Wow! What a great little place! We couldn't decide what to have from the extensive menu so we went with an 8 course banquet option, every single dish was absolutely delicious! The drinks list read really well with a good mix of local & imported beer and wine but we decided on a couple of their signature cocktails, amazing! AND they have a great sake list. The service was friendly, efficient and on point with the timing. Can't wait to go back again soon!
Probably the best dumplings we have ever had and we've had a few. All 5 of us lived them and the veggie ones were truly sensational. We thought this place was a risk but it turned out really well. Service was good but slowness out of the kitchen was poor. We could see them doing other things than preparing food and it wasn't busy. This was annoying as it took forever. I'd still go back but be prepared to wait. Dumplings are worth it
Steam gives us an excuse to come back to Rye asap! We absolutely loved every dish we had and wow, they all packed such a punch with incredible flavours, aromas and textures.
We can’t recommend this incredible restaurant enough to anyone who loves a bit of this and a bit of that. There is no dish on this menu that will disappoint trust is, we tried half the menu!
Thank you to the staff for being so lovely and welcoming too, everything about the restaurant is awesome! Can’t wait to come back again and eat those delicious sweet corn and coriander fritters (they were out of this world)

I was at steam on a Sunday night and it was very busy. Despite that the staff where friendly and the food was fantastic. Was more than happy to wait as it was busier than expected but the food was definitely worth every minute. Definitely worth the drive
Great service, atmosphere, and of course great food! PS, ask if you can get the dinner menu if you're eating there for lunch, more variety and more delicious!
We had a perfect ladies lunch at Steam! Had their weekend Yum Cha banquet which was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable too! I highly recommend Steam if your in the Rye area for lunch!

The food was delicious and the highlight of the experience. Standout dishes were the peppery chicken wings, edamame beans, and the betel leaves which were amazing. The wine list was fairly brief and quite restricted by the glass, although cocktails and sake offerings were more extensive if that’s your thing. The service was frustrating as the wait staff were understaffed and although they did their best, there were some lengthy wait times (for example it was 15 mins from when we arrived until we were even given a food menu). This was particularly annoying given that customers who pre-book are only offered two seating times (6/6.15 or 8/8.15) therefore requiring customers to all come in a fixed window and then be unable to serve them in a timely manner.
The staff were friendly and competent, and once the food finally did arrive it was well paced so the dishes didn’t all arrive at once (the table was pretty tiny but they were careful not to overcrowd it) nor were we left waiting. I would be happy to go here again but be prepared to take your time.
Terrific modern Asian restaurant in Rye central. We’d had a recommendation to go here and it was sound advice. The food’s good, there’s a tidy wine list, it’s a nice setting, the restaurant is reasonably priced and we had lovely service. You can’t ask much more of any place. We had a mighty time. We had a range of dishes that we enjoyed thoroughly. it’s slowly coming back to me. My favourite was the beef and the greens. The calamari was good, the dumplings tasty too. The barramundi was very respectable as well. The wines were good n’all. Service was lovely as well. Our strategic mistake was to test the Japanese whiskies at the end of the night. Great range, great flavour. Not without impact though. It’s a fun restaurant. Highly recommended. 😍
We spent in Mornington 2 days,first day we got very unlucky with a food,for our second day of stay we decided to try something based on the zomato rating and distance from the place we stay. We came to Steam around 6 pm for a dinner,booked in advance. We decided not to go for a Set menu and choose different dishes from the menu. Our entree were Blue crab and Pork-both delicious!! For main dishes we picked Fried rice, Curry and Burramundi Fillet. There is nothing we could comment or be unhappy with! Three of us loved the food, serve was good as well,beautiful flavours and sauces for dishes.

Honestly I don’t know why people are commenting negative, we definitely didn’t notice anything that people listed earlier,considering the fact that we came from Melbourne and we are super picky about food and the quality.
I would recommend the place without a doubt.
Steam is an excellent place to get awesome service and delicious food. My partner and I couldn't have asked for anything better. We had the 9 course dinner with some cocktails. Thanks to the staff at steam for making our trip 5 stars!
Amazing. I wasn't expecting such amazing Asian fusion on the water like this. The banquet options are amazing for a sampling of everything from oysters and sashimi to pork belly and beef medallion. Attentive staff and nice atmosphere. Would return.
My partner and I had the vegan banquet option. An amazing assortment of vegan Asian fusion cuisine, delicious at every step, and great value for money. We were both stuffed by the end, and an amazing refreshing tapioca dessert as a finisher. Would recommend to anyone wanting a fine meal in the area. Further, the staff were under the pump, being short staffed, but all maintained a friendly and most professional demeanour. Thanks so much!
It was our first time here and it was a truly splendid experience. We tried The Showcase - a nine course banquet. Each course was presented beautifully and prepared/cooked to perfection. The sauces accompanying the various dishes were delicious, although a word of warning - a few were extremely salty. Dietary requirements are apparently catered for, but I'm not sure if that would include adjusting the flavour profile of a dish as such. Don't get me wrong - the flavours were phenomenal, so no complaints from me, but one person in our party found that aspect a little challenging. We had some delicious cocktails before dinner, however we didn't have any wine with our meal. Wines can be matched with each dish, so I'm keen to come back one of these days to enjoy the full gastronomic experience.

We were celebrating a special occasion for two other couples. Steam was the perfect restaurant, the service was fast, efficient and friendly. The nine course set menu had something for everyone, with the courses being well explained and served with enough time between each. Drinks were supplied quickly with regular top-ups as was water. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant. The service is unmatched. All of the waitresses were so friendly and kind. Megan was extremely attentive and welcoming. The staff truly cares about your experience. So inviting and warm. The food is absolutely amazing – everything I tasted melted in my mouth. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The chef is fantastic. Absolutely the best meal I have had in a while. Highly recommend.
