I'm always happy to check out a family run bakery when I come across one, and I can never resist sampling the classic Aussie sausage roll to set the standard of the bakery. The Richmond Pie Shop is your typical bakery, with a good selection of pies, pastries and cakes. The staff were very nice, and the atmosphere was busy which is always a good sign. Even though the pies looked great, I decided upon the ubiquitous sausage roll with sauce.
The pastry was nice and flaky and golden brown. The filling was nicely seasoned, and just meat with no addition of vegetables. It was still tasty, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. Next time I think I will try one of the pies as I liked the sounds of some of the fillings. The food was above average, and with it's pleasant service, I would be happy to give The Richmond Pie Shop another go.
A nice little pie shop/cafe. Had a lemon tart and a juice. The juice was a little bit funky but otherwise very nice. The attendant was extremely friendly and polite though which made it a lovely experience. I praise you for this.

The pie shop has a good reputation and their posters are a bold claim - "Best in suburb". I was initially underwhelmed with their presentation in the cabinet, with a handful of small slices positioned together in paper cases ready for action surrounded by lots and lots of pies. The product itself was pleasant; creamy custard, flaky pastry and a thick dusting of icing sugar . I wasn't blown away with a vanilla flavour and craved more due to their slightly overpriced ($3.50), small size. Pies and a coffee also sampled and enjoyed. Best in area? Not sure until I try a few more in Richmond!
Good coffee, too!. I popped in here one Sunday while swanning along the street because I'm a sooker for pasties. The Cornish one had a fine crust -- the kind that's soft but still flakes off pieces like mica (remember playing with that mineral at a natural history museum?) The filling wasn't as good. Pureed beef muck without much flavour. Lots of carrots, peas, some sweet corn and other veg to it. Probably the way that real Cornishmen did it during the mine days, to stretch out the last of the roast.
The cappucino a sweet young baristette made me was more memorable than the pastie. I don't know whether it was from the chocolate powder she sprinkled on the foam, or if they add some of it when they brew, but the cuppa had a sweet "chocolatte" flavour. I should have had two. Maybe next time...
Best vanilla slice ever!. The food here is always fresh and yum. Pies are great but the vanilla slice is delisshhh :)
My Partner Made Me.... I don't often eat here only because I am not a 'pie' person. If you are still with me, understand that my fella is and he loves this place. He asked me to review it positively and I will because having it near-by keeps everyone happy on a hungover morning when I can't be bothered cooking. He says: only get the gourmet pies and that he "loves them all" but don't stray off this list to the regular pies. I say: The quiche here is ok. We agree: The coffee is also... ok.
Great pies - simple as that.. They do great pies and pastries - what more do you need out of this joint?
Vanilla slice was top-notch! It’s a must-try if you don’t wanna miss out a great dessert for an afternoon cup of coffee. Wide range of hot pies, pepper steak is my most favourite with the gravy sauce. Shepherds pie also taste good with the creamy smashed potato layer on top.
Actually really impressed! Proper classic minced beef pies here. That’s all I ordered but super tasty, great blend of flavors and the pastry well cooked and buttery. This is a true Australian pie. I went for the plain Jane but it really delivered. Filling was generous and not gluey or overly salted. Excellent pie!!! Real deal and staff were nice. Thankyou.
The best Vanilla Slice in town. I got the last 2 for the day and they were the best. They don't make them all the time so get in while they have them. Pays to call ahead. Custard tarts also fantastic, my 2 boys loved them.

A cute little cafe that serves delicious pies, rolls, wraps, sandwiches and importantly good coffee. I had a Skinny Latte and it was delicious. Attractively priced and a good place for a quick lunch, an easy snack with good coffee. Friendly and quick service. One for friends to hang out, not for client meetings.
The vanilla slice really is fantastic. The coffee is nice too. Friendly staff.
