Review Nola Adelaide - Adelaide

Kim
Lovely small bar with really good soul food, unexpected but a welcome surprise! The hurricane cocktail is delicious, and the beignets are as good as you'd find in New Orleans (they just need to learn how to pronounce it!) Definitely will be back. Lovely staff too. Appreciated the contactless order system.

Busy upstairs during the Urban Cocktail walk. One person behind the bar who was kept busy serving. No menus upstairs but was still able to order food which arrived promptly. Revisited for some cocktails and a Po Boy roll on a Saturday afternoon.

NOLA Adelaide exceeded my expectations. The food was surprisingly amazing for a small bar. The general consensus is that the fried chicken is extremely tasty, I can confirm that statement. The skin is very crispy and the chicken is amazingly juicy. I had a great experience at NOLA and I would definitely return to try more of their menu and drinks.

Easy to find and a great little eclectic pub. Large range of craft beers in a cosy setting. Staff are always great and the small food menu won’t disappoint. Perfect for groups of 5 or less or taking a date. Try the beer paddle, great value for money and opportunity to try a few beers at once.

Amazing food and amazing atmosphere, I have to say that the singer was so good at it that we were questioning if it was like a radio channel or a CD. The vibe was absolutely fantastic, drinks was amazing as well, the first cocktail (had passion fruit in it) that we got was surprisingly sweet since there wasn't any taste of alcohol at all, great for newbies but the one we got after was pretty strong, we couldn't even finish half a glass cause the whiskey was just too strong(scotch something), great for long term drinkers or whiskey lovers.

First time I've been here and I really enjoyed it and would definitely go again. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the cocktails were delicious and the atmosphere is just perfect for a few Sunday afternoon cocktails.

I had been told this place was great, but I really wasn't expecting the food to be so good. We tried their Big Easy banquet and everything that came out was fantastic. Loved the shrimp dip and Cornbread especially. Our group took advantage of the extensive stout selection and the cocktails were fun too. Staff seemed to be a bit distracted or disinterested but that didn't seem to detract to much from the overall experience. Definitely worth a try đź‘Ť

From the minute that we walked in you could not beat the friendly staff. We were given a jug of water and glasses with lime and ice, without having to make a request. We ordered our food and drinks. The food menu is compact but full of really good offerings. The alcohol offerings are vast and it is very difficult to make a choice. There are at least 10 craft beers and hundreds of bottles of spirits on offer. The food when it came was really tasty, fresh and hot. The sauces appear to be homemade and were very good. Overall I would highly recommend this place and will be visiting. The staff are really friendly and attentive and the place is brilliant

If you're looking for good customer service, you're going to be very disappointed with Nola....from the menu being different from the menu advertised on the website in terms of food and drinks, to staff drinking from their friends drinks (after looking around to make sure the manager can't see them) and also eating from their friends food whilst on duty. Our dinner was just dumped on the table by male staff member with not one word from him, on clearing our table, we were trested with a grunt, and not one comment asking how our food was. On the subject of food it was pretty ordinary, with the jambalaya being microwaved at a guess given ridiculously hot it was and thats not to mention the small size of the "larger" plates, I would hate to see the size of the "smaller" plates going by the small portions we received. To summarise...overpriced drinks and food, small portions and rude staff, we won't return and won't recommend

By far the best mushroom dish I've ever had! And the staff were absolutely great. Would definitely go back and recommend to other people.

while staff is friendly they serve beers half full with foam. I had the cinanmon flavoured Victorian moonshine. good atmosphere on a sat night

I am from Melbourne & have to say I absolutely loved our experience at NOLA Adelaide.<br/><br/>First off, the vibe & ambiance is cool, relaxed, welcoming & unpretentious. Decor is subtle & not try hard like some Melbourne restaurants that try to offer something different. <br/><br/>The drinks menu is extensive, especially if you like Whisky. Very extensive.<br/><br/>The food is delicious in its simplicity. We had the fried chicken & tater tots which were cooked to perfection & served piping hot & fresh! Neither were over seasoned or try to be too clever by adding new/crazy ingredients that tend to ruin food most of the time.<br/><br/>This place has done a very good job & we were very pleased.<br/><br/>I would recommend that if you are sitting upstairs it would be nice for some light Cajun music to be playing in the background for added ambiance. It was a bit too quiet for me. <br/><br/>Our French waiter was attentive & customer service cannot be faulted.

