Review Kekou - Richmond

Explored this place for a special occasion, must say it was a perfect pick. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Good and different collection of cocktails. We got the feed me menu, loved every course except the taro croquettes that was a bit bland and the rice not being warm/hot. The presentation was simple and elegant. The baked pecan cake was a great finish to the dinner, one of the best cakes I have ever had, just the right amount of crispy and sweet. Over all good food and customer service.

Very unique Asian fusion. Quality ingredients, with great flavour and depth. Lots of options. Great for sharing! I went as a walk in for Mother’s Day, they were very nice and carefully explained all the dishes. The ceviche was gorgeously flavoured as was the betel leaf. The balloon bread with spreads was so interesting and tasty. The chicken ribs were cooked well but just a little over salted, maybe because they were totally full for Mother’s Day so producing large quantities. I found the portions generous for the pricing as well, which can be hard to come by. Will return with friends!

We had an excellent long lunch here. The venue, service and atmosphere were excellent and the food was great for the price. We had the "Feed Me" option. The some dishes might have been overly reliant on the sweet palm sugar flavours holding it together but it's a minor gripe. 5/5

The moment you walk in you're greeted with warmth and loved by the FOH team. The service was tentative and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing and each dish was balanced with flavour from umami of sweet sour and salty. Made fresh and presented well. You can choose any dish and you'll won't be disappointed. The bread bowl was unique and had an amazing smoked smell from the moment it landed on the table. The rest was just more amazing one after the after. I can sit here and tell you the best of each dish but I'll let you pick what you feel like and I assure you go home and rave on it as well. Book in advance and if you have more than 4 people take the feed me option and let the chef showcase their top dishes. The feed me menu is their best seller not just whatever is easy to make for larger group. Hope you enjoy your night at Kekou

We had the "feed me" option and to us personally it came with good range selection of entree and main, and 1 dessert. Worth the price of $79 (if I am not mistaken), and certainly will leave you comfortably full after full courses. Just make sure to book a table in advance as it might get busy during the serving period.

I've been recommending this place to everyone now! Everything was a standout so there is really something for all, especially if fusion or SE Asian cuisine is your thing. I highly recommend the really cool balloon bread and the satisfaction of hitting it with a spoon! The lobster betel leaf was packed with flavour. Also recommend the crispy pork belly - perfect texture and the sauce was so sweet and sticky in the best way possible. The slow braised beef rib with crispy noodle was so much fun to mix up ourselves and the sauce was to die for.. literally was drinking it up because soo hearty + coconut-ty. Can’t wait to go back again :) We were both so so impressed with all the dishes and it was even more fantastic to see how the restaurant filled up so much as the night progressed given that they opened just before the pandemic hit :( Definitely one of my favourite restaurants so far.

One of the best Asian fusion restaurants in Melbourne! Staffs are very friendly and professional too. Must try: -Applewood smoked beef -Five spice pork belly (absolutely NOT the one in a normal Chinese restaurant) -Irish cream stout (dark beer from the tap)

Amazing venue for modern Asian fusion food. Pair this with an excellent range of craft beer. Great for out, awesome staff. Private functions available upstairs too. Pictured is the fried chicken, lamb ribs, pork belly, curry and roti bread. Highly recommend eating and drinking here
Ellie
The flavours in all of the dishes were incredible! My partner demolished the roti bread (non gf) and he said it was the best roti bread he’s had. The green chicken curry was so creamy and full of flavour with a little kick of spice but no too much (unless you accidentally eat one of the chillis). For me the chicken ribs were incredible, gluten free yet so crispy! Absolutely loved them!

I think the food is beautiful, the only thing we weren’t super keen on was the big chunks of pineapple in the massaman. The flavour of the sauce was super sweet and you could taste the pineapple through it, a very clever way of making it sweet and a cheeky twist on a massaman. I just really dislike pineapple personally.

Thanks so much for a fab meal! We will definitely be back as the whole ordering process was super easy. We can’t wait until we can actually dine in.

Just had takeaway from Kekou for family of 4. Amazing flavour. Very high quality food. There must be a seriously good chef and kitchen at Kekou. Well done. Keep it up and we will be back again and again. The two teenage kids loved it too!

Kekou has taken Asian fusion food to the highest of the highest standards. Totally blew my mind. I love Pad Thai omg those prawns are so gooood and the idea of adding raw sour mango to dish is just great! The pork belly is amazing...so tender but still crispy outside. The banana pudding dessert is heaven to me could not have enough of it. This is my third time here trust me everything (both food and drinks) is yum definitely will go back over and over again.

