Best staff! Best food! Best atmosphere, honestly gets better every time I go
It seems to be vegan month here at andyville. My pal Cameron decided to drop by the ‘hood for dinner, and after seeing the Netflix documentary, The Game Changers, by James Cameron, has been vegan for a month. I wasn’t sure where to take him (though Yulli’s on Crown Street is always a good bet). So, Google then tells me that Bad Hombres, which I went to over 2.5 years ago, is now a vegan restaurant!
I’d noticed it, still going strong, whenever I walked down that way, past my gym at Anytime Fitness. My experience before, as you can still read below, was mediocre. I liked the idea, but it just wasn’t comfortable. So, it was great to be able to completely revise my opinion (and my blog-review). Tonight’s meal was delicious, with great service and a good atmosphere.
The thing is: I think it’s a great idea for the planet for all of us to eat less meat. And in order to do that, restaurants are going to need to serve delicious food so that people are eating vegan food for pleasure rather than being virtuous. And Bad Hombres is accomplishing that mission quite nicely.
Crispy eggplant tacos with small diced pieces of pineapple and a squeeze of lime was all kinds of excellent in terms of a flavour and texture combo. Really delicious. The fries, with a fake cheesy sauce, were crisp and moreish. Our main was oyster mushrooms in a black bean sauce that came with tortillas. It had a beautiful smoky flavour and was a substantial serving and we were both really impressed.
Add to that an interesting wine menu (we opted for the skin-contact chardonnay) and it was a great night. It was awfully noisy when we came in (at about 8pm) but quietened down. Nice, friendly service and we even got some advice on eating vegan from our waitress at the end. The only thing that was weird was that our table was sticky. Like everywhere. I don’t think it was dirty, but the tackiness of the red paint was off-putting. Or maybe someone is telling me I shouldn’t rest my elbows and arms on the table while I eat!
(This should be a blog post instead of a review, but Zomato's platform, as usual, is malfunctioning and no amount of requests to the helpdesk is working)
This was some of the yummiest food I've had in ages - vegan/non-vegan aside. I went with a party of 10 for a birthday, and the staff were amazingly accomodating and helped us out a lot. We actually only had one vegan amongst us! But everyone absolutely loved the food. The eggplant main share plate in particular was delicious.
We had a wonderful evening, the prices are pretty reasonable, and the margaritas are excellent
I dined here on a Saturday night with a friend. We had friendly staff who served us water and menus upon being seated. We ordered a selection of dishes (which by complete coincidence ended up being the exact same as the recommended dishes above). The dishes were as follows:
- Roasted Jalapeño Guacamole With Chips ($10) : Yum, absolute yum. Very generous serving of corn chips and three sides that were flavoursome.
- Charred Corn With Japanese Mayo & Furikake ($8) : Highlight dish for me. Loved the char on the outside and the mayo and seasonings made for a great starter.
- Crispy Miso Eggplant Taco With Pineapple Salsa ($12) : I enjoyed the eggplant in this dish but wasn't a huge fan of the pineapple salsa.
- Cauliflower On Cashew Cream & Salsa Verde ($26): Delicious! Great flavour, generous portion and cooked perfectly.
Overall I enjoyed my night at Bad Hombres. I didn't feel like I was missing out because there was no meat however the prices of the larger plates seem a bit steep for a plate of vegetables. Would go again to try some of the other dishes.
I love Mexican but the problem in eating plant-based Mexican in much of Australia and the western world is CHEESE. So I was delighted to find Bad Hombres - an all-vegan Mexican food restaurant in Sydney.I chose this restaurant to come to for a business meeting with a non-vegan person. I studied the menu before going there, as I always do - it is a small menu but everything sounds unique. Not your usual taco, burrito, quesadilla-filled menu. I also wanted to know what the staff's recommendations were, which was roasted Cauliflower. So after settling in, we ordered two entrees, two mains and one side dish…. suddenly, it was a question of "can we eat this all?"

From the correspondence with booking a table and the helpful staff on the night to the amazing chef - then of course the truly delicious food (the cauliflower share plate and the nachos were THE best!) & beautiful wine to pair with it this place was superb. Highly recommended. Thank you not so Bad Hombres for turning our night around from failure to success ! Not so bad at all :)
I came here on a Tuesday evening with some friends and it wasn't too busy however we made a reservation just in case. The fit out is cozy and chilled and there's a bunch of items to choose from on the menu. I went with the veggie bowl which was delicious, filling and reasonably priced.
The only thing I didn't love was the service. It took me ages to get the attention of the waitresses to take our order and whenever we wanted to ask them something they seemed to just not hear us! Maybe they were distracted but that was the only downside of this place in my experience.
Would go back to try other menu items.
I really enjoyed this place!! I highly recommend ordering the tacos, none of the main meals really appealed to us. When I return I will order all three tacos and the guacamole and chips was really good also. The quaesadilla with sweet potato was so bland though, do not order.
I am a total carnivore but this was one of the better meals I have had in Sydney. Cauli was good and all, as was the three chili bowl but honestly the tacos are just magnificent! Vegan, interesting, and bloody delicious. Eggplant one great but the potato tacos are total winners. Also must mention the drinks - very well made Margaritas.
The best Mexican I've ever had! The cauliflower and pea tostada are amazing! I have now been twice and tried different dishes each time, and they were all really impressive. Staff are also very friendly and fun.
Great tasting food with a variety of flavours. And it's vegan friendly. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Food came out in a timely manner. What more can you ask for?

What else could you want?? This place is amazing and the Tacos are so delicious. Especially love the homage to the pineapple 🍍. Much love ❤️
Who knew a vegan Mexican place would be this good. My favourite taco was the Pastor Mushroom w/ Cashew Crema, Pico de Gallo & Pineapple. I did not miss the meat at all.
Delicious vegan mex food! Wow! So tasty. Fast service and reasonably priced.
Went there on a Tuesday night and they had 3 tacos for $10. Miso eggplant was definitely the favourite. Definitely will return!
Had a delicious meal here tonight on 3 for $10 tacos Tuesday. The loaded fries were also really good. I recommend the mushroom fysh taco and the eggplant taco too. Pleased with our dining experience ☺️
Excellent margaritas!
Drinks are affordable and the food is so delicious!
The food could be a bit better/ more affordable for what it is.
Enjoyed the desserts
The best restaurant I have ever been to, vegan or otherwise. Mouthwatering presentation, delicious food, and the portions are large. I would actually recommend either getting a few entrees/dessert OR only mains/dessert because it's very filling. Otherwise, bring a container for yummy leftovers!
