Review Level One - Adelaide

Bev K
Excellent presentation of food with well balanced and interesting flavours. We visited on a Friday for lunch and found the restaurant to be quiet. Staff were friendly, attentive without being overbearing, & knowledgeable. We ordered to share the scallop sashimi, grilled baby octopus, and the vegetable tempura. The scallop sashimi was excellent. The flavour of the grilled baby octopus was divine however this dish's score was reduced due to the chewiness of the octopus (needed to be tenderised further). The vegetable tempura was perfect. The batter was crispy and not oily at all. Hands down the best tempura I've eaten. For dessert we had the coconut brulee and the calpis soda jelly. Both of these were exceptional and presented beautifully. We will be returning customers.

Hmm. This is a tough one to review. On one hand, the ambience, service and plating is right up there. But on the other hand, most of the dishes that we sample were a bit underwhelming. The presentation was beautiful and really makes one keen to taste the dish. But here's where it goes a bit south after the grand entrance. It just falls a bit short of the mark when you compare them against the rustic originals that inspired the dish. That is not to say that they were not pleasant. (Except for the scallop sashimi which really tasted flat) I loved the idea of Asian inspired fusion and only wished the flavours were better represented. Having said that, service from the team was definitely the highlight of my evening. They really know how to make you feel welcome. This should be a benchmark. Hence it becomes 3 🌟 for flavour, plus 1 🌟 for everything else being way above expectation. Thank you all for a lovely evening!

Good ambient... Very interesting fusion of modern Asian cuisine. One of my friends was here before and he ordered the whole menu before coming along with me, so he ordered what he think is the best in the current menu... and I am very very pleased with the food... the bite size snowed corn and pig bits are my favourite, as they really put some effort in the stuffing which made them just blend so well when you put the whole piece in your mouth... warning: there’s some juicy in the pig bits which might burn people with sensitive mouth, but it’s so good that you don’t wanna waste a drip on your plate. So let it cool a bit before you put the whole thing in your mouth... one note: the food takes time to cook, so its a fair bit of wait and the potion of the food are not big, don’t go there if you’re a big eater or super hungry...

Beautiful space and lovely food!! Order more and share, servings are not big. Some of the stand out dishes were the steak, ribs, eggplant and tempura veges. They were delicious!

The short version would be, there are better options in this genre so wouldn't be rushing here. Pros - everything was tasty but nothing was wow. Salmon could have been but a little bit over cooked but otherwise very solid flavours. Cons - just over priced compared to its competitors which also in my opinion taste better. Went at 7pm and the place was really quiet which led to a weird vibe. Looked like about 20 of probably 70 seats were full.

Everything we had was a variation on incredible! 3/4 dishes were quite light and perfect for the summer weather. All of them full of flavour and a great mix of textures. I highly recommend Level One to anyone looking for delicious Asian cuisine. Best to be prepared to share so you can taste more! I can't say enough about the: Korean Tong Ho Salad - jellyfish, coriander, enoki, woodear mushroom ($17). If all salads tasted like this I'd never eat anything else! Love the use of the 2 mushrooms (photo included). Veal Tataki - soy, savoy cabbage, green mango ($25). Full of flavour, not heavy at all. Char-grilled eggplant - black tea bouillon, umami crunch ($16). I could have had 2 more plates of this, so wonderfully caramelised that an offering to the gods must have been made. Salmon Aburi - salmon tartare, crispy rice, shiso ($25). This dish was the heaviest of them all, but still light by most standards. The crispy rice is very fun and added a great texture (photo included). We also had the sweet potato cheesecake which was fun to try but the only dish I wouldn't immediately order again. Although I could enjoy a full bowl of the accompanying yoghurt ice cream. Drinks: My Gun, My Gin - fun and good for summer but not a re-order. Green Tea Cooler - refreshing, sweat but not sickly, minty. Hard Pink Lemonade - best of the three, sweat, refreshing and fun.

