Review Boucla - Subiaco

Amy K
Really nice atmosphere inside. Turkish style breakfast I think which isn’t my favorite but still interesting. Only breakfast menu on Sundays though and the cake selection was limited. If I go again I’ll just grab a drink and some snacks.

Their soufra was SO GOOD! An absolute pleasure to eat, flaky, and not too sweet. Just a slight complaint about the tiny serve of chorizo as an add on for $6. But otherwise, delicious food in a beautiful little place!
Elisa Daniela
Really love this place! Even though I didn't take pics of the desserts, you must try the filo custard slice - it's gorgeous! The souvlaki and moussaka are delish.

Beautiful European café with creative dishes and traditional ambience. Food is delicious with portions on the conservative side. Coffee is excellent — on the Left(field) side 👌. Service is ok but a bit slow – Boucla gets busy (popular) and a bit crammed. Definitely, well worth a visit - or two ...

Love the decor, reminds me of trips to Greece. Pastries and coffee were nice. My daughters chose this coffee shop as they knew it would appeal to me.

Came here for a birthday, what a lovely start to the day, the staff are so lovely and attentive. Perfect service, cake and coffee!

This is my new favorite place and I am specifically addicted to their Sofra cake( I don’t know how to spell it). It is soooooooo good. The almond cookie (crescent) is the best. In short I just love all their desert menu. Their food, coffee and ambiance are nice too. The staff are friendly. Basically, a must go-to cafe!

Such a surprisingly different menu that takes brunch on a Sunday to a great place. Staff were excellent and the food and coffees equally as good. Highly recommended.

*Rating is a 3.5*
I have a soft spot for Boucla, mainly because I'm a bit in love with the eclectic Moroccan decor and interior of this small cafe. A lot of small tables squashed into an even smaller area but the intimate atmosphere is lovely. Coffee here is very good & the chocolate and ricotta cake is a must try, as is the souffra (or any of their cakes/slices really). Breakfast menu is a bit unexciting & hasn’t been that great from past vists - the usual fare of granola and egg dishes, but it’s available until 2pm on the weekend which is a bonus. Not a fan of pre-made food like the frittatas, bagels and salads that are on display in their fridge cabinet so can't comment on these. Menu is a little limited and as such I normally come here for a coffee or chai, a yummy slice of cake/dessert and a good catchup with my girlfriends.

Tried the beef brisket sandwich... Phenomenal. The tzatziki my partner tried... Phenomenal... Mind blown.

This place does deserve a 3.5, but it wasnt quite a 4 for me. The interior was pretty amazing, although it was very packed. we opted for the outside seeting which was quite chilly, although they did provide soft blankets to rug up in (thank you!!). The brioche egg bun wasnt too bad, but it was a bit too saucy. Coffee not bad, not amazing either.
Red Bean
Fabulous scrambled eggs, chocolate ricotta cake (they run out so get in early!) and of course shakshouka - but that’s where the 4 instead of 5 comes from. What’s up with potatoes in shakshouka? They used to do it differently and have even changed the kind of bread it is served with. Still a winner, don’t get me wrong, but I will never forget the shakshouka of old. It was pure gold. Friendly service and they are very good at what they do. Space inside is tight and super cosy.

Best scrambled eggs we’ve ever had! Turmeric latte was very nice (hard to find) and will be back. Photos are a bit dark due to lighting but it’s a lovely place to eat in person, nice ambiance
Kim Grey
Awesome cake. Great coffee. Amazing breakfasts. Try the Turkish eggs! Love the shakshuka too.
Greek baklava is the best in Perth.
Try it. Best cosy café in Perth.

I keep trying to give this place a chance... I really like the concept. Every time I go (against my better judgement), I'm treated to some of the most obnoxious staff I have ever encountered. The food and coffee no longer compete with the ever increasing competition just down the road...and is certainly not worth encountering the attitude.

Still in business, so the select few clientele within the inner sanctum of the 'Boucla crew' appear to suffice to keep this joint's tills ticking over.

My cash won't ever be entering their tills again...

Great location for a weekend breakfast outing. Good food and good coffee. I liked it and will be back. Pulled pork and poached eggs was especially tasty!

Love love love their filo and custard tart, it’s amazing and I’m craving for more! Their mocha was also really nice, and they have great coffee. Their matcha latte is a little milky though, and can taste some cinnamon.
I forgot what exactly we got, but the one with bacon/pork bits was SO good. The shakshouka was ok.

