Review Ryo's Noodles - Adelaide

Kai C D (Kevin)
Decent ramen restaurant. Extremely crowded and they do not have upstairs open. Waited a while to.get a seat. They have a wide variety of ramen. Average taste. Not the most authentic flavour. Fried chicken taste great. Gyoza doesn't taste good. Friendly and fast service. Waiter should be careful with how they hold a hot bowl of ramen. Nearly burned his hands and spilled the bowl.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Felt like the noodles were very good quality and the spicy broth was great. They even have a challenge which is always fun to see.

Consistently good ramen here. I can't go past the pork ramen and the pork is always really tender. The broth has a fantastic flavour. Good noodles too. The staff are friendly and efficient and the service is prompt so Ryo's Noodles is a good lunchtime option.

Ryo's is decent. I've been going here since 2019 and the quality has been quite consistent throughout the different stages of the past 3 years. The broth is more on the thick side here compared to other venues. 8/10

Hands down the most authentic Tonkotsu Pork Ramen in Adelaide. Every single time, it's an absolute winner. Just incredible.

This is my favourite place in Adelaide, in my opinion it's a place you must visit if you like Japanese cuisine. Everything from here tatsed amazing, staff are friendly and helpful and it's always a short wait for food.
Katrina
The Japanese food is really nice and fresh, but a bit salty. Staff are really friendly and attentive, very accomodating for requests.

Spicy yet flavoursm pork bone broth. Not bad for a quick ramen fix. Decent sized bowl. Char siu was good and big. Karaage chicken was quite crispy and gyoza was succulent and juicy. Egg was bit overcooked. The ramen and Don set with sides was quite worth it.

Noodles are my thing and I've had them everywhere (including Japan). Unfortunately, the number 25 on the menu was gross as it was basically a soup of pork lard (fat). It was so thick and greasy that it created a crust of fat on the surface of the dish towards the end. I should have taken a picture to post here. Also, it came with 2 extremely thin slices of the pork, when they should be at least 1/2 cm each. Service was great, food was bad :(<br/>

Great service, wonderfully balanced spicy pork ramen. Asked for extra garlic paste, to flavour to my liking, and it was amazing. Enjoy

Ramen noodle soup was quite thick and delicious, my friend was too enjoy his spicy soup and add another serving of noodles. Honestly, you should try the pork soup with no regrets<br/>

Fantastic service and great food! We were immediately greeted at the door and seated and the service was outstanding. This is the best ramen I have ever tasted even in Japan. We will be coming back.

Dining here is getting more expensive each time we visit, for 15-16$ a bowl of noodle you have heaps of noodles, half an egg and ONE piece of super thinly sliced char siu, they used to give you a few and we can live with that. Apart from that everything else is fine, oh and it’s our first time trying the octopus, seems fresh, very crunchy, the only thing you could do better is properly drained, dabbed off the oil with some kitchen towel perhaps, when we finish the octopus there were still a great amount of residual oil on the plate. At this rate, what we have for the price we pay, perhaps Ryo won’t be our 1st choice for Ramen in Adelaide the next time we crave some.

Ordered spicy karaage and spicy pork ramen (extra chasiu and bamboo shoots). Overall food is just average (comparing with ramen in Melbourne). Karaage is tasty but oily. Ramen broth is ok but again feels oily. Chasiu is also so so. Ambiance and service was good. I left full but also feel a bit over oily. I can guarantee can't beat 6 ramen in 2 hours.

Will come back for:<br/>+ Karaage (Fried Chicken)<br/>+ Deep Fried Octopus<br/>+ Spicy Ramen<br/><br/>After days of western food, we were longing for some comforting Asian dishes and this place did the trick! Located at the Adelaide China town, this place serves a mean ramen. We tried the pork and fish stock ramen, the spicy ramen, and some karaage (one of the best), deep fried octopus, takoyaki (squid balls) and some Yuzu citrus and cold Japanese tea to wash it all down. The soups here are a bit on the fatty side, but makes the mouth feel smooth and tasty (imho). The karaage was one of the best I’ve had. Service was excellent and prompt and pricing was above average. Will be back if we are ever in town again!

Ryos is my go to ramen place. Been plenty of times. Never disappointed. Good for a quick bowl of ramen when you have the craving. Tonkatsu is rich and flavourful. Menu has extended to include bento boxes and rice dishes. Everything is decent. But cant beat that ramen

A busy, clean ramen joint with a large variety of Japanese soups. Service and food was fast. I ate the Tokyo chicken broth and pork. The noodles were firm and plentiful. It came with thinly sliced and well cooked char siu pork belly (if you like your char siu then add more!). The broth was flavoursome (typically clean chicken & salty broth). I tasted the spicy tonkatsu broth. It was rich and a little fatty. Would recommend for a reliable ramen.

Noodles were off smelt like chicken manure, all we could taste was fat fat fat from the broth. Fyi!! Thanks to the short haired tall slim looking chick for slamming my partner bowl down and walked away. Bad service, awful food and if you cant do customer service get a real job

Adelaide doesn’t have a lot of options in terms of ramen but Ryo’s is relatively well known so I️ thought I’d give it a try. We had a few different types of ramen, with fried chicken and pork buns on the side. The sides were great. The ramen itself was pretty good but could improve somewhat. I️ didn’t notice it being too salty as some reviewers have described but I️ do have a high salt tolerance. 😂 The fattiness of the soup however was very noticeable and the next day our leftovers had quite a thick layer of fat on top. Service was average with some staff being better than others. For example, we were greeted quickly at the start of the night but when we wanted to get some takeaway containers later there was no-one to be seen, and when we did find a staff member they gave us only 2 containers for our 3 different bowls of ramen 🤔 Overall a good feed and would most likely return but they’re probably lucky not to have too much competition nearby.

