Excellent food always.
Live in Melbourne & make a point of visiting whenever I'm in Sydney.
Friendly staff from Japan so you get the real experience :)
Very homey Japanese place - food is simple and delicious. The place is also extremely good value - great quality without a big price tag. Definitely one of the best Japanese places in the South Sydney area.
The most authentic Japanese restaurant in the shire! The sashimi is to die for! excellent service with a homely feel! A hidden gem in Sylvania
Just wanted to first point out that a lot of "Japanese" places around Sydney are serving you Korean rice rolls under Japanese names, like "sushi", when they're two different things... But hey, if that's your cuppa...
This place however, is a popular restaurant with a home-y feel and great service, and *gasp* real Japanese food.
Had a 10 course set menu since we booked a large table, the food came out promptly, hot and fresh.
The okonomiyake was unconventional, being on a stick and deep-fried, giving it a crispy shell, which was totally addictive.
Another highlight was the wagyu beef carpaccio in a soy-based dressing. Some chefs go overboard with the sesame oil, not here. The flavours were spot-on and the beef melt-in-your-mouth good.
Sashimi was fresh and the sushi was the closest I've had to those in Japan, with the most perfect rice-to-fish ratio I've seen yet in Sydney. Just wish the rice was packed a bit tighter though.
The chef also did a chicken thigh karrage, which was very juicy and the batter extremely flavoursome.
Excellent service. Bonus points for the owner seems to recognise my friend who has visited previously.
Avoid the gyoza (unless you must) as it's pre-packed frozen Costco stuff.
Will visit again for the autumn kaiseki, and thank you chef for not serving us that offensive fake crab stick stuff like so many other "sushi" places.
Self respect and therefore massive respect in return.
Luv it!. Wayama is our local Japanese Restaurant, but that's not why we go there every 2-3 weeks. My husband and I travel for food...we want good, "clean" food and this Restaurant fits the bill. The owners, a lovely Jaoanese couple, take great pride in their food. We highly recommend Wayama.
Fantastic. Love this place, the food has always been amazing and the service top-notch. The sashimi is a highlight and has always been very fresh and tasty (not to mention the great presentation). The rest of the menu is varied and delicious and the service is friendly and efficient.
Favourite restaurant in the shire.
Don’t underestimate the small storefront and simple decorations, the selection here is fantastic. Everything we had was great but was specifically impressed by the specials menu. Will be returning to try to tasting menu in the near future. Staff were incredible and greeted a few regulars by name, and all round excellent experience
Not your typical Japanese restaurant in Australia but something you'll expect to find in the most conspicuous corner of a yokocho in Japan. Food was lovely and service was terrific. I liked the small and cozy environment.
A small and inviting local authentic Japanese restaurant, reminding me of my trips to Japan. Nothing fancy, simple and not pretentious. Would recommend if you are in the area 🇯🇵😋
Friendly staff, awesome food. I am in love with a Crispy Pork Belly with red miso sauce that is available on the special menu but we already have it two weeks in a row. You must try it.
Wayama is great local restaurant serving high quality Japanese food.
Must try their signature Kaiseki dinner option during mid-week. It is reasonably priced and memorable. Their amazing traditional Japanese dinner experience is awesome and delicious.
Their Kaiseki menu changes every season. I had their Autumn season menu and it was really nice ~
The food is so very delicious! Tried and really enjoyed their sushi, sashimi and prawn tempura udon (pictured). Would definitely come back!
Delicious and fresh sashimi cuts that is well worth the price. Wide range of fish cuts from Tuna, Salmon and Kingfish.
Add on reasonably well done hot pot and it is clearly the best Japanese restaurant in the Shire. Assuming that the cooked items retain the same quality that is.
Not to mention the usual Japanese selection of alcoholic beverages - sake, and various staple Japanese beers.
It can get busy really quickly so best to book ahead or get a table when it opens. Parking is also quite hard but there are side roads in which to park.
One of my fav places ever. I know it doesn’t have the looks but the food and service is brilliant. Never have had a bad or disappointing meal. Always new specials to chose from too. Nice selection of sake. Make sure you book ahead as the place is small. And there is a parking at the rear :)
