Having attended this centre on numerous occasions now, it's hands down the best and most economical destination for all your fresh produce needs. Not to mention fresh asian cuisine from all across the continent.
If you come down anytime during the weekend expect to be shoulder to shoulder with the locals who are all there with same goal. Shop on an empty stomach and sample the local traders delights, great experience for all involved.
Vietnamese area in Melbourne. Full of delicious food with affordable price. Coming on a windy day so easily find a parking spot than usual.
Springvale Shopping Centre at Springvale
Visit Update on 13/5/2021
It was cold when we arrived, but then the sun decided to get up to warm the atmosphere. Probably today is a weekday, and tberefore the shopping centre is not packed.
Hardly anyone wears a mask, but I still do. It is compulsory to do so. U fortunately, no one really observe social distancing, and eateries don't enforce scan ing of QR code.
Many fruits are in season now - persimmon, soursop, avocado, apple, etc. The mandarin is not that good. It looks more like a cross of orange and mandarin.
There is not true that the crayfish price has tumbled. At $85-$99 per kg, I prefer to eat the extra large prawn at $35-$40 per kg. We normally buy ox cheek meat, but today is an exception; we buy it with the "skin" or membrane on.
Some shops are still closed, and the eateries not busy.
Do not expect any up market shops or outlets here. Many businesses are small, owned or operated by Vietnamese or Chinese. This place is great for green groceries, frozen seafood, and meat. It is OK for fish, and a quick meal.

Just before Chinese New Year, the streets outside of the Springvale Shopping Centre is ghostly quiet.
Inside the centre, only some shops are relatively busy. It is nice that I can enjoy a bit of Chinese New Year atmosphere with some shops putting up lanterns and decorative items.
I am very impressed that the Springvale Shopping Centre atrium and the vertical edges separating the ground and first floor are painted pillar box red, just right for the occasron.
Springvale Shopping precinct is large, caters mainly for the Asians / Chinese. They are many dry goods groceries, fruit and vegetable groceries, seafood retailers, mixed business, variety stores, and restaurants and food courts.
It is a great day out, and fantastic experience.