YR Score: F3/E4/R3<br/>yrscore.com<br/><br/>F - I ordered the recommended spicy ramen. The aroma when it first arrived was an F5. It will have been an F5 if the actual taste of the food is as good as the aroma. I guess that the great smell was from the oil topping, truffle perhaps? The broth was alright, could have been better if it was more flavourful. The noodle felt powdery on the first bite. <br/><br/>E - nice setting and environment. Friendly and attentive staffs. The even refilled my green tea without me asking. Definitely a plus point. <br/><br/>R - Considering that there are other restaurants around this area. This restaurant wouldn't be at the top of my list to return.

It was OK, not bad but not fantastic either. Not really friendly staff nor effective service. I have visited Ryo’s noodle several times. I don’t think that the quality of foods and service have kept well over the time.
Asha
Cheap and quick service. Taste... Not the best Japanese food I've had but not the worse either... Average, I would say. Ramens would be my choice compared to the rice dishes

I don’t know why this is only 3.2, all I can say is this town have no idea. Ryo’s noodles in Sydney has a line everyday including lunchtime. <br/><br/>I’m surprised the soup is the same as Sydney, I thought it wouldn’t be as good. But I was wrong.<br/><br/>I’ll be here every time when I’m in town.
James Beshara
Soup is flavourful and has a beautiful presentation. The stock is packed full of pork flavour but not too salty which is a common complaint with ramen. Would definitely eat here again, beautiful!

My favourite place for ramen in Adelaide. I never knew good ramen until I ate here. I think it is the best in Adelaide. <br/>Noodles taste fresh and the broths are amazing. The pork broth is fattier and thicker but it is sooooo satisfying when you are hungry. They can adjust the saltiness level to suit you but the normal level is perfect. It comes with all the trimmings like bamboo egg and stuff (see the menu) but some people may want to order extra meat. The chicken broth is lighter and less fatty. Only problem is it comes with only half a boiled egg as opposed to the pork which comes with a whole boiled egg. I get the chicken broth when I'm sick or watching my weight. They also have a fish broth which is great hot seafood lovers and those who cannot decide between pork or chicken broth. Get the recommended chef ramen choices if you are new, but try the other flavours if you are familiar with real Japanese ramen. <br/>They do have rice dishes but I haven't tried them yet. <br/>The service is quick and friendly. It is a ramen fast food service so don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. The restaurant is clean and decor is modern. <br/>It can get busy pretty quickly and may have a wait but everyone eats quick at this place so you won't be waiting for long. I've always wondered what is upstairs though and if they would open up seating upstairs.<br/>I'm giving it a 4.5 star rating only as a casual food restaurant. Ryo's is awesome and great for a cheap eat. Get your ramen fix!!!
Trevor
Worst ramen I have ever tasted. I tried Roy’s when it first opened, it was extremely salty and we couldn’t even eat it. Came back to give it another chance. It is even worse now. No flavour and the soup has so much fat. Your mouth just get coated with fat, absolutely disgusting. Never will eat at Roy’s again
Morris
A delicious tokyo style broth. Very flavoursome i enjoyed every spoonful. My only wish was that ramen were better. If only they offered fresh made hundcut ramen instead of round slippery ones they would score much higher. My bbq chichen was a good replacement as i did nit want roast pork
Yutear
Service was quite poor, the staff always seemed busy and took a lot of time before attending to us. Food was just okay, not a must-try and should probably be given a miss.

My first introduction to Ramen and it was delicious. Spicy, warming, tasty.. the flavours of the broth along with the melt in your mouth pork and slightly chewy noodles made for an amazing dish. We also enjoyed a side of spicy chicken...the chicken was so juicy with a delicious crispy coating....without a doubt it was spicy!!

I went here for some hot ramen one night and it certainly warmed me up. Good flavours at a very reasonable price. will come back for more, especially on those cold nights

Very friendly and fast service. Excellent ramen selection.   I try to come here every week to get my spicy ramen fix.   Nice interior and very welcoming.   Highly recommend~

Food was okay. Spicy ramen (I think no. 27) was quiet nice but oily. If u really hate to taste salty food I highly recommended to ask staff for reduce salt in your soup. However, I mainly disappointed in their survives. Was not busy moment ( like only another two tables including staff table) but staff was not willing to take an order from our table. When we said ""excuse me"" to one of the tall girl, even tho she did eye contact to us, she just walked away from us for really no reason. And this was not only once. It makes us uncomfortable. Food was generally okay but services needs to be improve for sure.

First time to have ramen in Adelaide and it was not bad! The soup was tasty and spicy enough. Tried soft ramen this time and that's not bad. Moreover, ordered some snack as shown and I love the soft shell crab the most! Takoyaki was just fair.
DL
Three of use went in really looking for a delicious delicate ramen. Two had the 'recommended' spicy pork ramen (no 27) and one had the chef daily special (also pork). We had the added lunchtime special which was either gyoza, kaarage takoyaki with green tea for an extra $3! We were all disappointed in the ramen. It was glutinous and would undoubtedly set as it cooled and the flavour was pretty average. The gyoza was good as was the kaarage, staff and environs pleasant, but none of that would draw any of us back in, especially with the range of eats in the area.
Krystal
I ordered the spicy chashu ramen, it was very flavoursome and the noodles were tasty, and I loved the egg in the soup too. The service was very friendly and the wait for the food was not long at all, would definetly go again and would recommend to anyone looking for a wholesome ramen experience in Adelaide
Craig Kegler
The chefs recommendation was a soy sauce & pork soup that was mildly spicy with ramen noodles, which were cooked perfectly. Every ingredient from the salted seaweed to the soy egg made this the best ramen I've eaten in Adelaide.<br/><br/>Coupled with the spicy karrage and the house tea. Made one of the best tasting meals I've had<br/><br/>Atmosphere was pleasant with low lighting that made the food look good. Staff were friendly and service was fast.<br/><br/>Good night out to dinner.<br/><br/>