Fabulous banquet and brilliant staff. They put up with our large and somewhat demanding group. Highly recommend this newcomer to anyone looking for a great meal with great service.

Kekou melbourne is currently on Groupon and #zomatogold (buy 2 free 2 drinks). I guarantee that this is a value for money dining experience (and I rarely guantantee in my reviews!)

🌿 first up, this restaurant is ideal for first dates or even birthday dinners. I came during the valentines weekend and there were plenty of couples. Very classy ambience. Although my partner and I was seated on a sharing table, I couldn’t hear what the other couple’s conversation.

🍗 the fried chicken ribs was perfectly done. For a starter, the portions were huge. The chicken ribs were well seasoned with turmeric and there was a good skin:meat ratio. The spiced yoghurt dipping sauce paid homage to Indian cuisine and went really well with fried chicken (who would have guessed?)

🍖The pandan smoked leg duck was a spectacle to start with. They captured all the smoke and unraveled it before our eyes. Duck meat also fell off the bone easily. I always have issues with smoked meat being a bit dry but this was not the case at all - meat texture was tender and it retained its flavour.

🦞As for the main course, the Moreton bay bugs!! It was cooked well with a distinct curry flavour. There wasn’t a whole lot of meat to go around, so you might not finish your rice with the dish alone.

Special shout out must be given to the roti - it was so crispy and tasted similar to the one I had back in Malaysia

All in all, I had a fantastic meal at Kekou and it’s quite worth the hype. The blonde waitress serving us wasn’t very warm but hey! The chefs in the kitchen made such a lasting impression that i would definitely be back for another meal here.
•
Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Presentation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! My first 5 star review in a while. This place was top notch, and I feel like the chef, Oak Kunnalok, is a bit of a prodigy in the same vein as Khanh at Sunda. The interior has lots of green and is just a comfortable place to be. We didn’t have a huge amount of time, and wanted to try an array of dishes so went with 7 of the small eats. Edamame is such a standard dish but they served it with fermented chili and garlic that was perfect. One of the best edamame ever! The turmeric chicken wings were moist and juicy with a perfect crust. The lobster betel leaf was a mouthful of perfection as were the pork & prawn wontons. Pie tees looked fabulous presented on uncooked rice and as were the scallops. The roti was so crispy and buttery that we wanted more. To finish we had the steamed banana pudding. Overall, I can’t express how good this experience was, and we will definitely be back very soon! Staff were all helpful and knowledgeable and shout-out to the waitress who moved us from the bar area to a sit down table at our request.

This place served some great dishes, with the tofu, eggplant, and fried rice being quite nice and lovely

The food: yum yum yum. Asian fushion food to the highest standard, it's creative, fresh, delicious, flavour bomb. Love everything that we tried. Got this groupon voucher for two for $69. We chose the tasting plate which gives u 4 chef selected dishes instead of 3 dishes of ur choice. The price includes wine or beer for two, so it's real good value of money there. We got good quality, high value ingredients like king prawn, king fish sashimi, pork belly, lobster ball. It's really a feast that can totally satisfy ur taste buds. They're happy for me to order a yuzu sparkling which is really good, free of charge even though it's not included in the deal. So definitely point for friendly service. Good for big groups, spacious sitting area, good, chill vibe. Definitely will come back with friends to try more food. Oh, btw, their desserts look to die for. Too bad we were too full to try any. Next time next time.

Awesome food!!! The rice is really delicious!!!

Dined on a great value Groupon voucher. We enjoyed a tasting menu of lobster betel leaf & chicken ribs followed by kingfish sashimi & pad thai prawn & pork belly with rice. Deal also included a drink each. All the dishes were well presented & had delicious flavour combinations. Staff friendly. Really enjoyed dining here & will return.

In all honesty I was a bit hesitant visiting this place, as I was unsure as to whether it would live up to the high expectations set by previous user ratings. However, I am pleased to say it definitely did, and exceeded them somewhat. Coming in a group of 5 we were advised by the waitstaff to order a small bite eat plus several 'a bit more' and 'I'm hungry' dishes. The standard and flavours of all the dishes we ordered were impeccable, each with great flavours and presentation. Favourites at our table were the Pandan duck leg, the cured Kingfish, the five spice pork belly and the fish special.

It was apparent that there was quite significant variation in the size of the dishes (even for those in the same category on the menu). This wasn't too much of an issue as the dishes are made for 'sharing', but is something you may want to keep in mind when ordering. Another thing to consider is that although the dishes are intended to be shared, they were not always plated in a way that was convenient for sharing by the number of people - this may be something they correct in the future however as it is still a fairly new restaurant.

