Review Press* Food & Wine - Adelaide

Hanmo Li
Dinner at the recently reopened @press_food_and_wine! This was from a couple of weeks ago. It was an absolutely fantastic meal! We went with a la carte rather than the feed me menu. The food was amazing. The wine selection was great. The service was excellent. Overall, a huge huge improvement over the old Press. . Gazander oysters: we normally aren't huge fans of oysters, but these were really nicely done šŸ™‚šŸ™‚. Tastes very fresh, and not too oyster-y. Good way to start off the meal! . Bread: nice warm bread, with a very smooth butter. I was very hungry when the bread got served, so it was perfect timing šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. . Potato skins, fromage blanc, tarragon: these stuffed potato skins were fantastic! They're super crunchy, and the stuffing was super creamy. Amazing dish šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤. . Chicken liver parfait, choux au craquelin, onion caramel: omg I totally loved their version of the chicken liver parfait! The choux pastry was excellent, and gave it a nice sweet flavour. The liver parfait was super smooth. Just absolutely perfection šŸ˜šŸ˜. . Seasonal cruditĆ©s, spiced yoghurt: nice pickled and fresh vegetables. Good to have along with the heavier dishes like the liver parfait. . Boston Bay pork ribs, pepper, lime, plum: these pork ribs were nice and tender, and the sauce was really interesting šŸ™‚šŸ™‚. Not like your typical pork ribs. . Kingfish crudo, olive oil, pink pepper, fennel: this dish tasted very fresh šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤. So delicious! . Kangaroo tartare, leek, yolk, potato: I must say I've never had kangaroo tartare before šŸ˜œ. Tastes a little bit like beef tartare, but this dish was delicious! It was very much full of flavour, but didn't really have a raw meat feel to it. . Abalone, chicken skin, root vegetables: I couldn't really taste the chicken skin, but this dish was nicely balanced. Lots of different flavours and textures šŸ™‚. . Dry-aged beef, beef fat vinaigrette, celeriac: Wow! This beef was excellent! It was soooooo good! Very tender. Full of flavour. Perfect šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜. . Boston Bay pork, bbq paste, zucchini: another good main dish. Big piece of nicely grilled pork chop. Can't go wrong šŸ¤¤. . Wood-grilled Murray cod, kohlrabi, native citrus: the cod was super tender, and the flavours were very nicely balanced, but it was a bit on the small side. I think if it was my main and we weren't sharing, it might not have been big enough šŸ¤·? . Potatoes, smoked salt, parsley: always love a bowl of delicious crispy potatoes šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤. . Wombok cabbage, green sauce: didn't think wombok would ever make it into a western restaurant šŸ˜œ, but it was a delicious side dish! Unexpected but good! . Lemon, yoghurt, lemon thyme: delicious dessert dish! The ice cream was a little bit like a semifreddo. Good balance of tangy lemon and sweet flavours šŸ˜. . Figs, honeycomb, vanilla: I always love having figs in a dessert dish šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤. This was so good! . Smoked chocolate, coffee, orange: this was a really interesting dish! I didn't know it was going to be like a mousse šŸ˜œ. It was very light, but creamy. yum!

Great nice restaurant in the CBD in Adelaide, nice tasty dishes with great producers of South Australia. The guys are very kind and attentive, the wine list is international and well curated. The venue is beautifully designed. Highly recommend

We ventured into the city last night for a meal at Press as we have wanted to go for a long time. It always gets highly recommended by friends so we were expecting great things. We opted for the $90 feed me menu but next time think I would just order from the entrees and mains list as we got venison (which I donā€™t really like) and rump which was nice but not my favourite cut of steak. The kingfish Crudo was delicious as was the beetroot dish, the prawns were tasty but a few things felt a bit flat and needed a bit more seasoning. All in all it was an enjoyable experience, the service was excellent and it was a beautiful restaurant but for me it wasnā€™t as flavourful and delicious as I was expecting. I would go back and order our own menu next time.

Definitely a must eat place in Adelaide. Service is excellent and food were top notch. Oysters were so fresh and tasty; definitely try their beef dish, any of it! Roast chicken was so juicy and well marinated with generous serving. Staff always attended your water and drinks, ensuring everything was fine. Would definitely come back!

Hubby and I had an enjoyable date night at Press*. Lovely ambience, great service (5 stars for Miguel!) and food which delivered but didn't exceed expectations. The highlight for us was the dry aged beef and celeriac.

I took my mum (50+) and grandma (90+) for the set lunch on mother's day and we were all left underwhelmed and still hungry. For $90 a head I expected more. Our first dish was sourdough bread which came out burnt and the crust was hard as a rock. I wanted to believe it was just meant to be hard on the outside but soft on the inside but from the looks of the other tables it was just ours that was burnt. The pork main was nice but two dishes to share between 5 people is why we were still hungry at the end. To finish off, the dessert would of been a delight but it had been sitting out for too long and the cream had started to melt. Overall, though some dishes were done poorly, others were done well but it was definitely different even if it was lacking. I'm not writing this to put anyone off but I hope this makes it easier for people to chose where to go based on who they might be with and for what occasion.

We were a group of 5 who were travelling to Adelaide from Melbourne. We came across Press and decided to make a booking weeks in advance as it looked like a popular and well rated place. Unfortunately it did not hit the mark with us, which was unfortunate as all other places we ate at in Adelaide/Barossa Valley over the weekend were fabulous. Firstly, we arrived at our booking at 8pm and were seated by the door, given a drinks menu to start. After about 5-10 minutes we tried to get someone's attention to order some drinks but were not able to get the attention of any staff. After about 15 minutes with no one to take our drinks order or give us a food/la carte menu, we ended up grabbing a food menu ourselves from the front desk. After a few minutes we decided what we were going to order to eat, however we still could not get the attention of any staff. We made eye contact and had our hand up to signal a waitress, who made eye contact on more than one occasion but did not at least acknowledge us to even tell us she would be a moment or so. After a while another staff member came over and took our order. Once we made the order the food came out as entrees and mains. The entrees were decent, with the potato skins and kangaroo tartare being highlights. However, the beetroot carrots were quite disappointing. Unfortunately, that was the best of it, because when the mains arrived (we ordered 4/5 mains - Chicken, Steak, Pork, Murray Cod). The murray cod tasted bland and had little flavour. The Steak was extremely chewy despite being medium rare (which was recommended by the wait staff)(Also quite pricey for 5 slices). Although, it was the chicken that was by far the worst dish, which looked half eaten, tasted very average and was plated horribly. The pork was the only decent main with a nice sauce, however it was nothing mind blowing. Considering the service and quality of food we received, we did not even want to consider what was available for dessert, and could not wait to leave after the mains. Sounding a little nit-picky they had also forgotten one of our drinks and gave me the wrong beer (pale ale instead of draught), when I brought it up with the staff they were very hesitate to change my drink and said that's the way their draught was, despite the obvious colour/taste differences, and I had also noticed draught on other patrons tables). Keeping in mind the $40p/head deposit if we cancelled our booking as well as the price of food and drinks we expected a lot more from Press. Perhaps having such good experiences in the days before around Adelaide/SA we had a high standard set which is why it was even more of a disappointing last dinner in Adelaide. Unfortunately we will not go back to Press and would not recommend it to any friends or family who are in Adelaide.

