As soon as you walk in here.. the aroma! Delicious bacon and egg rolls and well made coffee. Very busy, not ideal for those with kids (me) but perfect for a catch up with friends. Plenty of friendly staff.

Nice cafe right on the beach. Walked in with 6 at lunch and were seated right away. Lovely staff and good food. Bathrooms are clean. Will be back to try their coffee and sweets.

Super friendly relaxed vibe with incredibly delicious tasty food! The Swiss Cheese and Leg Ham toastie reminds me of the saying “Sweet dreams are made of cheese” They actually do an extra layer of cheese on the outside of the bread! Quality produce and attention to detail! Banana bread and coffee is also best I’ve had in this area! Could become my favourite local!

Coffees were cold. They can’t make a cup of tea to save their lives, even with instruction and it cost $14 for 2 bacon in a brioche bun when I asked for a toasted bacon sandwich. Never again

Superbly set up for covid, lovely lady took my order, blooming DELICIOUS coffee and possibly the best green bowl I have had in my life and I’ve had them all! Big kudos. Xx

They forgot the ham in my cheese, tomato and ham omelette, but replaced it with delicious prosciutto :) they did curdle the milk in my coffee, but replaced it with a non-curdled delicious coffee! Nice waitstaff and service, I like the vibe and open bench top, facing outside!

Great atmosphere, tasty food and fast service. Can recommend the chorizo and potato baked eggs and ricotta hotcakes. Also a good option for a quick coffee

This is quite literally the only good cafe I have found in Sydney - Melbourne quality food and coffee! The only downside was the angry drivers we had to deal with to get there

Excellent breakfast and lunch restaurant. My wife and I ate here twice during our brief stay in Paddington. We enjoyed sharing the roasted lamb sandwich, baked eggs, and ricotta pancakes. Everything was delicious (including the coffee and fresh "daily juice"). The service is impeccable too.
Katie Morgan
Appalling service. Walked in to order a coffee was completely ignored by all staff. Walked back out.

Wonderful food and coffee, lovely staff, and seriously the best scrambled eggs EVER!!

Had to wait unacknowledged for a good 7 minutes to place an order for a take-away coffee, and , waited another 25 minutes for a very ordinary long black!

The food is absolutely beautiful. Fresh and full of love. I loved it, will be back all the time. Thanks again

Best hot choc in Australia! Love it!

I really enjoyed my halloumi burger from this cafe! One of the best burgers I’ve had I think. The bun was soft and the flavours were simple. I wasn’t into my coffee here, my latte came out as a flat white and it had a strange flavour, I’m assuming they just had a bad day or a trainee was on the coffee machine. I would go back here for the burger but not a coffee.

Usually get takeaway coffee and HLAT - both are good! Have dined in a few times... gets quite crowded on weekends so be prepared to wait but not for too long. Hair and clothes might smell of cooking after though.

Small and not exactly the most pram-friendly place in Paddo, but I'd happily leave the kids outside by the fence with my pooch while I devour a ham and cheese baguette any-day of the week. This place is a must!

This place has terrible service. i have tried to eat there 3 times now. Each time the food is fine (when I can get served) but I am basically just ignored until you ask to be served then you get ignored some more. I am now not subjecting myself to such a poor service again. Too many seats in too small an area with too few (and unprofessional) staff. Unless you don't care about being ignored I suggest avoiding it.

best food! and lovely staff.. an all time fave! the scrambled eggs are literally the best in sydney, and wonderful juices too. green bowl is magic too!
Foodienumber1
Overpriced, overcrowded, loud place. Good food previously but now the bills are the most outstanding thing about this place. The juices (in a plastic bottle, not even freshly squeezed) are almost $10. And the atmosphere is loud with no sunlight. Just not worth it.

This place is heaven. Always bustling and once you start eating you can see why. I had the ham & cheese toasted baguette and it's probably the best I've ever eaten in my entire life. Seriously- you must try this. I'm told the lamb version is also excellent. Whilst I don't doubt this information, I'll need to go back to see for myself.
Coffee was extra hot as requested and was made to perfection. Well done Flat White, I've found my new local!

I was visiting from canberra and this cafe was in walking distance so I dropped by to get a coffee. I can't remember the price but it was average. I ordered and virtually as I settled into a chair my coffee was ready. I didn't expect much as you will usually wait 5-10 min for a decent coffee in Canberra and a short time for a mediocre one. I am not exaggerating when I say this but it was the best coffee I have ever had. Since this time I have been in search for a coffee place that is up to par in my city. I am visiting Sydney in the next few days and am excited to return to this cafe!

