Review Glebe Point Diner - Sydney

Hana Marra Murra
Absolutely stunning food. We had the 3 course dinner. The servings looked smaller but we were stuffed by the end of it. Highly recommended the fish of the day and the Angus tartare. Food was also beautiful to look at and servers knew exactly what wine to match the plates. I very much recommend this place for a nice dinner, we were seated outside and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

A lovely place for dining with a three course $75 or two course $65 menu to choose from seasonal dishes that have an Australian Pacific style and high class bistro style. The wine list offers style and substance but be prepared for pre dinner drinks and two bottles of wine for 4-6 to double the bill. The menu offers opportunity for dish matching with some share plates/sides. A great restaurant to bring colleagues or a group of friends.

Overall very satisfying meal, we went for a dinner where they were only doing their set menu which was a bit unexpected and ended up being quite a bit more expensive than planned. I understand that they generally do also offer a la carte, and that there are also lunch specials. In terms of the set menu, I think they had a good variety of options, and almost everything was very appealing to me. The kingfish carpaccio was light and subtle, and the spring salad my friend had was lovely, the mix of citrus and cheese which I thought was an unexpected pairing was actually very well done. For the mains, the duck was perfectly cooked, as was the zucchini flower which still had some bite to it. My friend's steak was enjoyable, but I think not nearly as nice as the duck. For dessert, the chocolate mousse with salted chocolate sauce and olive oil was probably a bit much - it was a bit too rich, a bit too salty, and while a few mouthfuls were lovely it was actually quite hard to finish. The pavlova was a much more balanced dessert, not too sweet or too tart. The location is nice, it was busy in that quiet hum kind of way, not a bustling way. I think calling this a diner is probably a bit of a misleading name! The staff were friendly, and the courses were served at a reasonable pace. I was a bit put off by being asked for a tip at the till on a $200 bill, and I hope this doesn't become standard practice in Australia.

Went here for a casual dinner with a work colleague and the host and the food were sublime. Haven't had great food like that for so very long. Great menu and impeccable service. From the moment we arrived it was such a wonderful night. Thank you

We went here with friends to celebrate a birthday, absolutely amazing. Everyone loved everything on the menu, the service is incredible and the restaurant ambience is lovely. Emma seated us and gave impeccable service - 5 stars in every way , highly recommend a meal here, if you are thinking about it just book it in! We are already planning our next meal!
Glenn Larner
The service was great but they really need a minimal standard of food quality. The gnocchi with mushrooms was like tasteless sludge with no definition. I would advise new chefs because the ambience is quite nice.

Second time dining here, tonight we walked in for an early dinner, and everything they serve is just so on point. We had the 2 course menu; potato scallops w sour cream & roe (would love an option here for extra roe as an add-on to balance out a bit more), pate w onion jam (which is ridiculously good), pasta w broccoli purée & Italian sausage (very good), pork cutlet with pickles (very very good) and finally, the house salad (which is just perfect). Wine recommendations were perfectly matched, and the service so lovely, honest and friendly. It was a quiet rainy Wednesday night, dining early, but this is truly one of the best neighbourhood bistros for their food in Glebe/Dale. Can’t wait to be back again.

Lovely spot serving good food. The sommelier was excellent and some dishes were very good but couldn't say the menu was flawless overall. Feels a bit like they could shoot for a slightly simpler, more down-to-Earth offering and they could really hit a bullseye, but at present it doesn't perfectly hit the mark.