Both the food and service was faultless for our luncheon tasting menu. The food was so fresh, and the flavours beautifully balanced. The waitstaff were both friendly and professional. We could not believe the quality and quantity for the price. A must!

Outstanding!!! Food was beyond delicious! For entree we has the wood smoked salmon pate- this was silky smooth in texture and when combined with the croutons, frizze lettuce, pickles and fine chopped red onion it was the complete package. Mains we had the fish or the day again outstanding and the rib caps (perfect medium rear) with marrow bone was cooked to perfection! The drinks were really good as well and our waiter Umberto made it the complete package for us! He was paying attention to the fine details so many waiters/waitress look over. Topping us our water glasses when they were less then half way. Checking on our meals. Both coming from hospitality, myself a waitress and my partner a chef it was super refreshing to receive this type of service! 10/10 guys we were beyond impressed and will defiantly be back again soon.

Was giving this place a second shot after good food and poor service last time. Again The food was really good but the service was poor at best. Really a shame as it would be so easy to improve but sat waiting to order, waiting to have plates cleaned and waiting to pay the bill. Noticed the same for many other guests.

Booked dinner last night for three and it was excellent. Visiting Adelaide and had heard about this place and it was so good. Food, venue, staff, wine all so good and one of us re booked for later in the week. Well done guys, great service and food. Loved the straciatella salad, wood grilled squid, truffled mushroom pithivier, pappardelle with crab and chilli....
Karen Harmer
The food was exceptional. Drinks a bit pricey but the quality of food made up for it. Staff were friendly and willing to think outside the square. Definitely recommend.
Dianne Goode
Enjoyed excellent birthday lunch with my friend. Couldn't fault the service and the food was even better. We enjoyed share plates of croquettes, pork buns, quail and the best ever crispy potatoes. Quail was to die for, beautiful chargrilled flavour and the salad complimented it beautifully too. Definitely will be returning!

A night well spent! We sat up stairs in a booth, and ordered the tasting menu. Exquisite. So many excellent dishes to try, stand out was the veal croquette and pork belly. Great spanish soundtrack playing in the background. Highly recommend.
Emily Sun
Always my favourite. I just love the surprises from the tasting menu accompanied by the extensive selection of vino, not to mention the top tiered service ļæ½
John Wright
Food was exceptional! Disappointed we only got to taste ONE dessert though, you'd think with a tasting plate they'd make two mini desserts( as the tasting plate at Golden Boy does). The table of about twenty across from us were terrible. They were so LOUD they were shouting to be heard. They got a lot of looks from other diners. Enough of the groans! Our Scottish waiter was excellent, knowledgable, friendly and efficient. Now for the food; the croquettes were delicious, as was the beef tartare and the pork belly, so yummy. The bread baked on site was delicious too. Well recommended!
Anne Shrubsole
The wine was devine, the food amazing, the staff were over the top helpful, one of the family members with us was ceoliac & the staff made it possible for us to have share plates that all of us could share. Well done PRESS keep up the good work.

These guys are great. No reservation, no problem. Great service, terrific food. Itā€™s my default go-to place as Iā€™m rarely organized enough to have a reservation!

Amazing food, excellent service, fabulous decor - everything and more that I was looking for in my first dining experince in Adelaide, wouldn't hesitate to recommed this great little place to anyone who enjoys good food and wine.

Fantastic food. Great wine list and friendly staff. Coming from a jaded Sydneysider!!

We had exceptional food, sauces. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient yours sincerely from Aliceann, Paul Neil and Nokki

My partner and I stumbled upon Press on Waymouth Street.. (Monday night) On first impressions it appeared to be very popular with local working professionals. We were seated at a communal table and were waited upon by young vibrant friendly staff. In short the meals were superb.. We ordered 2 different cuts of steak which both melted in ones mouth.. Deserts were also taste sensations... A big thank you to Sally (owner) for a wonderful dining experience.. We will be telling all of our friends in country SA (Flinders Ranges) to visit your great restaurant. All the best. Regards Paul and Astrid, Quorn. SA

Portion sizes far too small, came home and had to eat a second lunch. Crab pasta, no seasoning, lack of flavour, overcooked. Really disappointing. Kingfish sashimi was nice.
Fabian Folghera
Have been here a few times and cannot recommend enough! If friends ever come and visit from out of town or overseas itā€™s the first place I send them! Go with a big group, order the tasting menu and say yes to the offal!!!

Steak is juicy and pasta with crab is lovely. Nice serving. Waiting time for food is OK. Dessert and coffee are delicious are excellent. Although we havenā€™t drunk wine, I believe that it good too.

