I visited Taro's Ramen in South Brisbane as a walk-in customer at around 1pm last Sunday. I've dined here regularly for several years; their tonkotsu ramen is one of the best in Brisbane, the food quality is consistently good, the staff are always lovely, and the ambience is very nice.
The only gripe I had with my last visit was that it took 40 minutes for our food to be served. I'm sure this was an anomaly since their service is usually quite fast (< 10 minutes), but I feel like the staff should have made an effort to update customers about their orders after the 30-minute mark.
I still love this place & I'll definitely be returning, but I'd suggest booking in advance if you'd prefer not to wait!
Great Tonkotsu ramen, delicious dry noodle!
The best ramen in brisbane. Broth is just perfect. Noodles are not exactly my favourite type but it's so unique that it's a minor issue for me.
Oh ramen… that perfect comfort food on these cold days.I haven’t made it to this venue of his before, but I knew I was in for a treat. ✔️ Wagyu Tataki- rare roast tataki style, with ponzu, olive oil, wasabi, and micro herbs. So many thinly sliced beef slices, a great way to whet our appetites as we wait for the star of the show.
I check the pictures on zomato and look forward to the noodle with scallop but it turns out they don’t have it for quite a while. A little bit disappointed but the noodle is good.
Yum!! Love added options to allow you choice alter your ramen - I.e less salt in the broth friendly service and really good value for soul warming ramen.
Lunch catch up with siblings is always great and someone suggested we catch up here at one of Taro's ramen venues. This place is deceptive when looking from the outside but once you open the door and enter you find ourselve looking at the high ceilings. The space feels and look big, like nothing you expect from a ramen house.
There is ample seating, so we are headed towards a booth and take our seats. The table was still a little dirty from the previous sitting, but wasnt that bad that we didnt notice. The staff member come over and gave us our drinks and offered to reclean the table.
Ordering is simple, look at the menu on the retouch screen, each item has a description of each dish. Very similar to edo sushi. But the pricing, is on the high end for dishes. Like wife ordered the miso ramen and went medium this one was $20 or so.
I went for the fire ramen, 2 others were another miso and special (Hawaiian ramen everything), gyoza and octopus balls as sides to start.
Not long after ordering, sides arrive quickly, taste wise, nothing special just your normal snacking meal.
When our ramen arrives, they look and make us hungry.
The fire ramen I received had 1 piece of pork and 1/2 an egg, this place does not offer free noodle refills as most places have. They charge $2.50 for such, but considering it is west end, maybe they had to incorporate that factor.
In saying so, my ramen did not need an extra noodle, the broth was rich and thick, but lacking spice. There was a red colour, but no heat like what you get when you add fresh chilli to pho. I would have like to have 1 more piece of pork, as most time just end up with noodles and stock after half way. It was a nice bowl of ramen today, and the others also enjoyed theirs.
There wasnt any real interactions with staff, they sit you at the table, you order meal off the tablet. They deliver the meals, tidy table then you pay.
Today, we had an issue with the bill, for some reason we were charged $300, which was too much. We worked out be appropriately $100, so after she realised that the previous bill was not cleared had to go through what we ordered. Took some time, was a shock to see, but cleared up in the end.
If in the area again, at a night sitting maybe might drop by again. Parking is horrible in and around the city.
Rainy Brisbane weather calls for some soup. We were on the hunt for pho but ended up with ramen. We’ve heard great things about Taro’s so decided to give it a go this time. Menu is limited and kept simple, which is how I like it best.
We ordered the shoyu ramen, simple in taste but rich in flavours! We ordered a large bowl with extra noodles, which took our one ramen order up to $20. Whilst tasty, it was a tad bit pricey for a simple bowl of ramen.
Taste 5/5
Value 3/5
Average 4/5
Love love love! Tried the October special - Jiro ramen. The soup is not super salty - that’s so good as most of ramen soup I tried are way too salty. The flavour of pork belly is the perfect combination of sweetness and saltiness and it just melts in my mouth. And the small salad is tasty as well. Will come back tmr hahaha
Great authentic Ramen and one of the better places in Brisbane. Its a quick and easy place to quench those sudden Ramen cravings. Service is professional and the whole team is very friendly.
I love that you can just walk in, grab a table and begin ordering. Their electronic ordering system makes this super easy! I ordered the vegan classic ramen and the lotus chips. Both items came out very quick. I found the broth of the vegan classic ramen to be a bit underflavoured but the noodles were nice and chewy and the tofu was beautifully marinated. Generous portion sizes and friendly staff.
Has the tonkatsu ramen - the broth didn’t have a pork bone taste to it, just salty. However at $16.5 it was decent and the noodles were cooked al dente. The gyozas were a bit burnt however the flavours were there.
It was good but not the best I’ve had, the tonkotsu wasn’t as intense (watery) and for the $30 price tag (large size, extra charsui, bambo shoots and an additional half egg?) it would have more than 3 very thinly sliced pork and more than one nori square, it was filling
Have heard many good things about Taro's; did not disappoint!
This place has very good Ramen. Portions are good size (normal around $16, medium for extra $3.50 and large for extra $5)
Taste is superb and service fast and very polite. They also offer take home Ramen (pre-cook 4 portions) for $30 and some Japanese beers and other alcohol. I will definitely come again.
Taros may not be everyone’s favourite but it is and will always be my No.1 ❤️
I’m hyper sensitive to MSG but I never had any bad reactions from Taro’s Ramen. I had ramen elsewhere and I can definitely tell there’s msg added although some places boasted no msg added in their ramen, it more or less contained in the condiments and toppings etc.
Taro has the best ingredients and amazing broth. They also provide creative monthly specials and those always keep me coming back for new surprises.
I can see reviews vary a lot here on Google, I guess everyone has different taste buds. I’m totally biased not just because it’s literally round the corner of mine 😂
Taro’s also holds sentimental value to me as I met someone special at their Ascot restaurant for the first date. Although we no longer see each other ever again, I still want you to have the best ramen, just not at my table.
Not much to say about Taro ramen, best ramen in Brisbane. First time been to the South Brisbane restaurant. Much larger and feel more modern than the Ascot one.
