked eggs with hash browns. I love the Baked eggs. This is the special dish. It’s quite Neil to have the warm dish in winter.
Jalena
Just an overall great cafe! Delicious food and lovely staff. Highly recommend the Don Katsu and the green juice! Definitely a must go, suitable for small and large groups.
Alex
This place is in a corner pocket of Richmond and is a hidden gem. Came here with a few friends and sat outside on a sunny day. The staff was amazing! Definitely worth the venture out of the typical brunch places.
Jason Chew
Coffees were spot on, and the food innovative yet tasty. Vibe is super relaxed and is a great spot to enjoy brekkie in peace! Defo coming back.

Went here a few months ago after the lunch rush- place was almost empty. We waited an hour and a half for our food to come out and they stuffed up my partner's order too. In the end, food wasnt worth it unfortunately- I ordered a salad drenched in oily dressing it was very displeasing to eat as it was soggy. My partner had their version of a big breakfast that was below average- nothing special.<br/>The manager was nice to take our drinks off our bill but still disappointed it didnt live up to it's hype. Sorry but won't be back
Ignatia
The place has nice ambience with good service, but food wise it was not really impressive. I ordered Massive Massaman which was indeed massive (I could not finish it) but tasted really mediocre. Maybe I should have played it safe by ordering avo on toast, eggs benedict or some sorts.
Ada Chung
It was pretty cold outside so I was craving some warm comfort food. I ended up ordering the katsu curry with grilled chicken instead of fried, and a flat white. The curry was hearty and warming, with Kim Chi, bak choy, potatoes, a generous serve of flavored rice in a delicious pool of Japanese curry.<br/><br/>I’m probably biased, but I loved the meal and the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, they were open to me making variations on the menu. Coffee was solid. Overall a great place for a group lunch, kid, pet and cyclist friendly. Would recommend.

Friendly service,Beautiful enviroment,Delicious food,Tidy opening kitchen. It is the best brunch i have ever tasted. Every flavor is just right for tasting!

Went to this cozy place ordered savoury French toast with poached eggs, it was very unique and flavoursome.<br/>I would highly recommend this Cafe 😉

The most beautiful 15 hour slow cooked Lamb Shank with lovely rice and sauces yum yum<br/>My Husband had the Salmon Stack with Tropical Salsa. We intend to go back again to have the same dishes. Great service and atmosphere. Highly Recommend. Also easy parking available.<br/>Wendy and Josh.

Fantastic salmon cheviche will come back for more tomorrow service and food was excellent I highly recommend people to come out and try Dennis the menace have so much more to give

Went on a Sunday and the service was verrry slow. I don't know if they were short staffed, because I can't imagine the place would be so popular if it is always like this. We had to ask for our missing drinks order well after our food eventually arrived. I had the watermelon crunch dish which is a kind of acai bowl. It tasted nice but there was no crunch! It was more of a chewy granola which is not my preference. The venue is nice and the staff were nice, just not great service.

Denis The Mence takes bookings & split bills! Staff were very friendly but besides that I can’t really give them much praise for the food. I ordered the Running Late Roti & it was so disappointing. The portion was generous but the scrambled eggs was an over cooked omelette. The roti was thick & unenjoyable to eat. It was very busy so there was a long wait for food & drinks.
Eat Talk Laugh
This place has been on my bookmark list for a while so I was keen to try it out.<br/><br/>I wish I could give it a better rating but something just wasn't quite right. We walked out satisfied but not with that feeling of 'I want to go back again.'<br/><br/>Maybe it was the fact that we were seated at a tiny table in a tiny corner of the cafe - no joke, the waiter had to pass our drinks and food over the table beside us as she couldn't get to our table 🤔 Very good at making use of every inch of space...<br/><br/>Maybe it was because when the rain started pouring, I could feel drips of water and wondered how much longer the roof was going to hold up before we all got soaked. 😕<br/><br/>Or maybe it was because the coffee was just ok - nothing amazing which is disappointing as there as so many good coffee places around this cafe.<br/><br/>But the food was good. I'd go back to eat the slow roasted lamb shanks again...just what I felt like on a cold winters day...apparently the bang bang salad was also really good.<br/><br/>So a mixed experience - really enjoyed the food but not so much the atmosphere...

Called in here for brunch today w all the colourful signposting. This cafe in an industrial area of Richmond was easy to spot. <br/><br/>The service was friendly and the lovely waitress was very chatty. I had a coffee which was awful! The milk was burnt and the coffee tasted bitter. I had to ask for another coffee and this time the coffee was boiling hot again ana milky. 0/5 <br/><br/>To eat I had a pulled pork benedict on muffins and this was really good. The poached eggs wee spot on, the pulled pork delicious. <br/><br/>I’d rate this place higher but the coffee brings the rating down.
Dan K
What’s with the attitude of the staff? Do they think they are cool being so sulky and disengaged? Sighing as you ask them to split the bill, rolling their eyes. Seriously. Food was ok. Nothing special. Coffee tasted like ass. This place will fade into obscurity if they don’t step up their customer relations and fix their coffee.
Ash91murphy
Like other reviews have mentioned, the service here isn’t great and both staff members who served our table were unwelcoming and not one bit friendly. Not one smile was shown from either of them! The food was tasty but why would you return here when you can get plenty of tasty food elsewhere with a much more enjoyable environment.
Joseph Newton
Finished food and drinks, when the manager came over and said ' hey guys, I'm going to need this table soon' while making the thumbs over his shoulder sign.  Been buying food and drinks here regularly but won't be coming back.
AJ
This place was the best, I actually love this place i have not had any food like it! The salad was the best thing I have ever had! I also like loved the masuman curry!
Julie Do
The food and coffee here never disappoints I had the salad and it was delicious and satisfying, the service was a bit of a letdown on this occasion anyway. We booked a table of twelve for a team brunch and the waiter who could have been the manager was abrupt and a little rude making sure to correct my friend and educate him about his coffee order. He lightened up by the end of the meal and we managed to have a great time despite the minor hiccup.