Level One offered a fresh take on Asian cuisine with some quirky combinations but still retaining the original profile of the dishes it is playing with. Food is very yummy and well balanced dishes. My group of 5 ordered a good combination of dishes, and everything was great, all but one dish with lamb rump seemed out of the range of what I'd consider Asian cuisine. Otherwise, the food and service was excellent.

Wow! Went here last Friday. Had advised in advance about my extremely annoying mouth allergy which prevents me from eating anything remotely spicy (which I adore) as we remembered from a previous couple of visits -when I was fine to eat normally, - that the menu is quite generously endowed with spicy options. Nevertheless our lovely helpful waitress had already warned the Chef who went out of his way to ensure my courses and sauces were delicious and UNspicy . Heartfelt thanks to you both. Other waiters were on hand for extra drinks so we were both delighted with our total experience.

Such delicious food! I had the vegetarian options (go the snowed corn and chargrilled eggplant in tea broth - stunning dishes!) while other half had the meat options, which looked so good I wanted them too! Staff were perfect! It’s no wonder this place has rave reviews!

Had a family dinner at Level One with 10 people last night. The new menu is exceptional. The seafood is very fresh and the oysters second to none, such great quality at a very affordable price point. The service is amazing, the staff are very knowledgeable and attentive. Can't wait to return!

Incredible food, something for everybody. Came here with 5 work mates and we would all recommend highly. Beautiful and simple menu. Our waitress Kat was amazing, she went above and beyond to cater for my picky needs.

Great innovative menu, loved every dish! Staff were amazing! Not often you come across a place that has it all; the food, the atmosphere and great people to compliment it all!

We had a family dinner at level one last night and were amazed at the high quality food that was very reasonably priced. I love the concept of shared plated food as it puts everyone at the table on the same culinary journey x The service we received was fabulous, all staff were very warm n friendly. We WILL be back! I loved the Teusners Shiraz

The only issue we had was that it was very loud. The food was amazing, the young ladies serving were spot on with manners, service and excellent at their job and the toilets - some of the best in Radelaide !! Lol We'll be back !

Delightful tasting menu! Great customer service- thanks Maddie! And "go figure" cocktail to die for!

The Scallop dish with small balls of pasta and burnt spring onion was out of this world!!

Thank you for the excellent lunch our table of 11 had yesterday with the Feed Me Fixie, certainly left there feeling full, top marks for the excellent slow cooked beef short ribs! It was a great place to celebrate.

Level One was a fantastic place to catch up with friends. Really good atmosphere and professional staff. We worked our way through the wontons, scallops, salmon aburi, the crumbed pork sanga (you need to try this!), spicey pork and salmon donburi. Each dish was great. They were also reasonably generous serves. Good wine list to go with. A very pleasant evening.

Absolutely 100% happy with this place... It's quite pricey hence the 4 stars instead of 5 but the food is very tasty... Recommendations : the charred corn and scallops in the small eats , Korean spicy pork belly in the large eats!! Thumbs up!

This is such a late review, but I'm still going to write one because my experience here has been by far one of the most positive ones to date at any restaurant! From the service to the food; everything just exceeded my expectations. Every dish was finger-licking good, and my god was that scallop dish (which were so so fresh) to die for! You can tell the chefs put a lot of time and effort in ensuring how their dishes are presented, and also in how every element on a dish comes together to give a burst of flavour like you've never had elsewhere. I'm not saying this purely based on my one dining experience, but also when a friend held her 21st birthday here. My god were the canapes such a delight! (it was so good I asked the waiter to bring out the leftovers oops)

(P.S. I rarely ever give out 5-star ratings so that's how you know the food is bloody damn good!)

Dinner for 2 - revamp of Level One. A very warm welcome when I arrived - the service was just amazing.
Food wise we had a few things from the menu for sharing and all was well. Would I go back, yes for sure.
The selection of drinks was great as well.

