Review Todai Sushi King - Adelaide

Our first time here and it was great! Probably the best ramen place we’ve been so far here in Adelaide. It’s a but hard to find a parking spot near it because it’s in the heart of the city but definitely worth a visit. Very busy place so make sure you come early!

I had the lobster tail ramen, which is kinda good. We also had corn ribs as a side. Small on the serving for its price. Food came out fast. Overall a bit of an average experience.

Okay but wow…. I think that this is the best ramen in Adelaide 🍜 The creaminess of the broth was the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. You could taste every flavour in every single dish! None of them missed! We enjoyed: - Prawn Toast 🍤 - Pork Gyoza 🥟 - Karaage Chicken 🐔 - Truffle Ramen 🍜 - Original Tonkotsu Ramen 🍜 11/10 for everything! We really enjoyed this place and the Japanese vibes it was channeling! We can’t wait to go back w our fam 🤍 @minimono.noodlebar For better quality pictures view our Instagram @welovetoeat_adl

Previously a cheap sushi shop, now a brightly lit ramen stopover. Karaage chicken was really good, flavoursm, juicy and tender. Agedashi tofu was also decent size and soft. Yummy with the soy sauce dressing. Lobster tail broth was really rich, not spicy, packed with flavour and umami. Goes really well with the fresh noodles which absorbs the soup as time passes. Eggs were cooked to perfection. Lobster Broth can get a little too rich after a while, as it has a hint of seafood flavour to it too, it was best to share. Lobster tail itself was just a tad bit tough to the texture. Tonkotsu pork broth was really delicious, subtle flavour, not salty, just nice. Beef ramen was also not bad. But I prefer the cha siu. Would say its more to the pricey side, but definitely one of the better ramens in Ade.

Dinner at @minimono.noodlebar from a couple of weeks ago: heard about this place and had to try it out! The queue was long, and I'm not sure if I would wait 45min again to be honest. The ramen was good but not the best in Adelaide, but the novelty ones like the lobster ramen, is definitely worth trying. . Lobster ramen: with lobster tail, naruto, crustacean oil. The broth was really bold with a very strong seafood taste. The noodles' texture was okay. The lobster tail itself was quite tasty though! Overall, I liked the ramen because it was novel 😜. . Tonkotsu ramen: this one was okay. The broth was very garlicky, which was good. But I've definitely had better tonkotsu broth. I think if you want traditional tonkotsu ramen, maybe have it elsewhere. . All the non ramen stuff: takoyaki, chicken karaage, agedashi tofu, gyoza, seaweed. Pretty standard stuff that are pretty tasty ☺️.

Would not be our go to for Ramen, tried their Original tonkatsu ramen. Soup is quite salty no flavour of pork, egg was way too salty and chashu is a nice thick cut but bland.

This was an overall nice experience. The ramen is on the more expensive side but was pretty good. We ordered the lobster and truffle ramen which was nice for something different. We will have to return as it would be good to try the other styles. The staff were very friendly and helpful making space for a pram. There was enough seating inside without feeling cramped. I would recommend the truffle ramen in particular.

Friendly staff, food came out relatively quick but the ramen was average. Tonkotsu ramen broth did not have mich flavour and the truffle ramen was more on the saltier side. Pictured: Tonkotsu ramen and truffle ramen

This was our initial spot for sushi and this didn't have a good vibe to it. Some old sushi at the front bundled up together for a cheap price, certainly not a good vibe.

Got ourselves the crab sushi and a seafood sushi(with octopus, ginger etc). The mentioned items were quite good, though I felt the rice used was quite old. Therefore we stopped at two plates and headed out. Go to the sushi train if you're looking for a better experience, this if it's about the pricing.

$3 sushi train plates, can't go wrong. A little too many dishes with kewpie but that's a personal preference. Offered to order any dishes we'd like, can't fault the service

As far as sushi goes, it qualifies, however there are much better places on offer in Adelaide. The restaurant is relatively small and cramped, not very comfortable and the staff are quiet and come across as not very friendly. Aside from special circumstances, there's no reason I'd choose to come here over somewhere like Sushi Train.

Pricing is fairly cheap but sushi is average. When asking for water, make sure to specify for tap/table water otherwise they hand you bottled water which adds to the price.

