Highly recommend. Best schnitzels in Melbourne. Wonderful friendly service. Decor is truely Hungarian. We will be back !
Amazingly authentic Hungarian food cooked in a way I would expect from home. Very friendly staff and a great assortment of food that should leave everyone happy. Goulash is a highlight as always but I think that the desserts and even the entree soup are amazing as well. Definitely recommend to anybody who wants to try an authentic Hungarian experience.
Really delicious, really authentic Hungarian food. My Hungarian relatives love it.
They provide such an array of deliciousness that it's hard to choose. The decor is daggy, but the food, service and drinks are incredible. And it's made even better if you can go when they have a special event on, like Hungarian dancing. It's spectacular!
Went here with my family for the first time tonight and absolutely loved it. For $40 per head it was well worth the price. Lots to choose from beginning with a selection of cold meats , crackers , appetisers, pates and delicious pea soup. Main meal full of hot meat dishes and all delicious. Approx 6 traditional meals to choose from. Dessert included in the buffet. Service good and well worth the visit. Will definitely be back.
Amazing food and quite the hidden gem. The restaurant is behind a Hungarian community center proving its authenticity. The venue is small but quaint decorated with Hungarian cultural items be sure to book in advance. The food is hearty and delicious, rustic style and flavor but with enough attention to detail to keep you pleasantly surprised. Staff had explained to us that all the dishes are made from scratch from breads to desserts requiring all day to prepare for that nights buffet. As it was out first time experiencing Hungarian food the staff took out time to explain all the different dishes and their significance. Overall very impressed 9/10 would definitely return.
Great place for a function or just for a meal. This is the fourth time our family has held a function here - this time a 70th birthday. The food was fantastic - well prepared, tasty and lots of it - each time anything ran out it was quickly replentished. The 3-course buffet offered lots of choice, including dishes that appealed to non-Hungarians as well (but really, anybody would like most Hungarian dishes). My personal favourites were the Hortobagy palacsinta and the stuffed cabbage rolls, which were both succulent and tasty. The service was attentive and friendly. With 60+ people we had the venue to ourselves, with plenty of space around the tables and people could hear each other speak (important at our age!). There is a dance floor and a TV where you can put on a slide show DVD of photos if you want. Our family loves this place and we highly recommend it.
Yummy. We dined on a coupon deal and enjoyed the tasty food presented. The goulash soup was filling and delicious. Really enjoyed the cabbage roll stuffed with pork mince and rice. Dessert I didn't think was anything particularly memorable (Strawberry jam crepes & floating islands.). When we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a full buffet for an additional $15 per person. I'm glad we didn't take that as we were full as googs when we left with our three course set dinner.
This is more of a photo post and not food review because we had the buffet instead of separate meals. Korona Csarda is a great restaurant in the Hungarian Community Centre. Their menu changes every week, but it has plenty of traditional Hungarian options.
The layout of the buffet is as such: entree station, mains and dessert. As space is limited in the serving areas, desserts are served after most of the crowd have finished their mains. The restaurant offers various dips, speciality hams, cheese and soup. Oh and an half-boiled egg with tomato sauce drip on top. I believe most of the items are homemade. INCLUDING THE HOMEMADE SHOTS (see pic below, notice the little glass :) )
8/10 = Excellent. FOOD: Little cosy buffet set up - from salad, cold meat and cheese, hot food to dessert. All of the food tasted authentic and delicious. Desserts were the highlight - spot on and much better than other European desserts (i.e. French and Italian).
ENVIRONMENT: Service was excellent. The place was not packed when we were there on Saturday for lunch. Nice music and atmosphere.
VERDICT: Will definitely come back, probably on Friday evenings when they have live music!
What a delicious lunch we had, authentic and rustic cuisine.
Mothers day buffet.
Their bi-monthly Hungarian cooking class is well worth the cost of admission. Very friendly teachers and a boatload of yummy Hungarian food. A really one of a kind experience!
I started with the chicken soup with pogacsa....it tasted like home, exactly. Next was the beef goulash with nokedli and braised red cabbage....tasted like home, exactly. Next was the mix berry jam crepes and the zserbo....tasted like home, exactly! I cannot tell you how good this was and reminded me of how my grandmother cooked. This cooking is on the mark and genuine care has been put into the menu. Well done Korona Csarda.