My first time visit after a coffee recommendation by @flaxy. Such a popular place. Very much enjoyed my Cappuccino ($3.80) using a custom house blend apparently roasted somewhere in QLD. Good flavour and strength. Sort of reminded me of Allpress coffee flavour profile which I'm a fan of. Spotted some freshly baked Mixed Berry, Apple, Coconut & Nut Muffin ($4) on the counter. Moist and yummy as hoped filled with lots of fruit. Babyccino ($1) for Miss 1 year old came as all milk but sealed with a lid in a paper cup and a straw which keeps it pretty safe if dropped and she actually did drop it at one point and it only made a small mess spill. Bacon & Egg Roll ($9.50) comes with bacon, fried eggs, homemade aioli, tomato relish and rocket on a toasted panini. Pretty decent size and tasty. Nice roll. An easy one to enjoy as take away. There's stools outside for casual eating with your dog and more tables inside if you're lucky to get one. Service is efficient and switched-on. Quite friendly when under the pressure when busy. I've found parking in the area very limited and a challenge to find so good luck.

The French toast was splendid, it's nothing I've ever tried before. However as a "coffee bible listed" cafe, the quality of latte was so disappointing...

Small , cosy cafe. Pancakes and French toast are a must !!! Service was lovely and coffee was amazing. Always a good experience and will keep going back for more 😀

I went to Flat White twice this week to grab a takeaway coffee. As reiterated by many reviewers, the service was exceptionally poor. The wait staff just ignore you and don't seem to care whether they have your custom or not.
Declan Lewis
Ignored by staff on numerous occasions even when not busy. As a local wouldn't bother returning here for a meal. Take away coffee is good but the service needs work.

Ah Sydney... You may have a laughable public transport network, your property prices might be so high that only investment bankers and Chinese millionaires can afford to buy and half your drivers are maniacs, but no one does cafes like you (err... except maybe Melbourne). . Deep within leafy well-heeled Woollahra on Holdsworth Street sits Flat White; opposite the legendary Lord Dudley and in between the pretty terrace houses.

Love this place! Come here for breakfast or lunch. For breaky my go to is the Bircher muesli or the omelette, for lunch I love the pumpkin salad topped with grilled chicken and Harissa sauce. Chris there is just amazing and remembers what coffee you want to brings it the moment you sit down. If you're in the neighbourhood, make a visit.

Great coffee, food and service. Always feels very homely and comforting when you walk in.. If you haven't tried their pancakes you're missing out!
Life Of A Travel Czar
So I am back from my whirlwind trip to Melbourne and find myself outside the Flat White Cafe in Woollahra on a rather chilly Saturday morning. The Flat White Cafe is a small petite cafe nestled in the leafy streets of the inner eastern suburbs in Sydney. I am there to meet someone, who actually recommended the cafe to me. We have been chatting about this cafe for a while and recently got around to organising a late breakfast to catch-up for me to check it out! Is there anything (other than flying in an airplane) that beats a late breakfast? It’s the perfect way to kick-off a Saturday. I get there a little earlier and put our names down for a table… The guy is super friendly in taking names and organising tables and the turnover is quick so we are not waiting too long. Coffee is good - gives us a little kick we need for the morning. She has already warned me she is a toast and coffee kinda girl, so she goes for the Linseed Toast with Vegemite. A classic choice – simplicity is elegance.
Best For Breakfast
The menu is always interesting and tasty -- their porridge is, for example, quite simply to die for.

it was a sunday morning & the cafe was busy & it just got busier with a cue out the door by the time we left. the coffee is toby's estate & i had several - so good. my breakfast of poached eggs on sourdough w lemon spinach, crumbled fetta, toasted pine nuts & za'atar was fabulous! something i will myself be inspired to make at home. as you can see from the pics - other breakfasts ordered at the table were great! there was a lot of eating & not much talking while we all devoured our food! Be prepared to wait a bit for a table on the weekends. We had the Buttermilk Pancakes which were fluffy and delicious...and the Spanish Eggs which come with amazing Chorizo.

I have heard raving reviews of this place, from friends and ex colleagues and I can see why. Flat White is a relatively small cafe, but yet cozy. There are three seating area options: the counter along the open windows with bar stools, the stainless-steel-topped tables inside or outside on the path under the sun. M and I opted to sit inside, and I had the perfect view of the kitchen, whilst M had the view of the popular Lord Dudley Hotel. Started with my large skim flat white - there's really no point in starting a conversation without my shot of caffeine! It was a full day of eating ou

It’s always busy. I’d hate for it to get any more popular. But keeping such a gem to myself just feels too selfish.

This is the best cafe! They do the best scrambled eggs in Sydney, and they always have the yummiest specials. The staff are super lovely too, and we love how they know our names and coffee preferences. Our fav place!!

Excellent food, average service and coffee. If you're after an amazing french toast then this is the best in Sydney. Each time I go here the food is very good. The location is great and parking is never a problem even on a busy weekend. Unfortunately though the coffee is quite average in contrast to their food. A skim latte is enormous with far too much milk and a very large glass. The service has certainly deteriorated over the years of coming here. The second last time I was there one of the waiters was so rude to me that I didn't return for 6 months out of principal.
Overall I do like Flat White but only due to their excellent food but find that there are many other places that offer the full package nearby - great food, great coffee and amazing service.