I had a Friday lunch with friends at this restaurant. It has probably been 3 - 4 years since I last dined here. Reception was prompt & friendly. We were led to our table on the upper floor. The service overall was great & the wine list was extensive. The kitchen was very helpful with a couple of changes to the dishes we ordered. My favourite dish was the fried morcilla sausage, with an added egg. Overall though, I must say I was underwhelmed with the food.
Roary Will Eat You
What a fantastic place to eat...great food and service. The steak was perfect and cooked medium rare.<br/><br/>Highly recommend and if you have the time book a table upstairs. <br/><br/>

Always good to spend an evening here. Consistency in high standard of food each time I visit is impressive. The burger is an exercise in sublime, sheer simplicity executed with technical precision.
Anna
It really is off putting when the food is so good but the service is so inattentive, for the type of accolades this restaurant gets I would expect better. <br/><br/>The waiter was good until the main arrived and then she forgot about me. My water wasnā€™t filled up. The waiter came and said whether Iā€™d like a dessert menu to which I said yes. Then she completely forgot about me. Just ignored. I had to ask another waiter to get me the menu, then order and pay... the waiter continued to ignore. Would probably not come back

Sat downstairs at the walk in area. Same menu as the restaurant upstairs. Service was terrific. Good wine recommendation. We ordered from the ā€œinteresting wine varietiesā€ section. Family selections were miso cured salmon to start and, surprisingly for a family of carnivores, the wood roasted cauliflower with labnah and crunchy roasted potatoes. Dessert choice was the Panna cotta closely followed by the bomb Alaska. Enjoy!

I attended a function dinner at Press and was really impressed. The staff were all fantastic all night - excellent service. The food was brilliant - I ate things that I wouldn't normally eat. Great atmosphere.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE! We decided to do the tasting menu and omg each and every dish was visually spectacular, flavouresome, fresh and straight up delicious!! Flavour combinations well put together and cooked to perfection. The overall experience of Press Food and Wine was everything I look for...I was in heaven! Fabulous staff who were attentive, friendly, yet subtle...beautiful ambiance created by modern decor and timber frames...warm and inviting and most importantly incredible food, great work chefs! One small negative - the unexpected per bottle charge for table water.
Foodlife
Staff are friendly and attentive. In terms of the dishes, the flavours were interesting and fresh. The brisket was well flavoured though a bit fatty. The chicken was a bit on the dry side though dish worked well as a whole. Overall rating is 3.5/5

Very good high quality food: we had the corn and beetroot salads , king fish , chili prawns , steakkk yummm all tasty !! Great ambiance and set up .. staff very friendly and professional, highly recommended
Fitmar
start off by saying the staff here are so kind and lovely and make the experience amazing. The are confident in the menu and assist in any dietary need suggestions. We had a fairly large group of about 12 for an engagement party dinner and were even eating with fussy young children and everyone enjoyed what they received. The adults opted for a tasting menu which allowed us to sample numerous dishes and the young water shared burgers and fries and that kept them happy. The restaurant is fairly pricy however you pay for an amazing experience and an atmosphere that is unbeaten
Renato
We had an early booking for dinner and were seated in a booth upstairs. Service started ok but rapidly became half-arsed and verging on surly. The food was great though, so the kitchen made up for the lacklustre service.

Some friends recommend Press so we thought we would give it a go while in Adelaide. The menu is one of the most pretentious Iā€™ve seen- Iā€™ll give you the shortened, simplified version. We ordered the burrata (cheese) and heirloom tomatoes on sourdough, the quail salad thingy and the veal croquettes. The service was slow to order and pay but quite quick from the kitchen. The veal was very tasty and I enjoyed the tomato and cheese on toast but it was impossible to eat with a knife and fork. The quail really wasnā€™t very enjoyable and I only ate one small piece. We ordered the dark and stormy to drink which was nice but tiny. Overall Iā€™d recommend saving your money for better restaurants. I donā€™t mind paying good money for great food, but this wasnā€™t it. The real kicker was the extra $6 on the bill for water (which just looked like a regular glass bottle of tap water that almost all restaurants have. We werenā€™t told it was extra and we barely had any). We were also charged for two small pieces of bread we didnā€™t order, but were told was for charity when we got the bill. I donā€™t mind paying the very small fee for a charity but it would be polite to tell you beforehand.

I've been to this restaurant since 2013 for graduations, dates and birthdays. At the beginning it was the one restaurant that I would recommend to anyone who asked me.Ā Ā <br/>I only writing this review, as over the years the menu, food and quality has declined over the years.<br/><br/>Dishes that have been removed over the years that shouldn't, new dishes added to the menu doesn't live up to this prestige place that it once was.<br/><br/>For the price point of the current menu vs the flavours and dishes, I would recommend else where.

A dinner I anticipated before we arrived at Adelaide.Ā  Truffled mushroom pie, spice-rubbed quail, crispy pig's ear & a mixed-grill with morcilla, brains, minute steak, offal sausage, sweetbreads & poached egg were our picks.Ā  The quail was juicy; sweetbreads were beautiful; brains were a bit disappointing - bland; steak was nice; morcilla & offal sausage were good but not outstanding; pig's ear was also crispy but not a deserved "wow." Mushroom pie looked good but I haven't tasted it.<br/>(Food - 4/5; Service - 3/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

Outstanding! The rhubarb bomb desert was amazing and it was on fire. We chose the $75 Press tasting menu and it was totally worth it! Great service as well

While suckling pig, lambā€™s brains and calfā€™s tongue might sound intimidating (or at least it does to me), Press* Food & Wine really has something for everyone. A fact my fussy family can attest to, all raving to this day about Press*. Which is a miracle given Mum is allergic to egg, dairy and fish; my mother-in-law is vegetarian; and Dad doesnā€™t eat anything thatā€™s outside the border of meat and three veg. Six years on, it's still one of my most favourite Adelaide restaurants.
Isabella
Just dined in this restaurant and was just perfect. Friendly service, nice environment and brilliant food. Especially wagyu eye filet was just perfect and I absolutely fall in love with this. Beef tartare, oysters and salmon were also awesome. I defiantly will be back again soon :-)

Roast pumpkin and feta - Amazing! Scotch fillet - Perfect! Pair that with some sides and fantastic service. Not to mention the beautiful selection of wines! 5 out of 5!

Press* hands down has my second favourite burger in Adelaide! Well itĀ isĀ the same as the B&B burger at Bread and Bone LOL. Everything about the burger is perfect - the soft bun, meaty medium beef patty, cheese, smokey bacon and sauces just make an amazing combination. Only thing is the burger comes with onion rings, without the option of changing it to fries - so I always have to order it as an extra side. I've tried a few things off the menu and haven't tried anything that wasn't amazing! The downstairs area also have a laid back vibe with its raised communal tables.