Wow. Just wow. We have been fans of GPD for some years, but whatever has changed with Alex taking over the reins again has taken GPD from great to next level WOW. The essence of GPD hasn't changed, but it has stepped up another notch to deliver meals and an experience that is just so much better than what was already really good. Kurobota pork rack with pear puree and duck fat parsnips and black & white cabbage. Mind-blowingly delicious - can't find the words to describe the flavours and textures and just how great it was. Duck that fell from the bone and melted in your mouth. Preceded by entrees that set us up for a stand-out experience. Burrata, crab, saltbush, walnut, umami by the bucketload. Beef tartare that stands up against the best Paris can offer (we were there 3 weeks prior, so have a good reference point). And just when you think it's as good as it gets - wine to blow you mind. Alex was offering a couple of wines from the cellar, and we chose a velvet-smooth 2000 Talbot's Shiraz Cab from Mudgee, on recommendation (and tasting) from the always-amazing Jasmine. As our Talbots reached a beautiful smooth conclusion, a (complimentary and very generous) tasting of a Bannockburn Serre 2005b Pinot Noir. Next-level smooth and a wine I have never (and will likely never again) get to experience. I used to love Glebe Point Diner. Whatever the next level above that is, I'm doing it right now. An absolutely faultless night and i literally can not wait to come back again. To Alex and the entire team front and back of house - thank you and see you again real soon!

Foud this place by chance amd so glad i did. The pate was amazing and for the first time in a long time at a restraunt a perfect medium rare steak. The staff were great.

I cannot praise the staff enough for looking after us today after we turned up without a reservation. Coupled with great food and the continued wonderful service we will be back again...and again!!!!!

I can’t wait to go back to GPD, great food, drinks, dessert and ambience. A little gem In Glebe. Happy my daughter took me there for dinner.

The best little Restaurant around; my wife and I love it. Great for lunch or dinner with a combination of seafood and meats served in spectacular fashion #glebepointdiner

Had dinner here tonight, the food was good but the service was terrible! After being made to wait for almost 30 mins before being approached at our table we were told that we would have to try and rush the tasting menu if we really wanted it. We were there on time and would have been fine if we'd been attended to when we sat down. Our white wine wasn't left in an ice bucket and we had to call out to get the wait persons attention each time we needed something, including the bill. Disappointing service throughout the night, a shame as the food was nice. Likely not to return.

Glebe Point Diner, first class food at very reasonable prices, with a pleasant atmosphere.

cheeks with celeriac puree yummmmm!!! service was good, love the atmosphere. Just few options of wine by glass but they were nice options.

Excellent...friendly efficiant staff. Good selection on menu...my compliments to the chef...would go there again.

Amazing Birthday dinner! Gorgeous staff and delicious food! What a Sydney GEM!

Every visit is a treat. Keep up the good work!

Had a delicious meal here last night. The food, service and ambiance was amazing! :) Will definitely be back visiting here again soon!

Always great food based on great ingredients and cooking rather than gimmicks. Wine list is superb

Cannot be faulted - superb!!!

Professional service is what comes to my mind. Food wise it was ok. My spring chook tasted a little salty and my missus enjoyed the Darling Downs Pork but felt, like myself,it’s a bit pricey for what you get. Home cut chips tasted home made, while there was nothing wrong with our experience it’s the price that would stop us from coming back
EL
Have heard great things about this restaurant and been meaning to try for a while. The food was very nicely presented but in terms of taste it wasnt amazing especially for the price.

This is a really lovely modern Australian restaurant in Glebe. All the dishes were fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. From the entrees, I really liked the duck liver pate and the potato rosti. For mains, the scotch fillet was really well cooked and complemented well with the fried onions. I also recommend to stay for dessert because the lemon tart was really good as well. Overall, great experience and great food so I’d be happy to come back!

We visited this restaurant as part of The Glebe Tasting Treks. It was our first venue of the evening as part of our progressive dinner and it set us up well for the rest of the night. The staff were warm and hospitable.

We had a few sharing dishes off their starter menu. These included the Raw Kingfish and Fried Spencer Gulf Squid. My favourite was the Duck Liver Pate which was smooth and rich and went well on the grilled bread and smeared with the pear jam to offset the richness of the pate. Served with a glass of wine or a bottle of beer, the group were happy campers at this restaurant.

Would be great to try the other dishes off the menu as quite interesting choices.

