Sometimes, service is senior to the product, and The Dough Collective justifies that statement. Located on the bustling George street, this small artisan bakery offers a unique combination of sophistication and takeaway bread; it's not often that you see these two things together, especially in Sydney. From the flaky Pain au Chocolat to the airy Parmesan garlic bread, everything at this place is simple and light yet perfect for breakfast. The coffee doesn't disappoint either; the flat whites and the lattes make their way out of the shop every minute, and the different types of bread complement the coffee beautifully.

Coming back to my primary statement about the service being better than the product - Yes, while the product is fine, the service makes me want to go to this place repeatedly. The staff greets you with a big smile, and for me personally, there is always an anticipation from their side of what I am about to order. Such service creates loyalty; no wonder most people in Town Hall grab their breakfast from The Dough Collective every morning.

Overall, the ratings would be -

Food - 7/10
Ambience - 7/10
Service - 9/10
Value for money - 7/10

A really cozy bakery selling artisan bread that has many unique and adventurous Flavours!
The chocolate filling in their chocolate based breads are chunky pieces of chocolates that melt in your mouth (: The texture of the breads are soft, light and fluffy - pairs really well with the flavourful, dense fillings like red beans, cream cheese, chocolate fillings.

Would definitely want to try their azuki loaf next!

Used to be one of my favourite bread shop in the city. The bread is made of great ingredients that when you eat it, you can smell and taste the aromatic flavour of the flour, etc.
They also have tasting samples for most of the bread so you can decide which one you like.
I always get the chocolate ones because they are just simply amazing.
Not too pricey.

Attempting to marry asian and european style bread produces something quite unique. Using quality ingredients, careful baking techniques and coming up with a vast creative menu further differentiate this bread (and coffee) shop among others such as 99, breadtop on 1 hand, artisan euro bakeries on the other n our neighbourhood bread shop on the (3rd?😁) hand.

Trad almond croissant was generous with its filling. The lychee multi grain was quite unexpected, there wasnt many lychees inside though. I have never come across a combo as such, worth a try if you havent. Their coffee bread tasted different from asian style coffee bread which is normally fluffy soft n has a heavier coffee aroma.

They have multiple arrays of offerings. I'll be back to sample more.

The dough collective is a great place to grab artisan breads at an affordable price. We come here regularly and are never disappointed. Our personal favourites are the Kimchi cream cheese bread and Dark Horse.

I love soft bread and cream cheese so this place is definitely one of my favourite bakeries in Sydney. My favourites are the sweet potato and cream cheese and all the matcha breads ahahaha (matcha surprise, matcha infinity, etc). You can also sample the bread before you buy. I also like how conveniently this place is located near Town Hall station so I can always grab something yummy while on the go.

Artisan Asian bakery, they're kind of in between the typical western style Asian bakery & a standard western bakery. The bread are never plain, sweet or savoury, with interesting combo of fillings in the dough. I mostly prefer the sweet offers, particularly the chocolate or mocha offers. This time I got a matcha loaf, which had a good matcha flavour through the bread, the sweet crumb coating on top provided the sweetness, overall it wasn't too sweet & texture was quite soft. The only downside I find with their selection in general is the size, there's not much selection for individual buns, a typical piece is at least 2-3 serving size, the matcha loaf was about 4-5.

I lost count how many times I walked pass this bakery after work and turned down the free samples being handed out on a tray.  It didn't entice me because I knew Asian breads were usually very sweet and it didn't float my boat.  This perception was all changed one day when I was terribly hungry and accepted the free sample, which was a chocolate flavoured bread.  It was actually very nice I thought myself.  Driven by the hunger I walked inside the store for the first time and I certainly didn't disappoint. All the breads have free tasting plate so you can try before you buy. What a great marketing tool to entice customers. After trying a few, the stand out for me is the garlic Baguette. It is aromatic and chewy.  I really like the mocha walnut as well which tastes really nutty and cocoa.  Price wise it isn't the cheapest bakery but it is still acceptable.  Both breads I got were fresh and kept well for the next couple of days. I also tried red bean danish and cream cheese "the crown", one is sweet and the other is savoury. They bring out new menu items regularly so I will be back and try more varieties.

If you sick of having normal sourdough, loaf and pastry, this place is where you should come. They serve a huge varieties of delicious bread, buns, loaf, sourdough and pastry. The great thing is they do have samples placed in front of most bread for trying. Although the bread come with a high price tag, they do have deals like half price item of the month and 3 minis bread for 10$. Certainly, the quality and the love from the baker is there. My favourite is the grain sourdough with lychee, the gangnam dough which has kimchi cream cheese filling and the matcha loaf.

Great place to pick up a quick snack or two. Have always enjoyed the baked goods from here and always makes for a convenient and fairly inexpensive place to pick up buns for lunch when in a rush. Just a Chocolate Surprise chosen this time.

FREEESSSSSHHHH BAKEDDDDDDD BREADDDDDDDDD I'm going to claim I've been coming here since day one of their grand opening celebration but what's taken me so long to write a review is beyond me. Regardless, you need to check this place out! Freshly baked bread of all sorts prepared daily. There are even samples you can try before you buy. If you're looking to get the biggest bang for you buck, they have day-old scones in packs of three for about $3.. Oh! There's coffee too if you're into stuff like that... My favorites: Dark Horse - Belgian dark chocolate chips, NUTELLA and cream cheese Choc-nana - Fresh Bananas, Belgian dark chocolate chips and cream cheese

Amazing selection of yummy bread, the only issue is that they insist in packing each bread in a separated plastic bag, not very environmental friendly option.
