Review Himeji - Adelaide

Jayson Olanio
Alot of items on the menu and pages of different drinks. Great atmosphere and great place for a one on one dinner experience. Just don't over order or it can get pricey

Food taste better than it looks. We had a party of 12, with a booking made. Service was really good and atmosphere was nice. Price is not too bad and portion was reasonable for the price. Their sushi rolls were pretty good as well. Worth a try, but due to its location, find it hard to come back.
Jon Limbu
Great place to eat ramen. The temperature of the ramen was good. The karage was crispy and juicy. The vibe is awesome too.
Chris Ho
The food itself tastes good. The establishment is furnished pretty well and sets a very relaxed vibe. The ramen was okay, substantial enough to get full - a 7.5/10. The nigiri was interesting in terms of its flavour but was good overall - 8/10.
Kolven Chow
Good foods and fresh sushi. Ramen broth utterly scrumptious. Recommended to book in advance

Best place I have found for Ramen. Always has great food on any level so no matter what you pick you will be pleasantly surprised. Only issues is their opening hours which I wish was longer and the fact that you can't just walk in you need a reservation if you want to get a table.

Really really good food here. And they have more than the standard sushi repertoire. They were so busy the night we came we nearly missed out. But there were tables outside which turned out better because indoors was abit smokey from the cooking. The only problem was they forgot about us and we ended up waiting for over an hour before we received the sushi entree! But once they realized they had forgotten about us, the food came reasonably quick (though it could also be that by then the restaurant was empty - that was how late our food arrived!) The table was also very dusty being outside and rarely used and cleaned. Had service been better I would have given this place a better rating because I would throughly recommend the food here

Ordered Tsukemen. Texture of noodles is great. Ingredients are so so. Broth was not thick enough.(In fact it's even thinner than normal ramen.) Will order ramen instead next time.

Went here for dinner and I could say that the inside looked better outside. Some stuff were very welcoming and there were some that looked serious and unbothered.

Food
Overall quite tasty dishes. Entrees nasu dengaku and karaage chicken were actually tasty. Portions were quite small though. Mains were ramen and bento box. Ramens were decent and bento was expensive. Took a while to be served but it was a very busy night so its understandable.

Service and Atmosphere
Will have to try it again, service that night was a bit unusual. Great place however the service could be better.

FEA Rating: 7

Excellent, authentic Japanese food. I went here for a work Christmas dinner and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Huge range of foods, definitely something for everyone! Will be going back ASAP!

Best Japanese food in Adelaide!!! Sashimi platter was absolutely amazing. Very fresh, very affordable price. Amazing Raman broth as well. Definitely will return.

We had a table booked and walked in. No one to greet us and we stood around for about 15 minutes being ignored and only with great effort could we pull over a waiter and get seated. We has to ask for a menu and after 20 minutes of not even being able to make a drink order we walked out. Other people close by complained they waited over an hour after ordering with no food! Very poor service we won’t be coming again. What a joke.
Reynolds Gaw
We came here a few times to try their various dishes on their menu, but we thought that they were mediocre, other than their karaage chicken which was tasty. The service can be hit and miss too.

For the love of food, this is fantastic!

Even I'm drooling making this review thinking of going back there again soon.

The staffs are really accomdating and friendly, ambience is always good and calm.

Food is amazing. I always order these two mains;

1. Mazesoba - dry ramen. It has minced pork and comes with boiled egg and rice! You eat the rice after with the broth remains. Honestly, I think the rice is unnecessary as the ramen size is big and filling but we always lovr extra free stuff 😂
2. Pork belly ramen - always the bomb. Not greasy and pork doesn't smell strong.

Staffs always top up your water and very attentive. Would always enjoy coming to this place.

Have been wanting to go here for ages. Finally did the Friday lunch visit today. Quite busy. Food that we had was great. Too many choices = We will have to return.

