The soba here is handmade inhouse everyday, make sure you try them!
I loved my cold oroshi soba, noodle is very aldente, fragrant with buckwheat and the grated daikon is fresh.
The chicken mushroom soup soba is warming and perfect for winter. The seafood okonomiyaki is filling, generous with toppings and delicious.
Everything is amazing, we will be back!
Loved the experience! Luckily, we came as a party of two and managed to get a spot at the bar since we didn’t have a booking. It was awesome watching them make the food right in front of you. Prices are quite steep though.
There are many reasons to love this place - the gyoza is exceptional, the scallops are delightful, the soba noodles are delicious..... but the best thing they do here is the miso. Made from scratch, delicately smokey and absolutely delightful - I cannot have miso from any other place now, they have spoiled me!
Super authentic restaurant that offers freshly made soba and warm service. The soba is very fragrant and well balanced with a soup that has strong bonito flavours, and the duck was cooked perfectly. We also ordered sushi, egg rolls, tempura, walnut soba that had a sweet and rich soup, as well as the special okonomiyaki. Egg rolls were excellent, okonomiyaki had quite a lot of leek and was a bit salty, so I’d recommend adding mochi or noodles. Sushi and tempura were fresh but slightly overpriced for just a small amount, but still worth trying.
The biggest letdown was that they don’t offer a dessert menu- even something simple like matcha ice cream or fruit would’ve made a great difference to the dining experience, please consider.
What a very authentic japanese restaurant in North Sydney! The place, the ambience, the food, everything was very japanese! And FYI they make the soba from scratch!!! Not many japan restaurant make that from scratch, because it takes a very long time & very hard to do it. That’s why it makes this restaurant special. We ordered the famous okonomiyaki, prawn & pork gyoza, fried soba, cold soba with walnut soup, and cold soba with tempura. They were all tasted fantastic! The price were also reasonable. Definitely will come back.
Overall a satisfying experience! The tempura soba was authentic, however we would have loved the portion size of its tempura to be bigger for its price.
What I discovered about this place is ... there is a Japanese restaurant on almost every street corner. If there is that much competition, I’d gladly assume that the food standard would have to be good. Well... if you’re after top notch Japanese eatery, this suburb will do you justice. This place hand makes their own soba noodles and that makes all of the difference.
The portions are typically Japanese... small. Don’t be deceived by the portion size, it fills you up just nicely.
The food preparation is so thoughtful, everything cooked to perfection.
What we ordered: the Okonomiyaki deluxe with the king prawns on top. Hot soba with tempura and a deluxe lunch special.
At the time, we wished we had a stretchy stomach. Ordered more than we could eat! Got a tad greedy.
This place isn’t cheap or overly expensive but priced according to effort and what they ask for is well worth it. The Okonomiyaki was around $22 or so and their soba noodles as well.
At the end of the day at this restaurant, you sincerely get what you pay for.
Our new favourite Japanese place.
We only visit for lunch, the lunch box selections are great value. All freshly cooked, service is good too.
The atmosphere is beautiful, I am not sure for dinner as this place seems quite popular.
Not like other Japanese, no loud greeting, rough/casual communication here.
I felt like eating in Japan, quiet, relax place and decent flavour (not westernised at all).
Only one criticism for my meal is, tempura on tendon was a bit too soggy. I know sauce was on top so it won’t stay crispy. But whole prawn tempura was soaked, no crispness left from the first bite straight after serving.
We will be back here soon.
I searched on the internet for the best okinomiyaki in Sydney and came upon Jugemu. Whilst it wasnt the same as what we had in Osaka, it was very nice and filling. Each pancake was quite thick and filled with fresh seafood and cabbage, topped with delicious sauce. It did take more than half an hour to come out though so be prepared to wait esp at peak time.
I had a great experience here. I had ordered two separate soba dishes to share with the girlfriend. I was pleased to find that the serving for each of the dishes we ordered was nicely split in two. The decor and customer service of the place was also fantastic. Our dessert was also split into separate servings. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the service. Would recommend.
Jugemu okonomiyaki is one of the best Japanese pancakes I’ve had as the crispy outer layer and juicy pancake envelopes seafood, well balanced flavours and this was a treat to be served by well trained staff. The freshly made soba with walnut and Japanese mushrooms combines amazing flavours and fresh ingredients to provide a stellar dining experience. The yuzu flavoured paired drink was enjoyable and crisp
Wonderful staff and food. The soba. Loved the matcha snowball! Will definitely come back. Do make a booking early since you may miss out if you don’t have one.
Really enjoyed the food and loved the simple japanese style decor. The tempura was one of the best I have tried in Sydney, and the okonomiyaki was very luxurious with lots of seafood. Hard to find a server at times, but otherwise they were very friendly and even helped us to split our soba noodles into two bowls for sharing which was a really nice touch.
Really good service. Authentic Japanese food, particularly their soba which is made on premises on the day. They also have authentic okinomiyaki - Japanese savoury pancakes with various toppings. Prices are fair, and the quality of the food justifies it.

Cute little Japanese restaurant on Military Rd in Neutral Bay. I was working in Neutral Bay and saw they did Miso Cod so had to get it even if it was takeaway. Such a foodie thing to do! Did not disappoint, this is my favourite all-time dish.
My recommendation;;
Saikyo Miso Cod - grilled Patagonian toothfish marinated in saikyo miso - juicy and flavourful $22
Jugemu & Shimbashi is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Neutral Bay. Everything is always delicious. Only wish would be for Takoyaki to be on the menu!!!
Honestly probably the best Japanese food I've experienced in Australia yet. It felt like eating in Japan. My only regret was not having eaten more. It was DELICIOUS!
My faves from the night were the handmade and homemade soba noodles, the tempura and the blue fin tuna sashimi!
Great Japanese food. Online booking was not great, had to call the store to book. Slightly larger portions would have made it 5 stars.
