My hubby and I enjoyed a candlelit dinner here last night. The atmosphere was lovely and the food absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the shared tasting plate which was huge and had everything from grilled artichokes, prosciutto to smoked almonds and the serving was generous. For mains, the steak and the salmon were cooked perfectly as were the sides. The service was friendly, Loved it and we’ll definitely be back :)

A really great menu for all times of the day along with some of the best coffee in the hills. The house and surrounding gardens are beautiful and it’s well worth taking the time to explore. Service is really good and very friendly.

Love the serenity at this place. Food is delicious especially the buttermilk fried chicken. Food takes time to come out, which makes it taste this good and fresh. So better not come when you are in a hurry.

Pretty decent food and a lovely outdoor dining area (in their garden amongst the trees of Mt Dandenong).  Service was prompt and friendly.  Some wasps outside marred an otherwise lovely lunch, but apparently that's a problem all over the Mountain this year.

On most days, you'll see a smiling man all decked out in medieval livery waving to passing traffic right outside King Henry Arts Cafe in Sassafras.  I've spotted him several times as I whizzed past in my car - each time thinking that I must check it out. Despite the kitschiness of it being a themed cafe, King Henry Arts Cafe is a very nice spot for a meal and a wander. The cafe is set in this large property. There's a gorgeous sun-dappled deck that we sat at for our mid-morning snack. Inside, the rooms are beautifully decorated with plenty of seating.
For the food, I was impressed that the quality of the ingredients are a definite notch or two above what you'd get from some of the cafes in Mt Dandenong. Dr Marty's crumpets certainly hit the spot for us.

Went today for lunch , we drove pass by this restaurant many time and finally get a chance paid a visit today . Turns out I think came here about 10years ago . There's lovely ferntree trial that you can have a walk after the meal . The pancake was lovely . Hubby had a special hot chocolate . We were wondering what that's is , it was such a surprise and we love it very much 😁 if you wanna try something different , we recommend it 😁

On a recent trip to Melbourne, hubby and I dropped in at King Henry’s to have a bite of lunch. Who could resist the Yeoman of the Guard waving at the cars driving by? Not us. The café is in a lovely old house in the Dandenongs, sitting in a garden of greenery, with a calming water feature tinkling away. On a 41C day, it was very appealing. It was also a day with total fire ban in place so there weren’t many people about.

Hubby chose vegetable fritters while I had the pie of the day ($24) which was chicken and leek. The pie was actually a pot pie i.e. no pastry on the bottom. I do prefer my pies with a bottom, but this was very tasty anyway. The filling was a bit too dry for me, (I would have liked it a bit more saucy) and would have been fine as a real pie. The chicken was chunks of breast meat, and the pastry on top was golden and flaky. Delicious! It came with smashed peas, fries and garden greens. The chips were chunky and rustic and well-seasoned. You don’t tend to see a lot of smashed peas up our way, but these were fine, with a touch of mint.

Hub’s fritters were cauliflower with added wood smoked salmon ($26). The salmon was moist and lightly smoked; probably the best we have ever tasted. The fritters had a hint of cumin which gave it a warm, spicy flavour. Hub was very happy with these.

My cappuccino ($4) was fine if a bit weak, and the hub’s milkshake ($6) was not as good as he had expected. He insists on it being very, very cold, but this was not. And it also didn’t have enough (any?) ice cream. Service was fine; not overly friendly but adequate (tho I did have to ask about my coffee.)

We noticed that the burgers came out on wooden boards - so not our fave thing. Hopefully this is a dying trend. All up, a pleasant if not overwhelming lunch in a beautiful part of Victoria.

Such a beautiful setting for lunch or coffee. The staff are friendly and attentive. They have made it properly kid friendly with the best kids menu I've seen in the hills to date.

Well if it wasn't for the young man dressed as a beef eater out the front waving I would have kept driving however seeing the weather was lovely and we were undecided I thought why not and did a 'u' turn. So pleased we did. New owners and I must say they are doing a great job.

The outside is fantastic with established beautiful gardens with a chess set on the lawns while the inside of the house is just divine think a really classy function - maybe a wedding venue well worth a visit just for the interior.

Now the food - small menu but great quality food and not your standard 'smashed avo' etc etc breakfast standard menu thank goodness plus the lunch menu looks good as well.

Coffee excellent and my tea - YAY TEA LEAVES IN A POT, that itself is a big plus.

Couldn't fault the service or the wait staff and the owner checked to see we were ok. We had breakfast on the deck over looking beautiful gardens.

They are apparently sponsored/supplied by Roachford wines and also have a small gallery and books and candles for sale.

All very proper and inviting.

So please don't drive past like we almost did, plus there is parking unlike trying to park at Sassafras. I wish them well and we are going to return for lunch soon.