Dessert and drinks were also great with a wide selection of beers available. Service was very friendly and dishes were appropriately spaced in time. Overall highly recommended dining experience!

This restaurant serves a menu of modern asian dishes. We got the "can't decide" (feed me) menu. They serve a wide selection of their dishes that was plenty to make us very full. All the dishes were faultless with amazing execution.
Some standouts from our feed me menu:
- yuzu scallops - interesting use of yuzu sauce to make the flamed scallops light and refreshing
- crispy chicken - omg! So crispy and tasty. I could've gone through a whole platter of these
- Roti - super flaky with a thick peanut sauce that even my wife (from Malaysia) thoroughly enjoyed
- kingfish sashimi - not your usual delicate kingfish sashimi, but instead a thai twist with very bold flavours that just worked
- 5 spice pork belly - well balanced dish between the sweetness of the caramel, the tartness of the salad and the richness of the pork belly

A fantastic dining experience and we will definitely be back for more!
Gastrology
The restaurant boasts exceptional and progressive Asian-inspired dishes that boasts complexity and aggressive yet balanced flavours that are perfect to wash down with the amazing array of Australian craft beers on offer.

We loved tasting our way through the menu. To start we loved the Lobster Betel Leaf. The betel leaf was a multitude of intense flavours and was highlighted on by the plump and fresh lobster and the gently sweet and pronounced savouriness of the coconut sambal.

The Pork and Prawn Wontons were similarly delicious, boasting velvety wonton pastry which was beautiful in texture and the accompanying sea of sweet soy and Sichuan chilli oil was pleasantly appetising. Cooked with the perfect amount of heat, these wontons tantalised our taste buds.

For mains the Beef cheek Green Curry was a stand out. Having benefited from being slow braised for numerous hours, the beef cheek fell apart easily with the weight of our spoons. This dish certainly packed a punch in both heat and flavour. The perfectly seasoned curry broth possessed the customary punchy flavours exhibited by South East Asian curries and was a great match for the melt in your mouth beef.

The dish of Wok Fried Eggplant, Umami tofu, fermented chilli, black bean and saltbush was similarly delightful. It was a well-conceived dish was bursting with flavour and took full advantage of the eggplant’s most notable characteristic – its supple flesh. The thick pieces of creamy eggplant flesh melted in the mouth in a manner similar to unctuous pork fat. Just heavenly.

Dessert time continued to please at Kekou. Think wobbly guava panna cotta with pomegranate molasses, meringue sticks and dehydrated and dusted Chambord strawberries as well as rich and aromatic Mango and Passionfruit Trifle made with layers of Coconut ginger tapioca pudding and white sesame tuile. Read more about it on our website!

Love love love ...couldn’t get enough of this bar restaurant.
The vibe, service, fantastic craft beers and cocktails
selections and the food is beyond your expectations - lots of fine details and surprises. It makes you want to keep coming back for more.

Assuming it would be good value and that we would get to try more dishes than if we choose ala carte, we decided to go for the $59.p.p. “Can’t decide” feast of favourite dishes menu - and were quite underwhelmed. We got a grand total of 5 dishes between 2 people: 3 appetisers, only 1 main, 1 side of greens. No desert. We were not full when the food abruptly stopped and the waitress asked us if we would like to look at the desert menu. The value of the items served barely added up to the price we were charged if we had ordered ala carte. Also, the dishes were of mixed quality. The standout dish was the cured kingfish sashimi which was delicious and innovative. The lobster betel leaf was also good, fresh and busting with flavour. The fried chicken, side of greens and the one main dish of fried fish ($49 dish) were all pretty stock standard.. All in all, not great value for money for $118 between two people. Also, when I tried to provide this feedback to the waiter who asked me how everything was, he seemed quite taken aback and proceeded to condescendingly explain to me what I should expect and not expect in a tasting menu. Apparently, I should not expect desert - even though all the recent tasting menus I have had all came with desert. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So, so impressed with Kekou. I didn't know what to expect going into it, but as soon as I stepped into the beautifully fit out space, my expectations jumped. Luckily, the food and the service exceeded them. First of all, the craft beer selection is incredible, featuring 18 mostly if not all local taps. Most are available in pots, pints or tiny tasters.