Do you remember years ago Hungry Jacks made an ad about how messy it is to eat their burgers that you'd have to man spread so that the sauces would not go on your clothes? That's what this place also needs to do. It is a true sign of an awesome burger when the juice is running down your arm as you eat. Some secret recipe they've got here because the meat was just unreal and having it in a brioche bun just made it even better. Yum yum and highly recommended.
Julia Stehli
Great large cafe with amazing interior design, delicious coffee and very friendly staff. My partner had the raisin toast which came in a huge portion and was yum. I had greens with an egg and salmon. The arrangement of my dish could have been a bit more elaborated, but the rest of the experience made up for it.
Diana
Great food, friendly and attentive staff, amazing ambience....perfect brunch venue. Naughty breakfast is lovely and filling...chai latte well made
Mariel Mendoza
Found this place by accident: Awesome vibe, food and service. <br/><br/>Recommend the orange French toast! Cool hidden spot in the suburbs, will come back again!
Elwoodlocal
The WORST service but great food. It's the kind of place that you're made to feel unwelcome from the moment you walk in until you have to ask to split your bill. No one offers you a table or acknowledges your presence and once you brave asking for one, you're treated as an inconvenience by the terribly unfriendly staff. Best dish is definitely the Massaman Beef but I'm not sure it's worth going back if I have to endure the outright rude and inattentive staff.
Ruby
Lovely helpful staff, tasty food, and great coffee. A wonderful space for afternoon catch ups with friends. And a stones throw from East Richmond station
Ashlee Dawson
Food was delicious, service was great, tonnes of menu options for my pregnant coeliac friend, we have already discussed that we will return!
Alwayshungry
Amazing food, not so amazing service ! Went there on a cold Sunday morning for brunch with a friend. When we walked in, there were only 3 tables taken and the rest were available inside. Somehow the waitress lead us to back area coz there were tables for only 2 ppl. We asked if we can still sit inside coz outside is a bit cold and the space between each table is very tight. She insisted. We ended up eating our food in the cold. Anyways, this cafe is very nice and I love the decor.
The Domestic Traveller
Ok. First of all, I have tasted a lot of Massaman Curry but this thing is the bomb. Purely as it’s so far out there that it made me sit up and take notice. The rice was still cooking in the stew which I found fascinating. Then the chopped cashews? Omg. It was done so well. And the shaved toppings. Holy hell it was amazing. And the lamb. Oh that sweet delectable lamb that just melted off the bone. My gosh it was heavenly. Seriously? It was worth it.
Evelyn
Have been here twice now and both times have had fantastic service, been able to get a table quickly and the food was great! Great place for a group catch up with large tables and booths. Tucked away in a little side street away from the traffic, the greenery and set up is perfect. The muffins are amazing, however the hotcake special was a little dry. Friends who had coffees said the coffee was great and enjoyed their meals.
Sheemal Visun
Cute warehouse themed cafe serving great breakfast. The place is not too far away from church street and has ample parking outside the cafe. Is also dog friendly with plenty of tables set up outside so you can enjoy Sunday brunches with your furry friends. <br/><br/>The decor is very industrial like inside and has booths which are perfect for large groups. <br/><br/>Definitely worth checking it out if in Richmond area. <br/>
Good Food, Good Mood
This cafe is very Cremorne/Richmond trendy. Staff are always lovely and coffee is GOOD. They also serve sparkling water instead of tap. Ordered the open steak sanga which was average. Their beef burger is top notch though. I'd definitely go back to try the Japanese fusion dishes!
Hannah Stewart
Nice little cafe tucked away in Richmond, Good almond latte and fairly prompt service. We both ordered the Watashi Wa Denis which was very yum! Filled with plump prawns and hits of chilli. Not an amazing experience nothing really stood out at us but willing to give it a go again. So many other items on the menu we want to try!
Matt Kaplan
I think this restaurant is really amazing and a really cool place also has a beautiful Asian twist to the Bircher muesli. My Mac and cheese burger was stunning another thing to add was it was great service.
Janet Abadee
Came in this morning for a bday treat.  Great atmosphere, greeted at door<br/>Ordered the Bircher which was amazing it had a Asian twist and dairy free. The burger with Mac and cheese was up there with the best.  Will definitely come back. It would be a great place to have a function or a event.
Mrs Mark
Friendly service and cool setting. I had the Bircher which was more like a black rice pudding served in a coconut. It didn't really do it for me and the flavour was quite bland. Although they gave me a steak knife to eat the coconut with it was quite impractical.
Sarah
Such a cute cafe hidden away in the backstreets of Cremorne. The muesli tasted as good as it looked. Will definitely be back to eat my way through the menu!
Good Food Good Mood
Wow I'd hardly call a paper thin layer of acai an 'acai bowl' you can literally tell from my photo it's even thinner than a crepe. I ended up eating half my partner's Bircher which was at least more substantial. The menu reads humorously and I was excited when I arrived at the warehouse conversion to see beautiful wooden furnishings and forget greenery there was full on fruit treee. It was quirky, grungy and apparently environmentally friendly having been constructed sustainably by recycled materials. So I was marvelling at the fitout (whilst starving) and then I learned that this spot is owned by Adam Wilkinson. Sorry to say but Dennis the Menace much like Adam's predecessor in St Edmonds is all style and no substance. The best thing about this place is its cheeky name
Edward Schweitzer
Usually really lovely service, great space and love the free sparkling water. Food is usually on point without over-delivering . Can be a bit slow when super busy. Recommended if in area.<br/><br/>UPDATE::::: Went here recently and think it might of changed hands... really disappointing. Big breaky was bland as hell. Menu has changed. Prices gone up. :(
Teomelvin39
Food: Was never disappointed with the polenta toast. The bold ham hock was compensated with plain polenta toast. Eggs were done to perfection. Probably, it would be better to top with some herbs to create a more sophisticated flavour.<br/><br/>Coffee: Medium roasted coffee brewed to perfection.<br/><br/>Service: Certainly, it could improve a little by smiling and genuninely want to be there.
TP
I have always loved the food but lately there have been service issues. At Dennis time is not an issue. The other Saturday i was the only person  there early in the morning and had to wait 15 minutes for  a prepared breakfast wrap. The reason, it goes to the kitchen who have other priorities ( not customers) such as cutting slicing mixing other items, Next day lunch very busy as the decor and layout is great, friendly service always but again.. slow.. 20ms for a coffee. . Yes i the place is full but..
Ta.be.tabi
I admit I’ve never seen the show or movie or even read the comic, but the phrase Denis the Menace was always thrown around as a joke during my high school days. The cafe, named after this little troublemaker, is located in Cremorne which is a inner suburb that shares the same 3121 postcode as Richmond.
Hungry Piksee
Lovely venue, great service, food was mostly good but a bit smaller than what I was expecting and flavours were good but didn't quite nail it for me. Would try again. Also it was very kid and baby friendly.
Fiona Le
Here is a cafe that really suits Richmond, I nearly walked past it thinking it was a garage. Walking in just made me want to stay, so here I am sitting in this trendy hidden cafe. If you come here, relax and stay.. it has that type of atmosphere. I ordered Almond Milk latte which was average but the Big Green Food Fight Salad was amazing, I can't fault it and the greens in there are R-A-W! How did they make raw taste amazing.. I would order this everyday if it wasn't so pricey $17 but I will def catch up w friends at this cafe in the near future.
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
Busy cafe just behind Church St. Outdoor and indoor areas are really nice - very chilled and comfortable vibe. The boys that were working were really friendly. Meals came within 5 minutes of ordering them. Food was yum but the servings were small. All 3 of us girls were still hungry after we were finished.
Evy
This places looks like a warehouse or automotive garage space, converted to a trendy industrial style restaurant, located amongst cute cottages in the quiet back streets of Richmond.<br/>We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed excellent coffees to start.<br/>The menu was great, with a reasonable variety. I had an eggs benny (you order eggs on toast adding whatever sides you like). One egg was soft, the other not. The hollandaise sauce was beautiful homemade deliciousness served in a side dish. The sourdough toast and bacon were also great.<br/>My companions meals looked beautiful too.<br/>By the time we left, the place was full.
Caitlin White
What a Melbourne-esque place this is! Hiding down a small side street, this bright and inviting cafe is certainly a must for anyone in the area. It's light and airy and the vibe is just really cool. Mineral water on tap delighted me from the start and the menu that followed was equally exciting. Service was good, waitress may have been new as she didn't seem to know a lot about the menu but still attentive and friendly. For coffee lovers out there - they coffee was spot on for temperature and taste. Food was fresh and interesting and the open kitchen did an excellent job of showcasing the clean and skill full work of the chefs. Will definitely be returning!

