Review Sushi Planet - Adelaide

Nikki-Bella
Delicious. Recommended by a YouTube blogger and true to his word, Sushi Planet delivered! Super fresh. Prepared on the spot with unique flavours. Clever little morsels and delightful treats. Try the tempura mixed seafood. Pleasant take away service.

Came here for lunch with some mates who wanted sushi. It's not something I eat but I gave it a go. Everything looked super appealing. Some tasted better than others but it's all subjective. Service was quick and friendly. A variety of options on the menu. Ample parking. Nice ambience. The platters shown were shared between four people and were plentiful.

It's a really good Japanese restaurant. The environment, food and service are quite fine. The staff is very friendly and caring. I personally especially like Sushi, Sashimi, Teriyaki Beef Don, Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad, etc. One hour of free parking is provided for customers behind the restaurant. Highly recommended.

Food is fantastic! One of my favourite Japanese restaurants. Always a must-visit on my trips!

Sushi was fresh and delicious. I thought it was very reasonably priced and unintentionally ordered more than we could eat. The interior was clean and well layered out. I found that the service was slow, and may need to pre order in future

Very good. Food was excellent. Saki was the best. Still good.

Great service, delicious food. Great atmosphere

Details on Google and sign on door state shop closes at 9pm. I arrived at 8:15pm after driving from Melbourne to eat here. I was at the door and called store. Lady hung up on me. Worst customer service ever! Only giving 2 stars instead of 1 because food has been good in the past. To the woman who answered the phone, I implore you to seek a job where you don't have to deal with customers.

One of the best mid-range sushi places in Adelaide. 1) The quality of the serving ware and the attention to detail is fabulous. 2) The sushi rice is melt-in-the-mouth - top notch - not a sushi rice-making machine in sight. 3) The sashimi is fresh and delicate - how sashimi should be. 4) NO train in sight. Love! I didn't like that there were rolls with cream cheese in because that is wrong on so many levels and too much like train sushi - but there was enough on the menu to distract and they allow for replacements. I would have liked red bean paste with the green tea ice cream. Hope they add that without increasing the price. Will definitely come back.

Not good enough for the customer service,I waiting for my meal more than 20mins and all kitchen staff are talking each other, not working at all times。I will highly not recommend to anyone to eat at this places any more. I will going down to sushi train. To get a better service and food , sushi planet the food price are very expensive for everything

The best sushi I have ever tasted in my entire life! Enormous vegan range and so much to choose from. Great spot for dinner if you've got a group of people with a range of dietary requirements/taste preferences! Can't wait to be back

When the weather is this cold and pouring outside, who said you cannot have sushi? Thank You Sushi planet for amazing food. I would like to say that I appreciate Francis and all the staff for taking action for the issue I had before and reassure me and make up for it.
Emma Taylor
Great food, great staff, really friendly. Definitely recommend a visit

I chose to not have salmon in my roll and they gave me a free can of drink to substitute I love this place so much!

The portion sizes of the sushi are VERY small and over priced. It took 25 minutes to get our food when there was less than 10 people in the store. The service was very slow, however the staff were friendly.
Peter Akiki
You would expect more from a place with prices like this! There was 6 people in the restaurant when we came and it took over 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order. Sushi is good but a bit overpriced for the portion sizes. Friendly team, but extremely slow service especially when it's not busy and there is more staff than customers.
Suraksha Mattoo
Been thrice or maybe more number of times. Good to see that they have expanded their menu. <br/>Staff is friendly to customise the menu. Definitely a must go. Lot of vegetarian options for my friends 😊

It was a great night out for our 13 year old sushi obsessed birthday boy and family. Glad we gave this restaurant a chance as it exceeded my expectations as I thought it would be focused mainly on sushi but it offered more selection than I anticipated. The service was friendly and the food was delicious even the desert was lovely. Great for all ages as there where some young people on there way out to town, food loving couples and our mixed age family.. everyone praised the food to the staff on leaving which is nice to hear. No photos as we were to busy eating it as soon as it came.
Gillydoesfood
Came here for dinner on Good Friday. The restaurant was not too busy on arrival but more people came through while we were dining. <br/><br/>We ordered a few different items on the menu, they forgot the miso soup but it was probably a good thing considering we were very full by the time we had finished our meal. We ordered sashimi, sushi, gyoza, tempura and yakitori. Everything was delicious and tasted very fresh. <br/><br/>Service overall was friendly and pleasant.
Rhianna Manfield
Good portioning for price and food was fresh and tasted really good. Lots of variety of drinks and food. Staff were friendly and the overall atmosphere was good
DuckieLovesToEat
I have seen this beautiful photo of sushi in instagram and I must say I have been enticed because of that. We came here for lunch and thankfully there are lots of car parks where it is situated. The place itself has a nice feel to it. And the staff were friendly enough. We ordered the lunch special where you can have 2 different sushi roll for this instance we had the spicy Tuna and alaska roll which is accompanied by karage chicken and miso soup. Both the sushi was OK but the karage chicken was delicious. We also had takoyaki, this was also very tasty. The kingfish salad was very refreshing, thanks to the dressing they had used. Overall, a pleasant experience. I would like to come back to try more of their dishes and to eat more of that karage chicken and takoyaki.