Hidden little gem! Food was exceptional - sashimi super fresh (some even fresh from Japan's famous fish market too!), skewers well seasoned, wagyu to die for!! The chef also personally came to explain the sashimi we ordered too which i really appreciated. I will definitely be back!
From the outside, the restaurant may not look much, but head in to give it a shot. You wont be disappointed.
The only negative is that the service staff weren't quick enough to clean up the empty dishes cos we ate too fast!
Linda
While travelling from Melbourne ...
It was good enough Japanese food to justify a visit. The ambience was good, pricing standard, abundance of options and fair portions. Service was average which was a slight let down.
Lana
Really enjoyed this restaurant and the wide range of options offered on the menu! Best Japanese that I've had yet in Adelaide and thank you to the staff for being accomodating to us
Danelle Lim Yun
Really delicious ramen at affordable prices! I had the hakuryu, which was really flavourful. The noodles were a tad too soft for my liking, so I'd definitely get very hard noodles next time. The soup base was a tad too salty, but nevertheless, it was a delicious bowl of noodles.
Kiley Li
Food was delicious, service was great!! Only downside was the waitresses were very busy and forgot to order our drinks, but they were very nice and apologetic.
Jam N Scones
Hands down best ramen in Australia!!! We’ve always loved Gensuke Hakata and thought they were better than Ipudo Sydney but Himeji is even better!!!! The condiments are fresh and not salty. Noodles are not over cooked and the chasu pork is absolutely devine. The service was so so and the high chairs dont have belts!!!! Not as family friendly but id come back any day to try more of their other dishes. Note the broth is a bit on the thick side and fatty but hey it still tastes so good.
Nae
Holy moly. That was one of the best meals my partner and I have had in a very long time. The karaage, takoyaki and bao buns were on point, juicy and packed full with flavour! The atmosphere was also perfect for a romantic evening and service was very friendly. Could not fault the experience at all. I look forward to coming back to try the other dishes!

Best Japanese food in Adelaide. Travelled through Japan eating ramen every day and came back to Adelaide looking for a ramen fix. We were disappointed until we came across Himeji! Authentic, tasty, love the modern decor and ambiance of this restaurant.
Asha
Good portion of Ramen noodles ! I tried their spicy tonkatsu Ramen and was pleasantly surprised.. the servings were generous and the soup was delicious. Also tried their gyoza and yakitori were both average. Price is slightly on the expensive side but would go back again for their Ramen

Taking residence at the Victoria Square end of Grote Street is Shozo Ikeda’s venture Himeji Ramen & Izakaya. The renowned sushi chef that brought us Sushi Bar Genki, which we love, decided to expand beyond just sushi. Himeji offers a full menu of traditional Japanese style food. Of course sushi is still on the cards using locally sourced fresh seafood where possible. Given Chef Ikeda’s track record we were really looking forward to being wowed. The decor is indeed an authentic elegant Japanese setting.
GW
The restaurant feels quite stylish and upmarket, but prices are very reasonable. It was very busy when I visited (Tuesday dinner) which added a nice buzz to the restaurant.
Food was a little slow coming out, however the pork gyoza I had to start were delicious. Slightly crispy on the outside and juicy and succulent on the inside.
I ordered a spicy ramen which perhaps could have had a little more heat to it. The broth was more creamy than spicy.
Overall I enjoyed my experience and would like to go back to perhaps try the sushi/sashimi or another ramen.
YForest
Had to wait there for around 50 mins + for food. Terrible service. Will never go there any more.
Have been sitting there and watching the guys came later than us finishing there food.

Lovely modern interior decor, worthy of a birthday/ family dinner or a date. The menu is extensive and has a vast mix of ramen (Japanese noodles), sushi, hot rice meals, and grilled yakitori. The drinks menu is very extensive- they have tea, beer, shoju, sake, spirits, and cocktails. I had the tonkatsu ramen which was not as thick as what I usually eat at my regular ramen place. However the ramen was light and peppery and had a real great home made taste to it. The shogun bento box was enormous and filled with lots of goodies. Great to try as it had a bit of everything. The rice was a little purple in colour (black rice I think) and had edame beans in it. Was delicious!! Overall a nicely presented restaurant with quality food and something for everyone. The staff were friendly and attentive too.
SpiceyRiceCakes
I've dined here twice and the menu here is so extensive it was overwhelming, especially their beverage menu (not complaining). Overall experience was lovely- the staffs were great and the atmosphere was nice.
N
I really like this place! Every dish I have tried here is amazing! Fresh and tasty.

The menu is massive, great for some, a hindrance for others who are indecisive. The price point is midrange - noodles $14 and other mains up to $30. The sushi quality is also very good and fresh. The only problem is that there is only 1 sushi chef which means I have waited a loooookng time on a few occasions when they're busy. Probably best to ask the wait time before ordering sushi/shashimi.
Yoke Mei Neoh
Fantastic tasty ramen, priced very reasonably compared to others. Fresh tasting sashimi, great variety (especially drinks) and authentic decor and interior. Good service. If you crave Japanese, definitely drop by.