Have been here for take away coffee a few times so decided to do breakfast. This is a really cool place which was an old warehouse. Service was prompt and the menu diverse. The meal was outstanding. Great flavours in the Frenchmans toast and the Bircher muesli. Coffee here is really good. Will certainly be back.
Teresa
Tried the Fish of the day, which was almond encrusted tuna with brocollini, avocado & walnut. It was sensational!! <br/>As always, coffee was also a highlight. I love that sparkling water is free and on tap.
Steph A
Came here today and the atmosphere was awesome and the interior of the cafe is nice and open. The coffee here is great and the food was fantastic!
David Food Leasing
DO: The coffees for sure. But also, their takeaway options are great for those in a rush. I had the bacon and egg Wrap. Superb. <br/><br/>DON'T: Rush. Sit down and enjoy their brunch menu. <br/><br/>TIP: Parking is horrible and so tight on that street. I opted to park on the cross street and walk down.

3.5/5 - Such a lovely tucked away venue with loads of seating perfect for little ones too! <br/><br/>Staff were great (blue/green hair waitress was amazing) and the coffees good (my decaf was very good too) <br/><br/>But for such a child friendly place the "chocolate milk" tasted like dirt - I know they're trying to be "healthy" but when chips and fried stuff are on the menu who cares! Just have some chocolate milk powder or syrup on the go so little ones don't suck up chunks of random bitter stuff. <br/><br/>The 2 X chicken burgers were very fresh and tasty with lots of zingy flavours. Chips though for $4 bucks a bit steep though. <br/><br/>My Frenchman's toast was dry as... Ate a quarter as the rhubarb was stringy and not cooked down enough. That was a 1/5 but the points go to the burgers coffee and service!
J0yy173
Busy lunchtime spot serving delicious cafe fare in an airy warehouse setting. The polenta toast had a smooth and tasty truffled hollandaise sauce with the sage butter and gruyere polenta toast, ham hock, lettuce, asparagus and 2 poached eggs. Serving size was just right, service was quick and plenty of ambience in a funky space.

I've been to DTM once before & had a great experience so returned there today with friends & family (3 adults & 2 boys). <br/><br/>Apparently by arriving at 12.15pm, as told to us by the very pleasant wait staff, we had missed the morning "rush" so the cafe was not busy at all. <br/><br/>The food here is certainly of a good, consistent quality, reasonably well priced (although for the asking price of $17 for a burger you would expect chips to be included & not a $4 add-on!!) & certainly very creative in terms of the clever use of fresh ingredients. <br/><br/>The menu items aren't what you could describe as child friendly - or overly suitable for people with allergies for that matter as there is a minefield of potential allergens & cross contamination as my son with allergies discovered - & the waiter readily admitted that there are no milky drinks on the menu that are "suitable" for children (eg. no milkshakes & dark hot chocolate with either coconut blossom sugar or river salt) & no attempt was made to offer a more child friendly alternative. <br/><br/>However having said all that, I readily acknowledge that children & families are not the target demographic for eateries north of the Yarra as most cafés are child free zones in this postcode 😉. Yet those of us who reside south of the Yarra love venturing across to the island every now & then!!

A really cool venue and the coffee and service was good. I didn't particularly like what I ordered although it might just be my taste, I had the watashi wa Denis, the flavours were a bit odd for me and VERY seafoody, the flakes on top (the ones that didn't blow on to the people sitting next to me) were like fish food. The person I was with enjoyed there's but their kale chips actually tasted of burnt rubber. Would go back to try something else on the menu.

Spacious warehouse gives industrial feel but still cozy on booth along the wall with high ceiling and small orange trees in between. Both coffee and food are well presented and made; good place to visit when you're in the area.

