Wish I had found this place at the beginning of my trip sadly just popped in before heading to the airport. Still some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had and the bloody marry was 10/10.
Stopped for a drink and quick bite. The Bartender and the other staff was amazing. Nice and friendly and very helpful. Riho the bartender made us splendid cocktails. Food was absolutely awesome as well. If you are in st kilda this place is a must visit.
The most delicious Mexican food at a really fun and funky restaurant. The staff are fun and engaging and more than happy to offer up suggestions from the menu. We went for a family dinner, and enjoyed a large array of dishes.
The food arrived promptly, and everything was fresh and full of flavour. The corn chips were crunchy abd the salsa was zingy and punchy. Quesadilles, tacos and burritos were delightful, with tender pulled beef and chicken, loads of cheese, guac and sour cream. The star was definitely the crispy pork belly. Melt in the mouth pork with perfect salty crackling made for an incredibly enjoyable dish.
The vibe is bustling and energetic, and a great wine and cocktail list helps to get the party started. In the sunny suburb of St Kilda, Radio Mexico is a fab venue for simple Mexican flavours, great drinks and a cool atmosphere. We will be back when they are able to re open for dining in.
We went here during the weird Covid times, so I’m sure it’s usually a LOT busier than we saw. However, we still had to make a booking.
There are plenty of vegetarian options and our choices were the following:
*tofu taco
*mushroom taco
*cactus quesadilla
*bbq corn
*rojo chilaquiles
*caramel pecan tart
*house lemonade
The service was on point! And the food came out quicker than we could eat! The only tiny negative was that I ordered a mocktail (preggo!) and got the cocktail. Lucky, I could taste the alcohol in the first sip and didn’t drink anymore! However, the bartender did knock a few bucks off the bill 😊
Would HIGHLY recommend and will definitely go back!!
Love this restaurant, staff are always so attentive and helpful get the pork belly!!!!! Absolutely mouth watering
fav tacos in melbourne. baja, prawn, pork belly tacos are winners. topped with a glass of the spiced tomato juice (think amazing virgin bloody mary)
3.5/5 - Great atmosphere and the foods taste amazing, loved the guac and chips. However like all other bars around the area, the serving sizes are quite delicate. The cocktail selection was good, and there are interesting ones to try (e.g. the chili margarita and the popcorn margarita). Overall satisfying, just wish the meals are bigger!
Loved the margaritas, prawn tacos and service!
Almost felt like I was in Mexico...
but it was raining and I was in St Kilda...
Quite a busy eatery, with friendly and attentive service.
*Pescado de la Casa – firm grilled rockling, the pickled cabbage gave each bite an edge. Very tasty.
*Sopa de Tortilla – great flavours with tomato and chicken broth, with the tortilla giving a bit of texture. Little on the salty side though.
*Michelada – give your beer a twist, it’s a little like a bloody mary.
The BEST mexican food I’ve ever had!
FOOD: I got the Scallop taco and I may not be a mexican food connoisseur, I definitely am a scallop one and this scallop was cooked to absolute perfection! I was feeling peckish and I wasn’t starving so I thought that I wanted to give their food a little test because I’ve seen nothing but raves on their food and I definitely can see where they’re coming from! The scallops were cooked beautifully and the PORK CRACKLING omigosh was so flavourful and crispy which went amazingly with the soft scallops and the pickled cabbage went great with the habanero cream and it was ACTUALLY SPICY!!!
SERVICE: Friendly and lovely service!
Radio Mexico is definitely a place that lives up to their great reviews and judging by their 1000+ reviews, it’s safe to say my mexican cravings were in good place!
Walking in, the lights were dimmed and atmosphere was lovely yet cosy. We were fortunate enough to be seated in a secluded corner facing the street and were able to enjoy the cool night air.
We started off our meal with some delicious drinks: their homemade lemonade and Bloody Mary (just a tad salty but definitely packed a kick). For entree, we ordered Sopa de Tortilla (a chilli and chicken based broth with crispy tortilla bits), guacamole and pickled vegetables. Guac is a mexican staple and the pickled vegetables were a lovely accompaniment for the rest of our meal. We would definitely recommend you try them. The soup however was a tad too heavy on the salt and didn’t meet our expectations.
That night we had a craving for tacos so naturally we had to try as many as we could. We ordered the bbq pork, rockling, prawns and scallops. The rockling was soft and flavourful, the scallops were perfectly cooked -sweet with a beautifully caramelised crust and bbq pork tacos are always a winner. The unexpected hero was the prawn taco. The prawns were sweet and succulent with a hint of smokiness. Overall the tacos were nice, a few stand outs but nothing mind blowing.
For dessert we opted for the chocolate mousse -a dark chocolate lover’s dream! The mouse was smooth and rich with just the right amount of bitterness to offset the subtle sweetness. On top was a layer of grapefruit jelly, which provided a tartness we didn’t realise the dish needed. It was the perfect way to end our meal.
We can’t say whether or not the food is authentic but we can definitely guarantee a good eat!
Overall: 3.5 (4 if not for everything being a tad too salty for our tastes)
A&R
I love Radio Mexico, I’ve been there twice and firmly believe it is the best Mexican food in Melbourne. When I was in the US I was fortunate to eat good Mexican food and it made me sad that this is not available in Melbourne. I always get the baja and frijoles tacos - they are so good! The Tortilla chips with salsa are also amazing.
The service staff are a bit chatty for my liking, but the other patrons seemed to enjoy it. It’s squishy like many other places, but the food makes it worth it.