Lai Heng took me here for lunch once, and I didn’t manage to blog it, so am glad to get an opportunity with a lovely dinner with some friends from the United World Colleges. We did the $70 banquet menu (and has some *lovely* wines with it) and thought it was a great variety and very decent-sized portions.
Hungry Vibes Only
Service was lovely but the food was a bit of a let down! Oysters were fresh and beautiful but the mains were just a bit lacking in terms of flavour.

We've been here before with 2 people and came back with 4. Ordered the set menu for 4. We were told there would be increased portions to allow for 4 diners but in the end it was exactly the same as when we dined with 2 :( we all left hungry.

Glebe Point Diner is a neighbourhood restaurant with upmarket prices. I tried their potato bites and fried snapper a couple of days ago. The snapper was overdone. There was really nothing fanciful or delightful with the food.

Wonderful food, complimented by a wonderful wine list and friendly welcoming service. We didn't have a booking on a busy Wednesday night, but all efforts were made to accommodate us. Will definitely be back. Well done Glebe Point Diner.

Probably had the best scotch fillet ever this weekend - would highly recommend it. It was well seasoned and cooked, with no gimmicks like sauces disguising the taste of the meat. Entree special rib was lovely as well.
Nikki
always great... dependably good food, service, wine and experience. have been here at least a dozen times since moving to the area, and have loved every time, with small or large groups... mid-week byo is awesome...

glebe has come a long way over the past ten years... this restaurant had a lot to do with its improvement, demonstrating the demand for suburban dining.

outdoor tables are preferable, especially in winter, when you can snuggle up under a blanket with a heater.

Stumbled into this little place quite by accident. All of the specials on the board sounded very interesting so ordering was quick and painless.
ALL of the food was quite exceptional.
I am a cook myself so am unimpressed by overpriced, simple meals. This establishment is NOT like that. For a Modern Australian restaurant, this would be very close to the top of the Sydney list for me. Simple, Elegant, unassuming and Delicious.
One gripe would be the wine prices, which were a tad on the high side... One French wine was almost a $30 mark up from the retail price... which was a bit confusing.
The service, however, was 1st class and beyond reproach.
Whether your an Inner Westie, an 'Out of Towner'... or just a Eastern Suburbanite who wants to buy amazing food at half the price (at least) of what your paying down the road... this place deserves your attention.
Will come back in summer for the outside seating. Looking forward to it!
Had the tasting menu with matching wine tonight. It was fantastic start to finish. Definitely the best value tasting menu I've had in Sydney.

Awesome lunch here today. Great service - friendly , attentive and proactive. Very good wine recommendations as well.
The entree of Brussel sprouts, broccoli with blue cheese (see photo) was out of this world good. Could eat that every day easily.
The main was 12 hour brisket on polenta. Very good, although needed to be seasoned a little more.
Overall a first class experience, love this little gem in Glebe.
Always Hungry
I love this place!! A hidden gem that not enough people know about. Have eaten there 3 times (so far) and had a great experience each time. Friendly service and quality food and drink that is hard to not keep coming back for.

Amazing food, great wine and Fantastic value! We had the sharing menu with wine and there was more food than the 2 of us could eat but we gave it a really good go. The quality of each dish was outstanding. Would definitely go back.

We were there at 5.51 for an early dinner. The servers sitting at the bar chatting told us to come back at 6pm and they would book us in for then. The decor looked nice with the tables all set ready for hungry patrons. We stood on the step for a minute whilst the servers continued chatting then decided to leave.

Been here countless times.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney,

The staff are very friendly and attentive.

Always best to sit outside if you get a chance! (Especially in those hot summer nights)

Food is moderately priced and portions are a good size.

Chilli Feli
Gorgeous food, friendly service. Bread and butter was the most moreish I've ever had. We shared a Jerusalem artichoke soup with crab meat and truffle cream to start, the earthiness from the truffles and umami of the crab offers a really interesting balance that works in harmony. My confit duck was crispy and full of flavour, it was served with a creamy chestnut puree and sharp pickled radicchio. The hapuka fish fillet was served in an Italian tomato and olive sauce with clams. To finish it off we enjoyed the gingerbread burnt Alaska, nothing short of amazing.

