Review Matteo Double Bay - Woollahra

FOURTH TIME dining here! We love this place - it’s truly the best Italian restaurant around! There is virtually nothing on the menu that they can get wrong!!! The pizzas are to die for, we’ve tried several, the pasta dishes are flavourful without being too rich and the cocktail menu is outstanding! This is one place I always recommend to people to try and they are always happy with service, food and the ambience!

This is my absolutely favorite Italian restaurant in Sydney. We ordered more than 15 dishes every single one was fantastic and well balanced 😍👍all the team and kitchen members were professional and lovely friendly 😊 I highly recommend this place!!

Pasta was quite tasteless and prawns tasted like they had been frozen and heated quickly. The dish had a strong seafood smell which was not appealing. Octopus was chewy. Waitress didn’t ask how the dishes were and didn’t offer dessert. Disappointed as this restaurant was highly recommended, not worth the $. Few weeks after…Staff member phoned me to discuss, though all they asked was if I had anything else to add…I replied “no nothing else…” very strange way of “discussing” a feedback, the lady on the call said “ok noted bye”. Don’t waste my time or any other customers that tries to provide feedback if you can just read it online and don’t intend to “discuss further”.

Always a great atmosphere at Matteo. Food was incredible and so well priced. Burrata and the spicy vodka rigatoni the stand out dishes!

Came here with my girlfriends and we really loved the spicy vodka rigatoni and the margherita pizza. Of the drinks, my favourite was the Sweet Mateo cocktail. Would definitely visit again!

Have been a few times now and Matteo's can be hit and miss. The atmosphere is always great but sometimes the service or food can lack. My first experience was faultless and the food was delicious, it is reasonably priced also. But since then there have been things like bringing the wrong orders to the table or Styrofoam in the tiramisu (this was deducted from final bill). I like going to Matteo's but it hasn't been as good as the first time which is disappointing.

Was looking forward to a date night at Matteo but we were very disappointed by the food. The spicy vodka rigatoni had no flavour, spice and was not worth $35! The side salad had a hair in it but the pizza and drinks were good. Overall, pretty disappointing experience 😔

Delicious food, broccoli meat pizza was divine, friendly staff and great atmosphere, thanks! If you can, get outdoor seating, it is beautiful in the afternoon
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
I rate this place 3.5 ⭐️<br/><br/>This place is a very busy Italian restaurant located in double bay!<br/><br/>We came here for a friends birthday. For $358 I was expecting it to be mind blowing. <br/><br/>Let’s start with the entree. The squid was not that good I rate that a 1.5. It was oily not much squid.<br/><br/>The other entree was some kind or cured meat it was mind blowing fresh. It was by far the bst thing all night!<br/><br/>Then we also shared oysters. Iv never actually chewed a oyster but with this one I could. It was supper fresh and amazing! <br/><br/>MAINS!<br/><br/>For a main my friend shared pizza. I tried a it. It was soggy and sloppy! Iv had better.<br/><br/>I had the Tagliatelle maremma. This was also amazing it was quiet strong but tasted like duck with gravy. <br/><br/>My friend had the kids Penne Bolognese. It also tasted amazing.<br/><br/>DESSERT!<br/>I had the Tiramisu! It was so yummy!<br/><br/><br/>Over all it was a great experience I was just expecting the pizza to be amazing, it could have been because too much topping and sauce !

Food was really good, but I have the idea that they expect customers to pay a surcharge for up to 10% for Sunday rate, eftpos and for groups of 8+ when the price of the food should be enough. Especially when you have to pay a surcharge for all 3, I just dint find that reasonable at all.

We just had lunch at Matteo in Double Bay and we were a little disappointed. The risotto I ordered with mussels, calamari and stracciatella was a little bland and the rice overcook. The service was good and I watched the pizzas as they were coming out of the oven and they looked great. Maybe pizza is the way to go next time? #matteo #italianfood #italiancuisine

Love the pasta here.. the mixed seafood pasta is to die for. It can get pretty loud and busy in there though. All round tasty dishes, good for a date night/ dinner with friends

***A review for the booiiiz***<br/>-Venue-<br/>“sparkling or still”🙄🙄🙄<br/>The place is nice enough to be considered “date night” and not just dinner, good to know for that nagging gf.” <br/>-Service-<br/>Service was average, not that I care, but your girlfriend might. <br/>-Happy Belly?-<br/>Food was nice but not filling enough for a hungry lad. Could easily smash 2 maybe 3 plates. But at $25-30 per dish, your gonna wanna stop by maccas on the way home. <br/>-Parking-<br/>Free parking after 6pm, not too hard to find 3/5👍🏼<br/><br/>3.5/5 normal score<br/>2/5 Bro score<br/><br/>

They have tables inside and outside. A soft light create a nice ambience, giving you good vibes. Just a bit noisy because it was busy.<br/>We ordered pizza, they were good but they used dill inside my calzone (I think they mixed it with ricotta) and I really didn’t like this thing! Dill has a strong taste which it covers all the other ingredients and everything taste like it. I ate the top of the calzone and it was so good without the dill taste! I was so, so disappointed because it could have been perfect.<br/>In fact my friend’s pizza was good because it didn’t have it.<br/>Fries were good too.