The food is just as impressive. Vegetarian and vegan options are abundant, and I tried most of them. The fried silken tofu made a delicious starting point, sitting in a salty and slightly sour broth. Next up was the crispy Buddha Bowl which was a lot more minimal and deconstructed than a traditional one, but full of great flavours and a satisfying crunch. My favourite dish of all was the fried, sticky eggplant served in a whole hollowed out eggplant. The stir fried mushrooms and greens and rice rounded out a beautiful meal.

Kekou also serves an interesting assortment of desserts, of which I tried one that was like a fruity semifreddo topped with meringue. It was a unique combination of both Southeast Asian and native Australian ingredients, which is reflective of Kekou's mission.

We came here purely because we were fishing around for a spot to take advantage of 4 for 2 drinks, what came of it was pure astonishment as to how good the food was. Kekou is heavily based around modern south east cuisine with an impressive selection of craft beers off the tap and not to be outshone, creative cocktails.

We stuck with cocktails throughout the night, I got their Bangkok Tea which was served in a teapot which never seemed to end! I had to enlist the help of my friend to finish it off so I could get another cocktail. Very easy to drink with a very pleasant ginger, lychee and kumquat flavour. I also got their Kekou Negroni which had a bit of theatrics to it with the smoke reveal. As such, it imparted some oakiness to the drink and it almost tasted like bubblegum.

We started off with their crispy tumeric chicken ribs, can't fault this it had a crumbly coating and the meat was juicy. The spiced yoghurt accompanying it helped balance out the grease as well as round out the flavours.

The otak otak was ground Spanish mackerel wrapped in a banana leaf and grilled over flames. The coconut helped neuter the chilli sambal and the herbs brought some vibrancy to the dish. The dish is salty so eating it with rice (coconut in this case) helps compliment the intense flavours.

We also shared some spicy tuna tartare which is always a favourite. The seaweed crackers were light and airy and the tuna was mixed with pickled mustard greens and topped with some luxurious black caviar. Not particularly spicy but more sweet and sour.

We ordered one of their specials that night which were lightly seared scallops topped with puffed rice, yuzu dressing and spring onion oil. After we finished with the scallops we couldn't help but lap up some of the dressing, it was kind of addictive.

For something more substantial (or unsubstantial) we had their stir-fried Moreton bay bug. It had been tossed with bonito cured yolk, sugar snap peas, house made chilli jam and mounded with various garnishings. As we know they don't exactly have that much meat (the 3 of us got around 2-3 pieces of meat each) but the rich flavours were there and we had no issue polishing it off with our coconut rice (refillable).

We also had their wok fried eggplant which had been hollowed and served whole (I actually thought it was a glazed ceramic pot), the eggplant was nice and creamy and had a strong fermented chilli and black bean flavour. Again, no issues scooping out every last drop of that sauce and having it with rice.

Desserts we had their steamed banana pudding topped with a caramelised banana (kind of like the top of a creme brulee) and coconut ice cream with toasted coconut shavings. My kind of dessert, not overly sweet and I liked their take on the classic banana fritter and ice cream. We also tried their dessert special which was a guava panna cotta with pomegranate molasses, freeze dried strawberries and sticks of meringue. Very smooth, slightly tart and sweet. Another killer dessert.

Overall great dining destination and exceeded expectations. The drinks menu is particularly strong and customers were coming in just to have a drink at the bar or their outdoors seating area. Execution and flavours were all there and were properly explained when it landed on the table. As for value, I felt that some of the prices did not translate across such as the Moreton bay bug and eggplant. This however would not stop me from revisiting, just expect to spend a little more if you plan on tasting from a whole spectrum of dishes.

I’ve been here twice now and both meals have been equally spectacular! When we went last weekend the special entree was wagyu tartare and yuzu and it is genuinely once of the most delicious things I have ever eaten - everyone at the table raved about it and I’d have to say it’s one of my top 10 favourite dishes ever - they should definitely put it on the regular menu! Other standout dishes across the 2 meals were the chilli edamame, tuna tartare, lobster betel leaf, kingfish ceviche, five spiced pork belly and special slow cooked wagyu beef main, and the Calamansi parfait was my favourite of the desserts. I’m sure I’ll be back again!

Food - 5
Service - 5
Experience - 5

This was a restaurant that belonged in Crown!
The food was so delicious! As you can see we got different options and my favourite was lobster Betel Leaf, the beef tataki, the wok fried eggplant... Almost everything actually for the 5 star rating.

The service was spot on, friendly and helpful and they looked like they enjoyed working there!

The only thing I didn’t like was my drink choice but I can’t even blame that on the restaurant or default them for MY choice.

The ambience was so lovely and neat and I absolutely loved the dining out the front, looked so cozy!