Busy cafe. My friend and I came here for breakfast on a Monday and it was quite busy. After reading about their bad service, I was thinking of going elsewhere but glad I didn't as the staff who looked after us was friendly and when I asked for the biggest apple and berry muffin on the counter, he did just that. My friend enjoyed her omelette which was massive and I enjoyed my latte while my friend thought it was a bit weak.

I have seen the queues during the weekend, so ill probably stick to coming here during the week to avoid the crowd.

Worst ricotta hotcakes I have ever had! More like soggy pancakes with a few crumbs of ricotta dropped in.

At least the coffee is still good.

Being the only cafe in the area, Flat White think that means they can deliver rubbish service and terrible coffee. Please someone open up some competition near by!

Don't waste your time coming to Flat White. It seems like it has a lot going for it, but don't be fooled. The service is shocking with pretentious and unfriendly staff. I stood for 5 minutes waiting to place an order, however was overlooked by the waitress and barista. If it couldn't get worse, the waitress blatantly served a student behind me. I have never walked out of a cafe until today.
Jimmy
It is hard to fault this little cafe, good food, good coffee and fast. I eat here at least once a week and I am happy to call this my local. Great work guys!!!

So sorry. Elle, we are truly sorry to hear of your last visit to the cafe. This is very disappointing.

There has obviously been a breakdown with the communication or procedures for you and your partner to be overlooked on that day.

We are taking your experience very seriously and we want to find out how this could have happened. With your feedback we will work to improve on this and how to avoid future instances such as yours. I will send you a personal message and I hope you can help us understand how this could've happened so we can work on preventing this in the future.

Happy. After my negative review, I was personally contacted by the owner to rectify the issue and look at where the breakdown happened.
My partner and I were invited back to the cafe the weekend just past.... and I have to say the service and the food was great!
Flat White still remains one of my favourite cafe's in Sydney and I am just so glad that the owners take pride in customer service so that I can continue to come and enjoy what happens to be Sydney's best brunch spot! :)

-----22 Jul, 2013-----

Dissapointed. My Partner and I have visited this cafe many times and fell in love with the service and the food last year.
Untill last weekend sat 20th July we were utterly disgusted at the service particularly the male 'host' and female waitress. We werent really greeted, just asked 'do you want a table' then the female waitress walked off.. no 'okay let me see what I can do, would you like to order a take away coffee or juice while you wait?' we were ignored for 20 mins ... while the male 'host' had let 5 other groups of people take tables, while we stood there waiting. Clearly some favouritism going on there. The male 'host' was completely rude and made my partner and I feel like we were invisible. We werent spoken to, completely ignored. Its almost as if business is so good, that the staff dont need to be nice to thier customers.

Dont get me wrong, the food at Flat White is amazing but the service was so bad.. its not worth making the trip for the food. We will never visit this cafe again ....

The result - We walked out. Customers = LOST!

Only locals need apply. Unless you are a local, don't bother with this place. They treat non-locals with contempt and oddity. Recent visit arrived at 6.55am (5 mins before opening) and told it would be 10 minutes, then 3 minutes later some ( obviously) locals, waltzed in and sat down. Previous visit saw my coffee order put back as locals arrived. Sad, but don't bother.
LulaF
Wow and not in a good way. Standing at the counter to order a take away coffee, or even pay for food you've already eaten is HARD. You'd be lucky to get a "hello", "be with you in a moment" - maybe i'm invisible? And don't expect your takeaway coffee in a rush... 20min! And this is not just a one time experience. And god forbid ask why it's taking so long. "No one else has a problem with it"... OH REALLY?! Maybe everyone like me is hoping you guys will get it together because let's face it, your business at the moment is one of convenience for too many people, and we are slowly working out the good food isn't worth it.
Rach84
Yummy food and attentive as possible service. They are really busy, but food comes out fast.

Just A Cafe. I went to Flat white on Saturday morning ,Nothing different the food was average and the service was average .

My friends and clients always talk about Flat White but I don't understand it is just an average cafe .
Sorry

Third strike and you're out! Food was delicious, I had the ricotta pancakes - generous serving and yum. Coffee is consistently good. But, rude rude rude. Every time. I don't get it - why be in the industry if you don't like serving people?
Anita-m
Possibly the worst cafe in Sydney! Service was appalling, food was horrible. Would rather eat food out of the gutter! Ridiculously overpriced for the poor food and service. Never going back! Don't even bother trying...not worth it!
CharlieP
Blerg.... I had heard rave reviews and when ever passing by noticed that Flat White was always flowing with patrons. After going myself, I am perplexed as to why this is. Their menu, while interesting, is very overpriced, coffee very, very average and staff uninterested in being helpful...or hospitable.
No Doodie Foodie
Not such a well kept secret - always busy! But if you are taking a sick day from work on a weekday and are willing to spend $25 pp for breaky and a drink, do not look past the buttermilk pancakes - heaven on a plate
Matt
Well kept secret. It's a busy place for breakfast on the weekends, but that's mainly because of one thing: the pork sandwich. Nevermind that you don't really fancy pork, this is one dish you have to try! It has recently, finally(!) graduated from the specials board to the menu proper, and for good reason - it's a taste sensation!