This place is also so aesthetic, a very cosy cute place to hang out! And lovely staff. Definitely recommend this place for a relaxing coffee and cake and brunch! 🙌🏼

Went to this place few months ago actually. Only now had the time to review it Loved the place. And the coffee was quite good. We ordered the salmon bagel and the other one which j cant remember. The bagel was amazing but i remember my husband complaining about the soft boiled eggs were not soft enough. But other than that, we live this place.
I fell in love with the eccentric interior.

First time here this morning. Service was friendly and helpful. Small menu and even smaller seating area that seems to get more cramped the further in you get... chairs n tables squashed together with barely enough room to move between them. Tiny outdoor space great for couples but not much else. Definitely not the place to go if you have a pram or mobility aid.
Food was awesome though. One of the best tasting granolas I've ever had, served with stewed fruit and a small but sensational panacotta. No need for the side serve of milk. Skinny capp was perfect too.
My young breaky companion wasn't as sold on Boucla's toasted croissant... too heavy on the cheese and not enough ham. Not completely toasted either so the cheeses were still solid rather than melted.
Good news for her drink though... Boucla serves different flavours of freshly-squeezed juice and you can mix n match ingredients. Apple + orange were spot on what the doctor ordered today.
I've wanted to try Boucla for ages and very happy that I finally did it today. Going back next time for some of the tempting Greek sweets in the cabinet.

Came to Boucla for brunch on their first Sunday trading day. The shakshouka was amazing - just the right amount of spice with an incredible mix of flavours. The perfect winter's dish. Will definitely be back.

My hubby and I decided to pop in for a bite of lunch. My first impression of the place was pretty positive. I loved the decor & vibe.

I ordered the papoutsaki and my hubby ordered the veggie tart. Food was below average. It was tasteless and bland. My aubergine was inconsistently cooked - Raw on the one side and cooked on the other. Everything just needed some more flavour. Really was not good and not appetising 😖.

I think this place is more of a coffee and cake joint. Wouldn't recommend eating lunch.
Princess Zelda
In all honesty I like this place , I like the little weird-old-hippylike-neighborhood-joint its fun and its interesting but do suck in your stomach to have a seat in the tiny place with just about every table from cash converters.
Beef roll (pre-made) and Bruchetta breakfast didnt take anything to actually 'cook' but we've managed to wait a significantly amount of time to get served. Water was nowhere in sight and only managed to finally get something halfway through the meal. I really loved the Bruchetta and would highly recommend it altough the $15 beef roll looked the part but was a bit lacking ....🤐
Foodieperth
Oh my god the cake here was amazing! We came here on a Thursday afternoon after hearing great things about their cakes. I ordered the chocolate and ricotta cake and my god was it amazing! It was so decadent and rich and was still warm when I ate it. Also a generous serving of cream :)
Eero
Chocolate ricotta cake is amazing except it always sells out if you go too late! The filo custard and pistachio cake was also great. Coffee is okay but the beans are a bit bitter. Not the baristas fault, dark roast just isn't to my taste.
Perth Eats
Great vibe and always busy, I will say the scents and aromas that are throughout the restaurant are very strong so I choose to take away or sit outside. Home made muesli bar is delightful and the coffee is great, staff are always gracious.
Mimifama
The chef who made our scrambled eggs and the smoked salmon with poached eggs needs a wake up call! The scrambled eggs and poached eggs were overcooked. The toast was cheap bread and as hard as rock. Everything was just plonked into the plate with no presentation. Coffee was cold despite asking for extra hot. This indicates complacency! Does Boucla believe Perth diners are fools? There are so many cafes in Subi that are dishing out beautifully presented and tasty breakfast dishes at similar prices. The only saving grace was the lemon ricotta cake which was still warm when we ate it. Other than that, we are never having cooked breakfast here.
PacMan
Muffin missed the mark, cake saved the day!

This eclectic little spot in Subi has instant ambiance appeal and their collection of Mediterranean dishes is a nice change on the usual offerings.

Unfortunately all I felt like was a good old fashioned muffin (which they also had), and it was sad....a couple of slices strawberries on top did not translate into anything of interest inside, tasted like bland cup cake dough!

The saviour was the chocolate and ricotta cake which was delicious and sizeable!

They had a broad (and different) selection of cakes and slices and I must say, with all that on offer, I was disappointed with my selection.

English breakfast tea was served hot and well brewed so no complaints there.

