Just off Broadway along Shepherd St is La Herradura Coffee Stable, a Colombian spot in Chippendale that means arepas, empanadas and hearty meaty soups. Giddy-up. We've been eyeing off this place for some time, so when a lunch date is on offer we're in. We think the ability to share a single basket of fried plantains is a sign of true friendship, much like sharing a bowl of hot chips. These crisp slices of green  banana starch and a salsa dip always help seal the bond of mutual love of fried stuff.

Came here some time ago as I heard it was one of very few places to get real Colombian food! I was intrigued as there was not many of them in the land down under and Colombians love soup! The decor is rather basic but nice, Staff are friendly despite the fact you have to order at the counter. But I was here for the food!I ordered the Caldo de Costilla; a rich beef ribs and potato soup served with rice and avocado. I actually did not get any avocado but meh. The soup was heavenly flavoured by the fat from the ribs! Oh so comforting! Highly recommend this place!

I’m liking the explosion of Colombian cafes in Sydney and La Herradura does the best coffee from the ones that I’ve visited - very strong and rich. The food was also good but I only had snack foods - great pandebono and particularly the sweet corn arepa, great cheap snacks to go with coffee. The service is very disorganised though. The signs say pay at counter but after ordering, they launched into preparing it, leaving me standing around holding money, and even took the coffee to my table before telling me I could pay later. When I got a second round of coffees, they gave me a number and had to search for the previous order to link it. Then they forgot part of the order.

I could be biased here, but I guess it means something when you taste food from your home country and it takes you there... The ajiaco was soooo good! And it was perfect for the cold-gloomy day it was today. The 'calentado' which I will describe as the Colombian version of a fried rice was yummy.
Again... Couldn't leave the place without having dessert... And it was so worth it!
Super friendly service as well, is so nice to be asked by pretty much by everyone working there 'how was it?' And actually caring about the reply.

In a little pocket of Chippendale fast becoming a much-needed enclave of wine bars and live music, you’ll find La Herradura Coffee Stable. Opening up just four weeks ago, this tiny cafe is more than just a coffee shop.Colombian owner, Zeidy Pena, is also serving up traditional South American food. For me, this meant consuming my second lot of arepas in a month.Colombian arepas are served up here as entrees with your lunch, or at breakfast time as a substitute for banana bread. I tried a cheese Arepa ($3.50) and an even more flavoursome Sweet Corn Arepa ($3.50). I smeared them both in hogao (a Colombian tomato salsa) and an even better flavoursome chilli sauce that’s made for La Herradura by a Colombian friend. The arepas are so compelling you are going to want to say: “Line ‘em up!” Though I urge you to resist, because the main event here is even better… Soups form a huge part of Colombian cuisine, and they’re eaten as breakfast, or in huge pans for lunch or dinner with rice and vegetables on the side. Unlike Australia, where we tend to eat soup in winter, in Colombia, they’re eaten all year ‘round. I was lucky enough to try three different soups, and damned if I can choose between them. Ajiaco ($18) is a beautiful, comforting...

Nice little Columbian place, tucked away in a side street. Lunch menu is soup oriented. Friendly, attentive staff, very homely atmosphere. Close the door and you feel like you could be in South America somewhere. A bit pricy for everyday lunch.

Came here to satisfy my Tamale craving and this place didn't disappoint! It's a pretty big serving so it's best to share with one other person. Remember to ask for the hot sauce. It's got a really tangy kick that goes with the Tamal

OMG if I could give this place 10 stars I would....My partner is Colombian and has been talking about La Herradura ever since we met and we had breakfast of Sunday the 19th of February....I have has Tamales in South America during my travels but the Tamales here are the BEST I have ever had......The prices are amazing so cheap for such high quality food it's as good as any restaurant in Cali or Bogata it has a great atmosphere and the scrambled egg with chorizo is just to die for......Friendly staff too will be coming back again for Sunday breakfast this week it currently is my favourite restaurant in Sydney at the moment HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Are you looking for something different, almost Bohemian in atmosphere, by far the best coffee I have ever had and the breakfast of beans, rice, slow cooked pulled beaf, avocado, egg, spicy sausage and corn bread, was tasty, fresh and excellently executed and presented. You have to visit this place.

We ordered 4 meals and all were exquisite. Just as good, if not better than many I have had in Colombia over the years. The decor is very nice and the service is superb. Limited seating, so if more than 4, best to make a reservation. Highly recommend this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