This place is a great find at the end of Chestnut Street! Great coffee and food! The staff are super friendly too! An awesome way to start my mornings!
FOOD TRIP
Massive warehouse converted into a trendy, bright and cheerful café. The exteriors follow the theme of Dennis The Menace – it’s fun, cheeky and very welcoming. Menu is extensive, with a large portion of options leaning towards the healthier side of life. Great place to hang out and the food is worth trying out.

Horrible Customer Service and uncomfortable venue! Needed to dry clean all my clothes because of the stink.<br/><br/>30 minutes for the food to come out is not the worst but forgetting to bring one of my order is disgrace. <br/><br/>Would never visit here again and would never recommend this place to anyone.

Great venue and the coffee was good but I was underwhelmed by the avo smash - it was flavourless. A shame because i was really looking forward to trying this place out. Ventilation in the place isn't the best either, my clothes (and skin) smelt and still smell of the kitchen. I will go back but maybe in summer and I'll try something else out.

Nice enough venue. Nothing spectacular just a big converted warehouse...seen all of the trimmings and decor in most other cafes. Seated promptly for a Sunday morning however was a bit disappointed with the lack of 'full meal' breakfast items, 4 of them and none with bacon and egg combined. Anyway after a while of trying to decide I got eggs Benedict (which I would never get but there was a big lack of choice) and at 19 bux with meat I thought it'd rock. It was the rock hard sourdough bread with ham cheese and tomato with an egg on top. An open ham cheese and tomato grill with egg. The egg was poached a little on the hard side and the meal was not enjoyable. My friend got a kale and egg and something which he did not enjoy either. Its slim pickings for restaurants in that immedeate area hence the busyness. Coffee was a solid 6 out of 10 also. <br/>

We had a nice time, the place is lovely, staff were delightful , with great service and amazing food :) Definitely I will be back again with some friends. <br/>

I'm a chef myself, I've been here recently for brunch. Great food, great coffee, super friendly staff and great atmosphere. Absolutely a 5/5

I really enjoyed my lunch and loved the venue and friendly staff. Love the recycled timber interior and random toys as plant pots. I had the crispiest skinned pan fried fish i've ever had (very memorable), onto of a healthy radicchio salad and a smearing of creamy deliciousness. There's still many dishes on the menu i'd like to try next time.<br/><br/>It pains me then that I am giving them only 3.5/5. Look, their food is amazing but this is a place people GO for coffee and their coffee was just shocking, flat white, tasted like something I grab quickly at uni when i'm too lazy to go elsewhere.

A real surprise spot to find. The food and service was excellent. The ambience was great as well. What we liked was the quality of the food as well as the broad range offered.

Denis is my favourite local. Great Food. Unreal coffee. Awesome vibe. People friendly. Animal friendly. <br/><br/>It has all you could ask for from a Melbourne cafe. <br/><br/>Would highly recommend you get down there and try it out.

We go to Denis the Menace everyday, it is without a doubt the best place to get a flat white in the whole of East Richmond.

Denis The Menace has become my favourite place to get a morning, mid-morning, lunch and afternoon coffee! Great service, awesome coffee accompanied with a fantastic vibe. Bliss! Thanks guys :)

Denis is legit 10/10 when it comes to fantastic service, delicious food and exquisite coffee!<br/>My colleagues and I frequent there next to every other day to get our caffeine fix (got to get to Friday somehow, am I right?!) and are always greeted a smile as warm as my flat white! <br/>If divine coffee is not enough, check out the 'running late roti' - an office favourite for some of us who just can't make it out of bed in time to make the bosses happy! LOL<br/>Denis is always happy to cater for our rowdy office lunches - our birthday outings can be quite the event when you get 12 accountants together! <br/><br/>Jokes aside, if superb coffee, friendly & attentive (and not to mention easy on the eyes (pretty much all 10's)) staff and delicious food is your cup of tea (or coffee, lmfao!) then pop into Denis the Menace for a breakfast, brunch or lunch that will have you coming back for more - this crazy bunch just can't stay away!<br/><br/>Keep up the great job you crazy Menaces!

Nice fit out and good size so easy to get a table which is nice! Food was good, but nothing to get really excited about. We had the eggs Benedict and smashed avo, both were nice but pretty standard, my eggs Benedict were a bit cold. Friendly staff and would probably return but not rushing back!<br/>Updated Sept 2017- went back, and food was very good!

Cool fit out. Yummy food. Great coffee. Pretty good service. Not a great deal of atmosphere or menu variety, but I live in Melbourne - we're spoiled for choices.

Had around 4-5 items on the menu. All sounded great, all texture and no flavour. Decided to return hoping the first experience was just a one off (plus I love around and corner so I was a hopin' and a prayin' that the first dining experience was just a glitch in the matrix), nope, just bad food. Majority of the reviews here are all about the decor, yes it's nice, but it's not a gallery.

Ottimo posto per una buona colazione e anche per un pranzo leggero <br/>Vari piatti di ottima qualità ad un prezzo giusto <br/>Ci tornerei molto volentieri !!

Perfect Sunday. Love this Place! Healthy, delicious, generous serving, well priced and beautiful staff. Ticks all the boxes for me! Will definitely be back next Sunday to do all again!

This is one of those terrible dining experiences to top all of my terrible dining experiences. Sunday arvo, not very busy, one of our table finds a hair inside her coffee. So, okay pretty gross but not the end of the world. We get a replacement coffee (no apology however) and continue waiting the forever which it feels like it is taking to get our food. Enquire as to why it is taking so long. The waitress runs off, starts consulting with the register and an few other staff. We get ignored for a further 10 minutes until we stop the waitress again to find out where our food is. Waitress whilst laughing says "okay so sorry guys, haha I totally forgot to put your order in!" Food comes out after no less than 1 hour and 45 minutes since we sat down. As a good will gesture they take the coffees off the bill for us- the coffee that had a hair in it! thanks a lot! Overall lack of care by staff. No effort was given to rectifying the situation. In any other cafe after such an unacceptable wait time a manager would come to the table and offer an apology. Not at Denis the menace- terrible terrible service.

I come here most days as I work around the corner and I'm never disappointed. Such friendly, down to earth staff and the coffee is constantly good. The times I have eaten at Denis I've had some tasty meals, I enjoy the variety their menu has to offer. Also accommodating for times that we have brought staff from interstate out for lunch!