Great value and food. Had the sharing menu between 4 last Friday, and loved it. Enjoyed it more than a few more expensive degustation style restaurants I've tried. Friendly attentive service as well. Will come back!
Wok You Talking About
...I know many people adore the place and it’s easy to see why. Ingredients are sourced locally and fresh (some grown in the GPD’s backyard) and most of the food is organic. Also, for any north-shorers, GPD just opened in Neutral Bay in July.

It certainly has been a while since I dined at Glebe Point Diner. I first discovered this restaurant whilst running around Glebe, as we used to live around there, and thought how 'cool' this place looked. Came with 'The Mother' first, before it was famous and before it received its one hat and loved it. I loved the home, comfort cooked food, the consistency of each course and the extensive wine list. Came back later in the year with a group of friends, and from memory, they may have just received a one hat and we all had a lovely meal. Unfortunately, they lost that one hat in the 2010 Good Food Guide. Hats or no hats, I was keen to go back! I was catching up with a very dear friend, S. She lives on the other side of the Anzac Bridge, and considering the last time we met, she crossed the bridge, I thought it was time, I went to the other side. Glebe Point Diner can be found at the end of Glebe Point Road, close to the pa

one of their specials was the spiced gingerbread macaron & it tasted EXACTLY LIKE CHRISTMAS. i was so excited. also on the plate was nougat with white chocolate & pistachio plus a white chocolate with peanut gianduja thimble.

Glebe Point Diner has been on my radar for a while now, they were voted by Time Out Sydney readers as the People’s Choice, but conversely lost a hat in the 2010 Good Food Guide. It’s hard these days to know which source to trust and as always I decide to

One of my Faves. Over the years I reckon maybe 100 meals. And not one ever disappointed.

The ambiance is lovely, the outdoors seats are sublime on balmy summer nights and this seems to be the ONLY PLACE I know in Sydeny which sells decent and sensibly priced wine in half litre carafes. Why don't more places do that? Even the Diner in Neutral Bay didn't last time I went there.

Anyway, this place is good. The prices are a bit bougoise but you pay for what you get.

Hope to eat another 100 there.

Steve Winter

YUM!. Fantastic lunch was had by all when we visited last. Food is really good, good wine list too. Service is good and atmosphere is pleasant . Will continue to return time and time again.

Great menu, fantastic wine list and brilliant food. What makes this eatery outstanding is the service.

After three years in Melbourne I'm still coming to terms with the slipshod service you get in most Sydney establishments. The Glebe Point Diner is an exception.

I love everything about this place.
Matt
Surprisingly nice! We booked for our anniversary and was given a great table. The tables are close together but no annoyingly so. The we had the mozzarella and squid entrees, light and fresh. The steak and pasta were absolutely amazing, although a couple extra noodles in the pasta would have been better. The baked Alaska was as good as it gets. Overall the service was well above the menu's price point and the wine list is very good.

Great food & service. I have eaten here 3 times - lunch .& dinner. The food is excellent, service exemplary, wine list well chosen. A bonus - parking is also easier down this end of Glebe Point Road
Highly recommended.

Great food in relaxed setting. Monday night visit to the Glebe Point Diner - buzzing with not a table free - good thing we had booked. Service was courteous, attentive and efficient. The specials were explained well. The Burrata and tomato salad was heavenly, as was the snapper. The Baked Alaska was a good way to end the meal. Fresh, non fussy food. Relaxed environment. Makes for a perfect evening. Highly recommend it.

Perfect Dinner. I tipped them...that's rare. The service was probably the best I've received ever with our waiter being very accommodating to the questions we had and even gave very good suggestions in which he didn't have to. It felt like he went out of his way and that's what we all want to feel.