God I love Sushi Planet! I've been about 6 times now and it never disappoints. The sushi is always beautifully fresh, and reasonable priced for the quality. Some of my favourites are the aburi salmon roll, vegetable tempura (although a touch oily), and classic edamame.<br/><br/>The service is attentive and the fit-out is very cool. I've eaten a lot of crap sushi in Adelaide, but this place is really special.
Romeo Mangiare
Love this place. Most of the item on the menu are beautiful. We had Alaskan Roll, Aburi Salmon Roll, Chicken Wing, Chicken Karage, and Tempura Shrimp Roll. They offer variety menu. All sushi are pretty good, but I do like alaskan roll. All up was $50 include two drinks. The service is good too, premises are clean and cozy.
Courtzi123
I'll start this out by saying that the desert is to die for. The lemon meringue had the perfect texture, taste and melted in my mouth. The sushi rolls for me are a bit of a let-down. Very white person / fusion sushi. I personally didn't like it at all but I know of lots who love it. All in all, not terrible but I would much rather eat at Sushi train in Welland :). That is my personal opinion.
_foodiej
Incredible sushi! All pieces of meat were just fresh, tasty, and simply perfect - which in my opinion, is very hard to find in Adelaide. I was also lucky enough to have scored a Groupon voucher which made the dining experience that much better!
Sarah.rosenzweig11
The food was absolutely delicious and for the quality it is a fair price. The ambiance is perfect, the music isn’t too loud and it suited the vibe. The decor is simplistic and modern.
Andrew Date
The soft shell crab and chicken sushi rolls were amazing. I highly recommend this place, I’m here for 3 more nights and I plan on coming back before I fly home to Melbourne.
Carmen Tassone
Love fresh sushi on a hot day. Have been here a couple of times now and they always have the best sushi and tempura. Will surely coming back. Sushi planet never disappointed! Great customer service and it was packed means they are really good.

Finally decided to try this place.... Food is probably average or just above average...<br/>Likes : aburi salmon carpaccio, gyoza and mixed sashimi<br/>Average: tempura<br/>Bad: soft shell crab roll<br/><br/>

Environment: 4.0 Morden Japanese restaurant, long table in the centre of the restaurant<br/><br/>Service: 4.0 reasonable waiting time, except skewers coz they are grilled once ordered, good service <br/><br/>Location: 3.0 not that convenient if u r not driving, there is a car park that free for customers <br/><br/>Food: 4.0 <br/>1. Sushi (overall)- 4.5 pretty good, will be excellent if the mango is big enough <br/>2. Milkshake- 4.0 vanilla and green tea are good, not too sweet that make u stop eating but rich texture <br/>3. Skewers (overall) -3.5 no surprise of scallops, poor in beef ( like kangaroo meat) , chicken is the best
Emily
I am used to eating at sushi train so this restaurant was a pleasant surprise and slightly more classy than I expected. There were a good number of sushi options and I liked the fact that you could choose platters of different sizes - making group sushi outings much simpler. Also, cocktails in the menu were a pleasant surprise although I can't say I've ever thought to have one with sushi (why not). Staff were very helpful and friendly to us. The sushi was slightly expensive but seemed to be of an above-average quality. Meals were also very nicely presented - good for photos. I'd only ever eaten from sushi planet by delivery before today, but really enjoyed the experience so will likely be back.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sushi Planet on West Terrace Adelaide.  Incredible quality, prompt and considerate service, and completely professional.  I have pre-ordered twice for dine in and pick up and on both occasions there was no waiting and the food was excellent.  I was also discounted for my pick up order which I can only assume related to the online ordering not updating the collection time so they called me to confirm - which is not a hassle at all, I would rather my order be correct and I appreciate their efforts to get it right.  I love the attention to detail in presentation and the accessories in the take away pack are great.  Lots of vegan options.  Excellent.
Jewel
we ordered a variety of dishes. The sashimi tasted fresh and was a beautiful consistency. we ordered the salmon and chicken thigh skewer. I thought the price of the skewer was a bit too expensive for the amount that was given. the udon was nicely cooked and the tempura prawn is definitely one of the best hat i have tried in Adelaide. we ordered the soft shell crab sushi, however it didn't live up to my expectations. overall, the food here was beautiful and also service was polite and quick. the decor and ambience also makes Sushi Planet a great place for a family dinner or a dinner with a group of friends.

I've tried a lot of the Japanese restaurants in Adelaide and although this place definitely isn't my place to go, there are still some good things I have to say. It's a good place to go for somewhere more modern - and I feel as if their ingredients are incredibly fresh. The atmosphere is a lot more chilled compared to other Japanese restaurants - with nice soft music playing in the background. I usually don't like miso soup - but actually love theirs - it's not too salty and is lovely to have before your meal. Also would recommend the beef tataki as an entree - very yummy! I've been here a few times and have tried a few different sushis so I do recommend the aburi salmon roll. Very fresh and beautifully prepared.

I really do enjoy dining in at Sushi Planet. Ive tried a number of different things on their menu and love their entree selection and their sushi sets most. <br/><br/>We have had their sushi to take-away a number of times and found its not as fresh, granted we do live far from this place. But I would definitely recommend eating in. <br/><br/>A bit on the pricey side and booking is pretty essential but for the freshness of the sushi, the variety of different food and drinks on offer, the ambiance and the service it's definitely justified, and I'd say one of the top sushi restaurants in Adelaide.