Absolutely amazing! As soon as you enter the restaurant you know you are somewhere special. From the moment we were welcomed to Level One and throughout the entire evening the staff were fabulous. .. warm, friendly and attentive. The look and feel of Electra house is just beautiful... and wow the food is eveything I expected and more ... simply incredible!! Beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, attention to the finer details and all round Flavour Flavour Flavour. Cannot wait to head back!

Service is excellent, atmosphere and internal design are beyond expectation. However, food taste is even lower than average (some dishes can only taste salt) that ruined the reputation of "Asian food", that the chef needs more work on balance flavour and creativity.

Level One Restaurant replaces what was once Olea and has moved from a Greek Restaurant to an Asian inspired menu. The current menu is designed by Chef Jamie Kang who draws from his experience and heritage to bring something new. The decor and setting is sophisticated, food presentation is elegant. On our first visit we opted to go for the Omakase ($65), in other words feed me.

We came here for an important milestone dinner and needless to say, it was an excellent choice. The overall experience turned out to be enjoyable thanks to wonderful service from wait staff, as well as well-coordinated decor and furnishings. Ambience was perfect, and it was nice to pair that with such an interesting menu.

Since it was a group dinner, we decided to order a few plates to share. For salmon fans like ourselves, the Salmon Aburi was a creative twist on a known and loved crowd favourite. The crispy rice was the perfect textural accompaniment! The pan seared scallops were also a highlight of the meal, with the miso cream adding another dimension to the fresh seafood flavour.

Other dishes we ordered were the Shiitake Ravioli, Fried Octopus, Korean Squid Pancake, Pan-Seared Scallop, BBQ Pork Belly and Vegetable Tempura.

The only drawback, unfortunately, was the cost. Pricing was just a little steep considering the serving size, but for a special occasion it is a great spot to try. The flavours certainly won't leave you disappointed!
Foodie Paradise
Amazing! The waitresses there were super friendly helpful. We wanted a specific type of cocktail and they were able to accomodate our needs! Gin list is quite extensive as well!
The food was delicious! Though the price is definitely on the high end. The chicken wings were the highlight of the night as the skins were crispy to bite in and the flavours just burst into your mouth! The pork ribs were great too! It had the perfect amount of spice! The rib eye was average, probably would have preferred a bigger size of the ribs than the rib eye! The salmon aburi was quite unique with the crunchy rice instead plain sushi rice. Also ate the scallops and eggplant where both fantastic. Would definitely recommend!

This space has undergone many changes. This restaurant now is excellent. The aburi salmon is amazing, with different textures. The ravioli is better than the gnocchi. The snowballs are a delight too.The desserts are inspired. Prices on the high side

We had a truly wonderful experience at Level One. First of all, service was amazing! All the staffs were warm, welcoming and friendly. Special mention to our primary host, Katie, who was absolutely delightful from start to finish. She was sweet yet professional and very knowledgeable with the food menu as well as drink recommendations.

We sampled quite a variety of the dishes and they were mostly very delicious, mind you with quite the price tag.

The pork ribs were definitely the stand-out dish, they were slow cooked to fall apart beautifully with a rich smokey BBQ sauce that was packed with flavours and then charred to perfection.

The scallops had an impressive flavour combination, very small portion but they were so tasty.

Sirloin was decent, the miso yoghurt sauce pairing was a tad odd, the acidity of the yoghurt didn’t quite go with the richness of the steak. The cut had quite a bit of fat on but there’s no need to shy away from it as we found it to be best part of this dish. It was nicely seasoned and melted in your mouth.

The chicken wings were ok, it was nice, but not more to elaborate on.

Last dish we shared was the shiitake mushroom ravioli, it was a bit of let down, the raviolis were slightly doughy and the sauce a little too thin for our liking, also the filling didn’t have a strong shiitake flavour and overall the dish was quite bland.

