Review Co Do - Richmond

Peggy Katsakis
My friend ordered a shrimp and crab noodle soup 🍜 and got a soup with pork, tofu that looked like death and no noodles... When sent back, they said that it's not a mistake and that was the actual soup 🤔 they put about 3 plates of lettuce with dipping sauce on our table and then after we had picked at the lettuce, then removed it from the table and placed the lettuce that we had fingered on someone elses table to eat. I left this place feeling very confused, unsatisfied and turned off my life.

The bun bo hue is really good, lots of depth and flavour. Also there's great mixture of sliced pork and beef, pork loaf, prawn loaf, pork blood. Best bun bo hue I've had on Victoria St. Vegetables were also very fresh and plenty of it. It's gonna be my regular go to place for bun bo hue.

There really is only one thing to order here; the Bun Bo Hue. It’s their specialty and they do it better than anyone else in Melbourne. The broth is pork based and spicy (not too spicy). Different cuts of meats in here; including slice pork, slice beef, pig blood curd and sliced pork sausage. This is heaven in a bowl of soup. I’ll generally order this with a side of prawn spring rolls, which pairs well.

I've been to CoDo a couple of times now, seeing as so many Vietnamese restaurants on Vic St have closed due to Covid, no business. I had the Regular Beef Pho with Rare and Braised Beef, (Med $13.5) Which was nice. I think there was an overdose of Msg in it, as I was super thirsty and brain tingling afterwards. A few pieces of the Beef was rather tough, but I injoyed the Pho overall. I tried Bahn Bo Nhan Thit for the first time, rice flour pancakes with minced meat and sauce. ($10) It was delish! 🙆 Pretty good service and at least I got acknowledged, better than another Vietnamese Restaurant I went to in Preston.

This Vietnamese restaurant have another branch in Sunshine. Their signature dish is the Hue style chilli beef soup. The broth is deep in flavour and have a nice balance of meat and spiciness. The dry noodle is also great and you can choose to have it either with egg or rice noodles. The spring rolls were pretty average. Food - 8 Service - 8 Vibe - 8 Price - $$

I love this place. It's difficult to stand out amongst a sea of Vietnamese restaurants but this place does (and does it well). If you've had the pleasure of visiting Vietnam and are looking for a place that can dish out a mean Com Tam like you'd get over there then look no further.

Best Bun Bo Hue in Melbourne, except maybe Mum's at home. Very affordable. Very tasty. Very accessible.

I had some take away from here. Ordering 3 dishes I had some vegetarian rice paper rolls which were really tasty. The second dish was a vegetarian soup which had a good selection of vegetables. And finally I had some rice vermicilli noodles with pork and spring rolls. This dish never fails to please. Its always fresh, the noodles are great, and everything is soo tasty. If you want fresh tasty Vietnamese food then this is the place to go. Previous review 2019 I haven't been here for a while so my partner and I went back for dinner. The service is still really efficient. We ordered some vegan rice paper rolls w bean curd, and they were yummy. Fresh and full of flavour. A great start. I ordered rice vermicelli w spring rolls and pork. This was a great dish, a big serve and I managed to eat some chilli without blowing my head off this time hahaha. My partner ordered vegetarian fried rice which was really good too. Then we shared a Vietnamese pancake which was like glutinous rice and it was fantastic. Filling and it had a nice texture. This place is still good. Previous review June 2017 I went here tonight for some cold noodles. I ordered rice vermicelli noodles w pork spring rolls. This was absolutely delicious, the flavours were outstanding and fresh. I absolutely loved this dish. My friend had wonton noodle soup w sliced pork. The wontons were fresh and the broth amazing!! The service here was great, we were instantly given a table and our food was served pretty quick give that the restaurant was packed. Yummmmmm hahahaha is one word to describe this fantastic dinner tonight. Definitely try this place if you can. And I almost forgot, BEWARE the sliced chillies that are on your table. They are the hottest chillies I've eaten in a very long time. Lucky I only had 1 as my mouth is still tingling hahaha VeganeatsM Vegetarian Food Lover @Amansaraf

Honestly I have never been into the store, I order take away. This is my go to takeaway place. Its quick, easy and the prices vs portion size is good. The only problem I have with the takeaway is that, I dont like onion and when I order with no onions it still comes with onions. But overall its great and super available.

I haven’t been to the restaurant to dine in before but I’ve tried couple of times via ubereats. The quality of food is fine, I’ve tried some of the soups before and it’s nothing special, it’s not too bad but not really authentic. The first time I ordered the food arrived with all the dishes and it wasn’t too bad, my bf said the rice dish with beef was actually tasty. So we ordered 2nd and it is definitely the last time. The portion of my bamboo vermicelli soup with duck salad wasn’t enough, the salad wasn’t fresh, and i got 4 flat thin pieces of ducks. I wouldn’t say anything but also I ordered the same dish for my bf and they forgot our rice, they only gave us beef, it wasn’t bad that beef but just essential fault.
Yumyumfoodyum
Reasonably priced, large portions and the food came out quickly. Service was friendly, and the food was delicious. Ordered an assortment of soups and all were amazing. Will be back.

Been here quite a few times over the past few years. It's decent for casual Vietnamese food and also only of only few restaurants in Richmond that serves Canh Chua, a fish hotpot dish.

Vietnamese cuisine. The food overall is really great and tasty , especially the fish with sour soup really nice . And the price is reasonable , sure visit again . Cheers

A very nice place to get Vietnamese food. Food is done so well with the favour and the way it is cooked. Service is good and I have always had fresh food when I have been

Co Do - Victoria Street, Richmond.
Bánh Canh Cua
Today I was back to the old haunt Co Do on Victoria Street, a homely Vietnamese restaurant that comforts me like a warm doona after a very busy weekend.
Today I decided to choose different, usually I opt for Co Do’s signature Bun Bo Hue but today I came for the Bánh Canh Cua, a rich and think orange crab (Cua) soup with noodles (Bánh Canh) made from rice and tapioca flour - A myriad of ingredients which I hope will bring an avalanche of flavour! The soup in true Co Do fashion was delivered quickly to our table, I was amazed at how vibrant it was with the contrast of the green coriander and orange thick, starchy broth, bordering on a gravy. The taste was of course crabby and the further you slurp down this soup the more ingredients were uncovered. You need to be patient with these Udon like noodles as they are very very slippery. Face in the bowl action people. I was delighted to find a huge prawn under the cover of crispy pork, fried shallots, fish balls and crab meat - How a bowl like this exists for $12.50, 5 minutes from the CBD defies all logic! This is such a tasty soup option if you want to try something different to Pho or Bun Bo Hue!

🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢
Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Service: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Overall: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢

1.0 Great Viet food but unfortunately got food poisoning here. 🤢 My bf and I had lunch here, then both got sick in the evening. It was the only meal we shared over the past few days so it could only have been this. 😣 Otherwise would've been 3.5

🍹 DRINKS: n/a
🍽 FOOD:
- Banh Xeo $18 (serves 2) - delicious crispy egg shell with yummy prawn and pork contents. Co Do Sunshine is well known for the Banh Xeo too so wasn't surprised it was so yummy.
- Bun Bo Hue $14 - mild flavoured BBH with a good mix of pork cuts and meats. We got the large but I felt it was quite sparse in toppings.
📷 AMBIENCE: typical Viet restaurant. Small, cramped tables, busy, but authentic.
🧂SERVICE: okay.

📖 LOG: 2019.07.20.

Great Bun Bo Hue, average Pho but friendly service. Living in Melbourne gives you a great variety and range of Vietnamese eateries. I ventured to Co Do for the first time as I was told that its Bun Bo Hue was the best. It did not disappoint- the soup was spicy, flavorful and well balanced with a generous amount of meat and garnish. Co Do also offers different levels of spiciness so for anyone who is particularly sensitive, I would advise going mild. The Pho however was very average - the meat was very fatty and the soup was not seasoned well enough. Although fish sauce etc is always provided to suit our tastes, I believe that the soup was too diluted for any amount of fish sauce to reignite any level of flavor.

It's one of my favorite places for Bun Bo Hue and Bun Riew. Piping hot and mildly spicy, BBH is just a perfect comfort food for a cold day. It shows there's more to vietnamese food than just pho and spring roll.