I will be back 🤤

Went here with my sister for my birthday last Sunday and can easily say it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, period. We went on a Sunday night - the restaurant was fairly full (we'd made reservations beforehand) but the seating layout prevented it from feeing crowded-out. We had Ellie as our server & she was a friendly, attentive server all night (+ was super generous about letting us taste some of the craft beers/wine before we ordered drinks).

Every dish we ordered was great (not pictured are the starters we ate; the pork belly bao's a more common suspect in Melbourne restaurants but still melt-in-your-mouth good). But my most memorable dish would probably have to go to the dessert. They had this warm pudding topped with a caramelised banana, with a side of coconut ice-cream; a play of temperatures & flavours that was just a harmony of flavours all round.

Would definitely recommend going for a special occasion or if you're looking to have a really amazing dining experience. As an Indonesian myself (the menu had a lot of Indonesian-influenced dishes on it), I think the menu is a beautiful, inventive take on South East Asian cuisine. Five stars!
Telling It As It Is
Great, friendly, and enthusiastic service. Fantastic food. - perfectly balanced Asian and western flavors. Generous portions and good value. Clean and love the decor.

Might be my new favourite place to eat! Attentive, but not annoying, staff. Great ambience and delicious food! We had the Morten Bay Bug and the Pad Thai between two of us which was more than enough!
Christopher Karayiannidis
Firstly great service, and awesome recommendations on the food we ordered. You must try the Lobster Beatle Leaf which was a burst of flavours, and the Yellow Curry was amazing. The Bao’s we tried were the Pork and the Soft Shell Crab, and the Soft Shell Crab took the cake as the Pork didn’t have enough filling.
Annie
Amazing Thai flavours. It’s hard to find good Thai food in Melbourne that isn’t Anglofied. This restaurant had beautiful food.

Ambience-wise the seating around the front door is hit by the cold air. This does take away from the dining experience.
Emmmma Llove Food
Love the place! The food is just as what their name is, 可口(kekou), means delicious in Chinese (not sure whether this is the meaning behind 😝).

Great atmosphere, lovely staff, awesome drinks and yummy food. Everything ordered today are awesome! Highly recommend!

Food was amazing, nicely balanced and very tasty . The lobster, smoked duck leg were top class. Amazing selection of beer and whisky , Staff were amazing, knowledgeable and classy. Highly recommended!

Overall 10/10.

The food at Kekou is well seasoned and super tasty! It has the best Loster I ever had and their waiters are really nice and friendly to talk to. It feels as if your in a 80's restaurant, abosutely amazing experience.

A stylish restaurant with an extensive list of delicous craft beers complemented by great asian fusion food! Everything we ordered was delicous and reccomend the tofu and betel leaf lobster.
Staff were accommodating and friendly and can make a mean cocktail!! Will definitely be back!

In one word; outstanding.
I honestly can't think of a better meal and dining experience I've had in ages.
We ended up needing a late lunch after 3pm on a Sunday. Thankfully we were in Melbourne, this place came highly recommended and it was still open.
Really cool decor and a lovely warm space, on a chilly winter's day. Lovely relaxed vibe and great music.
This place is the perfect blend of a modern Asian fusion restaurant and serious specialist craft beer bar. Think 15 or so varieties on tap, each with a description displayed. The wine selection was great too.
We were served by Darcy, who was exceptionally good at his job, welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Every single dish we shared was fantastic, an amazing combinations of flavours and excellent to share.
The veal shank in green curry sauce was spectacular, veal cooked on the rare side fell off the bone, tender as anything, in a to die for sauce.
Other standouts in a showcase of spectacular dishes, were the beef ribs, silken tofu and pork fried rice.
I especially loved the sauce from the tofu over the beef ribs.
Can't recommend this place highly enough, it was exceptionally good and I look forward to coming again next time we visit Melbourne.

Staff were super friendly and food was excellent. Price range very reasonable for the quality of food - I could have paid double and I would have still been happy - overall legendary. Recommend the Kingfish and the Betal Leaf
Chronicles Of A Foodie
This place is the bomb! I went there with a few of my food loving girl friends and we were so blown away by the food. The chef is young ex-Chin Chin and ex-Nobu. Every dish was amazing! I wanted to go back the next day and the day after.
The Morton bay bug stir fry was fab, pork belly is a must to try and the lobster betel leaves were a great start to the meal. Definitely going back to try the rest of the menu.