This is by far the best Ramen noodle restaurant Iv ever been to nice staff beautiful set up and the food is so damn delicious for the first time I have actually had the noodles and finished the bowl [soup] 10/10 would go again!
N
Good food for the cold weather ! The noodle soup is really rich and slightly salty but it tastes good altogether with the noodle and the meat. The Tempura vegetables are delicious as always and because it was so cold outside when we first came in, me and my friend both ordered warm tea and they are refillable. The staff would come by often but not in an uncomfortable way to check if our tea needed to be refilled which was really nice of them. Honestly I prefer coming here during the winter rather than summer but in general, this place is really cute!

Was visiting Adelaide over a long weekend and decided to stopped by here. I ordered the pork soup ramen,no.26. It was a good serving size and was pretty average.

Well, there's always been a lot of people in this ramen place so we<br/>Have decided to visit this place. We tried one of the recommended ramen which was the spicy BBQ pork ramen and it tasted horrible. Lots of salt and it tasted just like chicken. To be honest it was pretty disgusting and I legit lost my appetite. Though the bento box was alright but it was too expensive for its contents. We maybe ordered the wrong food because this place is always busy but honestly our first visit was a fail. Disgusting and cheap!
Yaya
The best ramen in Adelaide. I think I hit this place up once a week. The noodles are made fresh upstairs, they are soooo perfect. Amazing range of ramen, you have to try the spicy pork at least once in your lifetime, but be warned it is spicccyyyyy!

My favourite restaurant of all time. Ramen #34 is the best, the unusual sour soup with prawn balls, together with karaage always make me so full. Try chicken stock ramens if you think pork stock is too salty. I've tried many dishes and redeemed many loyalty cards. Beefdon is another recommendation. Next time I will try cold dipping noodles.
Renren
We ordered spicy karaage chicken, spicy pork ramen and chicken broth ramen. I made the spicy ramen extra spicy and ordered both to be only half salty as I already read many reviews of how salty the broth was. The food came out all at once and the karaage was nice a little spicy but still not over the top. However my spicy ramen wasnt spicy at all maybe just a hint which was a little disappointing. It was also still quite salty and very oily and by the end of the meal I had to leave some behind as I was starting to feel a bit sick from all the oil. Chicken broth on the otherhand was not as oily although it was still salty. The place has a nice atmosphere its a shame the food isnt quite up to the level of its ambience. I didnt bother getting a loyalty card as I felt I wouldnt come to this place again

Ryo's noodle is the last destination for our culinary trip. I had spicy tonkatsu ramen and my partner had chicken soup ramen with soy sauce. Overall both ramen was average. Wasn't we expected but not too bad. The miso base was different to other restaurant, taste like maize in it. I think I stick up to other specialty ramen that I used to go.

Good Ramen in Adelaide<br/><br/>Good food, courteous staff, air conditioned, in the heart of Gouger. It's the no nonsense Ramen place to go to in Adelaide.
Cuong Pham
Unfortunately the ramen broth was very salty and very oily. Wish we were pointed to the sign that the salt content could've been altered before we ordered
_foodiej
Walked in and the place had a nice ambience to it, and the modern decor made everything a touch more lively - however, the food wasn't the same. The takoyaki was lacking something, gyoza was alright, and the mains were pretty mediocre. My ramen was incredibly salty, way too thick and just really bad. Not sure why their specialty is the ramen when they obviously have no clue how to do a good ramen?<br/><br/>The menu is also overpriced, and is the last thing you would choose if you wanted to dine somewhere for Japanese food.
Lou
Great place to dine in, especially on cold weather days! They're known to have salty broths however you can ask for your soup to be less salty. Most of the time it's not too bad anyway. It's my go to place for ramen and the staff there are very friendly.
Feed Me, Adelaide
After the recent indulgence in all things pho (see my compiled list of the best in the Adelaide CBD here) it was probably time to check out a different type of Asian soup – and ramen looked like it fitted the bill nicely. Doing some quick research, it seemed that Ryo’s noodles was the place to be checking out, so it didn’t take much convincing for us to go and do just that.
Billy Raditya
Having a hankering for some soupy noodles, I decided to visit Ryo's noodles again. This time I was by myself so I would be able to indulge a little (extra noodles). <br/><br/>I arrived there and the place wasn't too busy. I was seated, attended to, and drinks arrived within 5 minutes. Another 5-10 mins later food arrived. Very efficient. <br/><br/>A little disappointed the soup wasn't really salty as I thought it would be but also glad as it may have been overpowering. The taste was still delicious. Lucky I ordered the extra noodles as the amount of noodles given was quite minimal. <br/><br/>All in all a good and tasty experience.

