Great little joint with a bistro out back. They must have had some big festivities for Melbourne Cup in the bar as it did smell a little off. The bistro out the back was closed off from the bar (glass doors). Huge menu selection, and the meals certainly are a decent size! I didn’t get too finish my spaghetti marinara, cos it was huge and had plenty of seafood! Nice little place to try if your stopping though Toowoomba!
I had family lunch at the Spotted Cow today with a group of 15+ and we were not disappointed at all. The staff were fantastic ensuring us all our meals will come out a fast as possible so we could all eat together. I ordered the Atlantic Salmon and vegetables, the salmon was cooked perfectly and still had a crispy skin and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The serving size for not only my dish but for everyone's meals were huge! We will be coming back again.
Great Mussels. We ordered the kilo of mussles in the garlic and white wine sauce. The sauce was a little salty for our liking, but the mussels were wonderfully cooked.
Our only criticism is that the mussels (and beef spare ribs, which we also ordered and were delicious) did not come with any vegetables. Note that the menu never mentions that they do, just that we felt it would have been a more rounded meal, had vegetables been included.
All in all, the mussels are definately something we would order again. I would probably try one of the steaks next time, instead of the beef spare ribs.
As per other reviewers, drinks were pricey (especially for soft drink).
Best mussels and beer ever. The Leffe Braun on tap was perfect and the Hoegaarden Mussels the best mussels I've ever had! The $20 specials were really good value - we got the lamb shank which was good.
Great selection of tap and bottled beer. I have to agree that there was also a large selection of beer in the carpet though...
It was certainly more than we expected. Drove past it on Ruthven Street and didn't think much of the place until we turned into the side street and saw the back of the restaurant! Our steaks were cooked to our specification-something that we hadn't come across in a long time! Generous serving of chips and veggies. We had sticky date pudding for dessert and absolutely loved it. A great place to find a feed. Service was fantastic and we didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. We ordered our dessert after dinner and got it about 2 mins later. Certainly worth calling in if you are passing through Toowoomba.
Portions are big, steaks are good! The service may be rather slow though. I enjoyed the food there, a must try is the brandy and green peppercorn sauce with the steaks!
The Spotted Cow has a comprehensive menu covering everything from steak to salads and seafood. I am still disappointed at missing out on the mussels but that's something I'm keen to go back for. I wasn't hugely impressed with my steak but secretly, I did like the little cow-shaped pastries. Almost too cute to eat. Almost.