Our go-to joint!!! Pretty quick service, feels and tastes authentic. Don’t expect much from the staff to give you more attention than you need as they don’t have time for dat!!!! Haha. Just go for the food, that’s enough to keep you coming back! Always go for either the bun bo hue or bun rieu, while the other half’s go-to is the Beef pho with the peppercorn sausages.
AH
The best pho on Victoria Street! I have never had a bad experience at Co Do, and all of the dishes I’ve had here have been great. I recommend this place to everyone looking for an authentic Vietnamese meal in Melbourne.
Piggyeatalot
2.5 stars ⭐️ came highly recommended but was left disappointed. The pork spring rolls wasn’t that great, I have had better elsewhere like District Pho, perhaps it was what pork they use and marinade but it just wasn’t amazing.

My bun rieu has all the basic ingredients of bun rieu (pork loaf, pigs blood, crab pork and egg cake) but the flavour of the soup is ok, nothing amazing and too much msg
Jessica Tsakmakis
We ordered two dishes - the rare beef pho which was super tasty (would come back for it) however the Mongolian beef and rice was a let down, it was too sweet for our liking.
The inside of the restaurant was really nice unlike some
Of the other Vietnamese restaurants along Victoria street.
Was herr recently for breakfast at 10.30am and was rather surprise they were already so busy at that time!

Both hubby and I got the Bun Bo Hue - mine in a small and hubby in medium size. Great to have sizing option as I can never finish a large bowl and its such a waste.

Good tasty broth. Not as spicy as I expected and tad bit too salty so def need that full squeeze of lime piece. Good amount of noodles, beef slice, pork loaf and garnishes.

Service was quick and efficient. Only had to wait approx 10min.

Yesterday I had lunch here. Everything was all good till when I paid my bill. there should be $5 change but the waitress gave me a bunch of coins of 10c, 20c and 50c. This started to get on my nerve a bit but I didnt mind much. carrying a heavy pile of coins, I went to deposit at my bank, yet the total was only$4.40. i felt like cheated though it was just a small sum of money!! it really ruined the experience here

Had an early family dinner and ordered pho and spring rolls. Waitress was attentive and food arrived quickly. However, the soup was bland with big pieces of black pepper which did not go down well with my 4 year old daughter. When paying the bill, I asked for an invoice to claim for work. It seemed to be so troublesome for the waiter and he then proceeded to give me a receipt with one item that we didn’t order. Doubt we will be returning anytime soon.

As we walked down victoria street, trying to decide which restaurant to have dinner, Co Do appear to be one of the busiest ones on the strip, so decided to have a try. We were not disappointed. Lots of choices on the menu, there’s something for everyone. We had four dishes to share. sweet sour fish was delicious, kids loved it. Lemon chicken was a bit yellow, almost glowing in the dark, but flavor wasn’t too bad. Mongolian chicken was a bit on the bland side but kids still enjoyed it. Prawn omelette had a flavorsome sauce over it and prawns were fresh. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
The_littlehungrylife
This place was ok. I did find the service was not the best and the food here was average. We had a few children and the waitress decided to place the hot dish on the table in front of three and five year old children.

Customer health and safety was not consider whilst she placed hot bowl of pho down it, she decided to go over the children instead of the side with the adults. There was plenty of space to put the dishes in front of the adults. I was quite concern that she was going to spill the meal on the kids.
Co Do in Richmond. It is just next to my favourite pho Dzung restaurant. I tried to dine in during dinner time for the beef noodle to compare with Dzung one. It is a bit disappointed that the broth is not that tasty and fresh at all.
Daniel
Was quite happy with the customer service and portion of the condiments, however the pho soup was very blend and noodles didn’t seem fresh.

Rating: 3.8 - 4.0
Food:
- Bun Bo Hue: lots of different toppings, some might sound a little exotic but are all delicious. The noodles were well-cooked but not mushy. I usually prefer my noodles that way so I didn't mind. The beef was tender and all of the pork loaf/beef loaf were good as well (they tasted quite different from each other despite looking very similar).
- Com Tam: another classic. The grilled pork was flavourful and tender. The pickles were nice and helped to balance out the dish. However, I didn't enjoy the egg pate that much as it seemed to lack flavour.

Price: huge portion and low/average price compared to other restaurants. Totally worth it.

Service: I ordered takeaway. The way they packed the food wasn't all that pretty but I do understand that Com Tam has lots of components to it so I don't mind.

Love Co Do! Was the perfect feed before watching Crazy Rich Asians last night.
Perfect reminder of what good hearty Vietnamese fare should be like.
Amazing pho, bun bo hue, and broken rice!

Will be back again. ⭐️

I always go here for the bun bo hue. Always my go to place if I want to eat bun no hue. The broth was great! Perfect ratio of noodles to meat.

Been visiting this Resturant for years and their food never disappoint. I normally order the crab meat noddle. One thing to be aware of, is don’t stir the soup too much as it will be come dilute and it tastes much better when the soup is concentrated. The other dish to try is the beef offal congee which comes with fried Chinese pancake. The side chilli is hot and goes well with the soup
ArchieTheHipster
This place is popular for the spicy beef noodle soup which comes in different option of sizing. Even the name may sound spicy, it is not really hot, which I like about. Company of the bowl of noodle is a generous plate of mixed salad.
Jamie
Yet another delicious, authentic, tasty pho experience in Richmond. Service was fast, efficient, and food came out quickly. Portions were great, and they were generous with their meat. Definitely will be back!

I feel this restaurant is a bit over rated. There are a number of better viet restaurants within walking distance. springrolls were the only food dish we have. We were all a little underwhelmed with all the other dishes our group ordered.
Sunny Days Melbourne
We have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Their best item has to be the bun bo hue. The broth is spicy and full of flavour. The bowl is filled with meats and you ladle in your own fresh vegetables. What a treat! For a heart warming meal, this is the place to go. Service is always efficient but curt at times.
MF
I ordered bun rieu and it was good but not the best that ive eaten, the bun with beef wrapped in bettle leaf was okay and the spring roll was good. Service was good and the restaurant itself was spacious and comfortable.
Overall a good viet dining option in richmond area, and might come back.
Keeping It Real
Had the sweet & sour fish and prawn rice paper rolls from here a couple of times. Similar to Old Kingdom in Fitzroy, some of the fish is a bit fishy/old tasting and not as fresh as it should be. The sweet & sour sauce however is great (better than Old Kingdom). Rice paper rolls are ok, bit thin and need more filling for my liking. Having said that, I would order them again. The sauce that comes with them is nut based and tasty. Once again, there are a lot of outstanding reviews for this place but I would say it is average only. Am keen to try the free range chicken salad - maybe that will be a game changer.

Food : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good Vietnamese pancake
Price : ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quite expensive but I had a great portion - So good value
Service : ⭐️⭐️ Could ne more friendly
Ambience : ⭐️⭐️ Alright but nothing special - Vietnamese music

We came here for lunch on a Sunday around noon. The place was nice and quiet. We ordered the rice drop noodles with pork and prawn along with a side of prawn spring rolls. I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles as the broth was tasted clean and flavourful. Service was attentive as well.

Purple place. Best known for yummy Bun Bo Hue. Fresh and smooth avocado smoothie. Casual eatery. Authentic food. Positive reviews about this place via word of mouth .

Just moved into Richmond and was eager to try some of the well known Vietnamese restaurants down Victoria St. Co Do seemed to review well, so off I went with my family and friends. We ordered a generous number of dishes so we could try more items. We all seemed to leave underwhelmed, a couple dishes were ok, but the mains especially lacked flavour. We'll be trying out other places down the streetsoon, and will hopefully find a 'regular' great little place to visit every so often.

Food Master
Good food. Chicken lemon grass & Crispy pepper pork are favorite of all times. They do tasty noodle soups too. However the taste of their food has changed slightly. I know the owner Sam moved out from here & runs the Sunshine Co Do. However I’m not quite satisfied with food & service as much as much when he was in Richmond. The food is value for money though...

As a local my partner and I come here at least once a fortnight. Our favourite dishes are chilli beef soup which is delicious and spring rolls (mixed)! The pho’s and soups are the best we have found in the Richmond area! The spring rolls are also delicious (I am spring roll crazy)! Co do brings out the food quickly, staff are efficient and the food is already delicious and just want we need after a day at work. Defiantly one of our favourite places!

