Nice service, lovely place and delicious food. Good for friends gathering or dates. Convenient location, better book in. Affordable price and will visit again.
Subsolo is a Spanish tapas restaurant in Sydney CBD. Most recent time I went was to celebrate a friend’s birthday as he was craving paella. Most food was delicious as always, however the paella was average. The wait staff were friendly and they make a mean sangria.
I have been to Subsolo for my BD dinner 3 weeks ago. Very friendly staff, warm atmosphere and nice decoration. Food was very yum, we chose 3 cuisine from menu. I strongly recommend to have meat skewer in your main, we had 1 lamb skewer and one beef, very tasty.
I spent the last summer in Spain... Lunch times usually meant tapas or a bocadillo with jamon. Which is why I was so excited to try Subsolo. This would be my first flashback to #thatsummerinspain. But before we go on, a Sangria please!
Looking for somewhere to book @ the last minute, and came across Subsolo. Easy booking for 7:30pm for group of friends from work. Staff were very attentive and looked after us well. Food was wonderful, esp. the meat skewers were tender and the platter cold meat/cheese was really good.
We ordered to too much food! Then we had dessert on top of that. By the time we left @ closing, we were full. Only downfall was the music was too loud and we had trouble chatting amongst ourselves. Our table was just next to one of the speakers. Price was reasonable. Just over $60/head - a good night out!
I’ve been there once, food was great last time esp the pork belly tapas was memorable so I went back for it. However it became one of the worst dishes of the night. 😣 The crackling was rubbery & salty, unlike last time, it was crispy & not as salty. They charge $24 for 4 small cubes, not really worth the money. I hate restaurants inconsistent in their food. 😤 The other bad dish we had was the meatballs. It was dry (both outside & inside) and a bit of gamey taste.
Apart from that two tapas, everything was good. The Bacalao salt cod croquettes were tasty & freshly prepared. The chicken fillets & rump was tender with charred taste. Seafood paella was al dente but a tad salty, still bearable.
Great environment, great service. Food is a little pricey. Paella is quite small for the price they charge. The Espetada grills as well, 1 skewer with small chips & salad min costs $34.... 😬
If you like tapas Subsolo is a must.
We went on a weekday and didn’t book- luckily the place is pretty large and most people were at the bar.
The drinks were lovely, I had the best sangria I’ve ever had. The food menu is big and I felt there was something for everyone. The patatas bravas with aioli were amazing!
My only gripe was the slight smell of fat- however I understand that it’s difficult to ventilate an underground restaurant.
I will be back next time I’m in Sydney for sure, there’s a lot more on the menu for me to try!
Went earlier in the evening. Cocktails were decent but not cutting edge. Food was nice but again not my most amazing meal. Service was great though and server was very nice.
My highlight from this underground Spanish restaurant is the paella. The dish comes with very crunchy and crispy edges which I really really liked and to be honest, I've not had paella like this before. From the many starters to choose from, I tried the cheesy croquettes which were very cheesy and delicious.
Great service. Really loved the deli board and zucchini flowers! The meatballs are also highly recommended. Had the Coto de Hayes Tempranillo and it was a great accompaniment to the tapas we chose.