Second time I've been to this cafe. First experience was great however, the most recent time I visited the service was terrible. We sat outside and ordered coffees which did not arrive until after the food came. I had to get up and walk to the barista to remind them of our order. The food was ok, small portions. Overall mediocre service and average food and coffee.
Sophie
I love the fit out of what used to be a warehouse, it's a great addition to Richmond. The staff are upbeat and friendly, the food so flavoursome and presented well. Will continue to return.

This place is the Kim Kardashian of restaurants. Pretty, trendy and lacking any substance: <br/><br/>Baffled at the good ratings, I realised most people are reviewing the decor, which is true to be fair, it has a nice fit out. But the food is what should be the focus, and that's where it fails terribly. I've been here twice now, thinking I'd give it a second chance, only to come to the same conclusion, the food is dull and simply unpleasant in taste. I've tried 5 items on the menu here, which all look great in writing but as soon as I have the first bite....NO. Just NO. Perhaps it's the combination of ingredients, or the way it's prepared and cooked, but my conclusion is that the people here must not understand food, as terrible as that sounds. (Sorry guys)<br/><br/>Note: The only time a Reuben sandwich should be altered is to somehow make it better. That did not happen. <br/>Oh and pickles should be pickled.

If you want to start your weekend off listening to some crazy chilled out beats while sipping on great coffee, then Denis the menace is where you need to be.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is very hipster, but not to the point you feel like you shouldn't be there. <br/><br/>The food is a bit pricey, they probably need to make more of a margin because they don't charge you for the sparking water, but In saying that the food was great, the portions were well controlled and left content!

I found myself at a market on Cubitt Street in Richmond at the end of last year, and the lunch options in the immediate vicinity were quite limited (unless you wanted cupcakes, in which case you were set. Remind me to tell you about that sometime). Someone wandered in with a coffee and when questioned where it had been magically procured from, we were told about the amazing Denis the Menace.
LittleMissPiggy
Cute and quirky hidden gem in Richmond. Went here after the gym and wasn't disappointed! Great location hidden behind church street, awesome layout with heaps of indoor and outdoor seating, helpful staff, reasonable prices and even soda water served in beakers for free! I got the big green food fight which was exactly that, full of greens and full of health! My friend got the standard poached eggs with bacon, can't really go wrong! Would definitely go back although wouldn't mind a few more options on the menu

First time at this quirky restaurant well fitted out lovely waitress Shelly looked after us coffee and hot chocolate perfect my Rubuen was just yummy my friends picks were also well received enjoyed would certainly come again<br/>@

Very creative menu, loved the Japaneses-spin on things, from the minimalist timber styling inside the airy space, to the "Watasha Wa Denis" omelette with spanner crab, shichimi, bean shoots, miso sauce and seaweed salad.  <br/>Denis the Menace is quite a sophisticated space and it's menu. Perhaps not for everyone's taste, but if you're feeling adventurous and appreciate Japanese culture and great coffee, this cafe is for you.

Food is fine. Quite possibly the worst value for money ever. Paid $15 for a tiny take away salad. Tasted fine but would have expected something more for that price. For eat in it would have cost $20.

Great looking warehouse conversion that has taken on a very green and upcycled look, from the raw wooden benches (set at a bit of a weird height) to the old brown beer bottles turned into water glasses. <br/><br/>As to food shared the omelette - fairly light on with the crab inside, and also containing Japanese seaweed salad, and topped with again very sparse tobiko (not like most of the pictures on Zomato), katsuobushi and sprouts. The accompanying miso sauce was also good, although it was pooled on the side for us, rather than drizzled over the top as has previously been pictured. Not a huge dish, but not bad for a light brunch. All in all I quite liked the dish despite its shortcomings, although I'm a sucker for Japanese flavours.<br/><br/>Also shared the "I'll have what she's having" tuna on salad. For me this was certainly underdressed - couldn't taste any of the ponzo dressing. The seared tuna had obviously been seared the day before, as it was fridge cold rather than freshly seared as described. The salad itself had some great ingredients, especially the shiso leaf which is one of my favourite herbs. I imagine at its best this is a fantastic dish, as it was for me it was just cold thick sliced tuna served on a bed of Japanese-style greens. Not impressed. Again not a huge dish, but substantial enough.<br/><br/>Shared the French toast with mascarpone and fruit. The fruit was good - berries and fig, and also topped with nuts. Would have benefited from some kind of syrup as it was a tad dry, but not a bad dish.<br/><br/>Coffee was certainly up to standard. Green juice was also well blended and palatable, albeit a little on the savoury side for me (read healthier). The complementary sparkling water is also really lovely, something that I've gotten quite accustomed to drinking at Major Major on Smith Street.<br/><br/>Service was okay. Had to ask for our water to be refilled after making it pretty obvious it was empty in the first place. Service otherwise was not rude as such, but more bordering on the unfriendly. <br/><br/>The tables for two are very small and very closely packed. Place was fairly empty early on a weekend afternoon, so wasn't a worry on our visit, but it would be pretty easy to have an unpleasant breakfast if you were unlucky enough to get seated next to the wrong people. The wooden benches are funky, but very raw looking and the wrong height for the tables. The actual chairs are very chic though - I wish I could remember which model they were. The rest of the decor of the cafe is very well done - while the fittings are dark the cafe itself is very light-filled, so it works well. It is a very nice space to come and have something to eat.<br/><br/>I think we probably just had a bit of a slightly off experience. Did I love it? No. Would I try it again? Mos def...
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
Cool joint at a nicely converted warehouse. Enjoyed reading through the creative and cheek in the descriptive menu. They serve cold sparkling water as standard which was much welcomed on a sunny day like today. I don't know anywhere else that serves complimentary sparkling water! We sat outside at the front in the shade with a breeze which was nice. I noticed fans inside only so wondered what it'd be like on a 42 degree day like tomorrow. Our food was great and my ice coffee was one of the best I've ever had, finally felt like drinking real coffee and not watered down coffee flavored drink. It was just bearable finding parking around here so I can see it being crazy on weekends if fighting for a car space with Top Paddock customers...