I ordered through uber eats and I was pleasantly surprised to get the food delivered before their eta. I ordered the rare beef and beef balls pho and it was such a good value ($12 for large) and they were so generous with the meat!! Usually I would only get a few slices of meat but I had meat in every spoonfull. Very happy, very full, will order again.
Matcha Nerd
Had a bowl of small bun bo hue for lunch...Interestingly savoury for me and my Vietnamese friend says it's "good". it's 9.5 aud so it's economic as well.

Also ordered a plate of banh beo, which is unimpressive - too bland given the price. Fish sauce here is poor, begs improvement.

Loved the custard apple smoothie - the sweetness and creaminess is just perfect!!!
Overall, service is alright and I would recommend trying the noodles.
Gee
We were craving some legit Vietnamese so we ventured down to Victoria Street and dodged the druggies and made our way to Co Do. The prawn spring rolls were delish and we could have eaten another plate. The bun bo la lot nice and juicy with dry noodles on the side. The Vietnamese pancake, while huge, was filled with mainly bean sprouts and only had two (2) pieces of pork.
Amyna
One of my favourite vietnam place. Vegetables always freah and clean. Soup is just right and light. Warm me up, calm me down. As a years returning customer, a big thumb for them. A small family business but doing good.
James
One of the best pho on Victoria street certainly the best broth. White iced coffee is good size. Every time you ask you for a small you get a medium so can feel a bit wasteful but sure is tasty. Their chef specialty soups for something different are good but intimating to western palate
Tk
The Food is good but customer service so bad and don’t get cheated with your bill. Asked multiple times for tissues and containers and didn’t receive had to get them ourselves. Was a busy place however crappy service and nearly got charged $10 more than we ordered
Clarinna
Had a really good bowl of pho here, i honestly always go to pho chu te or i love pho when im around this area but my friend really liked this place so we went. definitely try their pancake if you want something to share, it is huge and filled with prawns, pork and bean sprouts. The pho soup was really good, i finished mine completely. My friend liked the spicy one and i tried it was yum, not too spicy. This place was full with customers from the moment we walked in till we left. However, the service was still fast and efficient. And if you want something sweet, try their custard apple smoothie!
Trang Pham
I came here today expecting something delicious because of good reviews. However, it was just average. The food has reasonable price but not high quality. Broken rice (cơm tấm) is too oily and presented badly. The steamed pancake (bánh bèo) is too thick (a lot of batter) but cold and flavour is so wrong. Staff wasn’t nice. The hygience is not good as well (I noticed a dirty fork and a dirty cup). Maybe I ordered the wrong things cause the only thing was good is the free tea on the table
Scrumptious GG
We had a lovely dinner here. Good service, great food.
Very nice BBH, although they forgot the pork hock and too bad I just noticed that at the end of our meal. Tasty soup, generous veggies, and the soft rice noodle all combined deliciously inside the bowl.
We also ordered pork spring rolls, crispy egg noodle with seafood n veggies, fried rice noodle with combination n veggies, and crispy chicken spare ribs with salt n pepper, and everything was just gorgeous.
We were too full to order any dessert, but will definitely do next time.
Good Food Good Mood
My sister and I came here for lunch and despite some unsavoury characters lingering around outside (Victoria st can sometimes be sketchy) it was a very tasty not to mention extremely cheap meal. It’s pretty no frills decor and atmosphere wise but it’s a very authentic and flavourful experience. There are endless options to chose from with all your traditional Vietnamese options available. Rice paper rolls are a must
J Nguyen
One of the more authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne, not westernised at all which is good. One of the only Vietnamese restaurants I actually eat at and enjoy. My family and I come back all the time, would recommend highly.
Benito
Always the best. The greatest Bun Bo Hue in Melbourne the mix of flavours in the stock is just phenomenal! Great service. You won’t regret going here.
Tina Tran
I have been going here since I was a little kid!
This is my go to Vietnamese restaurant when I'm in Richmond, especially when I'm craving bun bo hue, banh xeo or banh canh. (which they do so well)
Alan Tiong Et-Ming
Good Vietnamese meal. The staff here is friendly. The portion here is adequate. Nice place for friends and family to hang out. Good ambience with all the customers around here. Chatty atmosphere for those who prefer that over a quiet setting.
Baby Kitty
Best bun bo hue in Melbourne. This place is always packed, i believe it is one of the more popular restaurants in Richmond. A cheap eat too. I will definitely be returning!
Nen
Co do serves authentic vietnamese dishes and it's not your typical pho and bun bo hue place, they have so many varieties! Viet food is so much more than pho and rice paper rolls. Try something new, you wont be disappointed here. For the busy people who prefer takeaway, you're in luck because portions are usually quite small when you get take away but my bun rieu was massive. I could have split it into two bowls if I wanted but the food was so good, I ate it all in one go.

DO: The BBH or Bun Thit Nuong. Actually anything really? It's all in English and you can customize as you please.

DON'T: Forget to order the iced coffee

TIP: Parking is horrible. Download the paystay app so you don't have to fumble for coins.
Costa
WOW WOW WOW. Such absolutely delicious pho along with beautiful BBQ pork and how about the duck! Fried rice is exceptional as well. We ordered off Uber eats so can't attest to the whole experience, but on food alone. Absolutely great - even travels well!
Joel
A few weeks back I got food poisoning from a pho chicken soup from Co Do. The full works for a few days then wiped out for the rest of the week... I'll never return. Give this place a big miss! Makes me feel ill even just thinking about it. Was almost (and probably should) going to report them incase they were getting others sick.
PierogiPundit
Very average and bland. The black bean sauce tastes old and off. Not much flavor in anything we ordered- spring rolls, rice noodles. I regret ordering from here today.
Mitochondria Powerhouse
My main place for Vietnamese food on Victoria street; it isn't amazing but gets the job done. All the dishes are pretty good, so I'll mention what I don't like. Their Pho Bo is about a 5/10 - the one I had wasn't clear, and the raw beef being used was quite chewy. I should also note at this point that the jars of chilli oil also contain shrimp paste (?), which was unexpected. The vegetable spring rolls they use contain some sort of starchy vegetable, which I don't find very texturally pleasing, and the accompanying nuoc cham is overly sweet, with no garlic/chilli.

Nonetheless, I continue to attend; FYI it can get pretty busy on weekend lunch and dinner periods
Jeffry
The place was packed and full of people; but we didn't wait too long cause they managed to squeeze us up and set up a new table.
The customer service was great and attentive.
We ordered broken rice and rice vermicelli with shredded pork and spring rolls.
They dishes were great, well cooked, good quality and very recommended :)
DumplingDoll
Heard a lot about this place and finally went to the other side of the cbd to try some BBH. I've been looking for good BBH for a long time and haven't found any yet! More so because the MsG flavours are too strong.
Though Co Do is not known for their service, which I can attest to that! The food is tasty and authentic. The BBH was tasty and the flavours weren't too over powering. My friend had the Bun Rieu, which was just as tasty! We also shared the stuffed chicken wings, which was freshly fried, just needed a little salt.
I'll be back!

This place is one of my favourites in Richmond, if not my favourite Vietnamese restaurant.Always fresh and fragrant in the flavours and subtilties of the food.I usually order the Spicy Beef Pho, which is absolutely delicious as well as the rice paper rolls and other dishes on rare occasions.I have never had a bad meal at Co Do.Give it a try, you will be glad you did!!

Hi! We've been to Co Do Richmond for a quick bite to eat many times for lunch and dinner during the week and weekend.

It is consistently perfect, fresh and fast.

We often start with prawn and pork rice paper rolls, you cannot go wrong with these tasty little rolls.

Then a rice noodle and chicken Pho LARGE! $11 and it is a meal, great value for money. Their broth has a really nice flavor and the standard leafy greens, chili, lemon and bean shoots that accompany hit the spot every time without fail.

The prawn with chili and lemongrass on rice is another favorite and at $12 is a meal by it's self.

The service is always fast and it is a perfect light, healthy meal.

This is a great place to go for a traditional Vietnamese Pho.

Highly recommend and will be back.