Probably the one of the really good japanese ramen place around in Adelaide, there's only 2 that I know off, this one & another...their spicy ramen are like super spicy..lol. Love the ramen here. Their takoyaki & karaage are also good.
Qrstwave
Just giving 3 because the ramen that I had when I went there with my friend was too oily. It is pork broth but still, there was literally too much oil in it. I couldnt finish even the noodles. I would have enjoyed it otherwise. I like the karaage chicken though. Ill be trying some of their ramens soon.
Frances Peters
Yummy! I got the soy sauce pork ramen, and my boyfriend got the spicy ramen (which other reviews had said was super spicy - we found it to be just right). Had a side serve of takoyaki which was also delicious (be careful because they're really hot). Will have to come back and to try some different ramen flavours. Fair price, and quick service :)

We were on the hunt for dinner our first night in Adelaide – the beginning of our adventure to witness the union of two beautiful friends. It thankfully was looking far better than our last visit when we arrived in Adelaide airport at 3am due to having our Perth bound flight diverted. We had already checked into our hotel and wandered towards Chinatown, sure we’d find something to fill our tummies.

Best Ramen in town - to die for. Satisfying slurp that fills you up to your brim! I crave this daily! Personal favourite #26. Service is always fast, friendly & helpful no matter how busy they are. Winner!

Ryo's noodles rarely disappoints when it comes to eating delicious Japanese food. Their staff greet you as soon as you set foot in the door and their hearty bowl of ramen certainly hits the spot when you're trying defrost yourself during Winter. A favourite of mine is the spicy karagee chicken bento box - ever since I had one, I've been on a quest to find more places that offered this on the menu but to no avail. Hands down, they make the best spicy karagee chicken. Unfortunately some points had to be taken off for a couple of reasons. I feel that their meals aren't designed to satisfy your appetite (portion sizes are dropping upon every visit) and we were (again) going to be seated between two other tables where we would be millimetres away from each other (quite intrusive if you don't like having your conversations heard by others and worrying about elbowing a diner in the process of eating). Thankfully they let us sit at a table near the wall without protest and allowed us to confortably dine there.
John Smith
Horrible customer service. I can understand slightly off customer service when you're busy but this place was not busy when I went for lunch.<br/>Sat down and had a quick glance at the menu as I already knew what I wanted to order having been here a few times already.<br/>Made eye contact with a few of the workers but they would not come over to take my order. At all restaurants I have been to, there is always someone that will come over after giving you about 5 minutes to look at the menu and ask if you are ready to order. It is basic customer service. <br/>The workers at Ryo's actually served people who came in after me even though I had been waiting longer. I even had a worker who looked at me choose to clean up a table over taking an order. The common sense thing would be to take someones order first before cleaning up. At the time there were a lot of free tables and no one was even waiting to be seated so that decision was baffling.<br/><br/>Ramen here is pretty average too and insanely overpriced, they are lucky that there aren't any decent Ramen joints in Adelaide. Mind you I have been spoilt by awesome ramen in Japan which has excellent customer service to match.<br/><br/>Needless to say I walked out and since I didn't have much time (already wasted most of my lunch break waiting) went to BBQ City and what do you know, as soon as I put down the menu someone came and took my order. Take note Ryo's.
Adventures In Winterland
My first stop after picking my bags from the luggage carousel in Adelaide was Ryo’s Noodles. Yep, not even kidding. Last time, Mum gave me massive order envy with her miso ramen, so that’s what we both picked this time. Ryo’s is unusual for a ramen restaurant in that you can request your serve to be salt reduced, which we both did. The star of this ramen is the broth – the miso flavour just adds a lovely richness to the already complex broth, which only tastes better the more you eat. I found myself wishing for a second stomach in order to have more! The pork is

Really don't understand the hype of this place. It's very very very bad.. The waitress who was working was lovely but that was about it. Spent $40 on 2 soups and an entree Absolute rip off. Food was overly salty even though we said less salt.
C.Bale
A delicious ramen place in the center of the city that's kept me going back. A variety of ramen in either pork or chicken broth. Had the spicy pork broth ramen and a side of karaage. The broth is still good, however there seems to be a slight change, it would be great if they can keep up with when they just opened. Nevertheless, still a good place to visit in a ramen crisis

I felt like a bowl of noodles before a bit of a cruise around the Adelaide Central Markets so gave Ryo's Noodles a go. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and seated at the communal table with a number. My order was taken promptly and a respectable time later my gyozas appeared. Tasty! Perfect timing - as soon as my last gyoza had disappeared my ramen was presented. Excellent broth, melt in your mouth pork, springy noodles. A tasty bowl.
ChickenFeet
Pretty good noodle place, better than your average ramen
JayTea & The Co-Pilot
Another Friday night brings us to Chinatown. The Co-Pilot is usually indifferent towards where we eat and leaves the decision up to me, but this time round he had a hankering for karaage chicken, this in turn made me feel like ramen. With the target ramen and karaage there was no better place to satisfy these cravings than Ryo’s Noodles. <br/><br/>I have read a few mixed reviews about the broth suggesting it to be on the salty side however I’ve never thought this was the case and this visit was no different, but then again I think I have a high salt tolerance so it’s personal taste. If you are cautious and prefer things less salty there are signs up indicating they are happy to accomodate reduced salt so don’t let that throw you off.