Since it opened, I’ve been a big fan of Sushi Planet on Adelaide’s West Terrace. Not only is the food delicious and presented beautifully (great for Instagram pics!), it just happens to be close to my office, and there’s easy parking. I’ve dined in on numerous occasions but I’ve also often taken advantage of their free delivery option. My favourite delivery? Hands down, the Deluxe Sushi Set consisting of 56 pieces of assorted nigiri presented in a large square black box. In fact, I’m such a loyal customer that as a reward, I was invited to try the new menu that they’ve just launched – an offer that I could NOT refuse!
Food Is Loved
I had a lovely lunch at Sushi Planet yesterday. This is a much higher level sushi restaurant than the 'trains' around town. <br/>You can taste the quality of produce used, with my favourites of the day being the spicy tuna and soft shell crab rolls. What i really noticed compared to other standard sushi places is the light texture of the rice used, its delicious.

We went on set lunch menus with our kids (Scoopons) and just loved the fresh sushis, the skewers and ordered the chocolate bomb in addition to the voucher. I would come back just for this particular dessert - and I won't share this time ! Our kids loved it and we can't fault anything except perhaps the small tables which just can't accommodate 4 people !

Fancy sushi. Fancy prices. No train. Table service. Good wines by the glass (which puts it head and shoulders above Sushi Train)! <br/><br/>My kids (16 & 14) liked it but prefer Sushi Train because the food at Planet is a bit fancied up for them.
Vee
My favourite place for sushi in Adelaide. Delicious, well presented food, friendly staff and well styled venue. I come here regularly and I'm never disappointed. Only down side is that it could be perceived as a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for and in my opinion the quality of the food here justifies the price.
Anna Lam
Amazing sushi restaurant in Adelaide CBD. A range of sushi selection to try including their very own creative sushi! Been here twice and would come again!

Ordered through the Eat Now app on my phone for pick up, and I received an sms telling me my meal would be ready in an hour, which I was a bit grumpy about. About 20 minutes later I received a phone call from a restaurant staff telling me that my order was already ready! I checked the receipt later and it turns out my order was ready to be picked up 12 minutes after I ordered it. Entirely Eat Now's fault; if you're planning on ordering through Eat Now, call the restaurant to double check when your order will be ready!<br/><br/>Onto the food. My Beef Tataki ($11.50) was delicious. Very fresh, and the sesame dressing it came with complemented very nicely. My aburi scallop ($7.50) and salmon ($4.50) nigiri were also very fresh. I particularly loved the aburi salmon. It was seared well and had a lovely, delicate texture. The lightly salted edamame ($4.50) came at a very generous serve for the price. Not a very exciting dish, but I have nothing bad to say about it.<br/><br/>My meal from Sushi Planet definitely satisfied my sushi cravings. It's a little more expensive than places such as Sushi Train, but I guess I don't mind paying a bit extra for the convenience of being able to have it delivered/pre-ordered and picked up.
Yianni Koutouzis
Terrible sushi! They are way too big to eat and the restaurant smells of burnt oil (smokey)<br/><br/>Customer service post order is non existent.<br/><br/>I won't be going back!<br/>
Kym Le
I felt like the food was a little overpriced and don't leave feeling very full. I'll be going back to sushi train for a little cheaper but filling experience.

So far, this is my favorite sushi spot in Adelaide. The food presentation is excellent and very appetizing. The quality of their products and the composition of flavours are fantastic. If you are fussy about hygiene and seafood quality, this place will make you feel absolutely safe and leave you wanting for more. Even the take away food presentation is spotless and neat. It is not cheap, specially if you order quinoa rolls, but every penny is worth it. Delish!!!

Just picked some takeaway on my way back to the office. Excellent presentation; reasonable price; pleasant service; and delicious sushi.

When I first heard the name I thought Sushi Planet was some sort of gimmicky sushi joint however the décor and layout of the restaurant very nice and aesthetic. The service upon entry was fine however it appeared that the waiter did not understand the Groupon voucher offer and sort of winged what to offer us. Another waiter soon came over and rectified the situation. It was worrying that there was such a discrepancy in knowledge between waiters on the offers that were available at the time. For the food itself we had a 3 course deal. The entrée was miso soup, edamame bean, and beef tataki. The miso soup was quite standard and lovely - I liked that they added soft tofu into the broth for a nice surprise. The edamame beans were served with lemon and salt which were great to snack on between courses and the beef tataki again, was very well presented and tasted great. The sauce was excellent. <br/>For mains, we had the nigri set, aburi set and skewers. The nigri and aburi were very good - the fish tasted extremely fresh and was extremely well presented. My personal favourite was the kingfish nigri. The skewers I found were a bit of a strange addition to the offer - the ones that were served were chicken, salmon and beef. This was probably the part I least liked about the food on offer. The chicken was grilled with a lot of salt and not much else. The beef was fine but overdone, and much the same with the salmon. To be fair we probably wouldn't have ordered them if they didn't come with the offer however I feel that these are lazy additions to the menu and not very well thought out.<br/>For desert a few options were not available so we ended up going for the chocolate dome, which was extremely rich and decadent - however, again, there was not much inspiration in this dish. Very standard.<br/><br/>Over all I'd love to go back for the nigri, aburi and tataki but some of this meal was also quite lack lustre. A solid weekday meal but probably won't be returning quickly.

January 13, 2016 By She Said What in Food & Drink Tags: Adelaide, dinner spot, food, Japanese food, review Leave a comment. Sushi Planet is the perfect place when you’re looking for a classic sushi hit but you want to up the class level slightly from the standard Sushi Train visit. It’s also much more suitable than Sushi Train for a catch-up with ol’ friends because they won’t  shoo you out the door whilst you’re still swallowing your last bite of Aburi salmon.
Helena
This is one of my regular sushi restaurant. Their food is pretty consistent overall. However, I was shocked that they charge $5 for just changing one piece in a sushi set when 2 pieces of sushi are just $4.5<br/>I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurant and no any of them would charge for that. It's just disappointed.