I went down Victoria Street with friends for some cheap Vietnamese food. One of them felt like pho and me and our other friend felt like something different. We looked on Zomato and Co Do looked like a great option but unfortunately it wasn't for us. Some people may say we ordered the wrong things but I say "if you can't cook it properly don't have it on the menu".

The menu was overwhelming and there were way too many choices. My friend was so overwhelmed she just ended up having her pho. She liked her pho and said it was one of the best she's had except it was mostly broth and didn't have many noodles. My other friend ordered the sizzling beef with pepper sauce because that's what he enjoys at other restaurants. When the beef came out there wasn't much meat, it was mostly uncooked vegetables and the beef looked grey. I tried some, it was rubbery and tasted pretty bland. I felt pretty bad for him, his dish won the wooden spoon for worst of the night. I saw the banh xeo which looked really good, I was going to order that but I saw on the menu they had fish with tamarind sauce. I've had this dish in Hoi An and it was beautiful, it was a whole fish cooked with a beautiful tamarind sauce. On the menu it said the dish was "market price" so I assumed it was a whole fresh fish like in Vietnam. I was surprised when it came out because it was chunks of battered fish in sauce that looked like it was thickened with corn flour. I tasted the fish and it was obvious that it was cheap frozen fish. I feel like I was mislead by the "market price" on the menu. The sauce tasted ok but it wasn't the beautiful sour sauce I had in Hoi An. One of the waitresses asked if I wanted to take my meal home and I said no, which was unusual for me. She also asked my friend and there was no way he was taking his home hehehe. I also ordered the three colour drink, it was actually a bit too sweet.

Most of the staff here were friendly enough however there was one staff member who rudely leant over me to put the utensils in the basket thingy on the table. When I said "excuse me, I'm still eating" she said "sorry" but kept leaning over me anyway. I thought that was very strange especially since we were nearly finished anyway. When we got home my friend was really thirsty after eating her pho, we assume that's from heavy handed MSG, she now has an upset tummy. It's always disappointing going out to a restaurant and eating a bad meal but it's even worse when it's a restaurant with a good reputation. Maybe things would have been different if I ordered the banh xeo and if my friend ordered something else but I can only review the food I've eaten and tried. My recommendation for this restaurant is to go through their menu and only keep things that they do well. Often with the menu, less is more. I don't know if I'll come back here because tonight's food was so appalling but if I do I'll choose more wisely.

A popular Vietnamese restaurant that pretty much sells everything you want. From rice to soup dishes, this place is probably the best viet restaurant on Vic St. The Bun Bo Hue is absolutely amazing. Price is fairly cheap as well and service is fast and efficient.
Bailey Mulholland
I had the bun rieu, it was so delicious 😋 can't wait to come back and try more! Tea is nice and restaurant is tidy looking. Great value for money.

A nice restaurant but would not go there again. Our entrees (prawn spring rolls) arrived after our main meal (prawns with black bean sauce and prawns with cane sugar) and when I asked for additional plates I had to explain twice the reason ie we wanted to share the main meal. The food was edible but untasty and given all arrived at the same time the mains got cold. If you do go then make sure you let them know that the entrees need to arrive way before the mains. The staff could also be a little cheerful as they were very unhappy looking campers.
Monica612
Simple menu, authentic Vietnamese food and cheap price for the noodles and drink. Very nice pho. But the waitress asked us twice whether we want to start with spring rolls, so we had to take the order. It comes with 6 small fried rolls but cost $10. I wasn't very happy with it.

taste alright. or say average? order a combination beef noodle and rice as well. two drink, i have to say the avocado smoothie can be made much better, still room to impove

Came here for quick lunch which turned into not-so quick lunch. Ordered chicken ribs on rice which came 40 minutes later after my partner finished his meal. The batter was so thick u cant taste the chicken. Although my partner's pho was ok.

I absolutely love the BBH and come here at least once a week.

Compared to most other Vietnamese restaurants, the dish is not so oily, and the meat is very tender. The salad/bean shoots serving is very generous.

It can be sometimes overwhelming deciding which of Victoria Street’s Vietnamese are deserving of your dining. What I’ve learnt so far is that is pretty good all around! My usual barometer of quality is the level of crowd, and in the new year buzz Co Do looked like a bustling venue. There’s definitely a lacuna of difference in how busy some of these stores and for better or worse, I go off that. Today for only $11 I had the crispy chicken with vermicelli noodles dry style. Chicken was tender with a good spice and the dry noodles were a nice alternative with light flavours and contrast of textures including fried onion and cashews. Good enough to come back and cheap enough to come back often. Yum.

Co Do sticks true to its roots as one of Victoria St's oldest Vietnamese restaurants. It has one of the best Bo Bun Hue that I have had the pleasure of trying. The staff is aware, but not necessarily welcoming, and the environment is that of a typical Vietnamese eating house. The drinks here are standard, and the homemade yogurt is of good quality and is refreshing after a hot bowl of soup noodles.

My partner and I have been hooked on the original Co Do (Richmond) ever since we read Matt Preston's review. What makes Co Do special is their entree menu - they offer dishes that not many Vietnamese restaurants have. Our faves are the "banh bot loc" and "banh beo". As for mains, we can't go past...

The food is good but the place is a mess when busy! The waiters are delivering food to the wrong tables so we got out entre after we complained at the end of our meal and they forgot another main dish which we had to point out.

2/5 for food quality, high prices, seats are very dates and old

Someone wanted pho & I wanted broken rice. And this eatery was closest to where I parked my car. Price was ok for the portion. Flavours are good and tasty but not my thing when I prefer subtle flavours. But I'm sure it would be enjoyed by most when they food are tasty. Service was attentive. Not bad.
Jade_crystal23
Never disappointed on the food menu, reasonable price, delicious and friendly staffs. My favourite restaurant. Broken rice with pork chop, Hue style noodle, beef noodle are all delicious
MelbToSyd
my favourite on victoria street for their bun bo hue and banh xeo (vietnamese pancake). food is served quick, hot and delicious.
no frills restaurant so don't expect high level service but the staff are friendly and accommodating.
MelbourneFoodPaparazza
Came to this restaurant with family including a relative from Singapore, and ordered a variety of dishes including two types of spring rolls to share, Beef Pho, a number of Bun Bo Hue bowls, and a variety of Broken Rice Dishes. Spring rolls were nice and crunchy with a tangy dipping sauce, at the standard small size but with a plentiful serving. The Bun Bo Hue was excellent with its herbal and spicy flavours, and comparatively large serving of braised brisket in the soup. The broken rice dishes were enjoyed by those who ordered them. However, it was felt that the Beef Pho was a little lacking with relatively tough rather than tender beef. This having been said, prices and service were very good, and perhaps made up for the slip ups in quality of the Pho and the rather utilitarian (and packed) dining room!
Vivalaivy
i come here often to have the spicy beef noodles (bun bo hue) this is a specialty dish of this restaurant - very tasty and the price is pretty good. apart from that they have the vietnamese pancakes (banh xeo) which is nice too. It's one of the good one in all the restaurant on victoria street. Sorry for the bad photo - i forgot to take a photo when the dish was just served.
Hannah
I've been to this restaurant twice and quite like their BBH, but they certainly have no customer service at all and they don't really give a damn. So two weeks ago I went with my friend on a beautiful sunday arvo, i ordered a "Vietnamese Ice coffee"with this owner lady. She friggin gave me a lecture and altitude how to order an ice coffee cos there's difference about milk or sugar or whatever and i need to specifically tell her white or black otherwise she won't know...even during the convo, I've tried to stop the pointless convo by telling her I'd like to get a "Caphe Sua Da" please and she's still keep going non-stop.
The food is nice there but thanks to this rude woman just ruined it completely. You might own the restaurant but you don't own the world...they seem to forget what customer service called when they are successful.
Chris
One of our regular lists, also is our first choice of pho in Melbourne. Tastes always good, friendly staffs and great value for money. Must to try it if you are a pho lover. Highly recommend!!
Ant
Boss pho at his place, was never really a fan of pho till my friend took me to this place.
Pretty standard Victoria street atmosphere, with the standard service.
Cheap good quality Vietnamese pho, I'll be back.
Veronica_Veezus
Its good, we had the rare beef and brisket phone, broken rice with the lot , and longan drink.
POSITIVE: staff was attentive, clean restaurant and cheap. Broken rice was tasty and pho was delicious.
NEGATIVE : the long an drink was diabetes in a cup, ultra sweet all syrup needed to be diluted even the crushed ice didn't change the flavour.