Fishing it off, we ordered two desserts, the matcha chifon and black sesame sponge. They were both nice, but not amazing, we preferred the matcha over sesame. Being a dessert enthusiast and connoisseur, the cakes themselves were pretty underwelming, but they were nicely paired with other elements of the dish that offered an array of flavours and textures.

I’d definitely recommend this place for diners in Adelaide looking for a nice ambiance and some good ol asian fusion of flavours! However, make sure you bring your deep pockets as the dishes are fairly small portions and quite overpriced.

Lovely Asian fusion food in a beautiful and funky space with hints of pink and cream. Between three of us we had the wagyu beef, salmon, swordfish, scallops, eggplant, broccolini and cucumber sorbet with a cocktail each for $170. Delicious. My picks for incentive and fresh flavours were the sorbet and salmon with crispy rice. Eggplant worth ordering too.

A very hip, trendy restaurant. It's got a modern feel to it. The atmosphere is great, they have a large selection of wines. I especially loved the buy-2-get-1-free Espresso martinis from 9 pm onward.

The waitress recommended that we all share dishes, instead of ordering individual ones. There were 9 of us and we ordered 9 different dishes, with two serves each of 3 entrees.

I feel that even though the food were delicious, it is extremely overpriced especially for the servings you get.

I know a few of us from our party that bought food elsewhere after dinner. It simply wasn't filling enough. Maybe that was our fault for not ordering enough, but I guess if the servings weren't so tiny, we would've been full.

I would probably go back again someday, and only for a special occasion.

I was recommended this place by a good friend and finally has the chance to try it. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, dimmed lights with light music playing in the background. We ordered a lot of dishes to try a few things out. Definitely try the strawberry marcerated gin and tonic they offer. Would most definitely recommend that you order the aburi salmon - it's so unique and absolutely delicious. Other highlights of the night were the veal tataki and the cucumber sorbet. Their entrees are definitely more notable then their mains. A rather disappointing aspect of the experience was that the food took forever to arrive. We waited almost an hour between the first and second main dishes. Though, they did give us complimentary dessert because of the wait which was nice of them.

Level 1 at Electra House is the reboot of their initial restaurant, the award winning Olea. This has been the case for about a year now, however it has gone through a futher refinement of the concept. With a new chef on board, Jamie Kang, there has been a marked shift in the current menu from the Greek inspired Olea. ‘Asian fusion’ is the order of the day now, with Jamie bringing many years of experience in Modern Australian, Italian and Japanese cuisine, paired with flavours from his Korean heritage, and forming the basis for their contemporary menu.
Adelaidefoodcentral
New Executive Chef Jamie Kang uses Japanese and Korean influences in a delightfully light yet fulfilling menu. A more casual influence than the original Level One launch, there is a distinctly sophisticated edge which aligns with the stunning dining room which glows with candlelight. Adelaide Food Central was invited to last week’s new menu launch and this is an all round menu I can’t talk up enough.
On The Chopping Board
On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was invited to a New Wines of Greece lunch at Level One at Electra House. All wines and food were provided on behalf of New Wines of Greece and Level One. New Wines of Greece arrived in Adelaide after hosting masterclasses and tastings in Sydney and Melbourne and OTCB was lucky to spend a lunch exploring a variety of wines from Greece. I (Amanda) was excited as one, I don't think I have ever tried wine from Greece before and secondly, the wine was to be matched with the brilliant food at Level One (check out our previous menu tasting review).
On The Chopping Board
Level One is situated on level one (funny that!) of Electra House and recently took over the same dining room where Olea once resided. We had the opportunity to visit Olea on a couple of occasions but were never really very impressed (see Olea Launch and Where's the Meat for our previous reviews). So on invitation to Level One we were a little apprehensive to say the least, as to what this new look, cuisine and chef would deliver.

Level One is the new restaurant located inside Electra House. The old heritage building has been restored into a funky modern venue that gives off a cool hip vibe. Scampi with lime, avocado, chilli and puffed wild rice. This dish was so light and tangy and melted in the mouth. Loved the combination of creamy avocado and crunchy puffed rice.