One of my top three sushi places. Love that there is a variety of seating (sushi bar, communal, inside and outside). The sushi and sashimi was all excellent. The Aburi sushi are huge. The salmon and scallop skewers were also good. Good service.
Uberfrauline
Lets start with the fact that, yes? This place is pretty uber cool, plenty of dollars spent here and it shows. But I will get straight to the point! The Sushi, Tataki and Aburi and all pretty good, no real complaints here, except that I am finding that with most Japanese establishments I have dined in, are starting to taste all the same, with the exception of higher end dining like Shiki etc. I would like to focus on service and those skewers! I totally agree with the previous reviews, what is happening with these skewers? They are terrible, cooked without love or just really bad produce? Japanese restaurants cannot afford to serve sub standard produce, it would be disrespectful to the Japanese culture. So what is the problem? We ordered an array of different skewers and none of them hit the mark. Salmon was so overcooked that the fish was glued to the stick! You know what I mean when that happens foodies? Beef chewy, no flavour. Chicken was just okay. Pork katsu was a disaster, sent it back, received another one just as bad, was so uber chewy that we just left it. This review is basically what I told the manager/waitress on our way out (shorter version), we got an apology but no refunds, no offers of drinks or anything complimentary. Not that we would have accepted, but that is never the point. If you just go for the sushi and anything cold, it is quite good. Service is okay to start with, then they tend to forget you and you start the bobbing head, searching eye thing to get their attention. Would I return? I don't think so, it's really an overpriced uber funky hip sushi bar and I would rather spend my money elsewhere. However, I do understand how this place attracts the younger crowd. Let's fix those skewers and Sushi Planet will rock.....

<br/>Updated edit- after visiting the other night I was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful service and were 100% willing to offer gluten free sushi! Awesome<br/>Work <br/><br/><br/>-*old post* Went with a group of friends.. Some who were vegan, veggo, dairy free etc. For me, I'm both gluten & dairy free and there were literally no options for me. I totally understand that gluten and dairy is a lot to ask for but I never have issues at other sushi joints or restaurants. Wonderful they have a gluten-free platter, but some were loaded with cream cheese (?!?!?) and when I asked for them to replace it with another alternative, I was told it wasn't possible (it was literally as simple as swapping it for something else). I ended up eating one plate of salmon sashimi and a cup of tea, left extremely hungry and annoyed that I travelled for a mediocre meal. Sorry but I probably won't return unless I see more options or a bit more lenience on the menu.
Alphonso
not bad sushi. I dont like the Adelaide sushi restaurant's only giving crappy sashimi though but the sauces were yummy and the deserts were a good choice.

Friendly greeting and service, great presentation, and delicious food! Complimentary small brownie was a great way to end the meal. Will keep going back

Much tasty. Such photogenic (great for the insta). As fresh as your bro's fresh cut. Three requirements that the sushi at Sushi Planet tick the box for. Seriously that soft shell crab roll was one of the finest sushi's I've ever consumed; brimming with a multitude of balanced flavours, texturous and topped with a fun spicy sauce. I also rate the Alaska roll; salmon, avocado, cream cheese in capelin roe and the fact that there's some quinoa options (health freaks hoorah). The condiments were pretty good also. However it was the chargrilled skewers which were a bit of a let down. The chicken breast was blatantly dry, beef and chicken thigh overly chewy and salmon too sweet. Though you could taste the underlying grilled essence which is a plus. Service was cordial though a tad inattentive but arrival of food was swift as a ninja. I did enjoy the atmosphere, sleek interior, overarching lights and Jap cutlery though not the wooden disposable chopsticks (get real ones). I also qualm the fact that the toilets are up a steep set of stairs, and the female ones are further past the men's (think about the grannies and preggers ladies!). In all if you want an on point sushi fix without skewers, head into the west side's slightly overpriced for portion size contemporary sushi bar.
Fit & Fed Foodie
I'd underestimated this place. I wasn't expecting anything fantastic but the place is actually pretty cool, service was quick, staff were great and the food was actually darn good. Yes the prices are a bit more but you get what you pay for, the quality of the sashimi was evident with every bite. The beef dish was amazing especially the sauce that accompanied it! The sushi, again the quality stands out to me, the soft shell crab was the highlight of the two kinds, the other was the shrimp which was still great. Quick, quality jap food. Even the toilets have a seat "backing" which I thought was a bit weird since who would use that? But each to their own. The place is actually a lot bigger than I gave it credit for also. Huge kitchen takes up half the restaurant. Cool spot.
Bel Lala
Spot on flavours, presentation and vibe! Sushi is delicious and fresh and the crispy chicken wings are amazing.. Will definitely be returning!
The Adelaidian
Summer is over and the weather is cooling rapidly, welcoming winter to Australia. It’s not all bad news though, as this means the launch of winter menus for many restaurants on the Adelaide scene. Whether it’s replacing all the summer produce based meals on the menu with winter ones, or simply adding some heavier, warmer meals to the menu, you won’t find many good restaurants who keep the same menu year round.
Nikki
Good food. Fair price. Great atmosphere and decor. Would be great to see more vegan options. Perhaps tempura vegetables (cooked in separate oil to non vegan food). I ordered most of the vegan options.
Timothy Watson
Average sushi. Aburi could do with more garnish. Also, the fried chicken entree (got this with a Groupon I purchased) comes out cold because they "cook it in the morning." ? <br/><br/>Not overly impressed.
AJ Ruze
Hands down best sushi in adelaide. So fresh. They serve it on ice as well. Quality fit out. Excellent service. Go on a date or with friends. Nice pleasant atmosphere. Large variety on the menu. It's pricier but worth it.

