Sek fun bbq house is quite deceiving but in a good way.its very much the definition of a hole in the wall.even the name of the store via the signage isnt all that visible
You would understandably be iffy about eating in a place like this and while deciding whether or not to actually dine here, we were told by their cashier to make up our minds fast because they do run out of food before closing.
After some walking around, ending up here was a pleasant surprise.
Ordered the duck and the bbq pork
Rice was large enough to share to be honest, and while i do scrimp on viands, i had enough leftover for another serving of their rice
Price is very much fair, pretty clean, quite fast service. The place is a bit small so seating might be a problem if theres a rush of people.
On another time walking past the place around 630pm, they did indeed run out of bbq pork so grabbing them fast and early is a good idea
I liked the duck and some of the dishes like fried rice get pretty lavish, although some had chewy meat. The pork and duck are only priced a little lower than other BBQ places but the meals with rice or noodles seemed good value - look expensive at $12-$14 but use the large takeaway containers so you get a lot of food (too much for me to eat for lunch so glad I got takeaway).
Don't be fooled by it's appearance, this little shop in Redfern is serving some of the best Chinese BBQ in Sydney.
I had been talking to a friend about the declining standards of the well known BBQ shops. Most of them are now underwhelming, or at best inconsistent. He told me to check this place out.
I ordered the double pork (roast pork and char siu pork) - to properly assess their BBQ prowess.
The char siu was glazed well and very flavoursome. I could pick up a slight taste of honey, which led me to believe they made their own glaze. The lady working later confirmed that all the sauces are made in house - no bottled stuff from the supermarket. This makes a huge difference.
The rice also deserves a special mention. Well flavoured from the sauce, and much better than the competition.
Would be great if they could add Hong Kong style milk tea and lemon tea to the menu as well, but maybe they don't have the space to make those kinds of drinks.
Would recommend for any fans of Chinese BBQ. Definitely worth the trip.
An establishment with basic decor, it excels where a chinese bbq restaurant should. The BBQ pork, roast pork & duck are delicious. If you are craving good chinese bbq and you dont want to head to the city, this place is highly recommended. In fact it's dangerous having this so close to home haha.
Sek Fun has become an excellent local establishment, offering delicious Chinese food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly, the food is of excellent quality, and the location is handy, being close to Redfern Station.
Their roast pork, roast duck and everything else is bomb! The flavours at this place reminds me of home. Service is great and pretty quick, even when it gets busy. The guy that runs the shop works really hard but is always nice and friendly. Price is really reasonable for the portion you get!
Everything is made with care and the staff are friendly and go out of their way to accommodate your concerns. Best Chinese takeout place in Redfern!
I’m from 🇭🇰 and this is the real deal. Fresh, well presented, wholesome. Roast meats are excellent. Not oily, flavourful, done right. You get what you pay for. I’m
so happy I found a quality place at last.
Had a day full of work on hand so needed something to eat that was quick & easy, and this place delivered in flying colours. Ordered the mixed roast on rice for $15 and was in & out in 5 mins. Portions were generous, had plenty of crispy pork skin (my favourite!), loved the pork but the duck could have used a little more sauce. Would love to see them open up the shop and dine in next time.
Small cosy place. Great customer service and Fantastic food. The House Roast pork wassss Yummmmy... Succulent n juicy with crispy crackling skin. Chow mein just the way I want it-- Still Crunchy noodles while the delicious sauce seeps in. Garlic Choy Sum was just the perfect combination, fresh and refreshing. Will surely come back and Must order their House smoked/roast duck next time. Had it before and I reckon one of the best I've had in Sydney.. If not the best.
Had a great roast pork / soya chicken combination with dry noodles. It was simple but delicious. Freshly made in-store and the owner was helpful. Haven't tried the other dishes. Maybe after a few more samples and if the expectations were exceed it will be 5 stars. Stay tune.
Went back a 2nd time and wasn't disappointed with their Laksa either.
For this kind of price.. it is MEGA 5 STARS
Great food for the price and location. Awesome to finally have quality Chinese in the area. The bbq is obviously the speciality but everything is delicious. It errs on the side of westernised over traditional menu options, so be a little wary if expecting traditional food.
Best roast pork in Sydney! Quick and super friendly store. Large portions with reasonable price.
Love this place. I would have given it 0 stars for the rude white guy working there. Horrible attitude, slow and completely misaligned for the job. Don’t bark at a customer just because you’re slow. Everything else is good though. The staff and food is worth it. But the inept guy should go.
Always fantastic roast pork from Sek Fun! Can't get enough of it!
As others have said, really friendly staff, and prices are excellent. Our definite "go to" place for Chinese BBQ!
Just wish they were open on weekends! (just one day guys, please! :))