Adelaide was lacking decent ramen joint. Until Ryo's Noodles landed on Gouger Street. Ryo's Noodles in Adelaide is a branch; from Sydney. A friend of mine in Sydney (who worked in Adelaide before moving on) was telling me about this place in Sydney, and I was looking forward to tasting the noodles. You could probably tell from the fact that I have this many pictures of ramen that I frequent this joint. Very often. I've already scored two free bowls of noodles from their loyalty card; one bowl will earn you a stamp on it; you need 9 bowls to get a freebie. Earlier on I found the soup was a little too salty. This was reflected on the low ratings on restaurant review web sites. They have since adjusted the saltiness of the soup, and it is much better now. If you are hungry, make sure to ask for extra noodles when you order your bowl; it does take some time if you order it after you get your bowl.
Snapfood
I've been here couple of times and I really like their ramen. But so far I've only ordered their recommended ramen most of the time and have not tried their rice dishes so I can't really speak how their food is like overall. <br/>One time I ordered a spicy ramen and boy it was really spicy! I could not eat it at all. Luckily the staff was very nice and she asked the chef to add more broth to make it less spicy.<br/>Most of the time I went there the place wasn't very busy until one time on Moon Lantern day, the restaurant was full. I was disappointed that they only limited the tables to downstairs. I don't know what's the business upstair but that area never seem to open for customer seatings.
Piffthemagicdragon
Hokkaido thick miso ramen with pork and butter is an amazing meal in winter. Takoyaki was nice. Unfortunately this venue wasn't licensed (yet).
Michelle
Probably the best that Adelaide has in terms of ramen but still not as good as the other ramen shops that are available in Melbourne or Sydney. The soup was still salty despite asking them to cut down on the salt.
Thefoodstroll
Remember that orange ramen joint which always had a line as we trudged to collect our pad thai’s, pad see ew’s or cashew nut with crispy chicken and rice from Thai Emerald? The one rated as one of Sydney’s best ramen places? The place which apparently holds its ground in the Japanese-cuisine-frenzy city of Hong Kong? How can you deny Ryo’s Noodles when you’ve been to North Sydney Boys for all your high school life and you see it smack bang in the middle of Chinatown in Adelaide?
Pickyhunter
After reading some promising reviews, it s just way toooo salty. One of those nicely decorated franchises places that simply miss the mark. Good concept but it fails to deliver on the taste front. Won't be hurrying back.

Growing up in our house, ramen noodles were my family’s Asian-American version of chicken noodle soup. So when we were invited to Ryo’s Eat ‘n’ Tweet, all expenses paid, I was excited for an authentic taste of the warming and familiar Japanese ramen right here in Adelaide.
Solarbed
Way too salty. I like salt, but this was just too much for my liking. They did offer to add water to my bowl which was great. Not many noodles either. Overall 6/10 for dishes, 8/10 service. I will go back again next time i'm in town for another try.
Louise Rhodes
Tucked away on Gouger Street, behind a neon red noodle bowl sign, is the Adelaide outpost of Sydney’s Crows Nest favourite, Ryo’s Noodles. There are no signs with the store name, so look for the red curtains, which in Japan, accompanied by a red lamp, indicate and izakaya – bar with beer food. But here – they screen a bigger secret. Push through the curtains and you will find Adelaide’s first and only vegetarian ramen! Inside it is compact and mood lit, much like real Japanese izakayas. We are welcomed with the traditional greeting, a shout of “irrashyimasse!”.

Ambivalent. So I've been here a few times, but I've yet to witness this terrible service that previous reviewers have mentioned. The ramen here is generous and inoffensive. I'm not a ramen expert so I can't vouch for how authentic it is, but I've yet to have a ramen that had me hankering to revisit the dish. I will say however, that I prefered Ryo's to to Ajisen's. The ramen in both is roughly on par, but Ryo's is a nicer place to hang out. Also, Ryo does a vegan ramen which is a nice touch.

Bad service ,unfriendly staff, worst ramen restaurant ever
Log34ale
Badly disappointed. The noodle is obviously not for Ramen and overcooked. I tried no2(Ton Kotsu) ramen and the soup was just salty and disgusting porky smell. Because I love Osaka, I tried Takoyaki as well, and I couldn't finish the dish. It was too oily, and it was easy to imagine that these were frozen in fridge. No souse for Takoyaki but too much Mayo. The most disappointed thing was chefs were Chinese people. One man just came into the restaurant and went straight into the kitchen. He and chefs got started talking in loud voice and my brain said that is not Japanese(I learned Japanese&Chinese language a bit). Well, it's alright, if that was a Chinese restaurant! (Because Chinese foods are also my fav) However, I went to eat JAPANESE ramen and I expected awesome Japanese taste. The reality was faked Japanese - Chinese ramen. I bet these chefs really have never taste real Japanese ramen and Takoyaki. <br/>And some waitress did so attractive service, one smily girl welcomed me "Hi! Hello how are you?", "Cheers!"and she tried to talk to me due to longer wait time. But one girl who took order and were casher, were badly unfriendly. I prefer Robot than her. And it is not a problem that they cannot speak English, but I think they must try to communicate with customers in English. We don't ask staffs perfect English. I think they need educate their staff what is hospitality. I loved the girl who told me with great hospitality but others.

Unacceptably salty and greasy + ridiculous customer service. We've been there three times.<br/>The first time the customer service was nice and friendly, but the noodles (no. 3 & no. 6) were extremely salty and greasy. It's a bit revolting and hard to swallow. As they were still on trial we decided to give them a second chance.<br/><br/>The second time we arrived 5 mins b4 their open time. We didn't want to disturb their preparation so we waited outside in 40 degrees temperature. We waited for 4 mins and knocked the door. A waitress came out saying "we're not open yet" and closed the door on our faces.<br/><br/>The third time we went there the food were still salty and greasy. 15 mins after we started eating, a waitress came here and asked "excuse me, are you leaving or not?" I mean, seriously...

OTCB was kindly invited to R yo's Noodles. All items were provided free of charge on behalf of Ryo's Noodles. I (Amanda) had dined at Ryo's when it first opened , so I was looking forward to retu rning on this occasion to try some more tasty dishes.

