Another french restaurant my friend picked for my birthday. it s a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. truffles can be added to any dishes for additional $, we picked some dishes from the seasonal menu, the truffle dish is a little pricey and they used grinded truffles on the bone marrow so flavour not very popped i d say. but still a fancy meal with the flaming crepe.

With an oversized carved wooden bar, hand-painted tiled walls, four-metre antique French silk weaver’s table, and 1950 Parisian VeloSoleX motorised bicycle suspended overhead, the decor in Gavroche is as French as it gets.  The menu pays homage to Parisian bistros, showcasing an array of classic dishes as well as a wine list of hand-selected French and Australian wines.

I dined here with a friend and used a Fork 50% deal. We were warmly greeted and seated at a nice table. We received water and the menu immediately. Bread was also served (complimentary). For starters we had the charcuterie board which had a selection of meats, pate, pickles and crusty bread. Everything on the board was tasty and we polished it off. For the mains, we decided to both order the mussels in white wine sauce and fries. It was a 1kg serving of mussels with a generous side of fries. The mussels were cooked perfectly, there was plenty of the delicious sauce and every mussel shell in the bucket had a mussel in it! (Win!) I appreciated the staff's attentiveness on the night as well. Overall, I had a great experience at Gavroche. Even at full price, the menu seemed like it would be reasonable for a mid week dinner or a date. Will be back soon!

Located in The Old Rum Store near Spice Alley, this French restaurant exudes charm with its fit out. We were warmly greeted and seated quite quickly. Water is immediately offered and brought out along with the menus. Big picture framed menus are presented and we decide to have appetisers and mains. I think score would be closer towards 4.5 due to below.

Service is pretty good however I think they mixed up our order of Soupe A L’Oignon Truffee (french onion soup) with table next to us when it placed in front of my mum and the table next door was missing their soup. Their’s was quickly brought out to them but I had to wait a bit for my Gratin De Saint Jacques (scallops) and possibly the only blip to our meal in terms of service. The soup was tasty and the scallops had a lovely creamy cauliflower and béchamel sauce.

For the meat mains we had Agneau (lamb) and Canard (duck) and these dishes were superb. Both were had tender meat and wonderful sides to them. Ratatouille with the lamb and Rosti Potatoes with the duck. We both loved the mains and definitely the highlight of the meal. We had Brocolis, Citron Et Amandes. This broccoli dish was a nice accompaniment to the richness of the meats.

The desserts were a must for us as we love French sweets. We had the Paris Brest (choux pastry filled with hazelnut mousseline) and Creme Brûlée. The choux was crisp and filled with a lovely hazelnut cream. Great contrast of textures and pleasant to eat. Creme Brûlée has a nice toffee shard top and creamy vanilla custard underneath. Great way to finish the meal.

Nice place to have a meal and pleasant atmosphere.

Beautiful interior and friendly staff! The scallop entree was amazing, and the escargot were nicely flavoured too. The creme brûlée was smooth and creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness

Gavroche is situated on the 1st floor of a new building in the kensington st eating precinct. Not really visible from the street level but has been set up with a nice ambience with plenty of french rustic charm, enthusiastic but unobtrusive service and plenty of personal space between tables.

The food is classic french bistro fare, a hearty affair with all the french bistro classics on offer - escargot, onion soup, tartare and duck confit. Everything was cooked well, from the creamy but smooth consistency of the mashed potatoes to the slightly bouncy escargot with the buttery garlicky sauce. While its just a Sydney interpretation of humble french bistro food, it is done well and a place that executes the fundamentals right is always appreciated.

This is a pretty good French restaurant located in Kensington Street. The decor and ambience is very reminiscent of Paris except with more space between tables. We had the 3 course menu which included a good selection of classic French dishes. The escargots were really good and the definitely use the table to soak up the rest of the sauce. The duck leg confit was another really great dish. The skin wasn’t super crispy but the meat itself was really moist and delicious.