I had previously been to press for dinner in the upstairs area and walked away with a full stomach and good dining experience having had the tasting menu. My second visit was for lunch in the downstairs area. The three dishes that were shared were of good quality, presentation and flavour however it was the service that prompted this review. Im hesitant about rating an establishment based purely on the service alas it was warranted here. Unfortunately the three girls who alternated in serving us appeared quite rude, lacked interest and our order was placed after being there for 45mins when it wasn't busy. I'm not sure if there were underlying circumstances however it should be addressed. Evidently, the manner of the staff in the front of house can detract from the hard work in the back of the house and this can influence whether people return. You have an important job. Dining out should be a pleasurable experience where people walk away thinking its a great all rounder.

My best restaurant in this city. Food and service are excellent. The squid is recommended. Please make reservation otherwise u only can sit downstair.

Overrated. This place might be trendy, but it doesn't really have much going for it- its become yet another venue with more style than substance unfortunately. Food is okay at best, service generally average and arrogant, the staff so disinterested you feel like you're in the way by being there. Wine list is okay but pricey. I have been many times over the years but these days there's better options around so I have no need to come back.
MrJan
Great Place. Enjoyed the tasting menu. All courses were great, however the dessert was a lot smaller and only one. <br/>The service was stellar, I liked the atmosphere as well. Memorable where the Tatar, couscous, ceviche and the rump.<br/>Great drinks and wine selection. Will come back.

Booked over a month early to visit Press F&W for Valentine's Day as I know they're incredibly popular. This is the second time I've been to Press and have been impressed both times. Fantastic atmosphere, dimmed lights with light chatter/music. The food prepared by the restaurant is always beautifully displayed and very fresh. My favourite dishes of the night was the grilled squid and the beef tartare. With so much food to start, I would've loved something fruity and lighter for dessert. Nonetheless, would definitely come back again to try a different tasting menu.
AdventuresofA&A
Had the worst time at this restaurant, booked in with hopes of a dining experience arrived at 8 pm and began to notice straight away that standards here were not what they once were. Example two of the wait staff were wearing running shoes, not that it's a big deal but at this level the details make the restaurant. Was seated and ordered an aperitif that wasn't on there menu which apparently isn't allowed here, you can only order cocktails from the limited menu on offer. One of the cocktails that we ordered was unpalatable. We ordered a bottle of wine that wasn't available and again not a big deal but again details mater. We ordered a few smaller shared dishes and the famous cote de beef to share. While the food was generally very tasty it didn't feel like the same amount of love and skill that I remember from Andrew Davies when dining at bistro Dom and even Press when it first opened. After finishing the first two shared dishes we waited for our last two entrees while we finished our bottle of white wine.<br/>We were taken aback when we received our beef (mains) followed by our last two entrees.<br/>After requesting for our section to explain that the order was incorrectly sent out, the waitress accepted her mistake; however refused to do anything about it. Further on aggravating the situation she insisted that we have our entrees while the beautiful beef just lay out under a heat lamp (that was her best possible solution after accepting that she sent out the order incorrectly!)<br/><br/>This further annoyed us and our experience was on a decline.<br/>Finally, finishing our entrees we again requested for a fresh main which we were thankfully accommodated with.<br/><br/>Overall, wouldn't recommend; give it a miss.<br/>This restaurant has gone a long way, but in the wrong direction since the opening.Ā <br/><br/>

This place is really nice feel, love the burgers. Recommend a visit even if a tad expensive for the drinks. Service was friendly and professional. Worth a visit.

We arrived at 11:06 on a Thursday and were told they were closed. If you advertise for a midnight closing time then don't close at 11, it doesn't matter if you're 'quiet' you get paid them same..

The restaurant has 2 levels. Downstairs the space is relaxed and casual with its communal style dining. Long high bench tables beside wood panelled walls give off a warming aura. Upstairs the space is flooded with natural light and is a much more intimate setting with its plush private booths and tables.

Press*Ā food and wine has been a steady favourite amongst local diners and visitors alike. Situated on Waymouth Street, it always looks full yet Iā€™ve never dined there in all these years. Finally it took a foodie friend to say ā€œCā€™mon, you have to try itā€. Needless to say sheā€™s one of those long standing fans of Press*.

I couldn't decide between Delicatessen and Press. Both are closely located, Delicatessen has an exceptional Zomato rating and the menu reads nicely albeit more standard. Press on the other hand has a grill and advertises a section for offal. I am quite selective with my offal but moreso than the average person and finding a place that can execute the nose-to-tail concept (or more parts of it) it quite difficult.

Walked passed this place on the way to my hotel. Was drawn to the design of the interior. As traveling alone the bench tables appealed for solo dining. First impressions good. Staff friendly and helpful with wine selection and post dinner drink places. Recommended maybe Mae which I heard about in Brisbane also. Now waiting for my main to arrive. Ordered a porterhouse steak with creamy mash. Felt like a hearty meal as Adelaide night is a little cool at the moment. The place has a nice buzz. It has filled up quickly. A mixed crowd. Lighting just right. So just ate my meal and on a second glass of red. Better suited to the meal than the last glass. But still sticking to the Adelaide wine theme. So now back to the food. I have to say 'wow'. I haven't had such a great porterhouse ever. Plus the creamy mash. Perfect. I'm full and content. Thanks Press. Okay I need to add now. I was content but the site of dessert meant I had not reached full status. Having the creme caramel with blackberries. Not sure I will make it to maybe Mae :-)

Typical casual Australian cafe. Industrial lights, warm timbre on one wall and floor, and industrial dark grey paint on another wall. The staff are polite if somewhat uninvolved. Kumamoto oysters were spectacular. Kingfisher sashimi was less than ordinary. Beef tartare and yellowfin tuna were decent. Angus ribeye was nicely charred but overdone for medium rare. Better than average cafe that has potential to do a lot better
Ali
Have been here quite a few times and while the food is okay, the service is generally a let down. The staff (especially management) seem to have a fair amount of arrogance about them, which is pretty unnecessary. Quite a shame because I feel this place could provide such a good experience if the staff were simply friendly.

Went on a Thursday night for date night, the place was pretty busy. Been here a few times but haven't been in a while. Service was great, very attentive service. Got served the bread, was so good I was tempted to ask for more. Skip to my main - the crab pasta. Nice generous serve just how I like it. Super tasty. Generous with the crab! Dessert was the soufflƩ, perfect end to a beautiful meal. This place doesn't disappoint. Will be back!