Adelaide has long been lagging behind in the ramen scene so when Ryo's Noodles  opened up last year on the popular dining street known as Gouger, it was much welcomed.  Ryo's Noodles  has chosen to open up in Adelaide following outlets in Hong Kong, Jakarta and Sydney.  Last week we were invited to dine there along with other food bloggers as an introduction to their menu. That night was held in conjunction with Adelaide Dining Magazine introducing their first proud issue as the restaurant bible of Adelaide. I grew up eating a lot of noodles in all shapes and forms, not so much ramen (and 2 minute noodles are not really true ramen noodles), but many different types of noodles. To Mr. Foodie, noodles are one dish, they're all the same. To my fuming Asian self and feeling the need to represent the entire world's noodle industry, I could not even begin to comprehend the words that came out of his mouth. The way you make it, the type of flour you use, the style of cooking it, the type of broth, condiments, toppings, combination of sauces and so much more end up as different dishes. Often you will find different countries or even districts have a different style of noodle dishes. Tonight, we talk about one of the most famous in the world - Japanese Ramen. The entrance is a striking black and red industrial look which continues inside with strikingly coloured high chairs, exposed brick and lightbulbs. There is an upper floor but it's not for patrons, apparently that's where the noodles are made. Yes, all noodles are made fresh in house like a good ramen shop should.  Oh look, my restaurant bible When we arrived, our table was set with a copy of Adelaide Dining Magazine  for each person. With over 6000 copies spread across hotel rooms targeting tourists and locals alike, I first found one in Crowne Plaza Adelaide. It's quite a comprehensive guide published annually, do check it out. You'll find them in pubs, cafes and other "places with reading stuff" as Ben from Adelaide

Fairly new, Ryo’s Noodles opened up in late 2014. Although Adelaide is home to a number of Japanese establishments, Ryo’s is one of the few that specialise in mainly noodles and ramen. Walk in through the edgy, metal-clad entrance and you’re welcomed by the rustic yet contemporary interior of the cozy restaurant: exposed brick, distressed wooden tables and warm lighting. Similar to what I would imagine a small, laneway restaurant might look in Tokyo. Before we got down to the soupy mains, we sampled a few of their side dishes as our entrées. Takoyaki; $7.00 The first was a dish of six little deep fried octopus balls, or Takoyaki: baby octopus, tempura scraps, and Japanese pickled ginger all rolled up into a wheat flour batter and deep fried to a bite-sized perfection. Looking back on the evening, this was my favourite. After the initial crunch came the warm soft filling and the chewy bite of octopus. Lastly, the sprinkle of dried green onion and drizzled soy sauce over the top added just the right amount of saltiness to the mildness of the filling. Karaage; $8.00 Up next was the karaage, or Japanese deep-fried chicken. I was less impressed with this dish as I’ve had very flavoursome karaage before and was hoping for the same this time around. However, this fried chicken was just salty minus flavour. The dollop of mayo on the side didn’t help much. Ramen in spicy chicken soup with roast pork, egg, bamboo shoots and naruto; $14.50 And then came the main event: our noodles! I ordered the ramen in spicy chicken soup. I was craving something spicy that evening and this particular ramen certainly delivered with a kick at the end of each spoonful. Also accompanying the soup and noodles was a sheet of nor

April 12, 2015 April 12, 2015 - Alex Prichard Email this page a rather massive bowl of spicy noodles Disclaimer: I was a guest at a blogger dinner at Ryo’s Noodles A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a dinner at Ryo’s Noodles on Gouger Street. Being a die-hard carb junkie I had no choice but to attend. However, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ve been to Japan but once. And that ‘once’ was a lay-over at Narita Airport. I was really lucky in that I was travelling with a friend with a strong command of Japanese and we spent an excellent night out in Narita eating eel and drinking beer. But that is where my experience of Japanese food as cooked in Japan starts and ends. I love soba noodles (on that journey I flew JAL and cold soba noodles were offered at every meal – I was in heaven), I’m less keen on udon and ramen tread a happy middle ground. Now we have my non-existent Japanese food critiquing credentials out of the way … Ryo’s is a small restaurant on Gouger Street and while you might miss it if you were on the look out for it, you’ll find it easily enough. It is set up with both normal tables and tall benches, which run down the centre. It’s quite smart inside, although it is very snug and I imagine that if there are large groups in (such as we were!) they end up rather dominating the vibe. But you don’t head here for a romantic date night or intimacy … this is much more somewhere where you grab a big hearty bowl of noodles on your way from A to B. Judging by the enormous bowls of noodles that were heading out of the kitchen, I decided I didn’t need an entrée. As a bonus, plenty of other people thought they did and so I was able to try the takoyaki (battered balls of octopus which I found a little bland) and the kara-age

I think Ajisen is better, and cheaper. Went last night.<br/><br/>It was OK, but for $15 you want something better than Ajisen (which is more like $10-12).<br/><br/>I thought it was a little worse than Ajisen.<br/><br/>Great setup tho - nice looking restaurant. Food has to be a bit better,<br/><br/>There were signs saying "tell us if it is too salty and we can adjust" - so it sounds like they're listening to comments on here.