Had a quick lunch here with friends and was pleasantly surprised! I hadn't heard of this place and absolutely loved it. My lamb shoulder was so tender and tasty and my friends all ordered the fish (salmon<br/>Or trout I think) and it was amazing! Great flavours, friendly staff and very easy going relaxed environment. Really like it a lot. The only thing that got to me a tad was his noisy contraption next to our table. Not sure what it was...I didn't pay too much attention to what it was but he noise was a tad annoying. Even so, still loved it here and looking forward to coming back!!

On a hot day that was 40 degrees celcius outside I was a little hesitant as there seemed to be no aircon in this cafe. My bad though I had the best cap I've had in ages. The tuna was great! I'll definately be back. Full marks for the staff who remained friendly under extreme heat!!!

I was pleasantly surprised that this place wasn't overly pretentious and didn't have the normal breakfast ridic half hour to hour waits for a table that has become the norm in my beloved Richmond. I have a love/hate relationship with all the brunch places in Richmond, but I am going to have to say this place has made its way into my 'love' side. Wait staff were all helpful and pleasant, but the warehouse like interiors of this place was fun with herb planters on the table and little cosy booths and long tables like eating in a friend's super nice place (where they are obviously restaurant interior designers). The menu here is extensive, so hard to choose from, but my American style bagel was deliciouso. Also, they serve fizzy-sparkling water as table water! Haven't had that option since travelling in Europe.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
A couple of weeks ago I joined my gal pals for lunch in sunny Richmond at Denis the Menace in charmingly named Chestnut St. We caught up in the sunny front courtyard with coffees. It was hard to pick what to eat because it all sounded so damn good!.

Love love love this place.<br/>Great atmosphere, great food, great service.<br/>It's going to be my favourite local and I'll be there a lot. Not a bad thing on the menu.

Still one of our favourite friday lunch spots you can always guarantee a friendly smile, endless sparkling water and a menu that has a little of everything on it. Watashi Wa Denis is a sensational dish, a Japanese omelette with spanner crab, shichimi (seven-flavor chili pepper), mung bean shoots, alfalfa, shiso (Asian herb), miso, tobiko (flying fish roe), fresh herbs and seaweed salad. Ok so I needed Google translater to look up a few of these but I have learnt something new and had a incredibly tasty lunch. There was a lot going on in the dish and the crab may have gotten a bit lost but it was still a top dish and all those flying fish roe popping in my mouth made me a very happy foodie!

Exceptional food, one of the best burgers I'v every had!<br/><br/>The Cowboy Boy's burger, was amazing! The Wagu beef was perfectly cooked,  moist and tender. The mayonnaise that was added was also nice. <br/><br/>I know, I'll be going back!

One sure fire way of making an immediate impact is to have a clever, and most of all good looking, fit out. This is one thing that even the most nonchalant diner can see straight away. A good looking venue provides immediate attraction but is only a small piece of the puzzle. There is obviously a lot more to it, but this is one ingredient that should be easy to do, yet is often not well executed. At Denis the Menace in Cremorne, the airy and open warehouse ticks the first box.

Tis had been on list of places to go for a while. Finally made it and was not disappointed! Nice menu options with a few twists on the regular breakfast suspects. The decor is brilliant and the feel of the entire place is wonderful. Sparkling water was unexpected and pleasant surprise.

Took me some effort to look for this cafe which is tucked away at the little lane way in cremone. Their menu is definitely extensive and interestingly named which had me outright laughing! Ordered the spanner crab omelette and a dark hot chocolate and they are really delicious

Tucked away down a quiet street out the back of Richmond, this places just oozes that Melbourne Hipster vibe - and I mean that in the best way possible!<br/><br/>Found the service to be extremely friendly and staff quite knowledgeable about the menu and coffee on offer - which was on-point and easily the highlight of our brunch. I elected to have their Kenyan single-origin roast which was delicious and made promptly - despite the fact they were at capacity.<br/><br/>The food wasn't anything special, despite the amazing writeup their dishes receive on their menu - which I might add is a fantastic little touch and helps gives the place character. Ultimately I found the size of their breakfast mains were a little small for the price you paid, but still very tasty.
Pomme Persian
Promising menu and decor but let down by the service. Water took a few requests before it arrived, no 2nd coffee offered and after finishing our brunch we had to ask for plates to be taken away after 15-20 mins. The big green fight was a great combination but not balanced in flavor as needed some more citrus or acidity. We'll probably give it another go.
Brunch Addict
“As you get older you can’t help to get nostalgic. I’m sure many of our readers are thinking, “What is she on about?! Brunch Addict are young!” Well, true as that may be, as we approach our 30s and kids born in the 90s become more prominent (i.e. now graduates in the workplace) I can’t help but reflect on the things I grew up with; Rugrats, Sailormoon, Police Academy and Dennis the Menace. Those were some (amongst many) fantastic pieces of television. So when Mr LB suggested we try out Cremorne’s new cafe, Denis the Menace (one ‘n’ intentional), I was excited to see how the concept was interpreted.
Food Lover
As with many of the best restaurants in Melbourne, Denis the Menace is a hidden gem tucked away in a narrow Cremone laneway. It's unlikely you would ever 'just happen to be passing by' this really cool cafe; you need to know where you are going and make an effort to get there. And when you do, the reward is a spacious, brightly lit and welcoming cafe serving excellent food and coffee. Worth the effort.
The World Loves Melbourne
Adam Wilkinson – one of the creators behind Prahran’s St Edmond’s - has launched Denis the Menace in Cremorne with a responsibility to sustainability, together with light-hearted fun and ever-important Melbourne good coffee and cuisine. We were invited to check it out!. The World Loves Melbourne looks for points of difference in a sea of cafes. Denis the Menace provides that uniqueness. Tucked away in a converted up-cycled warehouse on Chestnut Street, Cremorne, the venue has been made entirely of reconstructed materials collected over time by Wilkinson. It has that grungy but attractive look - well thought out with a dash of Melbourne quirk.
Melbourne Foodie
Wanted to order the corn tortilla but they were out. A friend wanted to order the green juice and it was also out. Must be one of the best... Ended up getting the bagel and it was quite good. The atmosphere and setting is pretty cool with Mandarin trees and mint leaves around, they also served sparkling water instead of tap water in a beaker. Will be back next time to try the corn tortilla!
FoodieAboutTown
It’s too cute! I read an interview with Adam Wilkinson about his new Richmond café Denis the Menace and he said something about too many cafes are taking themselves too seriously and he’s right! Denis is putting the fun back into life and serving a great coffee, amazing food and service with a genuine smile. The space is really lovely, lots of reclaimed timber, big wooden booths with kumquat trees and herbs growing in between, Mr Men sugar mugs and a playfulness that extends into the menu.
Cafe Condiments (Justin)
This backstreet cafe is hidden in a small alley behind Church Street in Cremorne. And although it might take a small while to seek out for those unfamiliar with it; one is quick to realise that this is a firm favourite for locals in the know. Dennis The Menace caught my attention as I passed it en route to a work appointment and I was intrigued enough to drop by afterward to see what was hidden behind these factory walls.
Gastrology
Pioneering a culture of excellent food and coffee, Cremorne’s hottest new café, Denis The Menace is an exciting addition to this thriving foodie hub. Plenty of natural light, clean designs and wooden furnishings with flashes of greenery create a friendly culture. Serious about coffee, the café roasts its own, selected through a 12 single origin cupping from which they selected four to produce a blend tailored to cut through the milk and ensure the coffee flavour is still present without too much bitterness. This is achieved through roasting each bean type separately before combining, as each responds differently to roasting times.