Nola is a consistently great place to go. The staff are always awesome and they always have something new on their menu. They also encourage you to try new things which I like. Excellent beer selection with a huge whiskey menu. Small wine list. The menu is excellent - everything looks appetising. The fried chicken is a must have. Great stuff coming out of a tiny kitchen.

Perfect spot to hang out with friends on a Friday / Saturday night or a weekend afternoon. Delicious fried chicken paired with a nice cocktail or whiskey or cold beer- what more can you ask for. Great service .. good music. Really I have nothing bad to say !

NOLA (short for New Orleans, Louisiana) is a cool bar just off Rundle St known for its impressive selection of Whisky and Craft beer. However being me, I wanted to try NOLA for their fried chicken.<br/><br/>The boneless fried chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a nice hint of a garlic kick. It stood alone well, and did not need the sauce that came with it. With a great range of soul food on offer, we also tried the Beef Brisket (pictured, bottom right) and Pork Po Boy (pictured, top left) – a traditional sandwich from Louisiana that I thought was only available in America. The beef brisket was definitely my favourite! It was flavoursome with that BBQ sweetness, and it came with a Jalapeno corn bread too, which I’ve always wanted to try. The Po Boy was just as imagined, a homely sandwich and the bread OMG, crisp but fluffy on the inside.<br/><br/>A little intimidated by the drinks list, we asked one of the super friendly staff members which they would suggest. They recommended a whisky sour with a twist for us girls, and now I am hooked on them. We also tried a cocktail from their list, with it’s base ingredient being Moonshine, and that went down a treat too.<br/><br/>The place itself has the New-Orleans charm, with it’s rustic décor and warm tones making it very welcoming. There are cosy areas upstairs and downstairs areas, which I like as the set-up gives a sense of privacy.<br/><br/>Very original and well-worth the money for authentic southern food, which is hard to find in Adelaide. NOLA is a must if you're down the East-End of town.

Cute little craft beer bar adding yet a lil more pizazz to the already trendy Vardon Ave. Only popped in for a wee bevvy and a snack so can't say too much, but would like to come back for a wee bitta jazz and some more beers and nibbles. Place is small though cosy, service was chilled & friendly & the place just gave off good vibes. Will return đź‘Ť

This is a great bar. Jazz music, creole food, fantastic drinks and friendly staff. Had the "feed me" option which is a small sample of each menu item - great food and flavours and fun. Would definitely recommend.
Imasugarjunkie
Great menu with lots of flavor. We had the gumbo, chicken and waffles and potato salad. Well priced and generous serves. Great drinks menu too
Flavio
OK place to go and try some craft beers. The food though, well that was sub par. Way overpriced for what you get and even then it didn't taste very good. Eat before you get there.

Clockwise from left; wild venison meatballs, gumbo, bean and corn salad, crocodile sausage and ribs, heritage beef brisket. NOLA has become an institution in Adelaide for those who love beer, whiskey and soul food. But as much as we love trying. one of the rotating sixteen beers on tap, this trip to NOLA was singularly for the purpose of sampling the menu. Pretty much the whole menu, which for $39 a head, you can do too.

Regular visitor to Adelaide for business but tonight was my first time here. Great range of beers on tap. I ordered the Collard Greens and a serve of fried chicken. Both were fantastic. The greens were perfectly cooked (not mushy, still with some crunch) with perfectly salty and smokey bacon....

Fantastic new bar in Adelaide, ambience 5/5! Drink range also exceptional and good staff. Unfortunately the food was extremely overpriced and very salty!

Nice bar with an extensive spirits menu. Not necessarily the best option for dining, as the venue is cramped and the dishes pricey. <br/><br/>I had "Polenta Fried Tomatoes", which had good flavour and was served with a tasty dipping sauce. My dining buddies chose "Jimbalaya - Eggplant", and "Black-Eyed Peas and Charred Corn". The consensus was that all meals were passable, without blowing us away. They were also on the small side. Still hungry, some of us ordered "Missisippi Mudcake". Much to our surprise, it came as a plate of different flavoured mousses, drizzled with a whisky topping and biscuit crumbs. Being a mousse lover, I was quite happy. My only complaint is that the topping overpowered the dish (whisky is what they're all about).<br/><br/>The menu appears to change, therefore I'd return to sample something else. My advice to others looking for a bite would be to visit earlier in the day to avoid huge crowds, seeing as there is not a separate dining area.

