Review Mr G's - Woollahra

We came for an anniversary night on a booking. Restaurant wasn’t very full and we were sat at the back of the venue. The staff weren’t very attentive or helpful unfortunately. Our first option for mains wasn’t available. The food was pretty good, however the service and atmosphere was lacking particularly for a Saturday night. The mains were served on oversized plates (see pic below) which made us feel we were especially getting ripped off on the high prices. Also don’t be surprised when you expect the famous taters to mean multiple and you only get one. Sides are required if you are having meat.

Stumbled upon this little gem while taking a walk with the missus and little one. Very cosy, vintage and surprisingly baby friendly! Yes, we had a 9month old and they were extremely accommodating. Food was a delight! We had the oysters, chicken wings and shoe string fries with truffle cheese for starters. They were fresh, crispy and really amazing! For mains we had the short ribs. It was the perfect fusion cooked to perfection! Soft, succulent and tasty beef paired with corn, Spanish onions and zucchini. Will definitely be back!

Excellent food. Oddly enough the corn bread was a highlight. Chose the Scotch fillet but I suspect I would have preferred the Eye Fillet. Best part of the evening was the atmosphere of sitting in the big, leather, New York style booths. Service was a little patchy, but all in all a fine evening. I would be tempted to return for a special occasion only.

Went here on a first table deal. It was a early sitting on a Monday so it was very quite so the atmosphere was not what it could be. But couldn't fall the food or service and their cocktails were fantastic. I would recommend the this a a great place from groups. Over all very satisfied and will visit again.

Great place to have family dinner. I personally think the entrees are better than the mains.

We went for the thanksgiving dinner, we enjoyed the food however the portions size could have been better for the price. The main reason for only giving 2 stars though was the service. We were there for 2 and a half hours with 45 minutes of this waiting for desert from the set Thanksgiving menu of the night. After 40 minutes we heard a waitress say that's about it for the night and it was clear we had been forgotten. The desert was then brought out after asking but an apology for the wait would have been appreciated also.

Had the short rib, paired with the Goose Island IPA. Nothing short of amazing. Wow! Monday night, so it was quiet, which was great. Decor is outstanding. Came away feeling like I had discovered a hidden gem in Sydney! With food and ambiance like this would have expected a queue out to the street!

So pretty cozy, steak place with a very old world decor with wood and leather and the like. When I visited It was pretty quiet. The steak was delicious, the sides were pretty good. My entree wasn’t quite right. Might have been stored a bit too long. Would come again. -1 for lack of atmosphere and food could have been a little bit better

We weren’t even able to eat, we tried to order the minute streak and have it cooked longer then a minute and the waiter was like no can’t do that! Honestly disappointing that you go to a streak restaurant and can’t have the streak cooked the way you would like especially for the expensive price

We came here to celebrate my MIL birthday for dinner and as we were dining early, the restaurant was not busy so we had no issues with service and the staff were lovely.

The restaurant itself has nice booth seats with American steakhouse feel. We started off with Alaskan king crab cocktail which wasn’t bad. I ordered their eye fillet which was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested and my husband went for the safe rout and ordered their short rib which was nice and tender. My MIL decided to try their glacier toothfish which she enjoyed but didn’t like the accompanying pinto beans, fennel and smoked baby tomatoes. My son chose from the kids menu of beef burger and strawberry milkshake which he didn’t mind.

To end we shared their NY cheesecake and S’mores which wasn’t bad but I would have been disappointed if I had to pay full price of $18 each.

Great decor and ambience. Entrees and sides were average, with the rump steak perfectly cooked.
Service was slow and inexperienced, but may have been an off night.

Service: average. We went on a Wednesday night, wasn’t busy at all. No one greeted us at the door and when we mentioned our booking the waiters seemed a bit confused/ didn’t know what they were doing. Standard decent table service once we were seated.

Food: average. Wasn’t as good as expected especially for the price. We ordered 2 fish tacos, 2x the New York cut steak medium rare one with mushroom sauce, other with peppercorn and a side of truffle mash. Steak was cooked towards the medium side. It did come with some bone marrow and the fat of the steak was good. Apart from that, everything was alright but not AMAZING. Fish tacos were decent but very small portions

Ambience: because we went on a Wednesday night it was very quite, we were 1 of 3 tables that were in the restaurant. Just found the layout and design of the place very old fashioned which I understand is part of the style. But there wasn’t really a good atmosphere maybe due to the location of it or maybe also there wasn’t any music playing to set the mood.

Overall average experience, wasn’t bad but wouldn’t go back.

The Intercontinental Hotel in Double Bay is the epitome of luxury, as a five star hotel, with a stellar rooftop and rooms to match it sits in one of Sydney’s flashiest suburbs. The complex is home to many a restaurant including the recently launched Mr G’s, a New York Bar & Grill. The restaurant boasts an authentic American charcoal grill, which it uses to cook all of its meat helping to produce perfectly cooked meat, and create that enchanting mouth-watering juiciness across its selection of steaks.

Bianca: We’ve held a certain fascination for the Intercontinental in Double Bay since they reopened in 2014, Alex essentially lives his life as a Real Housewife of (insert city) so we’re always on the hunt for new and exciting openings in Sydney and Oz wide. Attached to the Intercontinental and just opposite Sake, is Mr G’s. A contemporary take on a New York steakhouse and owned by the Gallagher hotel group, hence the name. I currently have a Mister Gee’s in my life… so let’s just see if I have room for another.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
It's hard to not be impressed as you enter Mr G’s, with its New York speakeasy bar vibe laced with family and sports memorabilia, it is easy to see why Mr G’s is buzzing. Being deceptively large with its many booths and seats at the bar, it caters for those looking for fine dining as well as those looking for a casual drink. The intimate surroundings and plush leather booth seating, are well shielded from the bright walkway of Mr G’s home inside the Intercontinental Hotel, needless to say both The Viscount and Viscountess were eager to begin.

Easily. But at $90 you'd want it to be. Cooked beautifully medium rare and rested nicely. This was like butter in my mouth. Or edible sex. The neat little gratin on the side was a good plate filler, I recommend the greens as well even though I didn't order them. An excellent wine list to pair with a great lunch or dinner steak too 👌