One of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide. Whether I go there for lunch (only on Fridays) or dinner, the service is always excellent and the food superb. The best ramen in town hands down, with a good selection to choose from as well as seasonal specials - try their excellent snapper ramen if available. And their bento boxes are huge, with a great selection of items - takoyaki, gyoza, cold noodles, miso soup, karaage, sashimi etc - all served with various choices of fish or meat. Everything is very reasonably priced considering the quality and portion size. The drinks selection is huge, with top-shelf whiskeys, a range of sakes and coctails, Japanese beers and ciders. It's not as formal as some Japanese restaurants, which is exactly why I like it. Really good food served to you prompty and without too much fuss. It's a toss-up between here and Wasai as a favourite Japanese place here in Adelaide.
Jenny Wilkins
I have eaten here so many times and never has it disappointed me. The service can be a little slow on occasion but at all times the food has been delicious and reasonably priced.

The Ramen is full of flavour, the skewers absolutely to die for and the fish just melts in your mouth. I recommend you try the Himeji Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (the flavour is so deep), salmon aburi, agedashi tofu, the gyoza, the vegetable tempura and the following skewers: pork belly with onion skewer, Mentai, Okara Tsukune and Tebasaki.

I will return here again and again.
Crystal Chan
I have tried the today chef's 5. It was delicious!the fish was fresh and fatty. It's so good with the combination of the special sauce, as well as the wagyu tataki. I have tried so many tataki in several restaurants and it was one of my favourite in himeji. The food was good and the service was good too. Waiting staffs were attentive but apparently there was not enough staffs. However the staffs were still attentive and friendly. Must try himeji if u love sushi!
Jia Zhao
It was such an unforgettable dinner time. Sashimi was nice and fresh, the eel and nicely cooked. The ramen were excellent due to the long-time cooked soup base.
Lovemagicyoyo
The best restaurant in Adelaide I have ever try!!! I love this restaurant, I love the food here, the Wagyu and seafood so fresh, you must have a try when you travel in Adelaide!

My group of friends and I waited for almost 2 hours for our food. 1 of our dishes came out only 1 hour later and when we asked the service staff about the status of our food, we were told that the kitchen was still whipping them up. An hour later, we asked the same question and was told by the waiter that the kitchen had lost our orders (how??!!). Told them we wanted our orders canceled and they waived off the dish that was served. So disappointed...
Brett Schutz
Been here a couple times now, and consistently a very tasty meal. Some of the best ramen I've found in town.
Lovely staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Will be back again

I visited Himeji Ramen with a group of my friends. Staff were patient and kind enough to let us to have time to decide. Once we ordered, I thought the wait time was okay, not too long. My main was the Kokuryu (black ramen). It was nice but a little bit too salty for my liking. Plus the flavour got quite sickening after a while. My friends agreed that the food was average. Though I must say that the interior of the restaurant is very nice. I will probably come back another time and try their rice dishes.
R The Eater
Quite disappointed abt the quality of the service and dishes. I m a quite fan of Japanese food, and was thinking very high of himeji ramen, as it got my beloved interior decor style. I brought my girlfriend on valentines day 2017. However, the service is quite poor, probably because of the big amount of people dining in. We waited our entree (himeji Oden) for abt 45 mins.... it is quite tasty though. Then we waited another couple of mins for the eel grilled rice and red dragon ramen. The Gilled rice is good, eel cooked soft and tender. It's a quite descent eel grilled rice, even though it's a little bit sweet for me. Red dragon ramen however gave me the big disappointment, it's too salty and the egg cooked too long. And then came with my stewers, but it turned out the order has completely messed up. I ordered a buta and mentai mayo chicken, but it came totally totally different. TBH I spoke high in front of my colleagues abt the restaurant, but it was really sad to be disappointed.