The noodles are very simple and nice, but nothing amazing. There is nice Matcha green tea and they bring you refills. The lunch menu doesn't give you a lot to choose from - almost everything has pork in it, so don't go here if you don't like pork. Most noodle soups are around $15. Staff is very friendly. If that's your thing, give it a go. :)

Bugger all for what it's worth. Well, it's not all bad.. service was ok but when they go 'you done?' Sounds a bit abrupt and lacks common courtesy.<br/>Food wise, well, ordered some chicken karaage, came out ok and tastes pretty good (nowhere near the best though), but the temperature was inconsistent. One piece was cold, next piece piping hot, next is warm, of most concern was the cold piece, hoping I don't catch salmonella from that!<br/>And to the main game of ramen, beautiful soup base and noodles, but that's where it ended. Two small pieces of pork in a soup base and some ramen for $16 was probably the most overpriced meal going around. I mean, if it was at a 3 hat restaurant and I pay $50 for an entree at least that would be worth it but $16 for two pork pieces and a lack of service.. well, sorry to say but won't be back in a hurry!

Best outside Japan. Ever since taking a food excursion to Japan last year I've been searching for a ramen place that even remotely resembles a typical authentic Japanese ramen. Ryo's definitely gives some of the better places we went a run for their money. At the time of this review, the rating is 57%. What is wrong with you people?! "it's too salty" "it's too rich". Honestly, these are the comments you'd expect from the local RSL. <br/>Ryo's do a true flavoursome thick rich porky tonkotsu. The only place I've been outside of Japan who can. I think the complaints are from people who don't realise what tonkotsu is. Get some culture. Eat the spicy tonkotsu. Can't recommend enough. Cold dipping noodles with a soy broth are also great for a less heavy option.

Beautiful pork soup ramen noodles. Well priced, filing and economically priced. Will have to come back next time I'm in Adelaide.

Authentic??. Not sure why people had been saying this place serves authentic ramen. I ordered the basic ramen with pork broth to compare with what i had in Japan, Cairns & Brisbane. The broth was somehow thickened with diluted taste. Noodle was overcooked too.

Great experience. Absolutely loved my dining experience here at Ryo's. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by several waitresses and the restaurant even had cute decor. Ordered one of the chicken Ramen and it was absolutely delicious and full of flavour. I suggest asking for either more soup or less salt when ordering if you're not a fan of salty broth but other than it was great. On top of that, it's perfect for small lunch or dinner gatherings as the food is affordable and there are several large tables to spread yourselves out. Great atmosphere and service, looking forward to coming back soon!

Great!. Excellent Japanese ramen! The broth is fantastic with very real flavors. it may be a tad too salty for some but they do recognize this and give you the option of telling them to reduce salt for your meal. Staff are attentive which is good too
Ann
Decor. The decor was nice and food was fast. But soup was very salty.

Taste like Japan. The ramen that taste like Japan!! I hvnt able to eat something so close to what I had in Jpn since I left HK!! If people want to complain about it please travel to Japan once and taste a real one. Will go back to the store again

I really enjoyed It. I really enjoyed the ramen at Ryos. I asked for less salt after reading the reviews and it was perfect for me. I will definitely be back. Great atmosphere and good service

Average ramen. Eggs were far from perfect. Better buck up.

The Best Ramen I've had since Japan. All the non-believers are non-cultured hacks. I had the Spicy Pork Soup Ramen, Gyoza and Fried Chicken and they were all absolutely AMAZINGLY TASTY!!!! Great service, traditional Japanese welcome and Japanese feel of the restuarant. To the non-believers: If it's too salty for your Western taste buds, you're welcomed to add more soup at no extra cost, so stop complaining.

Ryo's.... Admittedly I didn't order noodles, but wasn't super impressed by the food. I could get the same thing for cheaper in a more authentically China Town cafe/restaurant down the street. Nothing to run back to anytime soon.
Vivian Zhu
Toooo salty! Even I talk to the waitress and she bring it back and add some soup for me...
Foodiegal
Average. There's nothing memorable about Ryo's ... I had ramen #2, takoyaki and chicken karage, and I just remember my ramen being very salty (even after I'd asked for the "less salty" option). The ramen itself was surprisingly well made and similar to the ramen texture I've had in Japan. Will return in a couple of month's to give it another go.

The ambience was great and the serving sizes were reasonable. A bit overpriced and the noodle stocks were extremely salty!
Kamyuenw2000
Disappointing !. I had item number 1 from the menu. I find that the noodles used in the ramen I ordered was the same egg noodles used in Chinese wanton noodles. Noodles was very thin and overcooked (too soft) i.e. lacking the springiness / al dente texture of a true ramen. Definitely not ramen noodles. The pork soup base that came with it was lacking in taste and starchy. These elements shouldn't be present in a real ramen. The ramen is also overpriced...$13 bucks with only a few slices of thin pork, some spring onions and sesame seeds. And this is the cheapest ramen in their menu.
Asian_taste
Would not visit again!. The ramen is overpriced and the broth is too starchy. We arrived 5 minutes earlier than their opening time and the waitress was unfriendly - chasing us out from the shop, saying that they're closed (Why do you leave your main door open then?!!!! and what's wrong with letting your customers in 5 mins earlier?!)
Dannyaburas
Good. A little bit expensive but honestly, I haven't had ramen better than this in Adelaide. The noodles were fresh, pork was tender and the broth tasted good. Some say it's too salty but personally I thought it was fine.

Finally a decent Ramen place in Adelaide!. Coming from Sydney where we have a wealth of good Ramen places i sorely missed the flavour in Adelaide...Ajisen Ramen just doesnt cut it...Was so happy when i found out that Ryo's opened up in Adelaide since it is so popular in Crows Nest (Sydney). Lines are out the door on most nights...<br/>Went there tonight and was most impressed..i think it may be better than the one in Crows Nest!<br/>Had my usual Naruto special..Miso Chasu Ramen...was excellent and was even better when being washed down with authentic leaf based green tea..which is much better than the tea bag and powder green tea...They also make their noodles on site...<br/>The owner..Tong also introduced himself and was most friendly...<br/>Will be going again soon!