Lovely dinner at Kekou last night. Staff were very attentive and polite and the menu was impressive. We ordered the lobster betel leaves (must try), the pork and prawn wontons (lacked a little flavour), the tuna tartare, the beef short rib special (absolutely delicious) and the mixed Asian greens. A perfect amount of food for two. My only comment is that they may need to do a little work on their drinks list.

Recently myself and a girlfriend visited Kekou, a modern Asian restaurant in Richmond’s bustling Bridge Road for lunch. The light filled, grunge-chic space has been expertly designed to preserve the buildings 120 years of historical charm, whilst giving it a modern twist. A lot of thought has been put into the dining space, from the rendered, sculpted and painted walls, splashes of greenery right down to the furniture made from recycled red gum railway slippers.
Priscillia
Absolutely loved it! Collaboration between ex Nobu and ex chin chin chefs .. totally mind blowing. This place is perfect for a date, birthday or any special occasions. You could hire the room on the first floor for a private function. Excellent services. Highly recommended

Really lovely Saturday dinner! We opted for the Chef’s Choice and were not disappointed. The beer menu is impressive and service was spot on. Planning our return!
Excellent! Really enjoyed a group dinner here. Service was excellent, it was a really busy evening but they managed it well. Food was great - Soft Shell chilli crab boa, Pork and Prawn wonton, kingfish sashimi and Pad Thai I think were my highlights, but everything was amazing.
As locals it’s a very welcomed addition to Bridge Road.
4.5 rather than a 4.
Foodie-is-me
The food is amazing! Every dish was delicious and they have an an amazing drink menu to cater for every desire. Whilst they have a small menu, each dish was well thought out and every mouthful was just yum! Recommend the pork belly and Pad Thai.

Food is faultless paired with craft beers and the Sunday supporter by live music. Love what there’s guys are doing. More of this please, they have nailed he formula.

Tasted four selected beers. Loved plum one the most (cant remember whole title it was #18) so ordered pot with food.

For the food, we extremely loved our chicken ribs. My partner said he would eat the yoghurt sauce, well he didnt, I did. :P

Pork belly, oh pork belly, why you so good so perfect?! I cant help think if I could make it home, I may just have to come back to eat more heh. I called it perfectly glazed (it did) caramelised skin, soaked well in the sauce (has very fresh herb in it), very thoughtful salad on top.

Mushrooms! If you ordered mushrooms I will highly suggest you directly pull the mushrooms with sauce into the rice that come with it. Enjoy every drop of the sauce! (can lick plate if no one notice! why not???)

Nice coffee to make a relax finish to our food and beer adventure. Sadly no room to dessert this time! Another sad thing is we just discover how nice the curry noodle is when we about to leave. (someone next table was having)

Until next time! :)

Wow what a great find today. Thanks to Zomato we tried this restaurant for lunch today. What an absolute ripper. Such a lovely restaurant with wonderful informative staff, brilliant food, and a perfect location. Flavour, flavour, flavour...with every course. So happy to see a quality restaurant like this in Richmond. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to come back.

Another wonderful new addition to bridge road! This is asian fusion at its best. Plus we were excited about the quality of the wine list, and the craft beer selection. The friendly staff were just the cherry on top! Food wise, this place delivers on flavour, so it was going to be a win for me!! Stand outs were the soft shell crab bao, lobster betel leaf, kingfish sashimi, 5 spice pork belly main. The only letdowns were the cheeseburger spring rolls, and we wished there was a better ratio of tuna tartare to rice cracker (there was only a bite of tuna each). We will definitely return to taste more of the menu though!

4.5/5

“Twas a cold night and the wind was howling down Bridge Road when Hello. Imnikki and our respective partners went for dinner.

This is a new restaurant and the service was new.

I really like going out with friends as we often order the Feed Me menu so we can sample a number of dishes and this night was no exception.

We started w betel leaf and poached lobster and this was delicious! The pork and prawn wontons were yummy too.

There were 11 courses... what? Yes 11 course and I’m not going to describe them all hahaha

But some highlights include the spicy salmon tartare, the pandan smoked duck, the 5 spiced pork belly were all amazingly good.

The veal shank green curry w apple eggplant, wild ginger, young coconut and Thai basil was another winner.

The service was a bit slow at first but then things took off, well sort of, but it it’s still early days for this new place.

And if you like great craft beers then this is your place!

This place is definitely worth a visit.

The quality of everything here was outstanding! Every dish had so much attention to detail and the flavours were unreal. All the staff made our experience truly incredible. They explained every dish as well as all the drinks and why each had been paired accordingly. We would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

A true gem 💍at Richmond. Recently open and will give Chin Chin a run for their money (their chef worked at Chin Chin).