First time come in on Valentine's Day wanting to get the banquet dinner but they said they're too busy to do it?! We then ordered some tapas and deluxe sashimi platter. Foods are generally good but not exceptional. Deluxe sashimi platter was good value and is recommended. The best was Toro the quality was great but pricy.
Edrick Koh
Fish and rice isn't fresh making the sushi experience pretty bad. The ramen was decent though. Service was slow and the attitude from the waitress was bad.
GinaJ
Haven't had a disappointing visit yet! Now our current go to restaurant when we need to satisfy a ramen craving. The pork based soups are meaty and full of flavour. Their other offerings are great as well - quite an extensive menu (and very extensive sake menu).
Alwayshungry
Fancy interior, average food. Lacks the wow factor. Not quite sure where they were going with the dining whether it was suppose to be more fine dining vs casual as the restaurant staff and food seem to be within quite a casual setting. Food is a little overpriced for what it is and ramen is okay.
Georgia & Sam
Great service, great location, great decor. Great ramen? yeah not so much. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I like Ramen but this was thick, gloopy and tasted like the fat trimmings off a pork roast. In soup form, of course. Table next to us had sashimi, which looked delicious. But we can't all eat like Connor Mcgreggor every night.
Ginger Drinks Cider
Combination of smelling broth(disgusting meaty smell) and a bad customer service. There little side dishes were nice bit mains, oh my gosh, please.
Miriam Wallman
Stand out Nasu Dengaku and Vegetarian Bao. It would be great if there was a vegetarian Agedashi tofu on the menu as well but I hear the vegan ramen bowl is spectacular. Next time! Very attentive service and a lovely place for a workday lunch.
Gil
This is the other good ramen place, it looks fancy, but don't worry just go in and ask for ramen. Love the ramen here also..Kokuryu black ramen is to try if you want something different...Hakuryu ramen is their standard one & very yummy. Their takoyaki is good..but their karaage is awesome..imo better than Ryo's. If I was ever a sad panda, I would buy alot of these and munch away. :P They also have other more fancy dish if you wish. I just go their ramens. :)

I went here with a friend and we ordered ramen, peppered edamame, gyoza and sake and everything was great! The ramen was especially good and I will be returning for sure

I have come back many a time for their ramen and introduced others. I've tried their original, their black sesame and their spicy ramen. You can't fault the quality of the noodles and the intensity and depth of the broth. The proteins are always tender. One day I will try something from their extensive menu (which all look delicious).
Lil' Foodie
Been here twice already!! Had the sashimi deluxe set, wagyu beef tataki, Takoyaki, steamed pork burger, black cod miso and the black garlic ramen.. The ramen wasn't the best I've had so I'll give it a skip next time, but the rest of the dishes I had were fantastic! I would definitely be calling up to reserve those wagyu beef because it's always not available when I want to order it. :( Otherwise, great experience and good food! Will definitely be back.. :)

We had a booking but when we arrived, our table was not ready. We had to ask to place our order after 30 minutes of sitting. We had to ask where our food was an hour after ordering and then they brought out the mains before entrees. They never came to see if we wanted anything else until they wanted to inform us they were closing. We paid by cash all together and had to wait 15-20 minutes to pay while they sorted out "separate" bills. The food was tasty but the service was crap. Won't be going there again.
FesteringCorpse
What a great place. Love the atmosphere. Extensive sake/shoju range. Best ramen in Adelaide. I recommend the 8 hour broth one, the broth is so delicious you cant stop eating, delicious sushi and sashimi. Well worth a visit.
Naomi
My new favourite place for Japanese cuisine. Both the food and service were excellent. Love the decor and original art work. I felt transported back to Japan.
After shared entree plates with friends we all had ramen. I had the Hot Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, sensational!!
Minions
We went there for a celebration, however the manager's attitude was so impolite. That definitely ruin our whole night. The food was absolutely below average, everything was too saulty as well, and also overpriced. The raw salmon fish not fresh and smell bit weird. And another thing is we wait at least 45 mins to wait our order all come out, that's took so long time. Waste our time. Won't back again anymore! I think that they're not authentic Japanese cuisine.