Great to see a small bar with plenty of different beer on tap. Was a great atmosphere and food. The food prices seemed a little high for the serving size though.

Didn't enjoy as much as I had hoped! Took a while to be served. Waiting staff a bit too cool, not as attentive. Didn't eat but food looked good, will try again!

NOLA, aka: New Orleans, Louisiana is the latest in a long list of 'small' bars to enter Adelaide's CBD. Located behind Rundle street in Ebenezer Place, the two-story NOLA specializes in local and international whiskeys, independent and craft beers, as well as a New Orleans inspired food menu. <br/><br/>We had heard good things from friends and Zomato reviews so visited the place on a Sunday evening for dinner. Inside, the place is very cool. There's a bar both upstairs and downstairs, with booths, bar stools and tables available; there's also limited seats outside. <br/><br/>The drinks and food menu, which I'm told is constantly rotated, is quite interesting. There is a huge list of local and international beers from many breweries I wasn't familiar with. Additionally, they also have 16 taps with a rotating list of craft beers. The wine, cocktail and, of course, whiskey list is also good. The food menu has about 12 items that range from $10 to $20, which is great value  <br/><br/>Between two people we shared four dishes: the blackened fish, fried chicken, duck and chorizo mini paella and a black bean salad. As other reviewers have said: the chicken was very good and certainly the night's best dish. Paella and fish were both also good, but found the salad a bit boring. The 'Fringe Ale' craft beer on tap was also nice. <br/><br/>The service, well, it was a little slow, but the place is new and, perhaps, this is one area that could be improved. In all, I would return here for the fried chicken and to try more of the craft beers. Would also recommend others to try the place out.

As an avid home hop grower, I can say that without a doubt NOLA is the best place in Adelaide to taste a variety of local, hop-heavy craft beers. With a Whiskey list longer than the Great Wall of China, this venue to me is the crown jewel in the east-end crown. Friendly staff able to offer samplers of all brews. Will be a regular here in no time!

This is a great bar, very original in a city bustling with new venues. Beautiful fit out leaving a welcoming feel, time has been spent to do it properly! No pallet wood here. Awesome place for international visitors who want to sample Australia's finest beers. Whiskey drinkers will be delighted with the array of high end whiskeys on the menu. The food was incredible, can't go past the fried chicken with a hoppy IPA

NOLA is a great new addition to Adelaide's East End. It boasts one of the best whiskey and beer lists I have seen in quite a while. From the second I walked in the door I was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was a little sceptical about the food at first as I was expecting NOLA to be more of a bar focusing on drinks. This being said I was very pleased with what I received. The Fried Chicken was something else and the fried green tomatoes were a real surprise, bursting with flavour (although as any cooked tomato they were very hot). <br/><br/>I would highly recommend heading down and giving this place a look.

What a brilliant bar and exactly what Adelaide needed. The food was sensational and chicken was to die for. With numerous taps there was a drink for everyone's taste. My wife is not a beer drinker and was incredibly impressed with the espresso martinis and alternative cocktails available. Looking forward to our next visit.

Best range of craft beers I've seen! Had a great night working my way through the selection and critiquing them with the friendly staff. I didn't try the food but it looked mega tasty. Can't wait to go back for another night out.

After hearing much hype around town I made the journey to<br/>NOLA with my wife for a quiet drink and some nibbles after work. The décor<br/>immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed with the rustic feel combined<br/>with vibrant colours  and a mesmerising<br/>chandelier above the entrance all contributing to that sensation. We sat at a<br/>booth on the lower level which was comfortable and provided a clear view of the<br/>impressive beer selection chalk board. <br/>After  several minutes of reading<br/>through beer names such as "2 meter tall - 5yr old  special release forester" and<br/>"Smiling Samoyed - Kolsch"  I<br/>ended up deciding upon the "Swell - Golden Ale". My wife was driving<br/>that night and decided on their light beer, which was good to see offered on<br/>tap. <br/><br/>For food we got a serve of the Venison meat balls and Fried<br/>chicken to share. Both came out really fast and were piping hot. The “chef’s<br/>selection sauce" was a nice alternative to what I would have expected,<br/>even if I cannot remember exactly what it was called!<br/><br/>All in all it was a great evening out and I will definitely<br/>drop in next time I'm down the East End to taste more off the ever changing<br/>beer and food menus.