My another adventure for the super yummy Vietnamese noodle soup in Victoria St Richmond. I like the beef and tendon noodle soup here. The freshness from the chillies, basil leave and lemon together with the tasty beef noodles just keep luring me back to this street every week.
TweeVy Ngo
BBH is one of their signature dishes, so I had to try it out for myself. The serving size and meats were good however there was a lack of spice in their spicy soup. I had to add a large amount of Sriracha sauce to get a hit of it. Providing chilli on the side would be much preferred. Besides that, the dish itself was quite standard.
Cassandra Ngo
Last week, during my work break I decided to head here for a quick Bun Bo Hue for lunch. I've eaten here before, but this time around it was rather unpleasant. I was two mouthfuls into my meal where I saw a live caterpillar crawling amongst my salad that was in my bowl. This shows the lack of cleanliness at the restaurant in regards to them washing their greens with care before serving it to customers. Definitely will not be coming back again.

Always pleasant ...

Especially cold melbourne winter for some Beef pho.
Omlette is not bad either and their Vietnamese Pork Springrolls.

One of the cleanest along that strip.
Clotilde.blanchet10
Seven of us ate like kings for under $15 a head. Loved the spring rolls, rare beef pho & must have the Vietnamese omelet which is huge. Decor a bit basic but food is fresh and delicious. Brilliant. Cheap eat.
Charmaine Wong
Everything we ordered tasted superb! The pork spring rolls here are exceptionally good compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. However, the soup of my rare beef and tripe was a little too sweet but other than that, there's no fault with this dish. A fair amount of beef tripes were added and that definitely made me a happy person as some restaurants only serve few pieces which I think it's not so worth it. My sister's crab meat vermicelli rice noodle soup was equally good and that soup! Damn! That's like the best soup you can ever taste. So I'd definitely recommend these three dishes we've ordered to anyone :) will be back for more soon

My favourite restaurant on Vic St. Have tried a lot of the others but keep coming back to Co Do. Pho is excellent, so is the chilli lemongrass chicken, diced garlic beef and salt and pepper prawns (with out shell).
Greta Punch
Excellent and fast. The Vietnamese pancake my friend ordered was massive and I was unprepared. I did like my pho a lot though, I had rare beef and brisket and I'm a fan. Would definitely recommend to a friend and I'd certainly return.

Always our pick on Vic St- never a bad meal in all of our years visiting. Love the Viet omelette and the noodle soups and pho! Relaxed atmosphere and fast service.

We decided to try Co Do for their bun bo hue, since they have it advertised on their street sign and it's listed under Co Do's "Specials" section of their menu. Since we don't really like the traditional Vietnamese round, bun noodle, we ordered #4 sliced rare beef with chili beef soup with flat rice noodles instead. They had no problem with the alteration. The sides they give you vary from what is traditionally given at a Vietnamese restaurant. Instead of a plate of bean sprounts, lemon/lime wedges, and Thai basil, they substitute lettuce for the basil. It's an interesting choice, since it gives a little crunch to the meal, but doesn't impart flavor. My husband didn't care for the lettuce and would've preferred the Thai basil. Our soup broth had a slight hint of heat, but it was actually very mild compared to the other bun bo hue we have tried. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily list that soup as their specialty because it was like a regular beef pho, with a little hot sauce, and some odd lettuce.
Allison Prasser
I always enjoy the food here. It is fast, tasty and cheap. I love that it is BYO. Especially enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken ribs and the sizzling beef.
Hannah Budge
The broken rice dish here is so so tasty, although I would've loved to have received a bowl of the usual broth with my takeaway tonight. All of the components were delicious, so glad I bothered to try this place. It was packed out on Monday night, which is always a good sign!
World In A Bite
Good cheap meals - apparently one of the best places to have pho ... I'm no expert in pho... I think their pho tastes good... The Vietnamese pancake is to die for! Must try!
Hungry Caterpillar
The must order BBH (Bun Bo Hue). The broth was mild to spicy. For a small bowl there was a generous amount of meat. I was surprised the soup wasn't flooded with lemongrass and spices like other restaurants, which is a good thing. Overall it was a good tasty bowl of BBH.
Edward Schweitzer
It's all about the food here guys. As with most of these Victoria street places BYO some nice Riesling and then go nuts on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious at bargain prices. Also it seems a little cleaner and friendlier than the competition. My go to in the category.
Matt Sten
Really good tasting food and well proportioned. We shared a fish with shallots and ginger as well as sliced chicken with black bean. We could only finish half. My pick along Vic street.
David Liao
If you sick of pho, you won't be disappointed here. This place serves spicy beef stock with spaghetti like noodle.
Rhianna
One of the bests Vietnamese restaurants on Victoria Street so far! Large portions of food, quick service and cheap too! I had the dry rice noodle with chicken and prawn and there was a lot of flavour in the sauce. My friend ordered Pho and the broth was also flavoursome. Delicious food and would definitely go back
Minda Barley
Co Do was one of the first restaurants we went to when we first arrived and I remember enjoying it but then we ended up discovering pho at I Love Pho and roast duck at Pacific House so it was easily forgotten. But recently I've been enjoying Viet style pork chop on rice and after an ok offering at Xeom and a favourite at Hao Phuong in Footscray, I'm keen to find a good place North of the river.
Putfoodinme_
My favourite place on Victoria Street. It's quick, cheap, the menu is extensive and the food is always delicious. I love that Co Do is so close to home and easily one of my staple restaurant choices when cooking something just seems too hard. LOVE their lemongrass chili beef - it's always a must order.
Mr MM Smith
fantastic BBH accompanied by a huge omelette and Three Colours and coffee..service is quick and attentive, food fresh and wholesome, and we left feeling a lot fuller than when we arrived.
Happy Kath
The pork spring rolls were crispy but they didn't really have much meat in them, it was mostly glass noodles & veg. The vermicelli salad was not good. They cut the pork into tiny pieces & then mix it thru ground baked rice & glass noodles. It makes the salad gritty & not very tasty. I won't go back.
Luke And Hannah
Tasty noodle dishes, cheap Viet food!

Here we tried their signfature dish which is the rice vermicelli with shredded chicken meat. The soup was naturally sweet, wholesome, and balanced. The chicken was very tender and cooked well. We would recommend trying the chicken coleslaw which is an alternative to serving the chicken in the noodle bowl.

We also tried the Bun Bo Hue (Beef Noodles Soup) here but it was a bit too hot for our liking.

The Vietnamese milk coffee was lovely but we'd preferred crushed ice.
Stow Food
Egg noodles with prawns and vegetables $14. A little awkward ordering with the waiter looking over your shoulder, but apart from that, this place is excellent. Tea was hot and a slight vanilla flavour. Selection of sauces and chili was on point. The food is top notch and no worries with eftpos payment. Will be back.
Ant
a gem of a place in Victoria street - we went here on the back of our Vietnam holiday in search of a good banh xeo and we were unanimous in our decision that the Banh Xeo we had here was better than anything we had in Vietnam and that is saying something. The pork spring rolls are awesome and with a bottle shop a couple of doors down its easy to grab a BYO wine! Love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it was pumping and the smells were divine! put this on your list as an absolute must cheap eat in Richmond. PS - the Banh Xeo's are massive, and easily constitute a main!
James Quach
This restaurant is hands down the best place in Richmond to have a delicious bowl of Bún bò Huế. Relatively cheap pricing and friendly service. Would highly recommend.
Ryan In Melbourne
Cheap and cheerful vietnamese, always busy which is a good sign. The TV's that are on both sides of the restaurant can easily distract from conversation and the food. I had the salt & pepper squid which was quite good, and prawn spring rolls. Portion sizes are quite large for the price.
ItsTrueFatKidsLoveFood
Came here the other night to try a different vietnamese place then my regulars. Was very impressed with the food, the pancake was one of the best I've ever had.
Food Comatose
For an entree we ordered the prawn and pork rice paper rolls (4 for $6.50) and pork spring rolls (8 for $7.50). I loved the rich, sweet peanut sauce that came with the rice paper rolls as well as the sides of fresh iceberg lettuce and nuoc nam to wrap and dip the spring rolls in. Then for the mains we indulged in the sizzling duck with plum sauce and a side of rice ($16.50) and the Bun with chargrilled beef ($12.50). Let me tell you something - duck and plum are a match made in heaven!! We demolished that duck coated in beautiful sweet plum sauce but the Bun was disappointing. Bun (cold veremicelli noodle salad with meat and vegetables) is normally my number one pick when it comes to Vietnamese food but I definitely won't be ordering it here anymore. I think they've changed their recipe or the way they cook the beef because it definitely wasn't chargrilled, the lettuce and veggies were roughly chopped not finely sliced and they didn't even served it with nuoc nam to pour over it :(
Snow Crab Nebula
I got a small bowl ($9.50?) since we were also sharing a banh xeo . The pho was pretty nice; I loved that it came with plenty of onions, coriander and pepper. The broth was probably more aromatic than usual but still not as much as I like. Additionally, the beef was probably also not as thin and tender than the ideal. However, it was still a very tasty bowl of pho and due to my hunger at the late dinner, I wolfed it down.