Came here with a friend and ordered several dishes. The favourite was the essence of pork (although the consommé was slightly too salty) and the cheesecake dessert which was heavenly. The service was friendly and welcoming, and I would consider going back to try the other menu items.
Jacqui's Food Fetish
If you haven’t tried Level One, the new restaurant that’s replaced Greek restaurant Olea on the first floor of Electra House, you should definitely go. I only went to Olea once when it first opened, part of the $10m development of heritage listed Electra House in King William Street, just north of the GPO. Olea had mixed reviews, but I enjoyed my meal there. I have to say though, I find the food now being offered at Level One a lot more exciting. It’s my kind of food. The man behind the new menu is chef Satoshi Kikuchi (Sato), formerly of Sean’s Kitchen and North. I’ve always been a bit of a fan and I was a bit sad when I found out he was leaving Sean’s Kitchen, but at the same time I was a little excited about what he was going to do next. And here it is.

Electra House's upstairs area was fully remodelled, and a Greek restaurant: Olea was to be the venue's signature restaurant. That was, before a spate of bad reviews forced it to close. Now, the upstairs space has reopened with a new Asian fusion restaurant: Level One.

We'd previously tried to dine on a Saturday night, but the restaurant was booked out, so early signs indicate the place has been popular.

We managed to get in on a Friday night for dinner. Up Electra House's grand staircase, Level One's bright blue and pink colour scheme and light timber furniture combine for a very cool fit-out - no expense has been spared here. The restaurant was smaller than expected for such a large space.

We dined with four people. The waitress, who was pretty good all night, explained the food menu had been designed for sharing and encouraged us to do so.
To begin essence of pork, essentially a liquid bacon and eggs, was strange. Next a lamb ham with pickled vegetables was better. Some seafood: scollops and aburi trout were the night's best dishes and much better than the previous two. A watermelon salad as a side was also nice. To finish, the chocolate and the strawberry dessert options. Chocolate was excellent, but strawberry dish was unexciting and plain.

The food, whilst it was all pretty good, was certainly not equipped to be shared - unlike what we'd been told. With four diners, there was three of some items and others were far too small to even try dividing. In this area, the restaurant needs to improve.

In other areas, we were impressed. The service was excellent. The drinks menu also very good. A great list of South Australian wines, as well as international ones. There's also a good selection of beers and cocktails.

The place was more expensive than expected, but everything was quite good. Now, with a better handle of the menu, I'd probably return for another try.

Upstairs from Electra House, Level One is an Asian fusion restaurant that has a modern Art Deco feel to it with blue floor boards and pastel pink walls. We went for lunch on a weekday when the restaurant was quiet. Wait staff were quick, friendly and very helpful with explaining the menu. They explained that the best way to think of the menu was like a Chinese restaurant menu where you order a bunch of different sized dishes to share.

The best dish we had was the aburi trout with nori gel and rice puff/cracker? which was like a deconstructed aburi nigiri. The starters were also great scampi and crabmeat. I really liked the fish balls which were basically an aracini ball with eel, my partner was not a fan though. We got the pickled mushroom jar as a side and these were surprisingly delicious. The other two larger dishes we got were the wagyu beef with yuzu aioli and miso eggplant. I found both of this dishes to be average and have had much better wagyu elsewhere.

For dessert we had the lime cheesecake and the strawberry parfait. The lime cheesecake was served with a fig ice cream and salsa as well as basil seeds and coconut cream to give it an Asian touch. I didn't think these flavours worked too well together. The strawberry parfait was good, a bit sour, but I enjoyed the different textures especially fairy floss, foam, and meringue.

Overall, I generally liked the food, especially the aburi trout. The atmosphere is great, they have a large wine list and Asahi on tap. I felt that some dishes were really well priced like the aburi trout and others were overpriced. I would definitely be back though to try more of their menu.
