Review Le Souk - Adelaide

Noorzidah M N
Amazing food, fantastic service. Full of aromas of paella and cooked meat. The owner is so friendly. We ordered tea and it came with a performance of tea pouring ceremony. Worth the money and nice atmosphere. So many people in this restaurant. Will come again and try other food in the menu.

The Algerian paella here is a different variety to the standard Spanish paella that I've had over the years. They make them look quite appealing and I prefer this paella stall to the other one at the markets. Definitely worth a try. Yours truly @fooderarri

First time going this morning. Was blown away, so rich and full of flavour. Everyone was so kind, funny & friendly. And i like the spice selection, excited to cook something different at home now. And thankyou for having heaps of vegan options. No one misses out.

We visited Le Souk for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was really busy, but we were able to get two seats at the counter. All the items on their menu looked enticing, and we decided to order a lamb tagine and a Moroccan tea. The tagine was served with a couscous salad and bread. The tagine lived up to its expectations, and the tea was great as well. I loved the addition of pine nuts as this gave a bit of a texture and a creaminess to the tea. The paella also seemed very popular, and we will definitely try that next time we are in Adelaide.

Wonderful! Not only was the owner an absolute legend but the food was beyond any expectation. We had the vegan paella which they prepare fresh daily, and little did we know that it was going to provide such an explosion of flavours as well as an amazing balance of spices. I would have this for lunch every day. The rest of the menu provides an ample selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as animal protein based ones, so heaps of possibilities. In short, just stop wandering. This is were you want to be. 100% Recommended.

Served with a date and smile, the food is amazing, fresh and cooked for enjoyment. On a busy market day, the service was a little slow, but the taste spice and food presentation makes up for the slowness. You can buy the spices / sauces that go into the meals. Take away is ok too.

Covid times: only doing outdoor dining and takeaway food - we can still eat out safely 🙂. Takeaway lunch from @lesoukadelaide - a great option for takeaway when you're at @adelcentralmarket for groceries 😜😜. . Algerian paella with chicken: pretty decent paella! I like the charred bits, and the flavours were great! It's a bit different from Spanish paella, but still quite tasty 😊.

Algerian paella for lunch today. Beautiful and delicious. Very lovely people making and serving delicious food. Strongly recommend.

Had merguez sausages and cous cous. Very nice flavours and presentation. Mint tea and coffee were both good as well.

Azoo will date you
And leave you feeling content.
After a succulent lamb couscous.
Traditional, premium quality, slow cooked, North-African comfort food to soothe the soul.
The chakchouka made for a packed with flavour breakfast. Not sure which one we actually had. Was enticed by a man offering me a date ( the fruit) whilst meandering at the markets. Got talking, he made it sound good, he asked me if I liked spicy and then he told the chef to make it. I think it was the spicy sausage one. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of flavour from all the spices. Came with bit of warm crusty bread to dip in the sauce.
Also had a tea with pine nuts in it.

Stopped here on my trip to the Adelaide market. Super friendly staff and the best peppermint tea with pine nuts. Unfortunately I didn’t have the food as I had eaten already although it looked and smelled amazing!

I love the Adelaide Central Market early in the morning, just as the traders open. Before the crowd gets in and the hustle bustle begins. Situated right next to one of my favourite places ever (Comida) is a charming Algerian Place called Le Souk – French/Arabic for The Market. How fitting.
DOOF!
Always fascinated by the way they make mint tea. It's pretty nifty! Cous cous is very light and fluffy. Full of flavours and spices. It's a place that is able to transport you to Algeria!

I went to the Gawler Place outlet. The owner is lovely and will "date" you as you walk in (a traditional offer of a date to eat). The menu is enticing with lots of tajines and cous cous dishes as you would expect. I tried the brik which is meat and egg in a thin pastry that is baked and comes with salad and a spicy sauce. It was nice. It's good quality but slightly pricy - particularly for lunch - and the serves are not huge.

Yummo.. been twice now and so sad that I can't return for a while. Mostly because I live in Melbourne. There is no doubt that this would be a regular haunt for me. Just my cup of tea

I cannot get enough of this restaurant. The Menu is absolutely out of this world it's so delicious. The staff are friendly and I always feel welcome. This is 'le bled'! Translation, it is home sweet home.
The prices are not expensive at all contrary to some reviews I have read. A whole couscous huge plate of couscous costs just as much as a gourmet sandwich in Adelaide. The Couscous is a time consuming dish to prepare as opposed to a sandwich and it is a very healthy meal.
I would suggest to take away a pot of harrissa as I am a conaisseur of this ingredient and it is by far the best interpretation I have ever tasted. It is SO delicious, and you can use it to complement just about anything at home.

This is not really a fair or complete review because we didn't stop for a meal, just some mint tea, some coffee and a couple of sweets after a round of shopping in the Market.

BUT, the mint tea was excellent, the coffee very good and the sweets delicious.

Best of all was the service. Friendly, helpful and they gave me a free date.

Didn't try the food, but we saw it going past us and it looked very fine.

Amazing. The food was exotic, original and absolutely delicious, flavoursome and appealing. Atmosphere was cozy, quaint and African-themed, as matching the cuisine. Gave a genuine Service was good too! Food serves were generous and excellent value. 5 stars. Definitely coming back!

I tried out the restaurant on Gawler Place and absolutely loved it. Great for delicious slow-cooked couscous dishes and refreshing mint tea. It's food that's filling but won't leave you feeling bloated or as though you've eaten badly. The service is excellent and there are some tasty vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for those inclined. It's a little on the pricy side, but for the quality of the food and the service, it's well worth it. If you're happy spending a minimum of $40 for dinner, try out Le Souk. You won't be disappointed! Oh, and definitely try the Lamb Tagine, which has been slow-cooked for six to seven hours. It's incredible!

