Fantastic Brisbane gem hosting a unique Peruvian menu and a continuous rotation of awesome beers. Pictured is the tongue tacos - they were delicious even while nursing a hefty hangover.

Fantastic Peruvian-Australian bar food made with locally sourced ingredients, rotating taps of Australian made craft beer, in a cosy "refined grunge" setting with lovely staff. I'm a huge fan.

Superb food and drink and service to match.

We had long anticipated the opening of Mongrel for some time given to their promise of traditional Peruvian food with some local fusion. And they didn’t disappoint.

At first glance they have a dark, grungy feel with some very cool art work. From the moment we sat down we were greeted by friendly staff who exuded a feeling of gentle warmth and fervour reminiscent of someone genuinely enjoying what they do and this feel flowed throughout the restaurant from service to food.

We chose the tequeno’s (starter), tongue tacos and the cerviche (mains) matched with locally sourced beers recommended by the friendly staff. The tequeno’s were a beautiful crunchy, crispy, salty batter wrapped around a soft, chewy combination of mozzarella, haloumi and jalapenos that works brilliantly.

The cerviche is a splendid blend of salt, spice, sweetness and acidity. With slices of fresh local fish and octopus, soothed in zesty lime juice and paired with a lightly burnt, sweet potato; the balance of flavours is perfect.

Finally, the tongue tacos. To be fair we were unsure about the tongue but were pleasantly surprised by perfectly cooked, salty, crispy but soft centred portion of tiny tongue pieces. The tongue was accompanied by a mild spicy green salsa and a side of chopped coriander and onion that left us wanting more.

They have the feel of group of people who love and believe in what they do and that shines through into the flavour and balance of their foods. Five stars all the way.

Love this place! Quite a few good vegan options.
Love the taco nights on Wednesday.
They have mushroom, cactus or pumpkin in the vegan options and an equal amount of options for the meat eaters.
Cool atmosphere too.
Definitely recommend,
Also staff are great and super friendly.

The food at Mongrel is amazing! Value for money portion sizes. We ordered 6 dishes to share between 3 and almost couldn't finish them all as we were so full! My favourite is the tongue tacos! The only thing I'd recommend is adding a few more vegetarian options to the menu.

Fantastic food, delicious drinks and sensational service - this place has it all!! Recommend the cheesy tequenos (deep fried pastry rolls) and the light and fresh seafood ceviche. Lots of vegan options too.

Absolutely loved the concept of turning their food scraps into compost and that they offered an array of vegan options - both food and alcohol. The cauliflower bites were tasty and loved the avocado dip. The dumplings were a unique taste though, there was something in it I wasn't sure about so unfortunately wouldn't order again. The Prosecco was absolutely divine and loved the coupe glassware

It was an incredibly phenomenal Peruvian dining experience in Mongrel Bitchen! Love the relaxing vibes and the friendly staff. Wow, the foods are heavenly delicious! The beef tongue and the home-made kangaroo pastrami were absolutely palatable! Also, love the choice of snapper in the Peruvian ceviche. The Melbourne-made craft beer of choc-coconut stout is surprisingly smooth and luscious! Fell in love with this stout. This restaurant is highly recommended!

Honesty is important in reviews, so here's mine. I had lunch here on Ramen Thursday, and ordered the Tantanmen Ramen. The soup was on the mild side of the Tantanmens I've had, but definitely not boring. There's enough "umph" in there to keep me coming back for more. In fact, it was one of the first soups I finished. Egg. Perfectly balanced as all things should be. Too runny and it melts into the soup. Too much flavour and it doesn't compliment the rest of the dish. The chef nailed it with this one. The noodles were overcooked, but I'm hoping it's not like that everytime. Going again. That's a given.

Mongrel just stole my heart!! I love this place not just for the good beers they have, but also for the delicious food they serve. They have this amazing and delicious Peruvian influence on their menu and I love it, I would recommend to try the Lomo saltado and the Pisco Sour (cocktail) and if you are very hungry then order the SALCHIPAPA. I highly recommend this Pub😉

The salchipapas/loaded fries here are the bomb. Definitely a great place to chill with some friends for craft beer.

A worthy addition to the burgeoning Park Road bar scene. A small but tasty selection of beers and Peruvian inspired menu of full flavoured food. Friendly staff. Great for an afternoon or evening sojourn. The free pool table is a great touch.