Went for lunch yesterday, nice decor and good ambiance. Ordered the sushi boat that was written on the menu is on special but was billed the normal price when pay. Asked the waitress and she said is no longer on special, laugh and walked away. If it is not on special when are you written on the menu? It is deceiving and very dishonest act to lure customers into ordering. It is definitely not worth the value, sushi boat was said to cater for 2-3 people, but there was only 1 scallop, 2 oysters, 1 prawn sushi and mixture of other sushi. How does 1 or 2 of each split among 3 people? It was lucky there are two of us which is just enough. It was a good afternoon catching up with an old friend but ruin by the dining experience at Himeji.
Adventures In Winterland
I was super pumped for ramen at Himeji, but when Mum and I saw the Funamori (sushi and sashimi boat, $62) on the menu, we couldn’t resist. Dad ordered the Oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and a couple of bao to try. We sampled it while waiting for our boat – the oyakodon was beautiful, with lovely, tasty rice, perfectly tender chicken and sweet onion. Then our boat arrived! Oh my! So full of sushi and sashimi and beautiful seafood! We didn’t know where to start! All of the fish was fresh and flavoursome, and the sashimi cuts were all excellent, except for a couple of slightly too-thick and chewy lower-grade tuna pieces. The natural oysters were lovely, and the aburi salmon rolls were a highlight with perfectly seared outers. My favourite was actually the

We came here after been recommended by a staff at genki bar on gouger st, so this is their sister company. We came here at night time, the place was busy but lucky we got a table for two. The decoration is simple nothing special. And we start to have a look the menu and decide to order. First we had Gyoza, it was really nice and taste different to other jap restaurant. Salmon sashimi was fresh. We had Grilled salmon, it cooked perfectly they successfully bring out the rich of salmon, the texture, tenderness and flavour was perfect. Grilled soft shell crab wasn't my cupp of tea I prefer a chinese one. Grilled pork belly was so yum, it served with original sweet sauce, such a contrasting taste I love it. Grilled chicken wing also came good and served with the original sweet sauce too. And last we had a sekiryu spicy ramen, to me the taste wasn't got and spicy enough but still okay. The broth thick and flavourful, served with boiled egg and yummy minced pork. I very recommend this place and would be our regular japanese restaurant.
NowayJose
ordered 2 entrees, tasting sake set, himeji ramen and spicy ramen... took some photos and decided not to post it... just go and try their ramen...

good dining ambience...attentive service...happy tummy

2nd time dining here last night and the service was disgusting. First of all the food took 30 minutes to be served, and only 2 of the 3 same ramens that we ordered arrived. The 3rd bowl only came out another 15 minutes later after asking and chasing up a couple of times. What was so special about that 3rd bowl of noodles? Here is the let down: No communication. They should have told us to expect a wait. Secondly, one of the waiters was apparently irritated with us for asking about the 3rd bowl of noodles numerous times. And the manager at the front also seemed stressed and irritated that the waiter who took our order had split the bill voluntarily. And here is the cherry to top it all off: it was a Sunday and there was a 10% SURCHARGE for that shitty service and slow food. It is these type of front of house staff that will eventually bring down this business. If you can't take the heat, go into the kitchen and have a cry then come back out and smile to your paying customers. If you can't handle customer service then get out and work in a non-human facing role. Suffice to say we will NEVER be back.
P
good ambiance, good food with a good drinks selection

the place let's itself down, about half the staff are useless
Jessica Hugo
The restaurant is lovely. The food and services are quite pleasure. However, there's a waitress put a table cloth in her pocket and it disgust me. Personally don't think that's hygiene.
Kate Ivy O'Donnell
Tasty, good quality ramen at a good price! Not the style of ramen that I am used to eating but still really delicious. Beautiful venue as well.
Amcleod1984
One of the best looking Japanese restaurants in the CBD. We had the ramen and Skewer set. Both tasted great and this place has now become our go to place for Ramen in Adelaide. But pricey but it's worth it.
Jennifer Beacham
Very good ramen, but let down a bit by the mix-up with orders, where bits were left out of the dish, but the chef did apologize and bring a peace offering
Emma Bloy
Be warned! Absolute worst service I have ever had ANYWHERE- a review from an experienced waitress and foodie

Himeji Ramen & Izakaya sounds like a lovely authentic restaurant and certainly pulls off that facade, however there are serious issues the management team need to address in order to stay in bussiness. If you want to go to Himeji- particularly as a large group- read this first and save yourself!

As a special celebration the foodie in our group of 20 or so chose Himeji Restaurant as the venue. We had reserved a table for 20 people well in advance and had not been told any of the following things we found out upon arriving.

On a nit-picky note, the heavy front door was closed and only one side could be opened, which was not a welcoming first impression. Immediately the restaurant looked high class and expensive- terrible for budget budgies, but wonderful for a nice night out! Very impressive asthetics. But unfortunately the same amount of effort was not put into the service, which is where this restaurant made it's FATAL DOWNFALL.