An impressive wine bar/restaurant with a lovely ambiance and dishing up truly inventive dishes. A lot of the dishes on the menu have some sort of Asian twist, marrying Asian flavours with modern style dining. Everything under the "smaller" section of the menu sounded so intriguing, but being the adventurous eater I am, I opted for the "Honey-roasted sweetbreads, sauteed speck, turnips & cauliflower puree", a dish in the offal section of the menu.<br/><br/>It was my first time having sweetbreads, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It turned out being very similar to brains - a slightly soft, almost puree like type of texture, but more held-together. The sweetbreads were served bite-sized, so they sort of reminded me of fried fish balls, except a little mushier. I know I haven't made them sound too enticing, but they were actually rather delicious. The saltiness from the small speck pieces was nicely offset by the lovely and smooth cauliflower puree, and both complemented the sweetbreads perfectly. A very well-balanced, flavourful dish.<br/><br/>I also ordered a leafy side salad. Nothing special, but executed well with fresh ingredients.<br/><br/>I enjoyed my meal here immensely, and am looking forward to returning to try other dishes on the menu!

This place delivers, time and time again! Press Food and Wine is a reliable and central eatery. <br/>During the most recent visit, I was with a group of 6, and we managed to score a table without a booking on a Saturday evening! The service was slightly preoccupied but good. <br/>I do like the busy vibe of this place, but it can get a tad noisy. But most importantly, in the food department it was solid! From beef tartare, carpaccio, mini sliders (although slightly overpriced as they really are miniature) to my truffled mushrooms and taleggio pithivier, the food varied but it was all quite delicious! Recommend!

Really good food. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and bar menu and friendly service. Must go for something on the fancier but cool side.

Absoloutely magnificent all round! Very thorough with ingredients, serving sizes, wine menu, atmosphere and general all round experience. One of the best in adelaide.

cool place. had a monday night business dinner at Press and it didn't disappoint. classy joint. I had the sardines starter and the duck main. others had a steak and the harissa lamb. everything was polished off. delicious.<br/><br/>great staff, nice setting, interesting drinks list.

Love this place! Food is awesome. I tried the press burger and blue crab pasta. Everything is perfect! As a visitor, I only stayed in Adelaide for three days and I went to this place twice! Definitely will back to this city for this restaurant! Dessert is incredible. Service is good. <br/>

Had the steak there on Tuesday night. Tried to book one day in advance for Friday, but was told fully booked. The steak they make is one of the best in Adelaide. Fresh and tasty. We ordered 850g for share for two and we almost finished it as it is really good. The dining environment is relaxing and quite enjoyable. Definitely will be back again.

Had a family dinner at Press, table of 15, including a vegetarian, a vegan, and a pregnant woman who's pretty strict on those rules. Had to have one of the tasting menus because of the size of our group. <br/>Fabulous food - everyone happy with the amazingly tasty dishes; the vegan was particularly happy with the variety of dishes she ate. Great service, lovely venue, good wine list too. Press made it a very special night.

Stop the press! Now having had two burgers in Adelaide, todayā€™s burger at Press* Food & Wine is definitely, without a doubt, the best burger in Adelaide. But didnā€™t I say that yesterday about another burger?! Am I just a burger-whore going around telling every burger theyā€™re the best Iā€™ve ever had, and that I love them? Possibly. But Press*ā€¦ Oh Press*ā€¦

Ordered The Press Burger which comes with side of onion rings (not fries), not a very big serving so if you hungry this may not be for you, but very tasty & fresh burger which is probably the 3rd best burger I've tasted (Grill'd still tops the list), thought the onion rings were nice would have still preferred a side of fries as standard, beef pattie cooked to perfection being juicy with other ingredients all being of good quality, for the $18.90 you get what you pay for, a quality burger that tastes great ;)

Hadn't been to Press for some time. Really excelled with food. Carpaccio delicious and pork belly cooked to perfection. Sliders still on menu from previous visit and they didn't disappoint. Service quite good, took a while for our waiter to become friendly but he was attentive and helpful. Wines a bit expensive and really would prefer if glasses weren't continuously topped up!! Will definitely be back.

Book early or try your luck downstairs!! We walked in on a Saturday night and the wait was quite minimal. The place was buzzing with happy people enjoying good food!<br/>We started with the tuna sashimi and chorizo as entrees - yum! Tuna was fresh (though a touch too much olive oil for my taste). We then shared a porterhouse steak (the menu says medium rare unless ordered otherwise and that's what we got!) and a lamb rump steak with eggplant on the side. Both were very tasty, but sadly came without chips - which we ordered on the side - fries, no chunky chips available. We were far too full for dessert but watched on enviously as a bombe Alaska was set alight nearby! On the plus - great food! On the minus - no chunky chips! Not a cheap night out - $160 for two with a few drinks. We sat on the "side" bench.. The service was almost a little too attentive!

I always enjoy dining here. The food is delicious and well presented. Its well priced and I just really like the atmosphere. Highly recommend. Would not hesitate in coming back again and again.

First night in Adelaide, a friend and I decided to try out press as it was rated one of the top restaurants in Adelaide city. We had to wait a while to get a table as it was Saturday night and we didn't have a booking. Luckily waiter guided us to a trendy bar called proof, tucked away behind the restaurant which was a great place for drinks while we waited for a table. The food was worth the wait! We had the crab pasta and char grilled lamb, both superbly cooked. Overall, very satisfied with my visit to Press!

One of the cheapest tasting menus I have ever seen, but don't let the price fool you. The food here at Press are full of flavour and the service is great.

Hands down the best burger in Adelaide, it really is on another level. There are few places that are able to blend a fine dining with a casual atmosphere but Press does it very well.

We had a lovely lunch there and were lucky that it was a quiet day so we didn't have any noise concerns. We both loved our meals (steak and fish) and loved the wine and spirits list also. The only downside was the waitress was a bit flat. I guess we were happy and chatty and she seemed to find us ... ?tiresome? who knows what was going on her life that day, and i have plenty of sympathy of waitstaff - it's a tough job! I'm sure it was just a bad day (for her) and we'll certainly revisit.

