Wow. Just wow. We have been fans of GPD for some years, but whatever has changed with Alex taking over the reins again has taken GPD from great to next level WOW. The essence of GPD hasn't changed, but it has stepped up another notch to deliver meals and an experience that is just so much better than what was already really good.
Kurobota pork rack with pear puree and duck fat parsnips and black & white cabbage. Mind-blowingly delicious - can't find the words to describe the flavours and textures and just how great it was. Duck that fell from the bone and melted in your mouth. Preceded by entrees that set us up for a stand-out experience. Burrata, crab, saltbush, walnut, umami by the bucketload. Beef tartare that stands up against the best Paris can offer (we were there 3 weeks prior, so have a good reference point).
And just when you think it's as good as it gets - wine to blow you mind. Alex was offering a couple of wines from the cellar, and we chose a velvet-smooth 2000 Talbot's Shiraz Cab from Mudgee, on recommendation (and tasting) from the always-amazing Jasmine. As our Talbots reached a beautiful smooth conclusion, a (complimentary and very generous) tasting of a Bannockburn Serre 2005b Pinot Noir. Next-level smooth and a wine I have never (and will likely never again) get to experience.
I used to love Glebe Point Diner. Whatever the next level above that is, I'm doing it right now. An absolutely faultless night and i literally can not wait to come back again.
To Alex and the entire team front and back of house - thank you and see you again real soon!
Foud this place by chance amd so glad i did. The pate was amazing and for the first time in a long time at a restraunt a perfect medium rare steak. The staff were great.
This is a really lovely modern Australian restaurant in Glebe. All the dishes were fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. From the entrees, I really liked the duck liver pate and the potato rosti. For mains, the scotch fillet was really well cooked and complemented well with the fried onions. I also recommend to stay for dessert because the lemon tart was really good as well. Overall, great experience and great food so I’d be happy to come back!
We visited this restaurant as part of The Glebe Tasting Treks. It was our first venue of the evening as part of our progressive dinner and it set us up well for the rest of the night. The staff were warm and hospitable.
We had a few sharing dishes off their starter menu. These included the Raw Kingfish and Fried Spencer Gulf Squid. My favourite was the Duck Liver Pate which was smooth and rich and went well on the grilled bread and smeared with the pear jam to offset the richness of the pate. Served with a glass of wine or a bottle of beer, the group were happy campers at this restaurant.
Would be great to try the other dishes off the menu as quite interesting choices.
Lai Heng took me here for lunch once, and I didn’t manage to blog it, so am glad to get an opportunity with a lovely dinner with some friends from the United World Colleges. We did the $70 banquet menu (and has some *lovely* wines with it) and thought it was a great variety and very decent-sized portions.
Wonderful food, complimented by a wonderful wine list and friendly welcoming service. We didn't have a booking on a busy Wednesday night, but all efforts were made to accommodate us. Will definitely be back. Well done Glebe Point Diner.
Probably had the best scotch fillet ever this weekend - would highly recommend it. It was well seasoned and cooked, with no gimmicks like sauces disguising the taste of the meat. Entree special rib was lovely as well.
always great... dependably good food, service, wine and experience. have been here at least a dozen times since moving to the area, and have loved every time, with small or large groups... mid-week byo is awesome...
glebe has come a long way over the past ten years... this restaurant had a lot to do with its improvement, demonstrating the demand for suburban dining.
outdoor tables are preferable, especially in winter, when you can snuggle up under a blanket with a heater.
Stumbled into this little place quite by accident. All of the specials on the board sounded very interesting so ordering was quick and painless.
ALL of the food was quite exceptional.
I am a cook myself so am unimpressed by overpriced, simple meals. This establishment is NOT like that. For a Modern Australian restaurant, this would be very close to the top of the Sydney list for me. Simple, Elegant, unassuming and Delicious.
One gripe would be the wine prices, which were a tad on the high side... One French wine was almost a $30 mark up from the retail price... which was a bit confusing.
The service, however, was 1st class and beyond reproach.
