Friendly staff with fantastic breakfast! Especially the wraps!
Staying for business at the novotel for a few nights. Came across this restaurant while looking for a place to have dinner at DFO. Grabbed the $15 pasta and drink deal (also comes with a drink and garlic bread). Super good price, food was good (nothing special but good!).
I was lucky as compared to Diana last year. Prior to pick up someone returning from oversea so dropped to the Skygate for brekkie. When I meant to walk down to where the Coffee Club located, the promo broad of this eatery attracted my attention so opted for a good deal here. Well, i was greeted by a very friendly lady at the counter. After i have placed my order, i took a seat at the al freso area. My coffee came with a very nice red cup and was accompanied with a small chocolate with Vittora Coffee logo. Although the latte art was not a very fine one, the coffee really showed the heart. Strength and smoothness both are above average. Next came the savory dish. My reaction was "wow". Good portion with two large poached eggs , plenty of quality bacon slices and grilled tomato. Eggs were done perfectly with running yolk and bacon slices were very tasteful. Conclusion is: good coffee, good food and good service. For a deal of only $10.50, it is faultless!
Really enjoyed the breakfast, very affordable and not overly priced like other cafes around here. Beautiful, nice staff, would definitely recommend.
Came here unplanned, and found that they are doing a $10.5 breakfast with free small coffee that just drew my husband over and ordered before we sat down lol. I guess he is super hungry and doesn't wanna wait till I decide. anyway, out of my expectation, it wasn't too bad. poached eggs are still runny, got some bacon and half a tomato (been having no tomato breakfast for awhile so we are happy with it).
and the FREE coffee was nice and hot too. couldn't complain with the price.
Transit Taverns food, coffee and service are second to none and today's visit was no exception. Unfortunately, no food was available at the time of the visit but that could be subject to change soon. The manager was friendly, informative and went out of his way to be nice.
To the coffee, and this cappuccino demonstrated why people keep coming back to the Tavern coffee - for its quality and its strength. Not only that - the coffees are good value, with good size options too (a large coffee for under $5.50 for example).
A final mention goes to the delicious chocolate powder, generously smattered, and the sumptuous little free chocolate you get with your Victoria coffee.

'The Tavern' as we know it, this place is an absolute smash with 'the locals', (referring to the staff who work nearby). If you want a good cup of coffee - incredibly consistent, strong yet smooth and with three different sizes - its got to be the Tav (sorry Coffee Club, there's nothing up with your coffee, but any coffee drinking pro will label you 'generic' and note there's better elsewhere.) That's not all; you even get a free mini chocolate - admittedly, its not going to stop you from buying a bag of M and M's, but its a classy touch.
If you want beer, you got it, the catch of the day in this instance been a bottled beer by the name of 'Yenda' - a remarkable effort that had all the taste of a UK style 'real ale' with all the refreshment of a lager/beer. That's no easy trick - and its overtaken James Squire's '150 Lashes' as my new favourite Aussie beer. Get some...
To food options, and you get a fully loaded, filling breakfast that is anything but ordinary. Besides the two rashers of nicely done bacon, you get sausage, toast, hash brown, a choice of egg (scrambled, poached, fried etc) and plenty of vege options - spinach, avocado, tomato and a field mushroom.
Approaching it from a two person angle, you could spilt this in half and with a coffee it'd be a more than ample breakfast. Alternatively, if one of the two is vegetarian, then there are enough satisfying options on the plate to meet that requirement, also, as the vege options were very fresh, tasty and worked a treat with the scrambled eggs....
This was a return visit, the only minus point was in one part the scrambled eggs weren't throughly cooked. It isn't as bad as it sounds as it was only a small part of it, and you will find this a common (but unfortunate) feature of many places serving fried eggs. A rare slip.
On the upside, in a heavily crowded Brekkie sector, this is one of the best 'Big Brekkie' options around - a little bit
dearer than some places given the location but well worth it. Finally, if you want something a bit different, the lunch menu offers a delicious soft shell crab option with wonderful flavours. A really top place that DFO couldn't live without...
Very friendly very helpful when a dish we ordered wasn't available they went out of their way to get us something else suitable for my Gluten Free wife. Top service
Very tasty my daughter’s loved the steak, and the iced chocolate drink and the fries came with mushroom sauce tasted great and the wedges sweet chilli sauce and sour cream sauce.
Dined outside for breakfast with a group of 6 people who all thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks. Coffee was excellent, the kids rated the hot chocolates (withe the perfect temperature for drinking straight away) very highly. Fast, friendly service was also a great bonus to the experience.
9 of us had lunch here today, a break while DFO shopping.
We each ordered something different from the menu.
Meals were served in good time and everyone enjoyed their meals.
We'll be back and happily recommend the tavern to everyone.
The service was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was pretty good, although the chicken wrap was smaller than expected. Great and convenient location - perfect for a quick feed before a flight!
We popped here for breakfast, loved that it was quiet, thought the prices were fair, we had the Eggs, bacon with grilled tomatoes on Turkish bread for $11 as well as coffee. Staff were friendly. Only downside was using the app on the table to order as in the end we went to the counter to order and pay using cash.
Our meals where delicious and quick and we had the pleasure of being served by Chris who was amazing. Best customer service we have received in a long time