Amazing selection of craft beef 🍺and excellent cocktail. 🥃Their passion fruit pineapple mock tail was top of its class. 🍹

Great selection of Starters. meals are 10/10 master pieces . Top grades to their pork belly and lamb curry (a bit hot).

All round a must visit place in Melbourne ..😊

Good ambience and amazing food. I have tried the Best Pad thai in Melbourne here and super flavourful yellow and green curries. Considering how generous the food is the prices are pretty reasonable.

After being to many of the usual modern asian restaurants (longrain, chin chin, ginger boy, sunda) i wasn’t really expecting anything much better or new, but this really was a delicious surprise. highlights were the soft shell crab, fried rice (you must try it to see what i mean - i still can’t believe how good it was) and the mango dessert was one of the best desserts i’ve had in a very long time. highly recommend to check this place out 👍👍👍
Hello. Imnikki
4.5

Another day, another new restaurant pops up on Bridge Road. Kekou is all about Asian fusion, leaning more towards Thai, and once you have been here, you'll be hoping that they are here to stay.

Along with Timinmelbourne and his partner, we went for the $79 Feed Me menu which blew us all away. There were a few memorable dishes from the night that my partner was still talking about the following day.

The crispy turmeric chicken ribs were seasoned to perfection. So juicy and succulent, with the most satisfying crunch when you munch into one. The spiced yoghurt provided the much needed tang to cut through the deep fried goodness of the ribs.

Sitting on top of crispy pappadum crackers, the spicy salmon tartare was a dish that was not only a textural delight but also one with amazing flavours. You get the sweet spiciness from the salmon tartare, and also a zesty burst of flavours from the pickled mustard greens.

Of course, the 5 spiced pork belly did not disappoint. It was incredibly tender, and the sauce had the most amazing depth of flavours. A heavy dish that was cleverly paired with a light and refreshing pomelo salad.

Another dish I must mention is the stir-fried Morton Bay Bugs. Indulgently creamy and savoury thanks to the bonito cured yolk, and the addition of curry powder and chilli jam gave this dish a multi-layer of piquant flavours.

The majority of the dishes were without a doubt flawless, with only one or two that were just a heartbeat away from being perfect. The pandan smoked duck leg, for example, was a tad dry, while the poached lobster betel leaf had its star ingredient overwhelmed by the much more pronounced flavours of the supporting ingredients.

It was extremely busy when we were dining there, and being a newly opened restaurant, it was understandable that there was a bit of a wait for our food. We were all ravenous when it arrived and devoured everything in sight. So impressive were the food that we just had to find out about the culinary background of the chef, who we were told was Thai and thus, the presence of quintessential Thai flavours of fresh, pungent and fiery in each dish.

For lovers of beer, there are rotating draft beers and some very interesting ones were available during our visit. The Asian-inspired cocktails caught my eye too. Maybe next time!

This place couldn't have been further up my alley - Asian fusion paired with craft beer - so we'd been excitedly eyeing it off since it opened. We ordered at least five dishes and all of them absolutely knocked our socks off. Delicate, beautiful, delicious morsels - from lobster to salmon to chicken to pork - and the beer to go along with them made for a sensational experience. Even the fact that the beer paddle is made from a former *actual* paddle was a fun touch. The staff were lovely, the service was efficient but relaxed. It was as close to perfection as I can imagine, and every day since that I'm not dining there, I'm wishing I was!
4.5/5
Terrific place. Super tasty flavors and really good friendly service in a cool setting. kingfish and pork/prawn dumplings were a hit to start, then all the mains were super tasty. Desert was just ok but I wasn’t there for desert. Only let down was that there was 3-4 things on the menu that had sold out which is not ideal. Will definitely be back.

Will come back for:
+ Spicy Edamame
+ School prawns
+ Tahu Getroj
+ Caramalised pork belly

A new addition to the Bridge road eateries, and a good one to try out if you love your craft beer. At first, the menu seemed confused as it was a mix of dishes from all over Asia, but when you taste some of the dishes and think about how great they all go with a craft beer it starts to make sense. The thing that impressed me most is how (temperature) hot every dish was. All the dishes arrive on the table steaming, and that is extra special and just brings out the flavours even more. My favourites that went really well with the beer was the edamame, school prawns and tahu getroj. All great accompaniments with a beer in hand, and some good conversations. All the bites were salty, tasty, crunchy and moorish - perfect. They were also relatively generous in size for a side dish which was great. We also had the kingfish sashimi which was good, but the caramalised pork belly was the highlight of the mains. Evenly caramalised, and succulent and juicy on the inside - delicious with the fried rice. Service was friendly and efficient. The price was good for the sides, but the mains are above average. A great place to share a beer, grab a snack and will away some hours. Will be back!

