After going to Japan, I feel this is quite expensive for the portion size.
Wagyu soy milk hotpot:
- Taste 4/5
- Value 3/5
Wagyu yakiniku don:

- Value 3/5
Lovely dining experience with family here. Price point reasonable for a more formal Japanese dining, enough options to choose from, great tasting food and service. The place is busy so it can get noisy during dinner time. Make sure to book in advance and arrive on time, they only let you in once everyone is there.
Really great and definitely worth the price. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious. Ordered the una don, soy milk sukiyaki and mixed toji teikoshu. Everything came out pretty quick, staff were super nice and service using ipads was quick and effective. Would definitely come back.
I came here on a Friday evening to try the wagyu beef teishoku. It was a generous platter of food and was delicious. My favourite part was the udon noodles that were very chewy. I would come back here again. It was my first time ordering from a screen. You even had to order free water by adding it to your cart. It was a very efficient system that was user friendly.

Second time visit to Yayoi. Good food good service. Thoroughly recommended. Ordering style very millennial. .
Tasty and massive portions. Great location in the CBD for a quick meal. Would recommend.

Love the electronic ordering system, flicking off the tablet reminds me of a time long ago when I was single and would be swiping a multitude of dating apps…. Fine memories indeed. Back to the review, love the vibe of the place busy and filled with heaps of energy I thought the pricing was of the menu was quite good for Auckland CBD standards. We ordered the Pork Katsu and the Wagu Sukiyaki
The Japanese food in Sydney is at a completely different level to those in Auckland, the difference using a Basketball analogy would be like the NBA vs the NBA G-League. The Wagu Sukiyaki, the strips of wagu had such intense flavour, every time you felt like you would get used to it the juiciness and richness of the wagu meat would give my mouth a mini-orgasim……… Great place and looking forward to coming back when I’m back here for work!
Showstopper: Wagu Sukiyaki
Overall Grade: A
Service was very nice. We were seated in the communal both which is fine. The electronic ordering system was fine. No issues with navigation and ordering. Food delivery time was good. The menu itself was different from what you would normally see at a Japanese restaurant so this was very refreshing.
Great value and ambience for a quick Japanese lunch in the centre of the city. Had to wait for a bit to get a seat but tables were well separated from each other, ensuring privacy which was nicely uncommon for such price level. Teishoku is an ideal choice of nutritious lunch, had the chicken teriyaki and it was cooked to perfection. Pickles, onsen tamago and the seasoned vegetables on the side were nice little surprises. Will definitely visit again for the famous unagi. The only thing was, we weren’t sure if there was self-served water since most orders were processed through the tablets on each table. We only got to have a glass of water after we asked, while paying. Staff was friendly but this was certainly something that a restaurant can improve on.
The thing that I like about this place is seating at the corner while eating and enjoying their truly amazing and comfort dish. Highly recommended!
CHICKEN NAMBAN TEISHOKU ($19.80) - I just wondering that is it chicken namban or chicken nanban? Still a big question mark for me. Anyway, chicken namban is a deep-fried chicken meat that soaked in sweet and sour Namban sauce and topped with tartar sauce. I love to eat karaage but chicken namban is another level for me. That crunchy texture karaage combine with creamy sweet tartar – what a holy moly dish! But, I think Yayoi in Singapore still serve the best chicken namban. (9/10)
UNAGI HITSUMABUSHI TEISHOKU ($27) - It's perfectly grilled with a crispier texture. And that unagi itself has rich and fatty flavour. Love the unagi that served sweet not salty like in my home country. I choose the hitsumabushi because it was raining heavily outside so just want to eat this yummy unagi with a hot broth. Not a big fan of unagi but their one is great! (8/10)
PORK LOIN KATSU – TOJI ($18.30) - This is fried pork with eggs, one of the most popular ways of pork eaten Japanese style and as a pork+runny egg lover, this dish is perfect for me. Love their sweetness and right amount of salty in this dish. One of the best and worth it pork katsu toji is YAYOI. And their cooking always consistent each and every year . Love it! (9/10)