Boucla undoubtedly has a unique and very welcoming feel and I would probably go back to sample some of their other offerings - just not the muffin, which for this review has cost them a higher score, sorry guys!
Sybarite
Divine cake, awful muffin! Beautiful venue, will be back to sample dine in menu and more cakes! Outdoor seating available at front and back and the most cool nook inside!
SweetPoison
I am soo impressed by this little cafe. It has completely taken me by surprise. The menu was limited, but they had all my usual sides so thought I would give it a go. They really struggled with the concept of ordering just sides and kind of made a big deal about it - this made me want to get up and leave. We ordered anyway. The drinks came out hot and fast - pretty much as soon as we sat down ...although possibly due to the fuss they made ordering sides. When the food came out I was super impressed!!! I order the exact same side items for breakfast every time. It's funny how different every cafe can produce the same 4items! This was by far the best! Massive serving, presentation on point and those tomatoes were Amazing!! Soo impressed. Def recommend!!
OnePointFive
Beautiful Shakshuka & awesome coffee, Boucla is my new favourite cafe in Subiaco. Shaksuka was to die for. They put perfect amount of spices, generous amount of yummy thick chorizo, cooked everything just right. Their coffee surprised me though. It's strong but not bitter, smooth and creamy, delightful! They dont have a lot on menu, but I'm keen to try every dish slowly.

I stop around here all the time. Kept promising myself I'd drop in. Thank the lord I did. Wow, wow, wow... Super low key but reasonable prices, generous serves and good coffee and tea. Recommend you drop in for a piece of cake and a simple breakfast or lunch.
LittleGirlBigFood
I do like Boucla. They make good food with a lot of love. The cakes are amazing and the coffee is always pretty good. Not bad at all. Pleasant little meeting spot.
Homerj
Boucla used to be one of my favourites!
The cakes and slices are delicious ! Sadly since the owners have opened their new place " lady of Ro " the service and coffee is just not the same 😒
Girl. Can. Eat.
I love it here! The food is always tasty and fresh and the coffee is great. The only negative things- It's a little crowded at times however and they don't have high chairs.
CiderCraze
Always lovely to be greeted by chirpy staff! Oh and creamy coffee as well as delicious sweets! Everything looked superb. The sweet custard soufra I had was heavenly!
InMyFaceHole
Have been here many times for coffee. Haven't tried the food. I've always found it crazy busy and you're lucky to get a table in the overly crowded dining area.
The coffee is good but I wouldn't rave that it's amazing. I'm not a huge coffee drinker but a friend of mine is and he said the barrister might have changed recently as its not as nice as it used to be.
LovesFabFood
Had the worst customer service experience the last two times I have visited Boucla. The staff are not friendly, and today got our entire order wrong. Got sent a lukewarm flat white instead of a cap. One pot of tea when I specifically asked for tea for two, then when I queried it, was changed another $5 on top of our outrageously expensive Lunch for the girl at the counters mistake. Was sent two servings of the wrong meal and they forgot our chocolate and ricotta cake. Very disappointed as I have been coming here for years and the last few times the experience has been uncomfortable and sub par. No excuse as it wasn't a busy day! What a waste of $60!! 2 stars as food is always great but the old charm I loved about this place has gone.
CoffeeQueen88
I was greeted at the door by a lovely bearded man today. Girl behind the counter was super friendly too and helped me decide between all their amazing cakes. Settled on a banana, date, pecan one with cream cheese icing, delicious!! I love that they're open on Mondays AND have lunch options passed 2pm. I sat in a little dark corner with candles all around me. Love the different music they play too. Felt like I was in another world!

