I've always loved Made in Italy as they hold the bar pretty high for me in terms of classic Italian so it was great to visit its latest inception, 'Next Door'. Great 90s tracks set the atmosphere, a fully equipped bar to warm up the pallette before a night of pizza and pasta.
Cocktails:
MADE AT YORK LANE - apricot, citrus and rosemary infused Bombay Sapphire is deadly. It's the kind of cocktail that will creep on you where you end up dancing on top of the tables.
GIRL NEXT DOOR - has the same nice peachey colour except is Bacardi with Watermelon, and Cucumber weaved through. Perfect choices for summer nights with a nice freshness to them.
Mains:
We had the MAMA MIA with gnocchi - it's italian sausage with cream, chilli and napoletana sauce. I actually prefer my pastas with a bit of heat and really enjoyed this.
The CARBONARA is the classic comfort dish and is done well here. - creamy pearly sauce with smoky bacon mixed through in an aldente pasta - so good.
The GAMBERI pizza with prawn, oregano, chilli flakes was awesome, nice crust and nice combination of flavours singing through each slice.
Great service from our host Mauritzio, excellent wait times from ordering and top quality food.
Holy moly this is probably my most favourite pizza place so far.. loving the thin crust and jam packed flavour in every pasta. The lasagna was probably one of the creamiest and smoothest I’ve ever had. I always forget to take a photo here!! The food distracts me when it comes out..
Next door is a really cute little nook that is literally next door to 'Made in Italy'. If I am not mistaken they serve the same pizzas from there!
I really enjoyed the pizzas we ordered which included the magherita, tricolore, gamberi, contadina, and the calabrese. I loved the hints of heat on the gamberi, and the way that the flavours from the sausage was able to shine on the calabrese. The thin crust, and generous toppings really made the pizzas great - seriously there wasn't much crust at all. Personally I loved the tricolore, gamberi and calabrese! The happy hour is so so so worth it as well with $10 medium pizzas. Service was wonderful and the staff had good banter with us too :) Definitely recommend for a cheap but seriously tasty bite in the city.