Came after the day night test match as a walk-in. Only a brief wait at the bar before we were seated. Interesting menu and we ordered a few smaller plates to share. Amazing quinoa salad so fresh and popping with flavour! Only a short wait for food too despite it being very busy. Great bar staff whipped up some tasty vodka limes too. Only downside is that it is very noisy, but will def return for the food!

Dropped in on a Saturday night and managed to snag a table for two on the bench seats on the lower level. Really enjoyed everything we ordered, in particular the pork belly main and the sliders. A little bit on the pricey side but well worth the price tag.

A perfect place for double date night. We got a nice little corner booth for the group of us. The food was very impressive, with the pork buns being my favourite dish! My steak was cooked perfectly and they were happy to substitute the mushroom sauce for a delicious bƩarnaise. The only thing that we were a little unsure about was when it came time to get the bill and we were charged for the table bread. However, once we read the little card that went with it and saw that it was for charity, we figured that was ok.
Chips Before Dips
Definitely one of my favourite spots in Adelaide. Have visited several times and always been astounded at the quality of food and service. Highly recommend

So I've been waiting to dine at Press for a while but my wallet has been protesting in fear. I don't blame it, we spent a frivolous $157 for dinner and drinks between two. Though expensive and some may say overpriced, every dish that hit my taste buds was like I was in food heaven. We started with the roasted pork bun, kewpie which was seemingly delicate and delicious - the juicy pork, soft bun, Japanese mayo and crunchy cucumber all molded together effortlessly. Next, the quail salad was also delectable. I enjoyed the wood grilled squid and accompanying chimichurri; there was just enough flavour but not too much to overpower the well textured tentacles. The Hereford pepper rump was cooked to medium rare perfection, not over-cooked like many places do and every bite melted in my mouth. The confit onion accompanying it worked well in its f(l)avour and the cocktails and ciders satiated my alcohol desire. The rest of the drinks menu offers an expansive wine list while adventurous eaters should explore from the raw and offal menu. Service is professional and I enjoyed our slightly sarcastic, sassy waitress. I have mixed feelings of the set up - we dined downstairs in the classy yet casual bar room, however I didn't like the long tables, enforcing you to sit in close proximity to strangers dining and hearing about their adventurous Tinder dates while the dim lighting hindered my eyesight. One rookie mistake was made; our order was mixed and we initially got brought the spatchcock instead of the quail but hey I guess the fact that they're both small birds may get confusing.

First time in Adelaide and was taken to one of the best establishment. The vib is warm and sophisticated crowd. The produce used for the dishes are simply fresh and stunning. Not to mention excellent selection of local wines
Feed Me, Adelaide
Press has been a venue high on my personal list of ā€˜must visitā€™ places for a while now. Since stumbling across a supplier of theirs (Ngeringa Vineyard) and them explaining their approach and the paddock to plate theory, as well as utilising the entire animal, this really did pique my interest. Combine this with the fact that it is just a short stroll from my office, it all lined up as an all round good idea.

Read many good reviews on press* so we knew we had to make a reservation for dinner here whilst in Adelaide. Booked via email a few weeks in advance and the staff responded accordingly.<br/><br/>The restaurant was huge. 2 floors.. Definitely a lot more louder downstairs for the bar/lounge scene. Plenty of tables up stairs for the dinner guests. Our booking and 7pm but the restaurant didn't really got filled up till about 8?<br/><br/>Only disappointment is that we were seated next to a large table booking (approx 15) so they were quite loud. Not sure why they didn't spread out the diners across the room rather then place everyone in one corner..<br/><br/>Other then that everything else was perfect!!! Staff was attentive and efficient, foods was defiantly the highlight!!! We ordered the pork belly salad to share. Definitely not a small dish.. Would be great to eat with rice? For main my partner ordered the scotch fillet and i got the confit duck. All the flavours worked well with each other. Nothing was too over powering.<br/><br/>Food came out in a timely manner. Unfortunately we were too full to have dessert there :( def will return i. The future!!!

Oh the food, the heavenly food. And the wine list. YUM. Makes my mouth water every time I think about it. Don't go here if you want a cheap meal, do go here if you want a phenomenal one. Didn't quite get 5 coz it's a bit dim and loud for me (oh my gosh I'm getting old), but almost all can be forgiven for the deliciousness that was served up to us. Worth a visit!

The decor is on trend but I founder a bit devoid of life.. However this was more than made up for by the delightful attentive staff who clearly enjoy working at Press. The wine list is sensational any we settled on a glass of Tuon Shiraz from Adelaide hills. This was the perfect accompaniment to the Pork belly - crackling was perfect and the onion anchovy and olive relish was deliciously different (could do with more anchovy flavour for me). Husband was excited to see sweetbread on the menu and was thrilled that items cooked to perfection. We ate downstairs and we're happy with the experience. Can recommend.

Foodie group and I couldn't wait to try Press, we had just come back from a Melbourne Foodie weekend and with an interstate visitor in tow, we decided to try Press. How incredibly disappointing. What on earth is all the fuss about? Yes, it is a great space upstairs, trendy, funky, cool, chic, but for me, it's about the food and there was no about the food. The place was so busy and so loud, at max capacity and it was only a Monday night! We started out with several of the small plates and stressed very clearly to the waitress, that there be enough to share of each dish, for 6 people. This was not the case. The charred squid was nice but we only got the tinciest amount each, mind you, we were told that we would need 3 serves to accommodate 6 people. Well, you will see in the below photo what those 3 serves are. The parfait was flavourless and the croutons way too hard. Pork Belly salad had barely any pork and again we just managed a scraping each on our plates. The rest of the dishes were pretty much the same. The mains were just as sad, Foodie 1 had rump (chewy) with bernaise, not enough bernaise to finish the dish, fries were terrible, no one ate them. Foodie 2 had beef cheek, tender enough, but no bang for buck, just not enough flavour. Foodie 3 had brains! Brains were pan fried, but not crispy. Brains must have a crispy coating or it doesn't really work, (personal opinion). Foodie 4 had spatchcock, said the flavour was nice, but chicken was dry. Foodie 5 had pork belly, a better dish but a strange combination of accompaniments, I believe sweet potato puree nice, but then onions, anchovies and olives, it only need one salt content and really needed a sauce. Foodie 6, me, had to send my dish back, it was inedible. This was the special of the day, schnapper with cauliflower puree, peas, smoked eel and veloute sauce. Schnapper was overcooked and dry, the super strong eel obliterated every other flavour on the dish. The presentation of this dish? well? Put it this way, I would never have let it leave the kitchen. Didn't order any dessert as we just didn't want to stay. I couldn't help thinking as I looked around the room, "how much pressure is this kitchen under?" I think it's very sad when places are packed to the max, kitchen is under pressure and then it shows on the plate. If you are going to have a high turnover of patrons, then the kitchen needs to be able to handle it and produce near perfect dishes every time. Restaurateurs should be careful as inconsistency will sneak up on you and get you in the end....

