Pretty decent fish and chips. All the cooking is done in the back out of sight, which is different to almost every fish and chips place I've ever been to. We came in to an extremely friendly reception from the staff, and they were quick to offer us altered pack options that weren't on the signs based on our number, without us having to ask.
Fish was well-cooked, not overly battered, but pieces were small. Chips were easily above average, nice and crispy throughout. I had my suspicions that this place would be your run-of-the-mill takeaway fish and chips joint, especially being in a small town, but White Salt turned out to exceed my expectations.
Hands down the freshest and biggest serve of fish and chips I've had in Victoria! You know the chips weren't frozen from a supermarket bag when they come in all shapes and sizes. You could actually taste the potato and not just grease. The fish was sooooo fresh and tasty (As is what Phillip island is famous for). Batter wasn't too thick and meat was really juicy. Service was really good as well. Definitely worth visiting!
I really liked the way my order was taken; the hospitality is excellent! This is a small shop and small bits are done for the ambience and feel, but it looks cute :)
As suggested by the lady at the counter, as a beginner I went with the local - Flake fish, and it was really smooth! The quantity is overwhelming too, but my only complaint is that it is too bland! The small piece of lemon and Aioli dip couldn't help me much! :(
I would have preferred a little spiced up batter, but I believe thats how the things are done, so be it!
P.S.: This was my first "Fish n chips" destination!
