Yachiyo Japanese Bistro, Darlinghurst🍛
First time visiting Yachiyo Japanese Bistro, located in Darlinghurst near King Cross Station.
Excellent choice of food, great umami and originality from each dish. The chef is Japanese origin knowing the proper technique & knowing how to serve each dish.
Their signature Scallop Gyoza is a must try!
The service is a bit slow due to small team, perfect place for dates, after work & family diner.
However at the end of the service the head chef gave me free dessert (crunchy matcha) as a apologize. Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The food and service were both great. Really rate this place. The ambience was on point with a dimly lit cosy restaurant. We had everything from sushi to miso grilled pork. Highlights was the fresh tuna and salmon Toro, cauliflower bites and the rockmelon mochi.
Service was lovely, she was attentive and took care of us.
Overall great experience, will definitely be back.
This is my favourite place to have lunch because it is delicious and great value. My favourite dishes are the udon noodles with chicken katsu and the sushi and sashimi boat. Staff here are also lovely.
Never failed every time coming here, one of the best japanese restaurant around sydney. Go for their “me so hungry” option, the chef will cook you their favorite dishes & take sip on their sake
Their sashimi was so damn fresh that they had a hint of sweetness to them! The sushi boat was $23 dollars accompanied by agashi tofu, steamed egg and miso soup. Would definately recommend :)
Nice little joint at King's Cross, a bit hectic when it's full, it was so loud that we thought the special of the day was salad with sashimi but the fish was actually pan seared and the table next to us never got their spicy tuna roll until they asked the waitress and realised that she forgot to put it in the system. Flavour wise, some of the dishes can be a bit too salty, like the wasabi rice in beef tataki, and the broth for pork rib. I could be wrong as some would call it perfect seasoning but it was a bit too much for me.
I went to here with my friend at 20 o'clock 19th September.
We ate Sashimi, agedashidofu, edamame and scallop.
We also drunk sake.
It's really nice taste!!
Go to Japanese in the East. Delicious food, good atmosphere and near transport. The karage is particularly good and the agadashi tofu. Would recommend for friends, first dates etc. Good idea to book as gets busy.
Overall very pleasant casual dining experience. Run by Japanese there is a mix of traditional Japanese cuisine dishes like sushi, sashimi, tempura plus some fusion like scallop & mushroom risotto. They have the usual menu plus changing blackboard specials. Very wide variety of dishes! Their sushi & sashimi was very fresh and the sushi rice was perfect. Also had the yuzu marinated tuna which was a nice subtle and distinct flavour. Their miso & wasabi salmon popcorn was also fried perfectly with a great balance of seasoning. Their home made sushi soy sauce was nice and thick although a bit too sweet for my liking. Liked how the place was busy but not too packed and didn't make us have a fixed slot to dine (unlike a lot of other popular places), so it's perfect for a group of friends or a romantic date where you can slowly order and eat over wine, beer or sake. It's an authentic, cute little jap eatery. Highly recommend!
A new friend of mine suggested we go out to Sushi Yachiyo, having had good experiences there in the past. I haven't had a good Japanese meal in a while, so I eagerly jumped at the opportunity.
Though it is clearly a known commodity, my first impression was that it had a bit of a quaint, 'hole-in-the-wall' vibe. You could definitely imagine encountering this sort of place if you were to go wandering through the back alleys of a Japanese city! We arrived at 6:30pm with a booking, and were seated immediately. It quickly became very busy, so if you're planning on going, booking ahead would be wise! The service was fast and attentive throughout the evening (allowing for reasonable constraints as it became busier), and I can recommend the service aspect of the experience, overall.
The style of food served at Sushi Yachiyo focuses on small plates (essentially, tapas - Japanese style). In all honesty, we didn't even look at the menus, as we were content in ordering items from the large blackboard wall. In short, the food was excellent - especially the seafood. The tuna belly, salmon belly and carpaccio were incredibly fresh and tasty, and absolutely melted in your mouth! The scallop bowl was a crispy, salty delight, and heavily contrasted with the scallop sashimi, which was a bit more adventurous, but still delicious. The salmon skewers and pork belly were also both very good, if not quite as impressive as the dishes aforementioned. The chocolate dessert was somewhat of a novelty - though it looked like ice cream, it had a texture somewhere between a brownie and fudge. I personally found it very tasty, but if you're not a sweet-tooth, you might find it a bit sickly. Holistically, the food was of extremely high quality, and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
The sake tasting experience was also highly enjoyable - ask the manager (owner?) and he will tell you that they have a few dozen sake varieties. He will pick three, give everyone at the table a small taste of each (out of a small shot glass), and then you can pick which one you prefer to have in a small jug. This was a really good way of trying quite a few different sake varieties (the two of us tried nine different sakes/shared three jugs between us)... a word for the wise, however - there is no such thing as a dessert sake - chocolate and sake are two flavours that were never meant to meet... but that's all on me!
Overall, if you're looking for tasty and authentic Japanese food, Sushi Yachiyo will effectively satiate your appetite.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food has always been great! I came back here from time to time and quality have never dropped. Recently, booked for a group of 7 and ordered the Me so hungry set. Very generous portion. Good food and good value for money.
Just crave Japanese food so without any expectations we came to this restaurant which has really reviews on google and I wish I can give MORE THAN 5 STARS because the food and the value is just so good especially if you come during lunch like us. We got the chicken karaage and tempura gosens and both are so delicious, really good balance and the ambience is really comfortable, just look at the photos! Highly recommended!
Yachiyo is a good place to go when you're craving for something Japanese and can't decide what to get. They have the "me so hungry" tasting menu that will surely satisfy your Nippon urge. My a la carte staples are their Popcorn Shrimp, Pork Katsu Bun and their Sashimi Selection. Their grilled meats are good but a bit gingery for some so if you're not a fan of ginger then prolly skip their pork belly skewer.
Cool fact about Yachiyo: One more thing I love about this restaurant is their automated toilets. Smart toilets are common in Japan but something that you don't see often in Sydney restaurants this size. No need to touch the seats and flush because it's all automated. So cool, sanitary and so Japanese!
Probably the best value omakase in town these days! Have been craving for omakase for a while, and yachiyo is never a disappointment.
Went there last year with a group of friends and the experience has been amazing. Coming back again this year with another group, which turns out even better.
Price point is reasonable with great value! Good with the premium omakase this time and all the sushi are super fresh and rice texture is just perfect on point! The other dishes in between prawn, abalone, oyster soup, black miso cod, zucchini flower, they match well with the flow of the course. It helps cleanse your palette but also keep you excited throughout the course.
Chef micchan san is super fun as well! We had quite a bit of chat throughout the meal and stayed back for more drinks with him. His vision about omakase and the food industry is so bright which makes him proud of what he does. He is a very genuine chef which aims to bring quality food and Great experience to customers and not jsut focusing about the profit. It is hard to find omakase less than $150 in Sydney these days! Would highly recommend to anyone and can’t wait to go back !
Amazing culinary experience. Thank you to all the chefs and cooks and staff. We sat at the kitchen bar and could watch them make the food and serve it straight to us which was great. The chefs explained each sushi item in the $80 set menu “okasame”
Was plenty of food and all tasted delicious.
+ they have Toto toilets!! ❤️❤️
Delicious food! So cheap and the portion is massive! Highly recommend!
One negative feedback, the table is never cleaned after the customers leave the table after eating! Maybe clean up the table once someone leave will leave a better impression and hygiene.
Had the Omakase for Lunch. Everything was so yummy and worth more than what we paid!