Probably the best restaurant in town at the moment. Have not been disappointed yet. I've had the suckling pig feast with 10 friends and it was fantastic. Lots of entrees and then the suckling pig comes out and is cut up at your table! All the trimmings as well. It was $80 a head but we got far more than we paid for in my opinion. Their regular menu is also amazing. If you love meat then this is the place for you. They're also well known for their offal. I've had the ox tongue which was surprisingly tender and full of flavour. Will keep coming back and hope they keep doing the same things for years to come!

Wow, wow, wow!!!<br/><br/>The "let us feed you" menu was amazing. I have never eaten so much. <br/><br/>The mash potato was the best I've ever had in my life. <br/><br/>4 courses of deliciousness. <br/><br/>I would really recommend going here for a special occasion. <br/><br/>It's somewhere that isn't cheap but it's worth the money but thanks to a voucher from Zomato I had a complimentary meal. Thanks so much Zomato.

We were quite disappointed with Press. We are foodies and eat out regularly but Press failed on several dishes and given the very high prices this is not really easily excusable. <br/><br/>The small pork buns were excellent (at $9 each for two mouthfuls they better have been) but the rest of the meals were just passable or downright below average. The pork belly had a very strong stench to it, the desert at $16 was so bad I didn't even finish it and in fact I much preferred a St Louis ice cream I had earlier in the day at less than half the cost!<br/><br/>The seating arrangement downstairs is also wrong. You are crammed like sardines seating right next to strangers on a communal table all in the name of the restaurant maximizing number of guests through the door. <br/><br/>There MUST be better places in Adelaide I hope. Skip it and try somewhere else. Not at all what it's cracked up to be. VERY high prices for very below average fair.

Loved my experience at the Press! :) we visited a while back on a weekday. Service was impeccable, and the food was tasty too! Would definitely return!

Beautiful atmosphere, we sat upstairs in the booth, 6 fit quite cosy. The food was delicious, I had the pork belly with mash potatoes. The staff was lovely and attentive. Recommend.

Press continues to be one of my favourite places in Adelaide.Ā  Itā€™s simple contemporary Australian food done really well and itā€™s consistently good. Ā Itā€™s handy to have restaurants that you can be confident in recommending to others. Ā Downstairs is more casual with shared wooden benches ā€“ a great place for a meal, a snack or just a drink, and itā€™s great that the kitchen stays open all day.Ā  You need to book for the upstairs dining area which is a loft-style space, a little more formal, with white tablecloths.

Was not disappointed at all. Fairly busy for a midweek meal, so bookings are a must. With delightful decor, it feels very artisan inside. Our party enjoyed the press burger, share plates and duck. The food is second to none. Also, probably the best table service i have ever had in a restaurant. Delicious.

Got a last minute booking at Press last night before going to see a show. Our expectations of the food were high and we were not disappointed. We shared the pork salad and had the crab pappardelle and fish of the day.<br/><br/>My one irk came from the service, they were nothing but polite but our waiter seemed a bit over it- first we were brought bread, then it was taken away as she said "oops wrong table". Okay fine we got bread anyway but we were a little confused. Then we were told the specials- immediately I ordered the fish special only to be told it had changed?? My food was still beautiful which was the restaurants saving grace but I would've preferred what I ordered in the first place? Oh well. Still a lovely night.

Not used to sharing table with people but I would go back again for sure. Ordered the tasting platter to try out, the calamari salad, grilled pork belly as well! loved calamari salad!

One of those amazing meals where you just nod silently and eat every single crumb because it is too good to leave on the plate. The kingfish ceviche, caramel pork belly and 6 hour braised beef brisket with Mac n cheese was a great sharing selection of some of the amazing menu items they have. The meal ended perfectly with a poached pear, brioche and almond ice-cream combo. The photos don't do it justice.

PRESS FOOD AND WINE:<br/>Nestled in the heart of the CBD, Press Food and Wine is home to fine dining and delicious food. Although the downstairs area can be quite noisy sometimes, upstairs private booths provide the perfect place to have a lovely meal with family and friends. I recommend ordering several plates and sharing amongst the table in order to experience the most dishes, with a mix from the smaller and larger plates. The ceviche is both smooth and tangy and is a great starter dish. In general the food is always tasty so it is hard to go wrong but I would encourage you to try a few of my personal highlights; the Pork Belly, the bubbly crackling and meat that melts in your mouth not only has great texture but is also full of flavour that brings excitement to each bite. The Scotch Eye Fillet is large and comes with a side of greens and mashed potato, the meat is rich and tender, and the sauce it is accompanied by is so delicious I end up scraping the plate clean. Also note that the shoestring fries are amongst the best I have had, with a firm crunch and salty coating. For dessert the rum and raisin bombe Alaska and the honeycomb parfait are both standouts, the perfect ending to a delicious meal. Press Food and Wine is highly regarded amongst critics and it is no wonder why, the service is efficient and friendly, the atmosphere is lively and the food is fantastic.<br/>Rating: 9