Review is for smaller place in the markets not the main restaurant: Absolutely amazing food. We had the cous cous royal with mint tea for two. Never had Algerian food before but I've never had anything so tasty. The place get's pretty busy but wait for a seat and go with the flow. The girl behind the counter is super on to it and the owner is super friendly and will explain anything you need.

Service and food was excellent. The owner was very friendly and funny and the ladies behind the counter run a tight ship. It's rare to be able to sample authentic Algerian food. Highly recommended.

Came on a Friday morning when they weren't too busy and had a fantastic experience. Got the Merguez sausage breakfast and the flavours were absolutely amazing. Cannot remember the last time I had something so tasty and unique. Seemed authentic but in saying that, I don't usually go to Algerian restaurants all that often. Super friendly staff who explained the flavours and dishes.

Great night had with friends at Le Souk.
Fantastic food and interesting combination of styles and ingredients.
Modest wine selection but off set by good and unique wines to choose from.
Happily return with friends or for a special night with my wife.

Great stall with affordable prices. Genourous servings and a playful friendly owner who loves to interact with his customers. My only criticism is that the same flavours seem to run through every dish , so if you plan to share and sample several dishes it all tastes the same, but if your having just 1 dish you should enjoy the experience

Great find in the Adelaide CBD. Halal food which is great! The lamb cous cous was delicious. Want to come back for breakfast and try the shakshouka

Really liked this place. We ordered lamb couscous & chakchouka for lunch. The lamb couscous was absolutely flavoursome but we don't like the chakchouka. It's just like beef mince with veggies. We also really loved the dried dates that were given to us as soon as we sat down at the table. Next time we will order a pot of fresh mint tea instead of the other herbal tea. The herbal tea was just served to us out of the tea bag. I don't like that.

Took away a "Trio" pack of Falafels, hummus and tabouleh. The falafels and tabouleh were a bit underwhelming, but the hummus was excellent. for $12 though, I don't think it was worth the money. Probably wouldn't get it again.

The owner made a big deal about their cous cous, so maybe I'll come back and try that next time.

When only a spoon is given to eat the Lamb, it is understood how soft and long the meat is cooked to perfection. Had the couscous with lamb chunks (meat cooked for 6 hours), topped with delicious chickpeas and carrots served with a spicy capsicum and chilli chutney.
The owner was kind enough to serve the traditional mint tea with toasted pine seeds explaining the art of pouring it. Friendly service and attentive. Absolutely enjoyed my lunch experience here.

Nice and friendly service and good atmosphere in the market centre. We had the large shakshouka between 2, very tasty ! Only improvement would have been fresher bread

Absolutely Delicious. After walking around the markets in 35+ degrees heat i found Le Souk. Had the Lamb Couscous it was beautifully delicious, and the staff were every helpful and friendly. Will be definite returning.

Hidden gems in a bustling market. The food is so delicious plus the service (owner) is very friendly and welcoming. A must place to eat when you're in Adelaide.

Delicious. Buddy and myself were looking for something different to our usual cheap Friday night Gouger St dinner and found this place, asked what was best on the menu and was not disappointed. The lamb couscous was so delicious - perfect winter meal. The market's atmosphere on a Friday night is an added bonus too. Will be returning.
On The Chopping Board
Always on the lookout to try something new, and maybe get a flashback of some previous #otcbontour meals, we (Amanda, Nathan and Mirko) were all excited when we were asked to come and try Le Souk's menu, and wasted no time in organising a lunch time visit. Le Souk or ‘the Market’ in French/Arabic, serves Algerian cuisine and retails a range of unique spice blends, preserves and condiments.
Two Fat Cullos
Went on a busy Friday night the staff were so lovely, welcoming & willing to discuss the menu & what's best! The atmosphere from the markets then sitting at Le Souk soaking up the North African vibe & smells was great reminded us of our overseas trips abroad. The food was so flavoursome & very affordable, we highly recommend getting a tea, mint & pinenut is a good one plus you get a floor show when he pours it for you! Will see us again that's for sure!

Lamb Couscous (Extraordinaire) in Ras El Hanout with Chickpeas, Carrot and Peas. Light, fluffy couscous with slow cooked lamb and veg

Best cous cous imaginable. Visiting Adelaide for a friend's wedding. Wandered into the market and found Le Souk.
The food was exquisite! Can't recommend this place highly enough. Beautifully spiced, pillowy cous cous, juicy beans, melt in the mouth lamb. The chakchouka looked amazing too. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

The Central Markets has always been a bit of an international food hub with so many different cuisines right at your fingertips. In the form of a stall, Le Souk serves up an interesting selection of breakfast and lunch offerings. Some dishes to note are their Chakchouka, the Merguez Sausage and their perfectly made Couscous.
Adelaidefoodcentral
With Russian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Italian and Spanish food already available, Le Souk brings Algerian cuisine to the table. As the eatery is merely a small stall within the markets, it’s nothing more than a small kitchen and counter area. The menu is also simple and straight forward with a handful of breakfast and lunch options, gourmet toasties, couscous and salads.
I Only Eat Desserts
Chakchouka came in a large and small size but the large was about the size of my head. Small size please. Flavoursome spice filled broth that was absorbed into the minced beef with a poached egg hidden within. Served with crunchy fresh bread and a side of firey red Le Souk special spice blend that had a tasty chilli hit. What a steal at only $9.90 :)