There were not enough tables and chairs to seat all of us and we were split up across the room, which was certainly not what we had hoped for and were not informed about. I didn't bother looking at the other izakaya share style buffet dishes out of concern for my wallet and making a decision between 20 people.

After almost all the table ordered ramen, the waitress sorrily came back shortly afterwards and told us because it was so busy they couldn't cater to so many individual dishes and we MUST order izakaya style. You as the customer have the right to request anything on the menu, particularly as the staff should be rostered on to deal with large amounts of guests.

After refusing to buy izakaya, the manager told us we could order ramen but not at the same time. I walked out of the restaurant down the road to Dumpling King for a full belly half price and ONE HOUR'S order to table difference!

Himeji is a reasonably priced Japanese restaurant that kind of does it all. They're from the same guys as Genki. The restaurant itself looks and feels a bit fancy because it's in the building that was once a fine dining restaurant (Auge), but it is definitely a casual/relaxed restaurant and you will be able to tell that from the menu and service.

They do a large range of Japanese dishes ranging from ramen, sushi, yakitori, pork buns, rice bowls, Japanese curry and tempura. They do most things reasonably well but I wouldn't say to an amazing level. I do enjoy their ramen and the yakitori when grilled right with a slight charcoal taste is actually pretty good, but it can be hit and miss. The one dish which is surprising is the Mayura station steak that's served on a grill. Although on the pricier side, was really delicious and I would come back to have this dish.

Overall, the food is decent and reasonably priced and given the range of dishes I think it caters to a larger crowd.

Auge, the Italian restaurant has gone and now it has been replaced with a new Japanese restaurant called Himeji Ramen & Izakaya. Not so new anymore as all the hype has gone. As the name suggests it is famous for its ramen, therefore I was pretty excited. It is opened by the same owner as Genki Japanese Restaurant so we expected something amazing.
Coffee Beans
Nice cosy atmosphere. The main chefs are very friendly and nice, yet the drinks waiter was lacking service. Food was good with nice presentation. Ramen was slightly too salty but still very enjoyable. Overall I had a pleasant evening.
Georgina Carbone
Beautiful decor. Great atmosphere. Lovely service. Yummy food!! so much to choose from.. only wish the burger buns were bigger.
Will definitely recommend!
Laura
Really slow service but excellent food and friendly staff. The big menu includes a vegan ramen which was full of flavour. I love the selection of sauces on each table - the chilli had a good kick.
Hash Brown
Won't go back again, food was below average and overpriced for the portions of food. Cutting a birthday cake was not allowed in a private room , extremely disappointed and ruin all people's feelings at that night.
Juan-Mauricio
I had the pleasure to dine at Hemeji recently and I wasn't disappointed. Firstly the decor of this restaurant is modern and very stylish; unmistakably Japanese. The waiting staff were wonderful, attentive and very friendly, the chefs all appeared to be Japanese. Most importantly the food, again it was unmistakably, authentic Japanese. I ordered the chicken with prawn dumpling ramen and the duck yakatori. The ramen was very nice and cooked to perfection, the broth had a deep and complex flavour that was above expectations, the duck yakatori was also of a high standard. I'm very much looking forward to returning, to further experience more from thier rather extensive menu.
So excited to have this great 'izakaya' in Adelaide! Beautiful food, great range of Japanese drinks, and lovely attentive service. Will definitely be going back.
Wu Qiangsheng
simply authentic feeling. been there twice. food is excellent. service is good. the private room is a great addition to this Japanese noodle bar.
Joe Haigh
I stopped in for a quick dinner before heading out and was not disappointed. Both the food and service were great. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and get a spot on the bar to eat.
I Only Eat Desserts
It’s been a while since I’ve been excited for a new restaurant but I was extremely keen about Ramen and Izakaya Himeji. Run by the same people that run Sushi Bar Genki (visit 1 and visit 2) I didn’t think it would be a miss, especially since I’m already a fan of the ramen there.