This modern Japanese restaurant located at west terrace, city centre. Plenty of car parks around the area or they have a little car park area on the side but would require ticket. Go as a group to try all sorts as they have a party sushi platter which is absolutely yummy. Menu can present a lesser selection compare to other sushi places. In saying that, whatever they serve, they serve with good quality from sashimi to sushi. They have brown rice and quinoa to choose from which not only tick the healthy box but also yummy box. The only thing missing is ramen and udon. They don't do that, was hoping as time goes by they might start cooking some. Some of the skewers are must try but can be a bit pricy as they only serves one skewer per dish. Vegetarian options are available too. Great selection of drinks!!! Sake, Choya and range of hot tea. Overall, really enjoy the experience and food. Another highlight, this restaurant do delivery in their cute car that has a shrimp on top, take away quality is very high. Everything well pack and sushi taste so fresh!!! Highly recommend if would like to take away. Check out their website to order online.

Food presentation was amazing! We sat outside and I'd suggest some greenery be placed around the place so you don't feel like you're on a main rd. Staff were friendly and accommodating!
Zoe L
Had the take away king oyster mushrooms glazed with teriyaki sauce skewer, veggie quinoa roll and avocado roll. All very fresh and tasty. Will return.
Laura
Flawless!! Beautiful restaurant, fresh and delicious sushi, excellent prices and great service! The vegan options were so tasty, especially the king oyster mushroom skewers. We were even given some complimentary cacao & goji brownie. I especially love avocado in sushi and Sushi Planet have loads of excellent avo!
Darren
Today I had the meat skewers (beef, chicken and salmon), miso soup, rice and sake - everything hit the spot from a flavour and presentation perspective. Service was quick and place had a great vibe.<br/>Have been back now many times for the sushi and love it. Everything on the menu is a winner.
Michelle
The food was not bad however overpriced for the small amount of food for each dish. I think I will stick with sushi train for now
Sahar&Aurelio
Love the atmosphere of this place, it feels like you are in a stylish Japanese restaurant in America! the food is delicious but prices are a little on the high side. a good spot for catch up lunch with friends.
Wifeychef
Came here last week on a groupon on for a sushi feast which included a variety of food and a drink (we chose wine). We started off with some entrees but the gentleman who worked there (guessing manager) made us feel extremely rushed and before we finished our entrees the main came out so our small table was crowded with plates and not much room to eat. Before we knew it our desserts came out also. I enjoyed the food but I much prefer sushi train. Next time if we decide to come I'd prefer not to be so rushed to eat and leave. Also there was a blowfly in my water glass. Didn't drink it obviously but I felt the staff weren't attentive if I wanted them so I just let it be . It seemed the people without the groupon got a lot better service than us. More attentive. Our food was left there and only came back when they wanted to bring next course back. It's a shame because it was our first experience at Sushi Plant
Adelaidefoodcentral
Adelaide Food Central was invited to sample the new Signature Menu at Sushi Planet. All food and drinks were provided free of charge. The name Sushi Planet is synonymous with simplistic offerings, fresh quality ingredients and great customer service. When the invite came through to sample their menu, it was something I was really looking forward to. Based on previous visits to Sushi Planet, I already knew the whole experience was going to be exceptional.

Mostly hit, with some occasional but notable misses. Love the modern fit out for this place. Also like the diverse serving staff - it feels odd to pick that out, but they've avoided the temptation to just hire Asian staff which makes this place feel really cosmopolitan. Service itself is brisk but friendly and food, while a little dearer, will probably suit those looking for a casual Japanese eatery that is more refined than what's previously been available in Adelaide. <br/><br/>Now to the misses: while most of the food here is great, the rice isn't always at sushi standard. On the latest occasion we had two sushi dishes that were made with gluggy and frankly, poorly cooked rice. On a previous occasion, I had the reverse and had undercooked rice. When so much of your meal is rice, this can really affect your enjoyment of the overall meal.<br/><br/>My other quibble is with the water drinking cups. So while I understand the use of Japanese ceramics here generally, the rough unfinished surface on the cups make you feel like you're going to get sand in your mouth with every sip of water. They look great! Just are a bit too rustic on the mouth. This is just my idiosyncrasy though. I doubt anyone else would care!
Sam
Odd location, but worth the trek from the CBD. Really cool layout and perfect for a big function or drunken dinner. The sushi and skewers were top notch, I couldn't fault them. Keen to go back with a big group
Tempting Palates
What can you say about Sushi Planet 1/60 West Tce, Adelaide that hasn't already been written or said before? Probably not much but we will add our two cents worth! The first thing you notice from the outside is how big this restaurant is and walking inside confirms it. The decor is fresh, clean and modern as well as giving you that Japanese vibe without being too cheesy or pretentious.  We bought another website meal voucher as it was a very good value.  A platter of Sushi or Yakitori Skewer lunch and a shot of warm Saki for two people for only $19.00. We ordered the Sushi Planet Set consisting of Salmon, Kingfish, Prawn Nigiri and Crunchy Chicken Roll and the Skewers Set of 4 Skewers  consisting of Beef with Parsley Butter, Miso Marinated Salmon and 2 Crispy Chicken Wing as well as rice and Miso Soup. The two platters had a great variety but we decided to order some more so we could try a few other dishes. We ordered the Asparagus with Teriyaki Sauce, Breaded Pork with Tonkatsu Sauce, Tender Chicken Breast with Chilli and Teriyaki Sauces and the Spicy Edamame Beans. The Edamame beans were delicious. They were fresh and crispy smothered with a lovely sweet spiced sauce with roasted  sesame seeds . The sweet and spicy added a whole new dimension to this dish considering it is usually only served with a pinch of salt over the soy beans. The Sushi Planet Set had fresh ingredients and all had great taste and flavours. The salmon and prawns were very fresh and they didn't even have a hint of seafood smell or taste. The chicken had a lovely crispy edge to it. The Skewers Set also had fresh, clean  ingredients. The salmon skewer was well cooked and had a lovely buttery marinated flavour with hints of smokiness. The chicken wings were crispy on the outside and lovely and tender on the inside. The charcoal flavour was evident along with the hint of salt. Lastly the beef skewer was tasty with its parsley butter but the meat was a little too chewy for our liking. The Tender Ch

