Believe the reviews - the food here is amazing. It’s one of those little places with simple decor and not an ounce of pretension. The food served was so, so good and I’m so glad we visited. The mantu dumplings were little parcels with tasty lamb mince and drizzled with chili oil and yoghurt - perfect. The lamb shanks on rice was so succulent and fell off the bones while the rice was juicy and tasty - perfect again. The chicken tikka kebabs were also so juicy and full of flavour (meat is so often dry), and were served with house made bread from the tandoor. Servings are of a decent size, so arrive hungry and enjoy. Will definitely be back!
Incredible food! Love this place
Delicious food. Friendly owner. I’ll be back.
The best Afghanistan restaurant in the eastern suburbs. I have been there many times and I was never disappointed. The portion is generous and the chicken and kafta skewers are moist and amazing. Highly recommended.
WOW!
We went to food heaven and back 😁
Honest food, simple but full of flavours!
So, we ordered the mixed meat (2 x chicken & 2 x minced lamb), manto (lamb & veg dumplings), lamb korma and we were served with a basket full of bread!
The bread - so fresh, crispy on the outside but fluffy and soft inside. You'll not stop once you start eating. It's also served with a side of yoghurt dip which is very pleasant.
The mixed meat - I wanted to get the lamb tikka orginally, but the owner who took our order suggested to have the minced & chicken isntead, since we're getting the lamb korma. They were amazing, we prefer the seasonings on the chicken compared to the minced meat. I assume, its the chicken tandoori that we had (they were coated in yellow marinate)
Manto - My favourite! They are like wontons, but not the same. They are packs with flavours, the tangy sauce & yoghurt on top compliment the pastries. You gotta try them!
Lamb korma - my hubby's first reaction was the sauce remind him of grandma homemade tomato sauce but with lamb flavor. Again, this dish was also delicious, especially with the bread.
The owner was super pleasant, super friendly. He suggested the mixed meat for us to try and he was right. He gave us plenty of bread to eat 😁
We paid a total of $42 for 2 pax, with a bottle of iced tea. Got out of the restaurant feeling full, but not sick to your stomach full. I think because the food were not greasy, they were clean, simple food that you must go and try!
We were very lucky that the store was quite when we got there due to the daylight saving and school holiday. But, customers started rushing in not long after we started eating.
We both enjoyed our dinner very much, thanks Golistan!
The bread is so good that I can eat it as a meal itself. The mince lamb skewer (Shami Kebab) is so tender and flavourful. The main area looks more like a take away place but has a few tables in there to accomodate dining in. They have another area to accomodate bigger groups for dine ins.
Must visit place if your are a fan of afghani food. Owner of the restaurant Umar is wonderful host !! Must try lamb korma and chicken biryani!! 👍
This place is a hidden secret. If all you care is about is food, this place is heaven. I have a monthly visit marked. The service is amazing and the chicken kebabs are to die for. Keep up the good work guys!
No frills absolute deliciousness! The staff asked if they could surprise us, we obliged, and they came back with charcoal cooked chicken, lamb, salad, bread and dip. Everything was perfectly cooked and authentic. We did not talk much through our meal as the food was so tasty. It was enough to forget that it was super cold inside the restaurant and that we were addressed as gentlemen, despite my obviously female presence - but hey I'd be a gentleman anyday to eat such a tasty meal.
Such a great restaurant! Their food is absolutely delicious. Unfortunately they ran out of rice that night, but their bread was great and a very large serving. Quite a generous portion for what you pay for. Would definitely recommend