A great place in Subi to call in for a take away coffee or just to sit down and have a great tasting breakfast and coffee in a mug.....which I love. The inside has great charm and character, although a bit small, but still a good place to visit.
Vink
Been here a million times when I worked in Subiaco. It was a favourite back then because the food was usually pretty good and the coffee / atmosphere were amazing. The vibe inside is so unique and love the design. There is an undercover outdoor section that I always try to get a seat in. The coffee is always good and strong 👌🏻😌 The food can be quite inconsistent. Had the eggplant parmigiana today and it was yammy however the chicken pie was cold inside. Still my favourite cafe tho 💯
Perth Foodaholic
Cute little cafe in Subiaco. The cakes here are definitely worth coming for. However their food is quite expensive for what you get and they don’t always have the friendliest staff, which is a shame. Love the decor but it’s uncomfortable being jammed into such a small space. Probably would only come back for their cakes which are quite different and delicious, especially the soufra which is a traditional sweet Greek dessert made of filo pastry, cinnamon, eggs, cream, butter and pistachio nuts. Very more-ish.
ObesieOdettie
Visiting this place makes me feel so hip :)
It's sooo very cute, and 'cosy' - see Marge Simpson's definition.
The homemade cakes and slices here are DIVINE and served up big so their perfect to share.
Dinnertime
Coffee is nice but the slow cooked beef pie is cold, stodgy, no flavour and full of gristle. $18 bir rich as well.
Have also tried chicken pie which is also bland....
Shall not return for food, only for coffee
Scott Mierendorff
Went for coffees and a quick bite to eat! Coffee was a nice blend! The Spanakopita is definitely worth going for! The cakes looked amazing and would definitely go back to give them a try as well!
Drum_tum_tum
This cafe has high Subiaco prices and has been around for a while but since Melograno has opened its bright, fresh cafe around the corner I have stopped coming in to Boucla for their super-expensive food and not-always-the-friendliest service. They may need a revamp now they have some more competition.

We broke out the deadly treadies for this visit to Boucla. Long before hipster cafes and Cuban rib joints in Perth there was Boucla. Serving middle eastern food from the tiniest kitchen, people flocked to this cafe. I had made a habit of coming for the chocolate ricotta cake years before I drank coffee but found the crowds and lack of parking a real turn off. So hence the bikes. However the crowds have either gone hipster or the down turn in Perth is hitting Boucla hard. No one was there. What glorious food! Outstanding! Crowds please come back. Coffee was milky and kind of blah! Maybe hit the coffee around the corner (at a cafe I have previously reviewed) and then hit the food. Boucla is a survivor, give it some mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Has really good coffee, good food and atmosphere. On the average price range for the Subiaco suburb. Friendly staff and clean place. A place I return to often.

HOPELESS SERVICE. Hopeless service and continual excuses .... Went in for family of 4 for breakfast, paid nearly $100, waited almost an hour, then the wrong meals came out, sent them back, then the wrong meals came out again. 3 attempts and still can't get the order right or in a reasonable time. Nothing but excuses .... Absolutely hopeless. Eventually got our money back and left.
Jules
Very disappointed at the service of this local cafe. The food is very good, freshly made and beautifully presented and decorated. Found that waiting in a queue to pay and order just pointless - while the waiter stands around telling customers to hop in the queue because everyone else does! Don't understand at all!
TheBearReview
Not a bad place to go for breakfast if you are in the neighbourhood. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Really good baked goods and Greek pastries. Respectable coffee. The one thing that is a bit annoying is you have to pay up front. It is a sit down cafe after all. It would be nice to pay at the end, especially if you are sitting inside.
Azhani Noor
Absolutely adore this café. It's a little go-to spot on the weekends, but don't sleep in too long or not all the cakes will sell out! Things to try for here: baklava.
Andrew Davis
Fantastic coffee, delicious desserts, and friendly staff. While there was a bit of a wait as thee was only one lady there making the coffees and taking orders it was worth the wait. The cakes that we tried were really delicious and the coffee was great.
I'll definitely be back sometime soon.
Redcat
What a great little place. Awesome, low key vibe, amazing cake selection and friendly staff. Great for a quick afternoon treat. Also has a few savoury options. This cafe really never disappoints!

The coffee is passable and not bad but the focus is not specifically on coffee so my hope is the food is excellent.

It’s a nice place and sitting out the front on a sunny morning is perfect. It is busy and the staff are in good spirits. However it is also the sixth cafe I’ve visited in a row in Perth that has no table service. I still don’t understand why it is so hard?

So as I eluded to, I ordered the scrambled eggs on toast. They are presented in a cool rustic terracotta plate with high edges. Once I got over the fact that again the bread was not buttered (and further no butter was offered) I then had to wait for some salt and pepper. Now I was ready and all I can say is breakfast was plain. I needed to add salt three times which...
Foodlover
A real gem. Such an interesting place to sit with a friend and share a coffee and something sweet and delicious. The interior is a little dark which makes the clutter of interesting items for sale seem exotic. It's often busy so make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy your visit.
Gina
Stop whinging and start appreciating. Boucla is a breath of fresh air in Perth. Small....'yes' , tight on space..'yes'. But gee .... I come here to enjoy the amazing quality good, coffee and friendly service. I live in South Fremantle and happily make a trip to Subiaco to be spoilt at Boucla!!
Jet
Very squashy. Not a bad place, was really buzzing, but it's very small and squashy. You all sit on top of one and other....
Melisa Ciputra
Really good coffee for price lower than others. Fast barista, good strong coffee. Too bad I can hardly ever find seats. It's that good!