Ramen Adelaide

We were here a year ago when they just started when staff attitude was not the best. A year on, revisiting this place, service has improved tremendously and now is one of our top go to Japanese restaurants in Adelaide. Ramen is spectacular and Yakitori superb. It's like a focussed nexus of Japan where you walk into for a superb Japanese dining experience. A must for Japanese food lovers.
Snapfood
I gotta say that I really like the customer service here. When we were waiting for out seats, every staff that walked by us greeted us with a smile, and that made me feel very welcomed. I love the restaurant setup and the decoration, especially the bar: it reminded me of one of those jazz bar in Japan. One downside in my experience at this restaurant is that we had to wait for quite a very long time for our food. Good thing is that the ramen I ordered didn't disappointed me. I might come back.
On The Chopping Board
On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were kindly invited to Ramen & Izakaya Himeji (RIH) for dinner. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Ramen & Izakaya Himeji. RIH's signature Ramen - Kokuryu - Himeji Tonkotsu Black - Read on for more!. After fellow team member Nathan had visited RIH three times in the first week of it's opening, Jess and I (Amanda) were very excited to attend this menu tasting to see what all Nathan's fuss was about! His quick chop definitely had our taste buds singing all the way to RIH.

Being brought up in Japan I'm pretty particular with their cuisine here in Australia and this place nails it. About 90% of staff which is a good start, instead of the Korean rip off places you get in Sydney. the classics like yakitori, karage, tokoyaki and sashimi were killer and true to their origin but with their own subtle twist. not so sure about their cocktails though. I recommend this place highly!

30/12/2016

Visited Himeji again today. The whole experience was nothing but disappointing. We ordered the "Sashimi Main" which was supposed to be a whole serving on sashimi. The sashimi were off cuts and frozen and was not palatable. I unfortunately had ordered the Kaiden chiraishi sushi and my experience compared to the one I had a year ago were worlds apart. It was really substandard. Something that you'd have in a supermarket perhaps. WOULD NEVER RETURN.

27/12/2015
We visited Himeji recently and I loved my experience there. Other than attentive staff, Himeji's interior decor is very much like an izakaya, and maybe that's what I like about it.

I had the salmon chirashi, and I loved it! There were plenty of ikura, and we know how much I love ikura! We decided to get a steamed bun to share, it was soft, and succulent.. Much better than Wonderbao's buns (Melbourne).

It was too warm a day for me to have ramen, but My partner being a ramen enthusiast was a little disappointed that there wasn't a huge variety of ramen to try. His bowl of ramen was just "alright".
We usually get miso soup in every Japanese restaurant we visit because that's usually our indicator on how good a restaurant is and it was quite standard.
A pretty good experience for me with the chirashi and I am definitely going back! :)

A friend and I visited this new establishment for a Food Day Friday lunch. When I say new it was the old Augè site (one of my favourite Italian joints) that have been renovated it still had the copper metallic doors. However that's where the similarities end.

The interior has been converted into a modern take on a Japanese restaurant. Segregated into different sections. And if anyone can remember the old Augè, the little nook in the corner has been converted to a private room. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by the alterations.

For the menu we both decided on a bento box. Not your ordinary bento box that cost around the $10 mark. This one was priced at $35 but worth every penny as it included seared wagyu, sashimi, sushi, chicken kariaage and a medley of seafood. The bento box also consisted of a small serve of ramen and dessert (ice cream). All in all was very decent value.

The food was fantastic. My ramen was great although I don't eat a lot of ramen to compare however it was to my liking. My friend on the other hand advised it was not the best. We didn't end up having dessert as we did run out of time but I believe the ice cream may have been a matcha ice cream of some sort.

Verdict. Great place for Japanese or for a longer lunch. Would spend an hour and half to enjoy the experience so not a quick lunch kind of place. Would definitely come back.

Excellent food. But substandard service. Ordered 4 ramen , 3 arrived and after 45 minutes waiting and multiple enquiries, finally the last one arrived.

Entrees were tasty, enjoyed the kingfish w jalepenos and gyoza were delicious. Ramen was pretty good, better than ryos but they should get rid of the steam buns from their menu. $9.8 for slice of wagyu beef, avo, lettuce and wasabi in a half warmed store bought bao? No thanks, why ruin your menu with something not Japanese? I would come back for Sushi and their Gyoza.

Popped into Himeji Ramen because it is a new Japanese restaurant in Adelaide, and i just love Japanese foods. Since the word ramen was in their restaurant name, i just had to try it. There is a range of ramen, though not as extensive as other ramen restaurants but plentiful none the less.