Having been here 3 times within a week, I think is enough of a compliment! Great coffee, fantastic space, yummy breakfast & all at a good price. Hopefully as summer rolls around they will bring some specials in.

Pros:<br/>• great coffee<br/>• almond milk available<br/>• interesting, quirky menu and delicious food <br/>• very cool space, bustling atmosphere <br/>• carbonated water available for the table at no extra cost <br/><br/>Cons:<br/>• service dropped a bit towards the end of the meal and food took a very long time to arrive

Amazing healthy cafe in Cremorne.<br/>Check out the carrot and beetroot juice- very on point.<br/>Salads are filing and wholesome which is great for lunch. I had the pulled pork in the side, though you can have lamb. <br/>Cacao bowl also divine.<br/>Just open during the day :)

Amazing lunch at this place today!!! Really friendly service, great vibe and awesome food! I had the "big green food fight" which was amazing, also the perfect size for lunch! My mum had "I'll have what she's having". Her tuna was cooked perfectly and tasted even better than it looked. Will definitely be back here!

Great healthy food choices. Cheeky menu with lots of options. I had the green breakfast option it was Light and filling. Good coffee. Great space in the off streets of Richmond. Uber cool. Highly recommended.

This is my go to breakfast joint 😊 Great staff, and amazing food. Could not recommend the 'Good morning America' enough! Or if you're after something lighter, try the Acai bowl, it can do you no wrong!

This place is cool. Like, super cool. Tap bubbly water for the table cool. Like, omg the wait staff are so cool! cool. Food wise, I had the avo on toast. It was really cool in that simple, fresh kind of way. Like, I was a little concerned by the number of ingredients but when I ate it all made sense kind of cool. Though I did ditch the mint. It was good. I ate in silence and just enjoyed. Cool.
Generous Serve
Cowboy Bob's Burger and the Classic Stuff (cheese was divine) both satisfied our hunger after a big walk through the back streets of Cremorne.  Love the quiet location and fit out of the cafe is unbelievable, so unique - very well thought out eco-friendly feel. It was great to sit out in the sun, with the afternoon sun shining over us.  Prices were reasonable/standard.<br/><br/>Service was really fast and friendly.  Coffee wasn't the best, but still okay.
ALH
Crap. Very underwhelming. Coffee weak. Food overpriced for what you get. Service poor. Staff brash, curt and openly disclosed their low care factor due to being hungover. Among other things we had fries...on the bill, $1.00 for tomato sauce!? Wow. <br/>I don't write reviews about places on sites like this but this experienced compelled me to sign up and warn others.

Had brunch at Denis the Menace with a couple of friends recently and was thoroughly impressed with this new addition to Richmond's cafe scene. Despite having had a few disappointingly bland crab omelettes in the past at other venues I decided to give Denis' version a try. Im so glad i did. The omelette was perfectly seasoned, had a great balance of asian flavours and was bursting with crab meet.  The service was also very attentive and friendly with our waitress making sure all of our meals arrived at the same time despite one friend arriving late and ordering after rest of the table.

First of all the cafe is beautiful, fit out and bathrooms are amazing and the staff were nice and attentive too. I had the Shitake Mushrooms w Soba noodles and a mix of both the sauces (ponzu and creamy) it was excellent. I also had the "orange" pressed juice which supposedly has other fruits in it besides orange but I couldn't taste them, a bit of a rip off for $8 in my opinion. Would definitely return for the food.

We loved the look of the cafe and couldn't wait to try it out. It wasn't very full at noon when we arrived and we took a spot for two at the shared table inside. Ordered coffees. A couple of booths opened up and we asked if we could sit there and was told by the waitress sternly yes, after she cleans up. So we waited...but four people came in and took the seats after she cleaned and the waitress seemed unconcerned. So we took our coffees over to the other empty booth before it was taken..she came over and asked us to sit on the otherwise of the cafe on a dirty table..not sure why. Then she mumbled something about she bringing our coffee over if we can wait. After that she was proceeded to ignore us for the rest of our time there. I think she was trying to punish us! Refused to look at us, didn't give us menus, didn't take our orders and wouldn't bring our bills. We had to find another person who would serve us. Needless to say it took about 20 minutes to get a menu, 20 mins to order and we had to struggle to get someone's attention every time. Everyone else was lovely and the food came quickly but the experience was totally ruined by this waitress. Always a shame when a cafe is doing well and so the staff think they don't need to be good to customer anymore. Watch out for the lady with bright lippy! Totally ruined it for us. Won't be back.

Delicious! Great fit out and super friendly staff.<br/>Great menu, I opted for the Smashed Avo with heirloom tomatoes, marinated feta, herbs and crispy pancetta - this was made of fresh had the Eggs Benedict which was twist on the old staple (served with tomato and Gruyere cheese). We both really enjoyed our breakfasts.