Afternoon Tea Delight. Amazing coffee... with probably the most delicious piece of carrot cake I have had, ever?!
Alexandra
Beautiful cake and really lovely atmosphere.

Best value for money and amazing food for dinner. Accommodating and friendly staff. Hard to beat
Andrea
Food has gone down the gurgle. Today was my second time experiencing a bad lunch at Boucla. First time I had a very bland filo pastry/egg concoction, no flavour, no herbs, just plain dry boring filo pastry with egg in between the layers. Greens on the side tasted like expired leafs from a plastic bag, not even a slice of tomato. No value for money.
I went back today giving the chef the benefit of having a bad day in the kitchen.
The filo pastry spinach/feta parcels are kept in the warmer on the bench top, and boy they were soggy. The "trio of daily salads" for AUD14.00 is served on a small cake plate!! The chicken salad was basically oily crumbed chicken pieces (not done freshly today), lots of apples and celeriac. The greens are still coming from a plastic bag, but this time included ONE cherry tomato and huge roasted, but soggy pieces of bread soaked in too much vinegar. Chickpea/artichoke salad was just ok, but again absolutely no value for money. No piece of bread was offered with the salad.
I feel the staff gets overwhelmed navigating the crowed place. They just do their job without much enthusiasm.
I will definitely not give them a third chance.
Monica
Nothing but great cake. Went here for lunch with my husband today. Lovely decor but too little space to move around - just lining up to make your order you have to squeeze past the line and bump into others having lunch at the nearest tables. Food was below average. I had a veggie tart that looked yummy but unfortunately had no seasoning or flavor. I've heard good things about the cakes - and OMG!! the chocolate ricotta cake was to die for!! Will be back but only for coffee and cake - if we can get a table outside!
Dough Nut
Great decor and atmosphere

Food... Overpriced cakes, good breakfasts.

Coffee... My coffee was stunning. Smooth and full of flavour.

Outdoor seating to watch the world go by

Ambiance, good service and delicious food. Wednesday morning we went to Boucla for breakfast. Coffee was excellent as was the delicious vegetarian tart we chose for our healthy breakfast. Great coffee and great food make Boucla a first choice place to meet friends, eat excellent well presented food and enjoy the hospitality of owner Despina and her friendly and efficient staff. Be mindful that if you want to enjoy the vibe of Boucla, be prepared that you may not get your order filled in five minutes. Boucla's attraction is that it is a busy "happening" scene, so exercise some patience once you have placed your order. Your patience will be rewarded with exceptional food and coffee. Thoroughly recommend Boucla as the best place to enjoy great food (including a glorious selection of mouth watering cakes) coffee and good company.

Customer service, health and safety, responsibility!. We visited the above cafe yesterday for a coffee and something to eat around 10am. It was packed inside and out. The whole area of the cafe would be half the size of my lounge room. Tables crammed next to one another and Greek and other decor obviously in tune with the type of food served was everywhere. I put my bag on what appeared to be the only available table inside (outside was taken completely). I also said to one of the staff was it OK to leave it there whilst my husband and I selected what we wanted. She said it was and I returned to the table within five minutes or so. I smelt smoke immediately and then saw where it came from. My leather bag was on fire! There was a tea candle behind it and it had obviously fall on over on top of it. There was also a "turkish" style curtain which could have easily caught fire next hanging behind the candle. The Greek proprietor immediately came up and saw what had happened. She asked how much the bag was worth and when I told her $80 or so immediately offered $100. I said that that was good of her and she went off and brought back a bottle of water and glasses "to make you feel better". We ate our cake and greek salad and had to wait quite a while for coffee so were there about half an hour or more. I had my back to the kitchen. She had passed by our table a couple of times but I assumed she would return. Nothing happened so I either had to ask for the $100 or walk out. The latter was decided as we weren't going to lower ourselves to ask her for money which she had offered. She actually was sitting at the table behind us when we got up doing her books but made no effort to stop us or say anything. I think this is not only a health and safety issue but it also shows complete lack of responsibility both in that capacity and in honouring what she offered. She obviously felt some kind of responsibility in offering money in the first place. Why have candles on during the day? Why have candles in such a cramped place? It breathes danger and an incident like this happening. A woman close by was reading a newspaper and we noticed a candle under that. We are amazed that another episode like this has not occurred before, or maybe it has?! Other steps have been taken in regard to this incident. Of course we will never go there again and will tell everyone we know not to.