Seriously???. Do not understand if they have pride and confident to call themself a ramen shop. good luck

Unfortunately the soup was very bland. The restaurant looks nice and modern however service by the waitresses were very poor. Should learn to talk a little more professionally to customers..

Tonkotsu miso ramen. There was something lacking in the broth.. and it was a bit too salty.

Loved it! Will be back!. Service is friendly and excited. Food is fast! and good! Little pricey- but reasonable for great quality. People are streaming in the doors here for a reason! Congratulations on a great resturaunt!

Not what we expected. We were very excited to learn of this new ramen place in Adelaide which is causing people to line up out of their store to get a seat. Adelaide is sorely lacking good ramen shops. Unfortunately, it still is. We had the miso and spicy ramen for lunch. The tonkotsu based broth was very bland and terribly oily. Could barely taste the pork in the broth. The charshu was almost tasteless. You also had to put up with being packed like sardines in a very small restaurant. Coming from a couple who very much loves ramen and have been to many ramen shops around the country and the world - this is one shop we won't be returning to.

Pleasant. The homemade noodles tasted great!<br/>Very tasty, however I wish they had more meat options e.g. karaage chicken etc... rather than just pork<br/>Not too pricey - each bowl of ramen was about $14<br/>Gyoza were nice and crispy too!<br/>Environment was a little bit on the noisier side

The impression of the service was that some waiters were attentive but some were chatting away, the girl had to be appointed by what seems like the manager to come and take our order. Nevertheless once our orders were placed, the food came pretty quickly. Even though the ramens weren’t bad for it’s price and the fact we are in Adelaide. There were still some disappointing aspect. Initially I thought this place would be more authentic, where they might ask you what ramen texture you would like (hard, soft, etc). Obviously that could be expecting too much from Australia. However the miso in York’s Ton Kotsu miso flavored soup was very light, I could barely taste it. My pork based soy sauce flavored soup was lukewarm, while the noodles were extremely hot. York’s broth temperature was just right. Possibly mine was made later. Overall I think this place would be good for a cheap meal or catch up, but I certainly don’t see people lining up for the ramen here like they would in Japan.

We touched down in Adelaide after a rather turbulent flight, riding off the recesses of a mad storm that had enveloped Sydney a few hours ago. The blue mountains were left under a sheath of snow and the city in shambles from the Gail force winds and hail that rained upon the poor citizens.  Having been through that, I needed some form of comfort. Peacefulness that I hoped to find in a bowl of ramen. After a few clicks on my favourite search engine, we found ourselves on the doorsteps of Ryo's Noodles in Chinatown. Touted to be the second outlet from its mainstay in Crow Nest's Sydney and claiming to sell authentic Tokyo Ramen, I was gradually ascending a wall of great expectations. He ordered the Ramen Noodles in Spicy hot pork soup ; a feisty bowl of scarlet tinged soup greeted us, the levels of soup significantly lower than in our other bowls of Miso pork stock soup ramen as if to discourage the excessive drinking of this oil laden broth. We both notice the absence of pork flavor in this particular stock, the predominance of garlic stricken chili oil assaulting the taste buds. On hindsight, I appreciated the texture of the noodles which as subjective as it may sound, was of my favorite thickness and doneness -The strands still holding a spring in its step. The pork slices were a tad overcooked, dry and stringy, save for the rings of fat along the creases.  My Ramen in Miso Pork Stock Soup fared a lot better, the generous serving of bamboo shoots and spring onions helping to negate the saltiness of the broth. My ravenous appetite saw me through to the bottom of the bowl, but mind you, it is a LARGE serving which would probably be suitable for 2 small diners if you had added a couple more pork slices in there. The arrival of Ryo's Noodles in Adelaide has caused quite a stir, clearly dividing the masses into two groups, the cult followers and the haters. I choose to sit on the fence with this one . Obviously, my heart still lies with Gumshara. Ryo's Noodles Adelaide

I’ve been to Ryo’s Noodles when it first opened and was impressed by the high quality and authenticity of their Ramen. With a busy blogger lifestyle, it’s often hard to go back to the same place twice, but when I was invited to tonight’s blogger dinner, I just couldn’t resist. I just had have some of their signature Ramen noodles as well as try some of their other dishes.
Adelaidefoodcentral
There are exactly 33 items on the menu, and not surprisingly, a third of the menu is made up of ramen offerings in either a pork or chicken broth. For those that don’t feel like noodles, there’s a selection of rice dishes and sides that will satisfy your hunger.

I ordered the only ramen dish that did not have Pork in it… I just wanted to try something different..so I got the prawn ball ramen in Chicken Broth-with sour soup-Prawn Balls actually tasted really nice..it didn’t feel like a normal store bought ball..but something they probably made or imported specially…

Konnichiwa! Ryo’s noodles is a new ramen store in Chinatown. Lovely decor running through the store that’s split level (apologies for the glare). Attentive and great service provided by the staff. I ordered a pork ramen in pork soup that comes with half an egg – and I requested for less salt as advised from a friend and mentioned on the wall. In the beginning it was very tasty, full of pork flavours and the egg was soft and creamy.

Japanese is one of my favourite cuisines.  I finally had time to try out Ryo's noodles in Chinatown.  I really disliked the red curtains at the door.  It was too long and got in the way as I was entering and also leaving.
I Only Eat Desserts
Their ramen in salt flavoured soup was so diluted that the pork soup had barely any flavour. Pork was overdone and dry but at least the thin ramen noodles were a bit hard and alright tasting.
