Wandered past this pub many a times on Missenden Road which is only a stones throw away from the RPA. It was a quiet evening and didn’t want to cook at home and dropped in. There was an abundance of seating indoors at high tops, booths and regular tables. There were also tables and chairs outside too. Menus are scattered on the tables. You’ll need to place your order and pay at the bar. Take back any drinks you’ve ordered and with any food orders, they’ll give you a number to bring it out for you. Service is pretty friendly.
I pretty hungry and eyes were bigger than my stomach so went with Home Made Spring Rolls With Duck which were served with sweet chilli sauce. They were golden and plump and were crisp. They could’ve done with a bit more draining on a paper towel as it was a tad oily. It was tasty nonetheless. I also had the Lamb Shanks. They were well cooked and the meat was melt in the mouth and falling off the bone. It was served with mash, peas, veg as well as gravy. It was a superb dish and definitely value for money.

If you’re in the inner west, and in search of a new local pub – look no further. The Alfred Hotel has been going through some changes over the past few months and with more in the pipeline, it’s going to be an exciting time for the new owners and for those local to the area. Upon arrival, our first thoughts were how cosy the Alfred felt with its open fire and relaxed attitude. One of the big changes has been bringing in new Chef Jamie Dyball, who has overhauled the menu and we couldn’t wait to be taken on his culinary journey.

The Alfred is a classic pub with a cool little outdoor courtyard. The draw card here is their chef and kitchen - which pumps out some great meals. The Alfred and their chef Jamie have taken classic pub food, reworked it and created some sensational dishes while still managing to sell it at classic pub prices. We were here for a tasting of their menu and were treated to a range of dishes. I loved the crumbed chicken thigh and blue cheese sauce, as well as the herb and parmesan gnocchi. The standout for me though was the Alfred’s surf and turf, which was created with smoky BBQ brisket and coconut crumbed prawns. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and the purée and steamed kale were great additions to the dish. If you are around on a Sunday, then the Roast is definitely the option to go for - there is a reason it is classic and with a Yorkshire pudding - it's a hit from their menu! Drop on down for fresh and fantastic food.