Work's been driving me crazy these days and to think that this is just a 4 day work week. I thought I'm just supposed to breeze through without any problems. Turns out, today has been the worst of all the working days! Let's try this again. I'm behind with a few posts now so let me start with an oldie - Co Do. Been here once with my cousin and his wife for dinner. It was decent enough to come back to and the place is always busy with regulars. Sis is in town for a few weeks and her first request was - yep! Spring Rolls ($8-8.50). I remembered when she first came to Melbourne and I wanted her to try these. Not that we don't have spring rolls in Manila (we call them shanghai rolls) but the Vietnamese version is fresher and crunchier with the combination of hot and cold. We weren't too impressed with the nuoc cham and was too watery and bland. Other dishes that we had include... Sweet and Sour Stir Fry Vegetables and Tofu ($10-11). I'm not really sure about this one. Probably just stay

Amongst the uncountable choices of Vietnamese restaurants, we picked a random one called Bun Bo Hue Co Do Vietnamese Restaurant because it was one of the most crowded. Figuring that locals should know their way around when it comes to food, we settled in here. Phở Tái Chín, S:8AUD/M:9AUD/L:10AUD Jan ordered p hở with rare beef while I ordered p hở with rare beef and chicken. Chicken on a p hở? I thought it was odd and they offered it so I gave it a try. I loved it, not as much as I love the rare beef but it was still pretty good. The soup is very authentic, fragrant and flavoursome. Its not thick nor oily, jus
Pho Realz
This was by far the most pleasing bowl of pho we have had in our long history of pho blogging. The broth was nice and hot, just what you need on a cold wintery day (Melbourne’s weak excuse for autumn). And the rare beef was actually RARE. Aunty Mary’s day just got that little bit better (at which point Niece Cindy, as she edits this post, wishes to remind her that her spelling is appalling. And that she’s also barren and betrothed to a robot). They were a bit stingy with the bean sprouts, lemon and basil and we only had 1 beef ball in our pho. ONE! (this was quartered to give the illusion of more)

Co Do is where J and I slurped our first bowl of pho back when we were still in the early stages of gawkily trying to impress each other. Less than a year later, we were sitting on small plastic stools in the streets of Hanoi enjoying early morning breakfast pho. If there’s any culinary motif in our relationship, it’s probably pho. A self-inflicted Sunday hangover beckoned a large, herby bowl of pho so it was off to Co Do because sub-par pho was not going to slay this dragon. By time we arrived, Co Do was packed to the brim but we managed to squeeze in next to a family. We both ordered chicken & beef regular pho, coconut juice and a requisite side order of prawn spring rolls. The spring rolls arrived before the pho – hot, crunchy. Impeccable timing meant that by time our bowls arrived, the spring rolls had reached a temperature that wasn’t going to cause 3rd degree mouth-burns. The spring rolls were the perfect tool to infuse in the broth without losing their crunch. The broth was beautifully herby, with overtones of beef bones and marrow and undertones of star anise and toasted cumin. A mountain of fresh Thai basil, mint, and crunchy beansprouts was plonked in between us, which perfectly balanced out the deeper beef flavour of the broth. A squeeze of lemon rounded the broth. The meat was plentiful, with beautiful thin slices of rare beef and generous slices of chicken. The rice noodles were al dente before becoming slightly softer during the pho-fest. The coconut juice was your standard sweet young coconut juice with massive squares of coconut flesh – the perfect confidant to a salty broth. Co Do is perhaps my favourite pho restaurant on Victoria St and not just for sentimental reasons. J actually had his first bowl of pho here about 10 years ago so it has more than stood the test of time. It is well worth the drive and enduring the nightmarish parking plight to feast upon a bowl of pho at Co Do.
Amy W
Understandably, a good stock is absolutely crucial to a good pho. Co Do’s offering was rich, complex and meaty. The slices of meat were nice and tender. It is probably the best pho I’ve had in Melbourne. I’m definitely not going to go back to any of those other places with their instant stock and overcooked beef!
Piecey Num Nums
The soup was lovely. The broth flavourful, heaps of yummy noodles and the chicken and beef beautifully cooked. A very generous serve.
Happiness Is A Warm Gut
So recently I mentioned that pho standards at Co Do have slipped. Since then I've been back a few times and ordered other types of noodle soups. I am delighted to report that their other noodle soups are delicious! Also, our regular waiter, who was nowhere in sight during our last trip, is back again. There is a high chance he doesn't even remember us, but somewhere behind that sombre expression and deadpan inquiry of "you finish yet", I swear there is a flicker of recognition! Dave loves the rare beef chili soup (Bun Bo Hue) and refuses to order anything else here. Definitely one of the things to get when you're here. One of the dishes that have really grown on me is the bamboo and duck soup with rice vermicelli. I've had this dish twice, and have nothing but love for it. Thin round rice vermicelli noodles in a clear soup with pieces of duck and dried bamboo shoot strips- so simple but delicious. It also comes with a lightly sweet ginger dipping sauce that really perks up the dish. On

I have been to Co Do a few times and don't remember ever being disappointed. It does a great Pho when I am feeling less adventurous and when I feel like trying something different, its menu serves up an array of delights that include a variety of noodle dishes [dropped rice noodles, rice vermicelli, egg nooodle etc etc etc), rice dishes and stir-fried dishes. There is such a delightful buzz about this place. I decided to order one of my very favourite dishes! Steamed mini pancakes with minced prawn and green bean paste. The steamed mini pancakes were soft and delicate. A very flavoursome dish that will set you back a mere $8.00. Overall Impression: 7/10 Casual dining. Very good Vietnamese food. Entrees $5.50-$9; mains $9-$20.

Co Do's menu includes a very diverse range of traditional Vietnamese dishes, but it would probably be better that you don't waver too far from the specials or even better too far from the first dish on the menu; Bun Bo Hue. Although the broth of this slightly spicy rice vermicelli soup lacks the distinct lemongrass aroma traditionally found, it is still pleasant to eat. Unfortunately, the other dishes don't fare so well. Co Do's Bun Rieu, a similar dish to Bun Bo Hue but with a more a tomato based broth, is lacklustre with a dull broth accompanied by an odd tasting egg sausage and vermicelli that has been cooked but

Great pho!. I've had the rare beef pho and also vegetarian in chicken broth. always so tasty! highly recommend.