Was super impressed with this place and it’s something Bridge rd can do with more of. Very nice fitout and a very cool vibe going on. Friday night it was chockers, the staff were great, a couple times we were waiting on drinks but nothing worth complaining about. Food was absolutely outstanding, so much flavours packed in and we got to order a heap to as we were with a big group. Highlights were the pork belly (special), veal curry, kingfish, the lobster betel leaf and the dumpling... actually it was all amazing except for the cheeseburger dumplings, you can give them a miss easily. Great place will be back

Absolutely amazing and so, so special!

My partner and I celebrated our three year anniversary at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff were so attentive. We were congratulated and provided with a glass of bubbles each for the occasion.

We ordered a beer tasting paddle to start, and one of the staff sat with us to walk us through each beer and their tasting notes. He was super knowledgeable and took the time to have a proper conversation with us which was lovely.

For dinner we ordered the school prawns, soft shell crab bao buns, lobster betel leaf, king fish sashimi, salmon tartare and Moreton bag bugs. Normally I can identify a favourite dish at every restaurant I dine at, but every dish we had at Kekou was so delicious and beautifully presented that I honestly couldn’t rate any one dish over another. We absolutely loved everything we ordered.

To finish, we were treated to a gorgeous chocolate mousse desert, and another lovely conversation with one of their attentive staff.

From the decor to the moody atmosphere, the impeccable quality of food and the outstanding service, Kekou was the perfect place to celebrate a special night. I recommend this restaurant so highly and look forward to dining here again.

Thank you so much to the very talented chef and the lovely staff who took care of us from the moment we walked in.

Every single dish is amazing. From the presentation to the flavor. You can feel the different taste running thru your tongue and blend together smoothly. The beer, the food, the music and the atmosphere. I will definitely come back again 👍🏻

The food here is amazing. Flawless. The interior especially the walls make the place feel so charming, yet the lighting is so bright it really ruins the atmosphere and lets the beautiful space down. Lighting and music are an essential part of the experience. The music was top 40 and we felt so torn about spending $300 for all of this delicious food with such unfortunate atmosphere. I'd like to come back maybe in a few months when they get on their feet better, because I'm already craving that Edamame again!

What is this place? Bridge Road seems to be the new happening spot with lots of new restaurants approaching. This restaurant is classy and well put together. The service here was perfection. The waiters knew what they were talking about and they were attentive and personable. Each dish was explained in detail when it hit the table. A menu that was designed for sharing with the compliments of craft beers. I enjoyed the fact there was a 'beer specialist' which came from behind the bar to tell us stories about the beer. Finally the chef Oak has put together an outstanding menu very much Asian fusion. All the flavours combinations were really well put together and exceptional in presentation. A great night and an easy 5/5 from me.

Have to mention the smoke duck leg.
Soft and juicy inside with strong flavour. crispy at the outside. lamb shoulder just fall apart from the bone. So tender with perfect flavour. Chicken curry was really the best I have ever had.
Wonton is really different from what I have tried before. Kingfish sashimi is fabulous~ must have! The duck legs are so smoky! Beef Veal is tender and fresh and really good with rice. I asked a special cocktail from the bartender and it is really delicious. All staff are friendly and nice. Really enjoy my time there.

Honestly, phenomenal. Bridge Road has needed these kinds of flavourful depths for a really long time. The Veal Shank Green Curry.....to die for. Simply put, breath taking. So rich and creamy, the perfect amount of spice, heat and meat that you could lift with a feather. The best green curry I've eaten by far. The Kingfish Sashimi...stunning. Salmon Tartare...soft, clean and seriously delicate flavours scooped up by a big beautiful, tasty house made crunchy prawn boat. So tasty and perfectly created. The Smoked Duck dish, housed secretly in a glass shroud, softly falls apart amidst its wavering smokey duels. Do a tap beer safari! Each one has it's own special powers. My favourite the Miss Pinky. A sour beer, mid strength crafted with raspberries. Beautifully paired with such rich textures and layers of flavour in the food. Not to mention the space... Beautifully textured, high charred beamed ceilings that holds hands tightly with the really cool concrete distressed walls. Great for big groups and communal eating which I love. And keeping those lights low and sexy, a great conversation could go on for hours in this place. Especially eating at the bar in the dim light. Mmmmm. A stand out in Richmond that is long over due! Love it.
