Still very happy with the food, everything except maybe the mango pancake seemed top notch dim sum. The prices are high enough to demand it though (put it a bit below Din Tai Fung for quality and price) and the harassment of the cart ladies was really irritating, especially as they didn't have the range that they used to (both might be due to the current conditions).
Yum cha in Sydney
This is a great spot to have yum cha in Sydney. The servers were friendly and the dishes were all lovely - although we did have a bit of trouble with the dumpling skins. The dumplings seemed to stick to each other and to the bottom of the steamer so you couldn't get them out of the steamer without breaking them. It's very reasonably priced by Sydney standards and I would certainly be happy to bring my fussy Malaysian-Chinese mum here!!

Yum Cha on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch is hard to beat. There’s something about this grazing style of eating that just seems right. Marigold sits in the Haymarket/Chinatown district and spreads out over two floors. To say it’s big is an understatement. The trolleys for yum cha come regularly and there is plenty to choose from.
Stopped by for lunch on a quick work trip. Was craving authentic dishes, and Marigold did not disappoint. Each of the dishes were tasty and fresh. The zhaliang was the definite winner. Service was efficient and polite.
I dined here for a work team lunch. We had quite a large group but that didn't impact on the consistent service. There was always plenty of food available and a decent variety. My favourite dishes were the prawn dumplings and the braised chicken. Would recommend visiting in a large group to save more per person as most dishes are designed to share. The restaurant itself is quite large and at the time we visited, it was only at half capacity. Conveniently located in Haymarket.
Absolutely amazing. Cosy, well-mannered staffs, and delicious food! This is, by the way, not easy entry level of restaurant. This is indeed the occasional luxurious place to go. I went there with my colleagues and we ended up paying over $300. It was satisfying so no complaint.
The dishes were absolutely amazing! Even though Marigold is on the expensive side, the food lives up to its standards. Highlight was definitely the mango pancake. It had a big piece of super sweet mango and not too much cream which was the perfect combination.
Whilst Melbourne is not short of yum cha venues, I always look forward to the Marigold yum cha when I visit Sydney. I love that it opens at 10am, and the enthusiasm of the ladies trying to entice you to choose the dishes from their trolley! Chiu Chow dumplings are particularly good, as are the spring rolls and the egg tarts.

Yummy dimsums! 😋❤️😋 Though you gotta ask around for what u want to come to your table (if they are really busy though). I personally love their Lo Mai Gai so much!
Marigold is an institution in Chinatown, the Mecca of Sydney yum cha scene. It is packed out every weekend. No exceptions on this Sunday lunchtime. My friends got there just in time to get one of the remaining tables so we didn't have to wait. It was a bit cramped jammed right by the wall, with trolleys squeezing pass us and the opposite tables. Aside from this, service was prompt, lots of different trolleys & variety of food came past. We had a number of the yum cha favourites, har gows, egg tarts, steamed rice rolls, tripes, pork ribs & congee. Quality were all pretty good, which is the reason this place remains busy every weekend.
What an amazing Chinese restaurant! Fast and friendly service, delicious food, huge portions.
So sorry to hear its closing its doors forever in 2 weeks, glad we got our last meal in as booked solid now until closing day.
Special mention to Manager Kenny for his great attitude!
Took the chance to try them out before they close down (for good) on 5 December. Theyre only allotting 1hr per group, and I suggest coming in first thing when they open up to avoid the crowd.
I missed yum cha and this was actually a change after months in lockdown.
I really loved the siumai and the honey glazed pork was the winner for this meal! We also ordered the cantonese fried rice, which I dont recommend btw as it’s too dry and bland.
But other than that, everything hit the spot.
We absolutely love this iconic yum cha and will miss it!!! The delicate flavours are spot on with the necessary cacophony of a yum cha busyness! Glad we managed to savour these today
Update - sadly Marigold has announced its closing its doors are 39 years. Went for one last hoorah with a friend. Sad to see a place like this go, we’ll miss you! 😞
This is my fav yum cha in Sydney! The atmosphere, the food, it’s all good! There is a lot of variety on the menu from dumplings to noodles to duck and pork dishes, greens and desserts. The carts come by in a steady stream. Favs include the steam pork buns, prawn dumplings, bbq pork, salt and pepper squid, greens, scallop dumplings and the veg dumplings. They’re all yummy washed down with green tea. The only thing I would change is putting back Diet Coke and on the menu - they only serve Coke Zero now
Yum cha is on the fourth floor in the Marigold building, lifts are next to the escalator. Entrance to building on George Street and Thomas Street. Parking across the street at Haymarket under Paddy’s Market and also the Capitol Theatre 🥟

First of all I was very impressed with their customer service. starting from booking table to arriving at the restaurant and all the way through table service, every step the customer service was excellent. Staff were friendly, attentive and have good sense of humour. It is very COVID safe. They provided two pairs of chopsticks for each one of us so that we don't cross contaminate the food. The tables are spaced out very nicely and I felt comfortable dining there. The food is nice and reasonably priced. They also gave us complementary fruits and desserts. I wouldn't say it's the best food I have ever had but I would definitely go back for the overall experience.
I missed yum cha so much! Delicious food and great service. It wasn’t very busy when we went so there was heaps and space and very covid safe. There was a guy checking for our covid certificates before we were allowed upstairs. 👌
We arrived at around 11.30 on a Saturday but this place was packed!! The food trolleys were on stroll all the time and there were a variety of yum cha dishes to choose from. One thing I can say that this place has some dishes that I’ve never seen at any other yum cha places. The aunties were quite friendly but spoke broken English - still understandable though.
The only negative was we were told to finish in about 1 hour because they were too many customers waiting and the trolleys were coming at long intervals for our table so wasn’t sure what happened.
P.s: I went for the 2nd time after hearing the news that they will be gone for good… Some Sydneysiders will definitely miss this place! Goodbye 👋🏼