A shame.... Used to love this place and was a very regular customer. Unfortunately, the service has driven me away. Despite a few genuine staff members, most of the staff are very rude, inconsiderate and have absolutely no idea what the phrase 'customer service' means. It's a real shame when bad service bring down the whole vibe of the place.

What has happened?? Minuscu.... What has happened??
Minuscule over cooked toast. Overlooked eggs.
Mounds of dried herbs on everything.
Less than a quarter of an avocado cut into slithers for $3.
Not once but twice - I had to make sure.
Think the owner is away. Very very disappointed

Best coffee in perth. It won best coffee in perth for a reason!
Great coffee, BEAUTIFUL food, great service and great urban atmosphere.
It is a bit far up Rokeby rd from the main shops but it's worth the walk up :)

Big Boucla Brekky. Yummy looking mainly vegetarian menu on the blackboard when we turn up mid morning on a week day, but I'm after MEAT! Fortunately they can accommodate me with the Big Boucla Breaky comprising of eggs, bacon, chipolatas, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast, a snip at $18. Coffee is hot and smooth and they can indulge my cream on the side request. A busy, bustling, cosy little place with an eclectic clientele.
Kermitzee
Very disappointing. I have been there a few times and there's always some kind of issue - bad service, long wait, inefficient paying system, cramped..but this time, it was the food. Ordered the chicken pie which was supposed to be puff pastry with chicken and veg in bechamel sauce - no sign of bechamel sauce, dry chicken with a bit of carrot inside and soggy microwaved pastry. For $17, i certainly didn't think they would microwave it to heat it up. Not sure if I'll go back...
Lockie Subi
Not much chop. Took about 20 mins to get a take away coffee on Saturday morning... They got life - never again
Amy
Awesome cakes...if you can find a seat!. Went with a friend for Saturday brunch and we sat cramped in a corner, being bumped by everyone that walked past. That was the only negative. the feta scrambled eggs were OK but the white chocolate and berry cake was amazing! The best cake I have eaten! Well worth a visit for coffee and cake.
Fish
A great Mediterranean vibe here and more importantly plenty if people come to enjoy it. Saturday morning is peak time with heaps of great food coming out if the kitchen. The coffee was also a highlight. If you haven't been it worth a visit!

Went for coffee and cake both were tasty, but the waiter could of been friendlier

Shocking attitude of the coffee guy with the long hair. I've been getting my morning coffee from Boucla for the last couple of weeks but certainly won't be returning. I like my coffee extra hot and was given a luke warm coffee this morning. I asked for it to be heated up a bit and he flat out refused. Apparently he was too worried he might burn himself - strange considering I have never had a problem having an extra hot coffee anyway in Perth. In a rude manner he then told me to go and heat it up in a microwave and a number of other things. Thanks for the great start to the morning Boucla - I won't be returning.
Brett Carboni
Nice coffee, quirky atmosphere, tiny bit pretentious (but hey, it won't kill you - I'm not there to be fawned upon), nice food and a bit expensive (but it *is* Perth so they're probably paying top wages).

At Last!. With chain cafes dominating Rokeby road, I was all but astonished to find a cafe just a few doors up with so much personality! Packed from floor to ceiling with beautiful trinkets, the candle lit interior is nothing but welcoming. The array of Mediterranean savoury food is delicious but it's impossible to go wrong with a slice from the spectacular collection of cakes, muffins, tarts and biscuits. Baked fresh on site, the moist mouth-watering cakes are the finest that I have tasted in all of Perth! With a quirky barrister welcoming me in from the street, I was immediately entranced by the cosy and one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Thank you Boucla for bringing some life back into Perth’s culinary scene!

Boucla uncovered!!. At Boucla today my perfectly prepared spinach and fetta scrambled eggs breakfast include a photo shoot, Boucla beloved by the locals for its relaxed atmosphere, its delicious breakfast and lunches and its irresistible cakes!! will soon be known to many people. Despina and the friendly crew deliver a great cafe experience and Fred's coffee is the best.
The Chump
Unpleasant.. After being informed that we should wait outside for our coffees because new customers couldn't fit around the entrance, the barista threw a sugarcube out of the shop at my colleague to get our attention when our coffees were ready.