Excellent pasta in a comfortable, cosy, yet stylish setting in the heart of Double Bay. Short but spot on cocktail list. Definitely will come again

Came here on a Good Friday and it wasn’t too busy so we managed to get seated in the outdoor area with sidewalk seating. The best thing here is the pizza, especially the eggplant parmigiana pizza and it didn’t disappoint. Im usually not a fan of eggplant but i would definitely go for this again. The Oven Baked Girella Ricotta Bolognese Ragu Sautéed was also lovely and is quite similar to lasagne. Would come here again for the divine pizzas.

Loved the chips. Simple but with just the right salt and mayo. The gambi pizza was good but the middle was a little soggy. We also had the lamb skewers. They were ok but I wouldn’t order them again. Dessert they served the chocolate cake cold. I didn’t expect this. I sent it back and asked them to heat it up. They put our half eaten one in the microwave but when it came back it was a lot better. The ricotta donuts were a 9/10. Light little balls of fluff. Perfectly soft on the inside. The creme anglaise was a good accompaniment but the dried citrus fruit surrounding didn’t pair well. It would have been nicer with berries or chocolate and ice cream in my opinion. Overall the food was pretty good and the service attentive.

Amazing dining experience at Matteo! We enjoyed an Italian feast on the outdoor terrace, perfect with the warm spring weather. The food is simple but delicious with premium ingredients and great taste. Will definitely go back for another plate of pasta!

Service is not great here, took 15 minutes to get two glasses of wine and had to ask three waiters for it. Funnily our food came straight away, it was beautiful and fresh. The cocktail menu is good and not crazy expensive. Good place for a group and drinks but wouldn’t be good for someone looking for a quiet night.

As Italian restaurants go Matteo looks the part but does not deliver. Service is attentive and officious but you are not made to feel welcome. It's down to business in a matter of seconds: "what sort of water do you want?" AND " here are the specials"<br/><br/>The food presents very well but lacking the flavour of well cooked Italian. Overall there is nothing for the palate.<br/><br/>The food is supported mainly by an overpriced wine list 95% sourced from Italy. You really don't know what you will get in terms of quality even though you are parting with $70 plus and then some.<br/><br/>At the end of the day Sydney offers many Italian restaurants that offer much more.<br/>

Matteo is one of my favourite restaurants - The staff are so lovely, the food is absolutely delicious and so are the drinks! It is my go-to Italian restaurant.<br/><br/>Highly recommend it to all of my friends.

Absolutely loved Matteo. Trendy & chic ambience with friendly staff. Pizza was amazing! The fluffy wood fire pizza base added to its exquisite taste. We had the prosciutto & eggplant pizzas. Was pleasantly surprised with the flavour. I would recommend Matteo to anyone who’s looking to have a modern Italian dining experience.

Matteo is the new and fabulous authentic Italian experience. Great food, friendly staff and fun vibe. Enjoy the pretty decor feeling like a villa from Positano. The verandah and courtyard are my favourite areas to sit. Enjoy and Buon Appetito!

Matteo is a newly-opened restaurant on Bay Street in Double Bay. Helmed by the chef who attained a hat with Da Orazio, the spacious venue features a wood-fired oven in the middle of the bright low-ceiling dining hall. The menu offers a long list of very bad pizzas.<br/><br/>One of the most irritating things in life is a flimsy pizza which ingredients drop piece by piece when you try to pick them up. You either have to dirty your hands or eat them with fork and knife. Matteo’s pizza is exactly like that. The crust was thick and charred whereas the base was so soft that and raw that it could not support the weight of the ingredients.<br/><br/>My gambero pizza which incorporates San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, prawns and capers, were poorly mixed too. The overly sweet and sour tomatoes overwhelmed the taste of the stale and largely bleached prawns. For a pizzeria recommended by Fairfax’s Good Food, I am expecting better and higher quality ingredients 😏

Top ambience and pastas which change regularly also a great place for an Aperitivo in the afternoon sitting on the balcony or tables out the front

This place is Italian at its best - we just love it.<br/>The ambience and decor makes you feel like you've stepped into a pizzeria in Italy and the food is so incredibly yummy!<br/>We would even say it's the BEST pizza in Sydney.<br/>The tiramisu is highly recommended.

Fantastic food and great layout. Pizza was fluffy with a great base and really flavoursome. Really strong menu and great drinks selection. Service wasn’t the greatest and could’ve been more attentive

The opening of MATTEO was very much anticipated in Double Bay. Not only did it mean the long vacant site of former Italian restaurant Limoncello was finally being filled (by another Italian, nonetheless!). It also meant that Orazio D’Elia’s (of Da Orazio fame) food was now slightly more reachable for those not wanting to venture to the parking chaos that is Bondi. DS took me there for my birthday last month and we had some thoroughly good food.