Great new cafe in the backstreets of Cremorne. Fantastic fit out, food and coffee on point, and exceptional service including some familiar wait staff faces that I've seen before at Dukes/Journeyman and St Edmonds. Will be back!
Farzana
A near faultless brunch experience at this hip, new cafe in Cremorne!  We couldn't stop admiring what they've managed to do with the space- such an open atmosphere, the indoor plants and trees coupled with the outdoorsy wood decor adds to the whole environmental vibe.  Of course, in true Melbourne tradition, there's hanging light bulbs too!  The menu is extensive and cheekily named dishes and descriptions are sure to put a smile on your dial (or have you outright laughing!)  All your cafe favourites plus some tastes from around the world- coconut fish curry, soba noodles to name just a few.  I went with the wild child salad- a melange of cauliflower, leaves, sultanas, seeds and wild rice.  It was delicious and I was surprised to see later that it was from the display- which probably explains the extremely efficient and fast service (though, I noticed other tables were served just as speedily!).  Service was good- my side of smoked salmon was forgotten but the waitress was very apologetic and the situation rectified in the blink of an eye.  The only downside was having to share a 4-seater booth with another duo- I'm all for communal seating, but this was perhaps a little too intimate!  The booths are a great idea, catering for larger groups, but more seating options for smaller groups might have been prudent.

Couldn't fault it. A beautiful fit out very friendly staff, everything from the plates to the water beaker was on trend... And the food, not only did it come out so quickly it was great. Eggs Benedict with tomato was amazing and different to the usual. Great place

Great new addition to Richmond cafe scene. Venue has a great decor and good ambience. Meals are very fresh and you can see that they are concentrating on a more healthier menu.<br/>I chose the 'Something a little bit fishy' with smoke trout on a bed of pea purree and avocado. Dish was very tatsy and smartly presented however it was quite a small serving for $17 and i was still hungry afterwards. Others had the avo on toast, roast vegatable salad and burger and there was a thumbs up from all. Will be coming back.

So my boyfriend and I decided to try this place a few weeks ago after we had seen it in a few papers and online. It looked like a funky new cafe so why not. We were told that the wait would be about 15 minutes but ended up being seated after about half an hour. I usually don’t care but in this instance, when we walked in, there were clearly a few tables free but groups of people still standing outside so it’s a little bit annoying. I figured I’d brush that off because we were seated and we could then look at the menu and order. What was a little frustrating was, no one came to take our drink order for at least 10 minutes and it was hard to catch the eye of one of the staff whilst walking past. When we finally ordered, my boyfriend got the ‘Watashi wa Denis’ and I got the ‘Something Fishy’ dish as I had seen other people order it and it looked lovely.

Richmond is home to many of the big names in the breakfast playground with the big boys  like Top Paddock and Pillar of Salt dominating the scene, but there is a new kid on the block, who has set up shop off the beaten track and seems to have made quite a few friends already. Denis the Menace is a new cafe, which has opened up in the back streets of Cremorne (I still think of it as Richmond, but apparently the official address is Cremorne).

Beautiful new local in the back streets of Cremorne. Absolutely love the greenery and the flourishing herb garden out the front. Both food and service were excellent. Will definitely be returning!
Melbourne Food Files
After the success of his Greville St cafe, St Edmonds, Adam Wilkinson has opened his second venture, Dennis the Menace. Located in the back streets of Cremorne, this sustainably focused cafe evokes the playful feel of its namesake, while serving up some seriously good food. Converted from an old warehouse, the high ceilings and timber fit out give the space the feel of a kid’s treehouse. “Though designed thoughtfully, it was also playful, spurred on by character Dennis the Menace. We pictured a boy building with his grandfather, armed with a twig sling shot and good intentions,” says eco-architect Simon Cookes of Duckbuild.

The World Loves Melbourne
The Melbourne café scene is set for a shake-up, with new kid on the block Denis the Menace bringing a playful persona and cheeky charm, paired with serious hospitality to Cremorne. This is on trend for Melbourne cafe scene not just catering for serious hipster action but bringing a sense of fun.

Melburnians love to explore and go off the beaten track to find a new cafe/restaurant/bar and Denis the Menace plays into this. It's not on a main street (actually a really quiet residential area) behind the Bryant and May building on a one way street. But when I got there on a Sunday morning, it was busy (not packed). It's a really nice space, light and airy and the tables are well spaced apart and on open kitchen.<br/><br/>The service was courteous but it appeared that it hadn't found its rhythm yet. but I'm not sure if it was just a case of being understaffed (just the two waiters were on) or just a new place trying to get its feet. I ordered a coffee and four minutes later I was asked again (she had forgotten what I ordered) and then a few minutes later the other waiter asked me if I wanted a coffee. And then the coffee was brought out by the barista. It's just teething problems that will smooth out with more experience.<br/><br/>I'd loved the menu and its quirky and fun food descriptions. Definitely a point of difference with other cafes. I had the Super Start - which I wasn't too sure about ordering as I normally enjoy a hot breakfast - and it was pretty amazing. It was tasty and crunchy and filling. They also serve sparkling water, which is a different and nice touch.<br/><br/>The only thing I didn't really enjoy as much was the coffee. I love a good strong flat white, and this one was probably on the weak side. That said, I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu and try another coffee. <br/><br/>I'd recommend exploring the backstreets of Richmond to try out Denis

Over the past weekend, I heard through Jo that Denis the Menace had just opened up in Cremorne (which we all know is really just Richmond), and couldn’t resist checking out the new addition with Brad. . I used to love the Dennis the Menace comic (the UK version which featured the black haired kid) and his dog Gnasher, and was absolutely tickled to find references to this comic throughout the menu. Talk about nostalgia!

What a cute cafe :-) only open a week! Coffee was really good. Two of our three dishes were very tasty. The roast vegetables were a miss, menu doesn't really indicate it is cold so no real caramelization etc so not so enjoyable! But would definitely return staff mostly super friendly & teething issues :-)

Service was great! Really friendly. Coffee was super weak though so recommend ordering a strong one! Food really clever and creative. Not my favourite breakfast spot in the area but would definitely go back. Great fit out and cute atmosphere. Love the music choices too!