Adelaide, Adelaide CBD, Adelaide West End, Asian cuisine, Fast food, Japanese, Lunch, Take away, Vegetarian. Sushi Planet, Adelaide. by dee • April 24, 2015 • 0 Comments. Earlier this month, we made a revisit to Sushi Planet for their new menu launch courtesy of the lovely ladies from Girl About Town and Sushi Planet… and the colourful spread that was presented before us was nothing short of amazing! We were clearly in sushi heaven… or better yet, on a real sushi planet–see what I did there? 😉 Lame pun joke aside, it was a feast for the eyes and bellies for those that were invited to the event.

Gets everything right..... This is among the top five sushi places I have dined in three states. Service is a standard above virtually any place in Adelaide, and the atmosphere is boisterous. Front of house guy was on point and super professional. Menu, and table a delight to look at. Food was artfully presented and alive with freshness. Sushi had innovative variations on the standard. Service was fast so don't believe stories to the contrary.Go with a group of friends and have a great time.

Sushi Planet feels like a fancy franchise, although it's not, and it's definitely not in a fancy location. However, the sushi is surprisingly good, and reasonably priced. We had a larger sushi platter and a small nigiri platter and were blown away by the quality, having experienced traditional Japanese cuisine and also our locals Kenji and Shiki. So what you pay for is what you get, and a delivery service is even more tempting!! Will be back!

Forget those sushi chains, you've found the best!. I have never had sushi in such a fancy setting before. I loved it. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was to die for (particularly the wasabi peanuts which were complimentary served to every table). Extensive menu, not so extensive drinks menu. Overall a pleasant experience. Have already recommended to friends and will be back.

Cool new spot. Went here with a friend last night for dinner. She's vegan so ordered the vegan skewer platter which came with a lot of other extra sides - the edamame was so yum! I got some meat skewers which were so delicious I badly wished I was more hungry! The décor of the restaurant is beautiful and so is the tableware. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive even though we accidentally stayed past closing time :p

An average experience. Went there for dinner with family last month. Food was nice but had limited choices! Staff were friendly, however was a bit unthoughtful as they refused to change us to another table as the sunset was glaring us to blind and making us really warm. I understand they want to show by passers that they have customers in house, but it would be better if they actually cared about us.

AMAZING!. This new restaurant is impeccable. Beautifully presented platters, filled with quality ingredients that produce delicious tasting Japanese sushi. The tall man that usually greets at the door (manager?) is on point! He is so welcoming and friendly, and was more than happy to help out with a special request during our visit. He is exactly what every restaurant would be lucky to have!

Not many choices to choose from their menu other than sushi and skewers, but the quality of food is good. Wish they have nicer table for larger group rather the communial table.
Goodfoodthyme
The expanded menu includes an option for vegans, called the Fancy roll. As with the previous launch, there was so much beautiful fresh sushi on offer! Three of the new rolls are shrimp roll with mango, aburi beef roll and seaweed roll with avocado. The shrimp roll with mango really surprised me.

We were clearly in sushi heaven… or better yet, on a real sushi planet–see what I did there? ;) Lame pun joke aside, it was a feast for the eyes and bellies for those that were invited to the event. Things have been looking up at Sushi Planet over the short amount of time that they’ve been open, and as a result, their menu has expanded and their trading hours extended. Now that’s a big yay for us! The new menu gives sushi fans a chance to try some new and different flavour combinations, and their yakitori menu has some new inclusions of miso-marinated salmon, gently grilled scallops with herb butter, and meaty chargrilled king oyster mushrooms glazed in yakitori sauce. The actual menu booklet has also had a facelift with images accompanied with dietary labels for easy navigation for vegans and gluten free eaters and even a dedicated kids menu.

Let down. Came here after all the hype of my friends posting photos of nicely presented sushi. Looks can be deceiving. Although well presented my favourite Aburi Salmon Sushi was total let down, would even much rather have it at sushi train. The skewers were expensive for what they were hard bits of fish and meat with flavours not that exciting. Menu could improve with japanese rice sets for more variety. Won't be coming back..

Wouldnt bother. Was seated at a table against the window(west tce side) so the sun was blaring through the window straight onto our faces. the place was literally emty as we were first to arrive then the waiter for some reason thought it was a good idea to seat two families with screaming kids RIGHT next to us. Needles to say it wasnt an enjoyable night and we left after being there for 30mins.

