Great Indian food with generous portions. Nice and spicy! Have been here a few times now and always consistent. Haven’t had a bad meal yet.
Good Indian food in an average price range, Service can be better, I have been visiting a few times and nothing to complain or to compliment.. Consistent
Been here a few times with different group of friends. Not once have we been disappointed on food quality and service. If you like spicy, ask for very hot and you won't be disappointed. Wash it down with a nice mango lasi.
I'll be frank. Bistro 1947 is sandwiched between a commonwealth bank and one of the better Malaysian restaurants in the Knox area. It's not often that I go there, and with them situated so close to Straits, there's a big reason not to step through the door a lot.
What makes this a shame is that it's a really decent place. The food is really well prepared, always tasty and fresh and is very reasonably priced. In any other strip of shops I'd be more than happy to visit quite often.
The Dahl Makahni is bloody brilliant and they do lovely home made Naan also.
So if you fancy lunch and you're headed for Straits, just once, take a detour inside. I guarantee you'll be happy.
This is our favourite Indian restaurant. We have been here one too many times!
The food is very good and light on the stomach. Veg or non-veg are always customised to your palate. You need to tell the hosts on the level of spice.
Hosts, Narinder and Rupan, are very welcoming and polite.
This place gives us authentic Indian food away from India.
Tip: Indian Chinese offerings are average. Everything else, especially chola-bhatura & kashmiri naan are exceptionally.
Lunch special of Parathas are a treat too.
Have had take away twice and last week got the chance to dine in. We have had the Butter Chicken. Rogan Josh. Lamb Madras. Chicken Korma and Lamb Biryani and they have been as good if not better as any other i have had. Samosas are sensational and when dining in the Aloo Tikki was the dish of the night. Will be going back for sure
Just had my first takeaway from Bistro 1947 tonight. Very impressed! Tasty food with no fatty bits, fresh and hot. Easily on par with any of the best eastern suburbs Indian eateries Certainly give it a try. I will most certainly be back to try other options on the menu

Had previously been here twice, once for take away in Dec and once at the restaurant in Jan. Both times were good.
Ordered tonight via menulog website for pick up. Ordered butter chicken - medium, lamb rogan josh - medium, Goan fish curry - hot and garlic naan. Not impressed at all! Don't know if they have changed hands but none of the curries were hot, not even the hot one. The Goan fish curry was a joke! Would have been lucky if there was 100g fish in the dish and it was in such tiny pieces it resembled baby food!
After recommending this to several friends after the first 2 visits, I am so disappointed this time around that I don't know whether I will be back.
If this was due to me using the menulog app instead of dining inside or ordering the take away directly, then that's even more shameful

After posting the previous review, I made a complaint to the restaurant itself, speaking to a waitress to express my disappointment.
2 days later one of the owners contacted me, apologising for my poor experience and advising that this was not the norm for his restaurant. He asked me to give them another chance, offering my next visit to be complimentary - this was unexpected but very much appreciated.
Tonight we took him up on his generous offer and we chose to try the chicken korma, prawn masala, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. All curries we chose to be hot this time.
What a difference from the last experience! It was just as good, if not better than our first two visits.
The chicken korma was delicious with either thigh or drumstick pieces used, so the chicken wasn't dry.
Fresh prawns were used in the prawn masala and they were cooked well. They were decent sized prawns as well!
The lamb vindaloo was extremely tasty with the lamb very tender.
The garlic naan was generously covered in garlic so garlic lovers will be suitably happy. We were also given some pappadums as a nice surprise that were great.
We all agreed that whilst tasty with well developed curry flavours, the curries were more medium than hot, but this is just a minor fault.
All in all, a fantastic improvement from the previous visit and we will be happy to return again in the near future.
The previous review I had scored 1/5.
I am happy to change this to 4/5.