Having the degustation, it was worth every dollar and it is very good value. Food was cooked perfectly and we left feeling very full (the kitchen worked so efficiently and quietly!). Combine that with the service, this place is definitely my favourite fine dining restaurant in Sydney and worthy of a second return.
GlebeCats
Good food, bit pretentious and pricey though. Also the booking system with two sittings is a little inflexible.
Rosie
Fantastic. A wonderful restaurant serving wonderful food at reasonable prices with great service. Well done Glebe Point Diner.
Ralph
Tight fit. The service and food was very nice. However one gripe I have is the tables are not far apart and you can find yourself starring at the back of another patrons back toward you..

All in all a nice dining experience
Ondtooth
Hard to fault. All three courses were interesting, delicious and good value. The service was exceptional - there when you need it, responsive and knowledgeable, but not in your face. We opted to take a bottle of wine and fork out the $15 corkage, otherwise the in-house wine list is a tad excsy. Overall, on the basis of our one visit so far, the Glebe Point Diner is hard to fault.
Kiera Treloar
Love this place! It's not cheap, but for a special dinner it's worth the extra coin. The menu is always changing, but everything I have ever had here is good. The oysters are to die for. Good wine list too.
Samuel Taylor
Great food but.... ...not much else to redeem this place I am sorry to say.
The food is very good, at least an 8/10
The tables are too close together and when I arrive to an almost empty restaurant I don't expect to be seated immediately next to the only other couple in there, it's a liberty taken at my expense to make the place look busier and I don't like it and it shouldn't happen, ever.
The location is what it is, not ideal but not going to change.
And did I mention the food was very good?
DA
Faultless! Beautiful food, perfect service from our waitress.
Basil
There's no finer diner!. We got a last minute booking for dinner and were not disappointed. The staff were lovely and attentive, the dining room is stylih, chairs comfortable & bathrooms equipped with Aesop products. Also, parking, unmetered, out the front!
We had the scallops with pig tail - ok, I know this is a twist on the scallop + pigear/cheek/chirzo combo, but please, if I order a tail, I want curly! And no need to crumb, seriously, it's the same skin that we make crackling from - so it was delicious, but a bit unadventurous for the promise.
SO had the duck, quail & chicken terrine - divine. He won! A big slab, with sourdough toast, poached mini pears and quince paste. Yum!
Then I had the blue eye - perfectly cooked with lots of peas & a few clams ( a bit odd, but fashionable, meh). SO won again with the 12 hr slow roasted Berkshire pig. Generous & delish.
Should not have listened to the waiter who suggested the snake beans - should've stuck with the salad leaves. With a bottle of wine $90 each - no dessert, so possibly a bit exxy, but what price on good food and a full belly?
Bluepotato
Great atmosphere!. Walking in late on a Wednesday night, we were quite lucky to get ourselves a table. The meals were great as expected but so was the service and atmosphere. Will go back.

Very consistent. I love this restaurant, always efficient friendly service and the food is delicious>>
specials change on a regular basis and i like that they reflect local and whats in season>>
i have eaten here on a regular basis for three years and highly recommend....outside tables are great you can view the glebe locals always very colorful..

Good but a bit pricey. Def worth visiting!

WENT HOME HAPPY (Not just because of the wine). Have eaten at GPD three times, every occasion was a delight. The sofa seats on the front 'balcony' are the perfect spot to drink the excellent wine on offer and appreciate the wonderful dishes of which you cannot help but offer a small sample to your dining companion(s). Would be my first choice in Glebe for a romantic dinner - but i actually took my parents on the last occasion and they loved it !
Chris
Never got to eat anything, sat for half an hour while we were studiously ignored, then left. Appalling service and will never go back.
Tony Jans
Nice atomosphere. Food was very average and way over priced. I had the steak, it was very fatty and over cooked. Tries to be an up market restuarant but is not.
Sally Doran
Awesome food and service. The blue eyed cod was cooked to perfection. Great wine list as well.
Paul
Awesome is all I can say. Friendly service, great wine and the food was an unexpected surprise. Fantastic! A new favorite