Here is two tips for Boucla:
1. The design of this establishment is flawed and overcrowded. There is no room to wait for your coffee. Do something about this. Take away the table in the corner, put up a sign, get staff to bring coffees outside - do something rather than getting frustrated at your customers.
2. Do not throw things at your customers.
Ashleigh
Dissapointed. Maybe it was because I had high expectations for this place but overall I was disappointed. Firstly half the items on the menu were "not available" secondly, the waitress seemed quite rude and lastly of the food that was available none where particularly tasty at all. Maybe I will give this place a try again in the future, it could have been just an off day.

ATTN: Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, your services are needed.. Went to Boucla for lunch on a Saturday as the girlfriend had heard good things about this place. It was quite busy but we managed to find a seat in the outer portion of the restaurant which suited me as the inside seemed quite cramped. Attempted to order two different items off the limited menu and was both times told that they were unavailable that day. I ended up deciding to settle for a coffee instead, which proved to be a wise choice once my fellow diners received their meals. Disappointingly soggy pastry resembling a microwave job was not what we expected from the Spanakopita, considering the prices on the menu and the high ratings this place had received. Puff pastry pie that would make Mrs Mac cringe. 30 minutes later 2/3 of our coffees were missing in action, and that was our cue to cut our losses. A rude cashier further dampened the experience, condescendingly advising us that it was a long macchiato rather than a "long mac" (thanks for that).
I wanted to enjoy this place, I really did. I'm not a fussy eater and I'm reasonably understanding, but this is the first time I've had such a horrendous experience eating out in Perth. One small positive came from this experience, it annoyed (inspired?) me enough to make this urbanspoon account and warn other diners about this monstrosity. Don't waste your money, or more importantly, your time here. Seriously, go to McDonalds.
Gluttony Is My Sin.
Don't bother, unless you're looking for a bad time.. Went in for lunch on Saturday, as I've always thought this place looked interesting. Tried to order for myself & my boyfriend. Staff were unfriendly. Strike one.

Had to return to the counter 3 times as everything on the menu he tried to order was not available, even though it was only 12pm. Strike two. He eventually settled on not eating, and so I ordered my own meal and coffee for the both of us.

My meal came after a decently long wait. It was terrible. What was supposedly meant to be a puff pastry chicken pie with vegetables in a béchamel sauce, turned out to be a soggy parcel of dry, bland chicken and frozen peas and corn. Strike three. All for an exuberant price of $16 for something a reheated frozen meal would have topped in taste. Strike four.

Another friend's dish, as she described: "tastes like boiled spinach in a microwaved puff pastry". Which, let's be honest, is probably exactly what it was.

Following this disappointment, hoping some decent coffee would redeem them somewhat. Both coffees never came. Strike five. Had to ask for a refund, and they ended up shortchanging me in the refund. Strike six.

Six strikes is well and truly out in my opinion. So can I recommend this place? You bet. I'd recommend you stay away, and save your cash and tastebuds for something more worthwhile.

Unimpressed. Went in for breakfast on a Saturday. Ordered a salmon bagel, a waitress then came to my table 5 minutes later to tell me there were no salmon bagels and I would need to order something else. I then ordered poached eggs on toast, they didnt refund me the excess I paid for the bagel or apologise for not having it. The poached eggs were inedible - two undercooked eggs on soggy wheat bread which was soaked in vinegar. I ate maybe a quarter of it at the most, they did not offer to refund or anything. I won't return ever again.

AMAZING. Whilst super busy, the food is to die for (especially vegetarian tart- pastry free so very healthy as well) and love the DIY hot chocs, they give you chocolate buttons on the side so you can add as much flavour as you want.
service was fine when i was there.
definitely suggest

Cake heaven. I've been meaning to try this for ages and now I wondered why I waited so long....the cakes...god, the cakes were good. We had a couple of lovely rolls (continental and roast beef) but they were instantly forgotten when we got to to the cakes...a berry muffin thingy that oozed a sort of white chocolatey gooey filling, and some sort of pistachio-walnut cake that was to die for. If I'd had time I would have gone back and tried some of the others....as it is, I'm hiding the bathroom scales and going back tomorrow.