Bad attitude. The manager there (I assume, since he acted liked he was the manager) has a really bad attitude and very abrupt and disrespectful. We tried to describe what we wanted to order and he told us that they didn't have it, but then I found it in the menu - he then abruptly said that I didn't know what I was describing. Most Vietnamese places are all smiles and courtesy, but somehow he is the exception. I've been here twice and twice he was exactly the same. My friends felt quite awkward and we vowed never to return again. The food was not great either - the seafood pancake, done very well in most of the other Vietnamese restaurants along the stretch, was very doughy, lacked taste, and didn't have a lot of seafood either. My recommendation is that if you want to avoid bad attitude and sub-standard food quality go elsewhere.
Tracy Hancock
Tasteless and Gluggy!. This would have to be the worst Vietnamese food I have ever eaten! Spring rolls lack any discernable filling, sliced beef is chewy and tasteless and the duck covered with a thick batter and overly sweet sauce. There has to be better options available!
Lauren Rizzi
Their phô is far superior to phô dzung (cow and chicken) and their bun Bo hue soup is delicious. Also try their Bo la lop (beef wrapped in bettle leaf). Super tasty
Food For Life
Best bbh in victoria street thats for sure
Not the best service but the food makes up for it

The Bon Bo Hue with generous serves of Vietnamese salads is unbeatable!!!
Liz
Terrible. Got bad gastro from the food. Msg flavour hit. Won't be going back for sure.
Mowie
Dirt cheap but chewy meat and weird sauce. So not Vietnamese. Beef and black bean and lemon chicken on menu indicate old Aussie 80s throwbacks not fresh Vietnamese food. Keep walking there's lots of other options.

Horrible!!. Ordered spring rolls (entree) and salt & pepper squid & rice vermicelli with shredded pork & Spring rolls. Everything arrived at once on a tiny table for 2, on which 1/3 was already taken up by condiments, silverware & chopsticks. Spring rolls were nice (hard to muck those up), squid was a little oily, but ok. But the vermicelli dish was diabolical, all added up with a couple of tables where there were screaming toddlers. Admittedly the place was almost full, and we were the only Caucasians, but really?? We are on a mission to find best Vietnamese Restaurant on Victoria Street - Co Do - Never again! Try Ha Long Bay or Thang Na Nine.
Kodi
Ok so I have a favourite pho place in Richmond but my partner in crime often insists that we try something new so that is how we ended up at Co Do. I must say the food was very nice and prices were standard for the area despite the $$ on Urbanspoon. Good selection of items on the menu. Pho was delicious but given the area, you are very spoilt for choice! Although I still remain loyal to my favourite place I can say that Co Do is also very good.
BigFatFoodie
This is my second favourite place to eat on Victoria st after ninh kieu/little Saigon. Always reliable food and always tasty. Never too salty. Bun no huei is not as good as ninh kieu but better than any other I've had anywhere else. Be warned, if can get VERY cosy in here on a busy day.
Food_lover
For good authentic Vietnamese food, you can't go past this place. The soups are really tasty and the pork and prawn cake in banana leaf is especially well done. For something unusual, try the chef's special of steamed oyster with ginger and shallots which is not Vietnamese at all but tastes great.
Puzzlesbar
Very nice restaurant. We had phos and a rice with vegetables dish for less than 10$ per dish, everything was delicious Vietnamese food. The waiters were nice and the restaurant itself was appealing. It is worth going there.
EatToLive
Co Do is my one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne. I love the prawn spring rolls, duck noodle soup, and stir fry gai lan w oyster sauce. Service is good too, lovely waiting staffs I must mention. The resraueant is full on Monday night. That indicates some good things about Co Do. Highly recommemded.
Luan
Bun bo hue could be consider as one of the best noodle in australia. Agree? The waiter is excellent.
Hu S Phm
Beautiful food!

Crap. Fatty duck, no personality, waited ten minutes for the bill. Don't bother!!
The Servants Kitchen
Victoria St Richmond is on my doorstep so I have eaten at most of them many times - and almost always, am eating alone ( with just my appetite, notebook, iPhone and thoughts )...
I'd only give CoDo an average rating for Pho Bo based on being really stingy with their tough as dog bone rare beef. The soup is pretty tasty, with satisfying notes, but it does lack the aromatic subtleties I associate with my favourites. Oh really, I have tried ordering other things, but the guy that serves tells me I order too much for me and just brings me soup.
The service does let this place down - and it wouldn't be in my top ten voices for this strip. $10 for coke and small soup is good, but it's standard price for this level of fare and service.

Little Gem. First thing as i'm side swiping my head with a limber nod and smile is, 'not bad, not bad at all'.

The Cambodian soup, delicious. Hugley clean and lovely. The food is cheap here. And quite tasty. Typical Vic St decor, nice and busy, lovely staff, and the menu is actually really interesting instead of your same same predictions. I quite-a-lika x

Great food!. This place has great food and good service, food comes out quickly and is very cheap, not westernized like other Vietnamese restaurants. They have the best bun bo hue and banh xeo on Victoria Street in my opinion. It is always busy so best to go for an early dinner or for lunch if you want to avoid the crowds. Highly recommended.
J
Big Vietnamese pancakes! Not my favourite but most tables in the restaurant were ordering the pancake! The beef pho is super tasty but the Vietnamese prawn spring rolls were a bit bland. Very busy restaurant but the service was prompt and friendly.
Prahalad Kothwal
Great food !. Banh xeo , lemon grass chicken, chicken satay were awesome !!
Emily From St Kilda
Don't order the Chinese dishes! Stick with Vietnamese. Is BYO wine & beer. Viet Pancakes were amazing, Chinese dishes were unfortunately gelatinous and pretty tasteless.
ADW
Delicious and filling. Big serves, chili and lemongrass chicken and the ginger and shallot pork both great, spring rolls nice and crispy, highly recommended for a quick, informal but tasty meal.
Brillat_Savarin
Best BBH on Vic. St.
Hula Jarmusch
Amazing sliced beef pho, pretty much perfect. Co Do has to be one of the best bowls on Victoria St
Nina
Delicious banh xeo! Was the best i've had. Went perfectly with the fresh lettuce, mint and nuoc cham sauce. Pho was quite nice too! Will definitely return to fix my banh xeo cravings.

Best viet place to eat. Best serve of banh canh cua i have ever had. always on point!

Orders come quickly, food is excellent for its price. Love the Hu Tieu (translucent rice noodles) w Prawn and Pork and their Fried Spring Rolls. (they come in prawn, pork or veg)
Occasional moody wait staff, but if not, love this place!

Great bun bo hue. But the small is really pretty small. Try the durian shake.

Yummy bo pho!!!

Our waiter was sooo miserable.

I know this is cheap Vietnamese, not a 3 hat restaurant but seriously? Worst service! Not going to bother here again especially so many other choices along Victoria st.

Everything great here!. Went here based on the reviews and was definitely not disappointed. Spring rolls were great, love the big plate of fresh greens, pho was all beautiful no corkage is a real bonus. Service was good staff friendly Tuesday night very busy imagine it hard to get into on weekends. Parking in Victoria street always a challenge but really enjoyed this place will go back absolutely.

Pho life. Best pho experience on Victoria St. While I Love Pho is a more consistent pho, the whole experience is better at Co Do. Best staff, best decor... Co Do is for lovers.

Best Vietnamese Restaurant!!. My family and I have been coming for years! Their noodles are always perfect, and their drinks are always fresh. Try the salt and pepper squid; the best I've ever had!

Woke up with a severe case of pho cravings and stumbled upon this place by pure chance - we were NOT disappointed! We were waited on straight away and Our steaming bowls of pho were out within ten minutes, followed by our Vietnamese pancake to share (which was enormous!) - served with crisp, fresh lettuce, mint and basil leaves, it was absolutely heavenly. This place instantly shot its way up into my top 5 fave Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne!

God damn I found a fly in the blow of soup today

This place is a staple!. We go to this place almost once a week! The food is so good and cheap! If you don't feel like cooking at home this is the place to come! Try their egg noodle soup, the rice vermicelli with spring rolls or the broken rice! Yum Yum Yum!

Best Vietnamese Broken Rice. You don't go there for service. You go there because they're consistent with the quality of their food. And it's fast too! Best broken rice on Victoria St in my opinion. Their vegetarian crispy noodles dish is a favourite of my partner. Definitely must try this place.

Service was a let down, recieving one of two entrees whilst half way through the main, considering how long the entree took to arrive one would presume it would be perfect.....not to be, beef satay skewers dry as a hand full of saw dust and blacker than an ace of spades...I have enjoyed some of the finest Vietnamese both abroad and along Victoria st and this was an absolute let down to say the least

Actual Vietnamese. One of the places on Victoria St that actually serves up some Viet specialties rather than tons of Chinese influenced dishes. The Banh Xeo is awesome, its a large thin Saigon style pancake, rather than the smaller Hue version. We tried to order one each but the waiter advised to share 2 between 3 and it was very filling. Finally BYOB with zero corkage, great for craft beer geeks like me who are sick of terrible beer lists when eating out.