Whether your an Inner Westie, an 'Out of Towner'... or just a Eastern Suburbanite who wants to buy amazing food at half the price (at least) of what your paying down the road... this place deserves your attention.
Will come back in summer for the outside seating. Looking forward to it!
Had the tasting menu with matching wine tonight. It was fantastic start to finish. Definitely the best value tasting menu I've had in Sydney.
Awesome lunch here today. Great service - friendly , attentive and proactive. Very good wine recommendations as well.
The entree of Brussel sprouts, broccoli with blue cheese (see photo) was out of this world good. Could eat that every day easily.
The main was 12 hour brisket on polenta. Very good, although needed to be seasoned a little more.
Overall a first class experience, love this little gem in Glebe.
I love this place!! A hidden gem that not enough people know about. Have eaten there 3 times (so far) and had a great experience each time. Friendly service and quality food and drink that is hard to not keep coming back for.
Absolutely stunning food. We had the 3 course dinner. The servings looked smaller but we were stuffed by the end of it. Highly recommended the fish of the day and the Angus tartare. Food was also beautiful to look at and servers knew exactly what wine to match the plates.
I very much recommend this place for a nice dinner, we were seated outside and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A lovely place for dining with a three course $75 or two course $65 menu to choose from seasonal dishes that have an Australian Pacific style and high class bistro style. The wine list offers style and substance but be prepared for pre dinner drinks and two bottles of wine for 4-6 to double the bill. The menu offers opportunity for dish matching with some share plates/sides. A great restaurant to bring colleagues or a group of friends.
Overall very satisfying meal, we went for a dinner where they were only doing their set menu which was a bit unexpected and ended up being quite a bit more expensive than planned. I understand that they generally do also offer a la carte, and that there are also lunch specials.
In terms of the set menu, I think they had a good variety of options, and almost everything was very appealing to me. The kingfish carpaccio was light and subtle, and the spring salad my friend had was lovely, the mix of citrus and cheese which I thought was an unexpected pairing was actually very well done. For the mains, the duck was perfectly cooked, as was the zucchini flower which still had some bite to it. My friend's steak was enjoyable, but I think not nearly as nice as the duck. For dessert, the chocolate mousse with salted chocolate sauce and olive oil was probably a bit much - it was a bit too rich, a bit too salty, and while a few mouthfuls were lovely it was actually quite hard to finish. The pavlova was a much more balanced dessert, not too sweet or too tart.
The location is nice, it was busy in that quiet hum kind of way, not a bustling way. I think calling this a diner is probably a bit of a misleading name! The staff were friendly, and the courses were served at a reasonable pace. I was a bit put off by being asked for a tip at the till on a $200 bill, and I hope this doesn't become standard practice in Australia.
Went here for a casual dinner with a work colleague and the host and the food were sublime. Haven't had great food like that for so very long. Great menu and impeccable service. From the moment we arrived it was such a wonderful night. Thank you
We went here with friends to celebrate a birthday, absolutely amazing. Everyone loved everything on the menu, the service is incredible and the restaurant ambience is lovely. Emma seated us and gave impeccable service - 5 stars in every way , highly recommend a meal here, if you are thinking about it just book it in! We are already planning our next meal!
Second time dining here, tonight we walked in for an early dinner, and everything they serve is just so on point. We had the 2 course menu; potato scallops w sour cream & roe (would love an option here for extra roe as an add-on to balance out a bit more), pate w onion jam (which is ridiculously good), pasta w broccoli purée & Italian sausage (very good), pork cutlet with pickles (very very good) and finally, the house salad (which is just perfect).
Wine recommendations were perfectly matched, and the service so lovely, honest and friendly. It was a quiet rainy Wednesday night, dining early, but this is truly one of the best neighbourhood bistros for their food in Glebe/Dale. Can’t wait to be back again.
Lovely spot serving good food. The sommelier was excellent and some dishes were very good but couldn't say the menu was flawless overall. Feels a bit like they could shoot for a slightly simpler, more down-to-Earth offering and they could really hit a bullseye, but at present it doesn't perfectly hit the mark.