Every dish was great but my favourite was dessert. The Paris Brest (choux pastry ring filled with hazelnut mousseline) was not too sweet and very strong in the hazelnut flavour. Service was also amazing so I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Somewhat of a hidden gem in the myriad of restaurants at Chippendale and probably our new favourite in the French bistro category.

So let’s take a tangent and say the deserts were amazing, nothing sounds more weirder to either of us but it was the standout of the night. Both desserts were equally decadent but with the right counterbalance of savouriness from the choux and the bitterness of the chocolate; we enjoyed both unconditionally.

Now the rest were just solid deliveries, nothing too fancy. Special mention has to be the ravioli. I mean yes there’s Pasta in French restaurants but usually it plays second fiddle to the classics. Here it’s a must try and the bisque sauce should make it absolutely impossible to pass up :)

Very happy to visit again. Maybe after we’ve done the rounds?

Had brunch here on a quiet afternoon, they graciously offered us a table near the window. Our favourite was definitely the seafood ravioli, highly recommend even it is not included in the set menu. Having seen a number reviews for the duck, we had high expectations of it, but was slightly disappointed. Flavour was great but lacked the juiciness and aromatics that we expected. Ended our meal with the Crème Brûlée, definitely was of the best we had, light sweetness with well balanced vanilla fragrance.

Thank you so much allowed us to still have lunch for mother's day even though we were late. We had our elderly mother who can't walk fast. Food awesome experience we will remember as it was beautiful and tasty omg the onion soup and bread we couldn't get enough of. Atmosphere was so lovely not too loud or busy. Service was great no issues anything we asked was answered with a smile 😊

Good impression of a French bistro and well worth a flight of stairs. The setting is on point as is the menu, everything you expect appears on the menu, there’s even a fixe prix menu. The steak frites was perfectly cooked and the French fries just right. Seasoning was perfect but the bernaise sauce had chilled a little, but there was plenty of it to dip your steak or fries in. The wine list isn’t too long but I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking, a Beaujolais would have been nice to see though. Staff are pleasant and efficient. This was my third visit and I’ll continue to return.

Nice cosy atmosphere with very delicious French food. The Duck liver parfait was so delicious, the steak was cooked well to our liking. And my favourite dish there is their dessert - Crêpes flambéed with Grand Marnier sauce

My husband and I tried Gavroche for the first time as a pre-theatre menu before the Moulin Rouge show. They had a set menu called 'Temptation' and it featured all the very well reviewed dishes like onion soup, escargot and it was only $80pp which is such a great price for a 3 course menu. We were absolutely blown away by every dish! Escargot with parsley garlic butter was a 10/10. Escargot was soft and gelatinous but the star of the dish was that rich and buttery sauce. Save up some of your complementary baguette to mop up that sauce!!! Onion soup with comte cheese and truffle was very flavoursome, loved the cheese and great on a winter's night 9/10 Fish dumplings and lobster bisque with prawns was a very unique dish. The fish dumplings didn't look like dumplings at all, almost like little chicken breast pieces except they were so light, jiggly, melted in the mouth and delicious! The lobster bisque sauce was perfection and the prawns had a nice smoky taste to them too. This was a surprising 10/10 dish for me. Slow cooked beef brisket in red wine sauce and mash was divine, I'd give it a 9/10. The meat was so tender, pulled away at the fork so easily and the red wine sauce had a bit of a punch which brought out the flavour of the meat so well. The potato puree broke up the dish very nicely. For dessert I loved the chocolate mousse. Nice and silky mousse texture with crunchy chocolate cookie bits was an 9/10 We also had the crepes with orange sauce flambeed with grand marnier. The flames were impressive and so fun! But the alcohol taste of the grand marnier was a bit strong for my liking (I'm not a big drinker so if you appreciate your alcohol you'd like this) so I give this one an 8/10 Overall, I can't wait to return to Gavroche!!!