The food came out quite quickly despite having trainees on the night, so props to the current staffs. Ramen also comes with a side of sauce and pickled condiments if you are into that. The ramen was quite good. It was rich in flavour with enough spice packing. You are also given an option on how you liked your noodles cooked which is nice, because i like my noodles just a little under cooked to maintain its rigidity. Though afterwards, I was left feeling very thirsty, I'm not sure if it was the spice/ oil of the ramen or high MSG, maybe a mixture of both.

Overall, I think I will back to try their ramen again if I am in the chinatown area.

Delicious ramen in a lovely setting. The cocktails and drinks menu is extensive and satisfying and the service is quite good. The staff are all friendly and attentive, although I think they need to come up with a better way to keep track of customers sitting at the bar as there were some lulls in attention - but I'll give them a pass on this as it is still a new restaurant. The ramen itself was deep and flavoursome, with wonderful broths and savoury flavours.I am looking forward to going back.

Food is great but the service is terrrrrible!
The waiter couldn't tell which table ordered what and constantly brought the wrong food. For one dinner time, orders for our table got mixed up three times, including giving us the wrong food and the wrong amount!
We ordered the beautiful plum liquor (60ml per serve) which worths trying. HOWEVER, four serves of the plum liquor, none of them is 60ml! 30-35ml at most! We didn't realize this until the second round when the actual correct amount of liquor was brought to us. We pointed this out to the waitress, she took the drink away for measuring, and tipped over the extra bit!
For all the restaurants we've been to in Adelaide, in Australia and in many other countries, this is literally the first time!
It's quite a disappointing experience purely because of the service. Personally I felt really bad for the owner whose other shop is Genki. We really loved the food, just couldn't believe why on earth were these incompetent staff members hired!
Nice Japanese restaurant in town. This restaurant owned by the same owner of genki. There are plenty of parking lots surrounding China town or you can try parking at side streets. This restaurant has some spots where they kept it for just walk in customers only and the rest for reservations. Quite limited tables, so make a reservation if you have 4 people or more. Edamame can be such a simple entree/nibbles but the edamame with chilli, garlic and black pepper is a must try at himeji... It is absolutely delicious. A great nibble while waiting for mains or even after while you are just enjoying a drink. Wanted to try something authentic, order their oden (soup can be slightly salty). We order the sushi boat - normal price $65 but for opening special $55. It is definitely worth the value. Combination of sashimi and sushi. Presents to be quite fresh but the sushi rice and topping never stick, most of them just fall when you pick them up. Hmmm I always believe as you pick them up, they should be somehow together. Nonetheless, taste good and fresh. Order few ramens to try, ramen dishes are not bad but I had better ones at genki. One dish that I might not recommend is the Gyoza. The Gyoza does not taste fresh and it is quite sloppy. The greenish chilli sauce served with Gyoza was good but not the Gyoza itself. However, this restaurant is just up and running, plenty of time and space for improvement. It presents to be a great start will be back to give it another go.

The spot I sat which just facing the air con~so the food served gets cooling down so fast~it made me have to eat everything a bit fast which is not my way~because it's a bit late dinner~so I ordered a prawn bun and small ramen~the soup of ramen which is ok and it does have something we call collagen~and bun is interesting and fresh~ I pretty like this high cost performance light dinner~

Ramen & Izakaya Himeji is opened by the same owners as Genki Japanese restaurant, the only restaurant that makes half decent ramen in Adelaide, so we had really high expectations for it. Almost as soon as Ramen & Izakaya Himeji was open for business, we made a reservation and we popped in for lunch.

From the owners of the superb Sushi Bar Genki comes a new ramen bar right in the heart of Adelaide. They have a seperate lunch and dinner menu, both of which are extensive. There are so many types of sushi and sashimi, you’ll be scratching your head as to what to choose. For me, I was here for the ramen and I opted for the large Himeji Original Hakata Tonkatsu.

You'll have noticed in the past that we had a big Japanese influence when a previous OTCB member was always travelling to Japan. That influence is still strong with myself, Nathan, as I would often hear about his wonderful adventures, and his obsession with Ramen. When Hayes let me know that Ramen & Izakaya Himeji was opening up in the old Auge location, I was very excited. A true Ramen bar in the heart of Adelaide, opened up by the same group that run Sushi Bar Genki.