With so many new eateries opening in Adelaide, it's important to remember to pay patronage to the stalwarts of the Adelaide dining scene. Press* has been around for a while and after my first visit here, it's easy to see why. Unpretentious, good and thoughtful food with effortlessly attentive service. Modern Australian at its best.
Amanda Sale
I have never had a bad time at Press. Food is always amazing and the atmosphere is perfect either upstairs or down. Definitely my go to place for a great meal and night out.
Foodie B
Surprisingly busy restaurant on a Monday night. Nice sofa seats upstairs for a group of 4/5 people. Modern Australian cuisine which is slightly above average. Gin and tonic wasn't that great as they put too much lemon juice in it. <br/>
Angie-Marie Piantadosi
great food and funky atmosphere! we just walked in as once the upstairs section is booked you can't make any bookings you just have to try your luck! as we waited we got taken to a funky bar called Proof for a drink (obviously affiliated with the restaurant) and waited until we were called! only complaint is the big share tables, not a fan! very squashy and your basically on a table with 4 other couples or groups and everyone is talking over eachother and its not intimate!
Brunchlover
On a food weekend in Adelaide, we had dinner at Press mainly because we were so curios to taste the mixed grill offal plate. We started with 4 smaller dishes, each of which were amazingly good! We then got the mixed grill with mash potatoes. The mixed grill was unfortunately a bit of a hit and miss; the sweetbreads and blood sausage (morcilla) were delicious, the tounge was very good, however minute steak and brains were so-so; they were quite bland.<br/>Just a note, if you do have any allergies you should probably be more inquisitive as to the ingredients than I was as some ingredients are not necessarily what you expect in the dish you order (which is not a bad thing by the way!). Being allergic to apples and not expecting the remoulade to have apples was a bit of an issue. Easily overcome by avoiding the remoulade once I realised, but still good to know up front. Would definitely come back, but next time I'd order something other than the offal mixed grill.

Even four years after opening, Press* Food and Wineā€™s double storey occupancy continues to be packed to the rafters every lunch and dinner service. Nestled in the heart of Adelaideā€™s CBD on Waymouth Street, Press* has been cleverly converted to take advantage of its vast space and soaring ceilings. The ground floor eatery has more of a casual feel about it and is designed for walk ins, while the light flooded room upstairs is more of a formal dining experience where bookings are strictly recommended.
JMB
Good food and wine but odd atmosphere. I can't put my finger on why the atmosphere was odd, but it just seemed super quiet, cold and unfriendly. The were not warm and inviting - you had to heil them over for drinks. And it just seemed very reserved and quiet. <br/><br/>Aside from that the food was okay but not amazing.
Laura
Such a beautiful restaurant with a great menu and extremely knowledgable staff. Having a formal area upstairs and a more relaxed, long-table downstairs is great.
The Feed Report
Press* is unique for both its seating arrangement - long tables of patrons too close to each other - and its unnecessary use of an asterisk.<br/><br/>This place also does a lot of raw meat and raw meat.
Hello
Had the carrot salad and found a long black hair in my food. Gave it to the waitress who thanked me and took it off me. Left my plate like i was going to eat it. No offer of replacement food. Had to call her back and request a new dish! Disappointed.

Great food service average!. Food for thought. Travelling from Melbourne we were told to go to press for dinner. We were rudely greated at the door, seated, and introduced to our waiter. Fabio seemed more involved with himself than serving us even going as far as 'telling' my girlfriend what she was having for dinner. Every time he came to the table he made pompous remark and went about his night. Ordered steak, no steak knife, ordered a bottle of wine for three, had one glass on the table. Maybe some staff with elevated dining knowledge and those who are less concerned with being joe cool would go a long way. The food was incredible too bad the face of the company was more into himself than your image as a brand

False advertisement and bad service.. Had a pretty good night till the end, used to alway recommended *Press to people who are visiting, as was up there as a favourite. After tonight, will not be recommending it to anybody, staff who served us, I can definitely say I've had better service, but main issue was with the bill as we had a set menu, price listed on their website stated per person, however the price at the Restuarant was more, when I bought this up, was quite rudely informed that I was wrong, so showed the waitress the website, she then takes off with my phone to show her manager, comes back and start making allegation that the person who booked would of been made aware of the price difference, my friend who was right next to me did say at this point she was not told anything about the price being different, when she booked, again the waitress tried to insist she was wrong, then walks off. I did ask to speak to the manager at this stage who pretty much informed me, not in so many word, but the gist is it is our issue the prices on the website is different, not theirs, as the mobile site had not been updated. The sad thing about all this is, if either the waitress or manager just acknowledged the error, my friends and I would of been happy to pay the extra, it was the attitude that not their issue, whatever is listed on their own mobile site.
Scott Ma
Poor service. And charged us more than what is advertised. Will be sharing this with everyone I know.

Thanks Press. The service here was great, came in on a dinner break from work and the waitress was doing an amazing job by herself waiting tables. You would not have even noticed that there was only one person rocking it. The food came out at a decent time and was excellent, so the kitchen staff were on point aswell. Well done press
D
Thank you for a wonderful eye fillet steak. Enjoyed every bite :)

Great place in the city for food and drink. This is a great place to come for drink and good food. A must try are the entree pork burgers, amazingly delicious! The veal croquettes were very nice, the sides are great (mash potato nice and creamy, and steamed greens were delicious and cooked perfectly). The crab parpadelle (sp?) was a bit disappointing as the flavours lacked something and it was a mound of spaghetti with not much meat at all. The steak was cooked well with a delicious wine jus. The wine selection was good also. Will come back to try other dishes.

I booked a table for my daughter's birthday. The tasting menu for $68 per person was well worth the money, with a total of 8 items served. After visiting Press several times, the food is consistently a high standard. The highlight of the night was the lemon meringue dessert with a surprise candle on top (which I didn't even have to ask for!) This is just one example of the staff's high attention to detail, on top of being friendly and accommodating. All in all a very enjoyable evening!

Delicious Late Night Surprise. Visited Press Food and Wine last night for the first time, has always been on my to try list for too long. Arrived at the restaurant late night around 9.45 on a Tuesday evening, as I expected not as packed as Friday's or Saturday's. This meant it wasn't too noisy and the environment was very nice and relaxing. Didn't know what to order, so we picked a Mixed Grill, Fish of the Day and some Grilled squid. Squid came first and all I can say is it was fresh and one of the best I've had in a while. The mixed platter was full of surprises, unusual things that you wouldnt be able to find at other places. To my surprise everything was amazing! (Want to know what's in the platter, try and find out yourself ;] ) Fish of the day was barramundi and it was perfectly cooked with the meat soft skin crispy. Overall made my long long day end with a delicious surprise! Will definately coming back!

What's the attraction? Nois.... What's the attraction?<br/>Noisy, cramped, busy with average pub grade food at fine dining prices. <br/>Not my cup of tea.