Usually come here for a quick feed and the sushi is pretty nice, but no wow factor. For $3 a plate, you can choose from any sushi on the train but the pieces are usually quite small so be wise and go for bigger pieces so that it's worth your money.

Downside is the udon. It tasted like soap or detergent which was very unpleasant to eat, although the tempura prawns were nice.

Personally, this place is only nice if you want some fancy sushi but otherwise, save those $3 for a proper sushi roll!

Not great at all but cheap so if ur on a budget good luck very average made probably not the best I've had sorry for negative feed back but had to be said as other reviews must be fake cause not good.

I absolutely love this restaurant. We went here about 3 times over the 2 week period we were in Adelaide, produce was really fresh and great value! Many of the dishes can also be prepared fresh if requested.

This is a racist restaurant. On the afternoon of 3 January 2016 at about 4.45 pm at rundle st, Adelaide. I tried to buy some sushi from this place. The shop assistant just ignored me and only served the white customers. They all came after me. First, a few white people wanted to dine in and they came after me obviously. The shop assiatant welcomed them in and gave them the menu. Then she pretended not to see me and later a white guy and his son came, she then welcomed them in and ignored me again. And this time i just stood in front of the sushi counter to wait for her service. Then a white lady came after me queuing for buying the sushi. The shop asistant said hello to the white lady behind me and ignored me again! I then just left and did not want to waste my time on this racist lady and the racist restaurant. The shop assistant herself is even an Asian. This is really a horrible experience!

So today I went to Todai, this was the second time ive been here as they still have the $3 a plate special which has been going on forever, which is a positive! This time though, has not been a pleasant time. I may have gone at the wrong time of the day, but the service were average, there were only one person on floor and it took forever before she came over to serve us. Despite the lack of service, thumbs up to that waitress which was also the cashier, and chef. We only ordered aburi salmon and karage, but I think that was enough for the day. The karage was straight out of the fridge, although it’s supposed to be fried chicken. At least make an effort by microwaving or something.
The aburi salmon was really plain and cold, even though she blowtorched the salmon in front of us, she still managed to fail in making it warm.
Once again, they probably had a bad day, but if you want cheap sushi, and don't want to walk to Chinatown, Todai is a cheap sushi train option.

I pretty good place. I enjoy the food, even if you know it's bad for you. Not the type of sushi you could eat regularly but a nice treat. The pricing is amazing, the maths is simple enough. It could use some work here and there but I would recommend if you're looking for a fast, large selection, inexpensive sushi train.

Last week was the first time we came here to try $3 sushi, the shop was clean and tidy. We ordered 15 plates of sushi, which was well presented and fresh. Abui salmon was so nice. Compare to the price and the quality, not a bad chose.

I ordered the vegetarian lunch pack, and was the worst sushi I ever had in my life... I had to throw away the entire pack just after taking the first bite. Not recommended at all...

Fav SUSHI train. All plates are $3, that the highlight, the quality is actually pretty good if you get there at teh right time (11:45ish or 1:30ish) if you go then , you are destined to a wider range and a greater quality. although all plater are $3 it doesnt mean they dont sell high quality plates for $3 and if you dont see your favourite plate why dont you just request one! EASY very good experience, great staff, definatly try it out!

Missymoo72. I was delighted to discover this former hole in the wall that once provided not even passable sushi rolls, has new owners and now boasting a train.
The interior is small and cosy & clean.
The offerings were super fresh and beautifully presented.
Great improvement!

Got a vegetarian pack...I have no idea what was in one of the rolls but the texture was like a teaspoon of spit with wood flakes. Each one was deep fried, yes over the seaweed, which in combination with the putrid taste/feel lead me to believe it was a disguise for old sushi. Absolutely disgusting. The staff always seem as though they want to kill themselves, and the egg sushi is always too salty. One of the worst sushi bars I've been to and will not return.

...the sushi train laden, but all plates were $3! Everything was fresh and tasty (the hot dishes were still hot) and the train and tables were nice and clean. There was a good mix of favourite sushi combinations and fusion offerings, like the sun-dried tomato and cucumber inside out roll, which was tangy and tasty.

Todai Sushi King is located near the western side of Rundle Street. I’ve been to this place in the past and was barely impressed, but in recent times, they’ve introduced the sushi train concept into their store.