Great staff, delicious food (definitely recommend the beef po'boy and fried chicken) and a massive selection of all the craft beer you could ever imagine! 16 beers on tap and an extensive range of bottled craft beers. The staff are always happy to provide suggestions. Very impressed with how they keep up with so many choices. Yet to get into their whiskies but seems to be a pretty extensive selection of local and US whiskies. Definitely going to become a regular visitor to this little place for as long as my wallet and liver can keep up!

This new addition to the bustling East End of Radelaide came with much hype and excitement. I thought I would bring a few people here to wile away an afternoon with drinks and nibbles because I am still on holiday! <br/>We were all very impressed with the space which was bright, airy and vibrant, a nod to its New Orleans inspiration. With two levels and a rocking ducted airconditioning system, this place will do well over our mad Summers.<br/>Boasting an impressive collection of whiskey and grained spirits and craft beers, this would appeal to a large demographic. Not a beer or whiskey drinker myself, I ordered a gin and tonic. There was only one choice and it set me back a surprising $12. The girls ordered cocktails and whiskeys and thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate that they tried to cater to many tastes, however, one gin option is really poor form, especially when we have local producers with a growing gin following.<br/>Moving on, our tummy is growling for solids to line our stomach. The menu is tiny, and to my disappointment, they removed the fried chicken from the menu. Something that is an icon in New Orleans. I settled for a Po'boy with softshelled crab as my pick. However, I was informed they were out and that mussels is the replacement. Why not I thought? <br/>Other dishes included fried green tomatoes, wild boar meatballs and gumbo. Unfortunately, the verdict was not good on any of these meals except one. My mussels tasted like it came out of a can, with a $15 pricetag served in a Vietnamese breadroll, one would expect more than 8 mussels. The fried green tomatoes was bland and the oil need to be changed. The gumbo had an interesting flavour, but looked and tasted sloppy. The only saving grace was the boar meatballs. Presentation was nice and the meat was well done. Flavours was good here.<br/>We would return, however, it won't be for the food. I understand that teething problems are common with any new venture, so will make another visit later down the track.

Amazing service and food! So refreshing to see something new and different in Adelaide. Would definitely recommend the fried chicken and po'boys
The Adelaidian
The latest addition to the booming small bar scene in Adelaide is a two-storied joint in the old stables down the East End. The name NOLA stands for New Orleans, Louisiana, and the bar aims to encompass all the amazing quirks the city is so famous for. Specialising in whiskey, they pride themselves on stocking some of the best and rarest whiskeys from America and Australia. Moonshine, bourbon and rye are just some of the tailored collection available, and the pricing won’t break the bank.
Adelaidefoodcentral
NOLA, short for New Orleans, Louisiana is a new bar bringing a touch of Southern hospitality to the East End of Adelaide. Situated between Rundle Street and Ebenezer place, the two story bar is already establishing a name for itself and it’s large selection of American and Australian Whisk(e)ys, classic Louisiana cocktails and their Creole and Cajun inspired Soul food.

What a cool place. New Orleans in Adelaide. Beautiful place. Staff were amazing. Food was good. Adelaide is moving on up. Would match any big city bars. Keep this up and they just might make the top 10 list for weekend party spots.

A tiny bar tucked away just off Rundle Street, this joint is really cool. The decor is on point; with a pressed tin splashback and neon signage, but it's merely something to look at while enjoying one of the 16 craft beers off the taps. Some, I dare say, not ever tapped in Adelaide before (watch out Wheaty and the Earl!). If there's nothing you like on tap, their bottle list is small but high quality, and I'm not a whiskey drinker but their wall is covered in good looking bottles too. The bar staff know what they're doing and can make recommendations if you're unsure.<br/>We ate the fried chicken, smoked wild boar meatballs and mussel and prawn jumbalaya. Chicken was the best by far. The serving sizes are small but that just means you can try a few different things. The perfect beer food. Oh, and you get complimentary cajun spiced popcorn on arrival - awesome!<br/>Even though it's across two levels, this place is still really small. Which is kinda cool, but I imagine if you don't get in early on weekends, you might not get in at all. We were lucky to score the last booth early on a quiet Tuesday night.