Consistently good coffee, cool setup & friendly staff- what's not to love?
Terrine De Lapin
This cafe never disappoints. Always great Crema coffee & the cakes are some of the best in town, especially the Soufra. Savoury dishes are also delicious. LIke the gifts on display as well.

A great little cafe!. I frequent Boucla with a good friend a lot of the time. We have always enjoyed catching up there. The atmosphere of the restaurant is unique and interesting. At times, it can be very cramped and if you are stuck near some of the more snobbish residents of Subiaco, moving can be hard. The food is very enjoyable as well as the coffee. It does get very busy and unfortunately there is a time to wait however, I enjoy the place immensely.

Disappointing service. The cafe is a great quaint little place with great food and dessert options, however their staff could use some manners and actually smile once in a while. They make you feel like you are bothering them when ordering and they are quite arrogant and stuck up. That's off putting as there are equally great cafes around Subi and Leederville with much friendlier staff ESPECIALLY for the steep price.

Terrible service. This is one of those places where the staff won't speak unless spoken to - because they're feeling very precious & entitled. I walked in, they all look up, not a word. I tend to believe if you're being paid to serve, part of that service is a greeting. You're servants, it's probably not permanent, we've all been there, get over it!

To be fair, coffees are fantastic. Just think part of their duty to their employer is to smile and say hi.

There's a lot of choice out there these days... second chances are unnecessary.

Although the cakes are moist and delectable, staff give off an arrogant vibe & a slice of bland, microwaved quiche with a side of lettuce comes in at a cool $17 - which is enough for French pastries for two at Chez Jean Claude next store.

Feels like Istanbul. One of the pleasures in life - a great lunch at Boucla, followed by a terrific coffee brewed by the gorgeous bohemian barista!

Great on the outside but too scared to look in. Ordered a takeaway coffee other day received a cup with dirt & grime all under the bottom. Makes me wonder what s happening inside the machine but more importantly the kitchen.

Nice little cafe with indoor and outdoor dining. I was impressed with the variety of pastries, sandwiches, salads and cakes displayed. Having been here a few times, my favourite has to be the lamb sandwich filled with relish and the bread was topped off with crushed nuts and seeds it was simply devine! I also love the chocolate hazelnut biscotti and muesli slice which were unique in taste and texture. Even during busy lunch hours, the service was exceptional and all the staff are always helpful and polite.

It was nice to only pay (by Perth's expensive coffee standards) $4 for my take away coffee and skipping the que having supplied my personal cup...but that was about the extent of the good stuff at Boucla.
I've only been there for the coffee and have to admit that as a paying customer one bad coffee is enough to make sure I never order coffee at the same place again.
The milk was too hot and the coffee was old and "ashy" tasting.

The Barista @ Boucla is BRILLIANT! I am a caffe latte tragic & have 4 shots in my latte - it is a delicious drop & essential 2 my day, don't go anywhere else 4 your specific brew!

Deeeeelightful. Every visit we have had at Boucla has been perfect. food, coffee and cakes are perfection!
We'll be back time after time.

While the coffee is great and the kitsch fit out is surprisingly warm and comfortable, the food is simple to the point of bland and the service is intolerant bordering on rude.
Cheninsheriff
A old time favourite of mine. i realized had not been for a long time and was in the area stopped by for a couple of coffees and a bite of lunch. Well it turned out it was only one coffee as the coffee was so far of the mark! And the food that was on display and look all so good was microwaves making it bland and soggy. Really hope it was a once off as this is a great location
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Worst experience of staff EVER. What has happened to this amazing cafe? The food is FANTASTIC, the cakes are AMAZING and everything about Boucla is AWESOME.

EXCEPT THE STAFF. many people here don't know the owner, and I can assure you she is a GREAT lady who works very hard. Unfortunately the selection of staff (bar one or two of the barrista staff) are just horrid.

The lady with the brunette/blonde hair and the one who subsequently thinks she owns the joint is appauling.. the firs time I gave her the benefit of the doubt, the second time she refused to serve me and gave me attitude over a bill that I told her she was wrong on. Lose the attitude, it will do you no good.

Good things come in small packages. Friday July 20 3pm

Love the great coffee
Love the pretty good tea selection
Love the mouth watering homemade cakes and slices available
Love the location it is in even though it is Subiaco
Loathe the crammed in seats inside

Won't be back. Although Boucla has lots going for it, I won't be back. They are now covering their "open" food with plastic, but in the glass case where the savoury food is housed, there were flies in there making it impossible to order.