Dinner for two enjoyed the ambiance, the staff very attentive, food to the table quick, sushi good, skewers rubbish , but would go back

Disapointed!. I had the best help from the waitress Tessa, she always helped us with what we wanted and the ingredients. The other waitresses look like they don't even want to be there and are extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. Don't fire good staff!

Sushi Planet looks and feels clean, contemporary and minimalist with underlying Japanese touches; even the decor itself reflects the owner’s food values. With plenty of seating both inside and out, it’s ideal for groups of any size. The open plan kitchen is a bonus as you can watch the talented chefs carefully prepare the food amidst the hustle and bustle.

So this review is very, very overdue. Between health stuff (needs a whole post to itself) and working at the Garden of Unearthly Delights (best time of my life) my blog has been on hiatus. My goal for March is to be up to date and to start bringing you some awesome new reviews in April. But I digress, here are my insights into the Sushi Planet Launch, which almost everyone has posted about already, but I might as well throw in my very late two cents because I was there. So first up...what's so great about Sushi Planet that makes it different to the rest? Delivery, yes that's right ladies and gentleman this place does Sushi delivery. Perfect for CBD business lunches, date nights at home and those I cannot be stuffed cooking moments (and if the food is as delicious as it was on launch night... my advice is to try it and try it now). On the night we were given a wide assortment of sushi and nigiri to taste, and to be honest I didn't really pay much attention to what each one was particularly. However, in everything I tried the sushi rice was soft and sticky, the fish fresh, tender and flavoursome and the combinations very delicious. I did make an effort to try out the brown rice quinoa sushi as it was something I hadn't seen elsewhere and it was really tasty! A more nutty, earthy flavour and definitely worth trying. The standout for me was the yakitori though! I could have easily eaten ten of these!  A really moreish char grilled flavour and juicy tender meat (I tried the fish and chicken) makes these an awesome addition to the menu! The staff were all super friendly, happy and efficient (the kitchen is open and seriously were they working hard and fast!) despite how busy the launch was. In all honesty the food was really good, and if under that kind of pressure they can produce such a quality  product I'm predicting that eating here on a  normal trading day is going to be even better. The restaurant itself was stunning, a huge airy set up that still retained a traditi

Now for those of you who know me, Japanese is my favourite cuisine.  Thus when I found out there was a new sushi joint I was very excited.  I had made bookings on dimmi on separate occasions.  Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed a long communal table and separate tables near the window.

Loved it! Went here for my birthday in a group of 7. The staff were attentive and amazing, the sushi was so good, the skewers , especially the beef ones just melted in your mouth, miner issue was the stools we had to sit on but I can over look that , will definitely be back ;)

Sushi?? Yakitori??. Rice rolled up with fillings, or raw fish on top of rice = sushi? Meat on skewer = yakitori?? Every one who can light up a stove = master chef then.<br/>Sad... didnt get the sushi rice cooked correctly, needless to say the sushi rice seasoning. Yakitori, hasnt got the right grill and seasoning to start with.<br/>Tons of staffs, but no directions and ideas. Well paid I think, why bother, get paid for no idea anyway. Lots money invested to attract people, but no money invested in thier people.<br/>Stick with Genki, Sushi Train, Matsuri, Takumi & Wasai.<br/>I am not up to the level can appreciate this planet yet.

Found service great and food prompt and delicious surprised by earlier reviews..

Don't waste your time and energy. Think twice before you come to this restaurant! The food here is average but it's definitely overpriced. You'll be lucky to have your food on your table in 1 hour. So my advice is, if you insist to try it out, eat before you come. They either underpay their staffs or their staffs are just too posh to work. They have tons of people in the kitchen and on the floor, but it's extremely hard to get anyone's attention. Once you finally flagged down a waiter, they either ignore your request or just being really cocky. Most importantly, they never apologised for their slow service. We were really upset, angry and hungry. Thanks for spoiling our night sushi planet! <br/>I'll still definitely support SUSHI TRAIN or GENKI SUSHI for their fast, friendly service!

Great dinner experience 9/10. My mate and I highly enjoyed our dinner at Sushi Planet! The food was extremely nice, I had the skewers set, green tea and a mango cake, which were delicious. The atmosphere of the place was also really enjoyable. There was a slight delay, but overall our food was delivered relatively quickly, considering that we were there when it was absolutely packed. Overall a great experience, a big recommendation on our part! Will be back for more :D

50 mins wait for sushi!!!. Our table position was awful, we were near the stairs to the toilet and I sat facing the pass, and the backs of three staff members as they stood their shuffling receipts and sorting take away. This area needs to be redesigned, it just doenst work. Service was shocking, as was the 50 min wait for sushi. We were given wasabi peas by Gabe I asked him, if we ordered food with him, he said no and walked away. Did he get us a waiter? NO. After almost ten mins we managed to flag someone else down who also would not take our order, but would get someone who would. After waiting 40 mins we asked how much longer it would be, she looked at the dockets and walked away and did not come back and talk to us!! My friends dish was delivered after a 45 min wait. Apologies were given for the wait by John and we were given three free bowls of wasabi peas (I hate these, but my friend likes them),unfortunately its still not okay. The soft shell crab was ok, the crab was not crunchy, we think it was cooked hours ago. The aburi platter set arrived after 50 mins. All nine pieces were covered in teriyaki sauce, so all of the pieces bascially tasted the same. All the fish pieces were very large and covered all the rice, but the taste was average. They were not flame grilled enough to give that char taste and other than the scallop that had roe on top the rest were bare. <br/>Genki sushi tastes better and you can get your sushi in less than 10mins. I will not return to Sushi Planet.<br/>They are also struggling with home delivery. A delivery for 730 did not leave the restaurant till 805, so the customer would get it an hour after ordering.