To do: Co Do. We come here often for our staples: bun bo hue & rice vermicelli. Good food. Cheap price. Quick-no-fuss service.

Hmmm - over the past couple of months, the bun bo hue isn't as good as it use to be.

Delicious and FUN!. Went in a group for a fun, chilled out dinner - had a great time!

We ordered chili beef, Pho, lemongrass beef and the Vietnamese pancake. All were great but the pancake was bloody amazing - full of pork and prawns with oodles of flavor and perfectly cooked beansprouts. If you're going I guarantee you'd enjoy it - the best I've had on Victoria St. Make sure you wrap the pancake and fillings in lettuce and then dip in the sauce, tastes like heaven!

With no BYOB charge I think it was about 10 dollars a head and we were stuffed!!!

DISGUSTING!!. I walked past this restaurant a week ago, having heard highly about it. i decided to give it a go. The broken rice was gooey, the egg on it was raw when i asked for it cooked. The char hor fan i oredered looked and smelt divine, but when i tasted it, it was extremely salty and tasted like it had a LOT of MSG. Nothing special, the waiters seemed uninterested and whenever we asked a question, the would just let out a grunting sound and point. alf the time they were to busy texting or whatever on their iphones.
never coming back, i had a proper lunch after wards and bought myself a salad roll which was 10 times better and only cost me 3.20.

Codo is a fantastic Victoria Street restaurant. We shared prawn spring rolls, which were thin yet prawny. Chicken satay was really tasty, and the banh xeo, Vietnamese pancake, was giant, and filled with bean shoots and prawns. I loved the fresh chillies on the table, and the service was lovely.

I don't know what Co Do means. But I'm sure it describes that buzz you feel when people are doing things right and effortlessly. It is the standout Vietnamese restaurant in that famous strip of Richmond and it beggars belief that others are not imitating it or trying to capture that buzz. For the pedants reading, Cờ Đỏ is a place on the Mekong river. Nevertheless, my mistranslation still stands.

Not quite.. I've been here twice in the past 2 weeks and i would have to admit that the food here is quite ok.

during the first visit on a saturday night, the restaurant was jam packed and bustling the whole time. i had bun bo hue and shared a banh xeo with some friends. the bun bo hue was surprisingly so diluted that it only had a hint of spiciness and lacked other crucial flavours in making this dish a winner. the oversized banh xeo had lost much of its crispness before it had landed on the table. the flavours were there but the fillings appeared to be unequally distributed. the vietnamese ice coffee is possibly the best i've ever had in Melbourne.

upon the second visit, i had bun rieu and was deeply disappointed. the bowl was simply covered with an extreme layer of unnecessary oil, lacked the floating bits of mince pork and crab shells and the soup simply lacked a depth of flavour, possibly due to the overpowering of the oil. the portion was generous though.

would be back to give Co Do another chance on its pho, or else it'll just be a direct trip only for its amazing coffee.

All meals were average!!! I won't be going back. Normally I like to finish my food, tonight I left room for desert somewhere else on the way home.

Still the best beef combination Pho especially that slice of pepper sausage!

Best Bun Bo Hue around !. I've only come here for Bun Bo Hue...it's their specialty... can't find any other place in Melbourne which has a diverse menu for it, definately the best place in Melbourne for Bun Bo Hue! spicy soup noodles :)

Simply Delicious. My sister is a frequent diner at Co Do and we went there for my Mum's birthday. Matt Preston is a regular so I thought why not! We went for lunch and OMG the food was divine! To add it was full and most were Asian, which saids a lot. I LOVED it. To add I am not Asian and the staff were so friendly. Each time we asked what a dish was that we saw passing us they were more than happy to tell us. Just a PERFECT place.

Spicy Beef Pho is the best on the street - period

Best value meal in melbourne. great fresh ingredients and beautiful flavours. its best to focus on the food and not the decor. mostly rude wait staff is part of the experience

What Ed said... Basically, what Ed Wong said below is spot on. Come for the food, because quite frankly the service sucks. The staff seemed like they were annoyed to be there. The broth in the pho and and the crispy chicken with fried rice may be the best in town.

Bun Bo Hue. I liked the bun bo hue (chilli beef noodle soup) here, not as good as my mum's, but still pretty good! ;)

Went to Co Do last night with friends. Co Do is pretty much what you'd expect when dining in Victoria St Richmond, ie crowded n busy, but the food is exceptionally good. The stand out dish for me was the salt n pepper calamari......outstanding, and all this for around $25 ph with BYO wine.

Hands down the best pancake and pho on Victoria street. Wonton soup is awesome and the seafood congee was amazing.

Such great comfort food in winter. Don't know what my Nan did for comfort food in winter but I reckon nothing beats a bowl of hot bowl of Beef Pho. Why do they pronounce it as Bib Pho. Whatever it is, its gold.

Unimpressed. Pho thin and missing the beefy, spicy goodness. Not many Vietnamese eating here either ...

Loved it!. Having recently returned from Vietnam, I was desperate for some of the amazing, authentic food I had over there. Co Do is the closest I have found yet. The Pho was as good as any place in Melbourne, the noodles in particular fresh and tasty and the meat very tender and a good amount of it. I was also extremely excited to find they had Bun Bo on their menu- fresh vermicilli with braised beef, onion, cucumber and fresh herbs in a sweet sauce. It was not as good as the real stuff in Vietnam, but very close. Definitely worth trying, I will definitely be going back...

Excellent. A great no frills all thrills place for authentic vietnamese Pho

Beef pho. After trying several pho restaurants along victoria street I still find myself going back to this place.. Although the stock can vary I find it is usually the best. Beef/Meat is ALWAYS the best at co do.

One of the best vietnamese ever tasted. I have been going to this restaurant for just over a year now. The food at codo is one of the best vietnamese that I've ever tasted in Melbourne. They really made me feel like going to visit Vietnam really soon.

Excellent beef chilli soup and friendly staff, the Soup side salad is Awesome with lemon and sea salt, try it!
Ed
The chilli beef soup at Co Do would be the best Vietnamese noodle soup I've had between Melbourne and Sydney. The soup has just the right amount of zing so those who aren't fans of spice have nothing to fear. The slivers of beef and pork are generous for a dish that's under $10. Don't be put off by the square of curdled blood - it has barely any flavour and resembles jelly. While Co Do is decked out simply and service can be threadbare, the food is the true star and worth coming for.

Have the quail!. A visit to Co Do for an easy girls catch up - and it was just that. On a friday night, the restaurant was nicely full - there was hussle and bussle without it being total chaos!

We ordered the roast quail on another reviewer's recommendation and it was really delicious. In fact, after the entree, one of my friends ordered it again as her main! We had the vegetarian spring rolls which were great - light, crispy and hot without being greasy.

I had the rare beef pho. It was good but doesn't get the same rave as the quail.

The restaurant is BYO for wine and beer so that helps keep the price down too!

Of course, Co Do isn’t all about the BBH. Apparently their Vietnamese pancakes are worth making the trek to Richmond for which is what I’ll be sampling next time I’m here.

A catch up with gorgeous bestie led us to the inner city equivalent of Springvale, where she took me to her fav restaurant for pho. When it comes to good tasty pho, I have the assumption it can only be found in the scungiest of places (I am imagining a wh

I think it might be because I'm Asian. Or it might be that I lived in Sai Gon for a year. I'm not sure which is more to blame, really, but I always seem to get asked for recommendations for Vietnamese restaurants. Especially for restaurants along Victoria

It’s definitely worthy of a repeat visit and the menu is huge, containing many non-pho options. At around $10 a bowl, it’s not going to break the bank either. Thanks to all who made it to this round of pho club and stay tuned for the next one. Just make s

I have been to Co Do once before and was reluctant to go again, not because the food or service was no good, but because I have this misguided notion that I should try every restaurant on Victoria St. at least once so I shouldn’t go back on the one that I

Best Vietnamese Melbourne has to offer without a doubt. Not only is the food extremely tasty but there is consistency.

Like many of the restaurants on Victoria St, Richmond; they have classic 70s décor. Co Do did have freshly painted, vibrant walls, which made the place feel a little less 70s than the usual. However, mirrored walls were still a prominent feature. Not to me