Pretty avergage! Heaps of workers, yet food takes ages to come! And there was only 2 other tables! Probably only get a royal treatment of your a fashion blogger! Just like their "grand opening"!

Its all hype. Experience at sushi planet was okay. The layout and decor were nice and we didn't have to wait too long for our food unlike the other reviews on here. However we noticed when more people arrived they had to wait awhile for their food and seemed very restless and annoyed. <br/>There were a few things that went wrong during our visit. Firstly the drink we ordered never arrived and they charged us for it. We had to tell them we never received the drink. Secondly some of the things on the menu- beef tataki were not available. When we received our sushi set which was suppose to come with the endamame beans instead we got badly cut veg salad. The pieces of carrot and 2 cabbage slices were so thick it was horrible to chew on. The waitress failed to mention the beans were unavailable from the beginning. <br/><br/>A restaurant that opens up should have everything available to cater to all customers, why would you open up a restaurant and not have things available on the menu is beyond me. They definitely need to pick up their game if they want to compete with other sushi restaurants<br/>You can definitely get better sashimi and sushi elsewhere along with impeccable service and decent pricing.

Worst service ever. The service was horrible : we waited an hour for our meals to come out, the response we had from the staffs were shocking. no apologies given and they pretty much ignore all our requests. after the long wait they messed up our order. this shop is very u organised and we are definitely not coming back.

Service is very slow and unorganized, I was given a unwashed cup with my cider (still had some kind of fruit stuck to the cup). A replacement cup wasn't much better. One of our drinks was forgotten. Waited 1 hour for one dish... We ordered 7, got up and left. Won't be back. Not recommended.

Sushi Planet is located on the corner of West Terrace and Waymouth Street, amongst other nearby eateries. While sushi and yakitori are their main offerings, it’s all about providing a memorable experience through the use of the freshest ingredients, friendly service and a contemporary ambience.

The night started with bubbles, cocktails and beers as we took in the atmosphere.  As the owner, Pavel Gayvoronskiy said "Sushi Planet goes far beyond having great food and service by offering customers the holistic dining experience where people can get together to enjoy the modern Japanese food whilst having cocktails in a vibrant ambiance". Now let's begin the feeding frenzy! Guests started crowding around the table as sushi platters got served Hard at work feeding the insatiable crowd The first lot of sushi platters were served, naturally everyone scrambled to get a photo before appetites took over. Brown rice sushi is widely available these days but Sushi Planet adds quinoa to it.
James @ FoodiesCucina
Sushi Planet, the only contemporary sushi bar in Adelaide, launched their service on Jan 22 on West Tce, serving traditional made-to-order sushi as well as yakitori dishes, all using freshest produce. Diners can expect to enjoy all the classic Japanese sushi dishes as well as some creative yet delicious options. Their full range of sushi can be viewed here. The new eatery did not only expand the sushi choices in Adelaide, but also brought in the first proper contemporary sushi restaurant.

There’s a new contemporary Japanese sushi place in town folks: Sushi Planet – serving up made to order sushi using the freshest fish and seafood as well as grilling yakitori skewers… and the best part, they do free deliveries in the city and most surrounding suburbs! That’s right. You can now have your sushi delivered to your house, apartment, uni or workplace. Check out the map and highlighted areas for reference with minimum order amounts applicable. I was invited to Sushi Planet’s grand opening party last week organised by the wonderful team at Girl About Town PR to sample some of the food on offer. The venue space is quite large and spacious with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, the latter being the perfect spot during the warm summer nights – that have yet to hit Adelaide, apparently the heat is coming! The decor inside is slick, modern and contemporary with a large open kitchen for us sushi eaters to take a squiz at whilst the kitchen prepares our food. Check out some of the pics from the night below: Drinks on arrival Platters of sushi As soon as the platters of sushi were set down on the main communal table, bloggers and media were quick to pounce in to take a quick snap before the crowd hovered in and wiped the platters clean! Salmon nigiri Kingfish nigiri Aburi salmon nigiri Salmon quinoa roll: brown rice roll with quinoa, salmon and avocado Sushi Planet’s healthy take on sushi using brown rice with quinoa in place of white sushi rice. I’m a huge fan of quinoa to begin with so this gets my approval immediately – even if I didn’t get to have a piece! Wasabi anyone? The kitchen hard at work California roll and aburi salmon roll I was able to snap up a few sushi pieces, the first being the California roll with crab stick, avocado, cucumber and mayonnaise rolled in flying fish roe and of course, I had to be quick to snap up a piece of aburi salmon roll with avocado, snow peas, cucumber, miso aioli, seared salmon and unagi sauce. A slight variation

You probably need to have been living under a rock to not know that a new Japanese restaurant has opened in Adelaide. Sushi Planet has been open for a week or so now (in ‘soft launch’ mode) and you may have been the very distinctive rice decorated cars – complete with giant prawn on top – about the place. Not only is Sushi Planet doing dine-in food, it’s doing delivery too. The menu focusses on sushi, sashimi and yakitori and, as something of a novelty, you will also find sushi rolls made with quinoa rather than rice.
