Will come back for:
+ Spicy beef noodle soup
+ Grilled combination
This modern Vietnamese eatery is another great addition to this part of town. We dropped in here for dinner over the weekend, and was treated to deliciously generous servings of grilled meats (grilled combination) and hearty and flavourful spicy beef noodle soup. We also had the xo fried rice which was smokey, and presented nicely in a clay pot. And the bao pork belly which was salty and moorish. Prices were reasonable for what you get and the service was friendly and quick. A great option for Vietnamese cuisine in this part of town.
No nonsense just tasty, fresh food that won’t break the bank. Dropped in a few times now and it’s truly satisfied whatever it was I didn’t know that I was craving with their extensive menu at a price that certainly won’t break the bank either!
Came here with some friends for Saturday lunch, was pretty quiet which was nice. Menu had a good selection/variation. Had rice vermicelli and loved how you can pick one, two or three different meats to go with it. Got the nem nuong filling with grilled chicken. Huge serve!
Pho was not bad too !
I really like the atmosphere and vibes here, good decor and dim lighting. Seating is well spaced out, cute little bar as well. They had a good menu, very reasonably priced for Brunswick.
We got the bbq pork bao for entre and beef slice pho (large) and beef stir fry in Satay sauce.
Was actually disappointed in the Bao, as the bao itself was stale, most likely had been microwaved. The filling was also lacking the pickled carrots etc and there was no sauce? I probably wouldn’t order that again.
The Pho broth was nice!! I enjoyed it, however not much beef was served for a large dish. Also, with pho the beef is raw and gets cooked in the broth... when the pho came out the beef was already fully cooked which made the meat more tough... it was fine to eat though I still enjoyed it.
I would visit again! There’s a few items on the menu I’d like to try and hopefully come back for a couple of drinks with more friends.
Really recommend the vermicelli noodle salad. The lunch time special for $12.50 is such a great deal. The flavours of the tofu and sauce is great! Service is good and the food doesn’t take long to come out. The inside of the restaurant has been fitted out really nicely, they just need to fix the store front to come across more open and inviting and I’m sure they would get a lot more customers coming in.
We came to Okane a newly opened Vietnamese restaurant and throughly enjoyed the food ! We ordered the chicken spring rolls , the salt and pepper tofu, the beef skewers; and the pork belly bao. The favourite was definitely the pork belly, full of flavour paired with soft sweet bao buns. The salt and pepper tofu was also so good, they use the silken egg tofu so the texture is extremely soft and silky.
For dessert we had deep fried ice cream and coconut jelly - I loved the coconut Jelly the most! Duc the owner was extremely welcoming and having had decades of restaurant experience and being head chef in the kitchen you know your in good hands
Thanks for having us in!
O’Kane is a secret, hidden Vietnamese gem amongst the up-and-rising foodie hub in the trendy suburb of Brunswick. It’s the perfect spot for a homely, authentic Southeast – Asian meal with the whole family after a cold Winter’s day in Melbourne, or to wind down with a comforting bowl of steaming pho, so that with each flavoursome sip, it washes away the weariness of the day. O’Kane is run by a dedicated, Vietnamese owner and chef, Nhan, who happily shared with us his flavours of home. One of Southeast Asian restaurant’s biggest pitfalls for me, is often how some dishes taste very similar towards the end, as everything becomes an overwhelming mix of lemon, chilli and saltiness – but this is something that O’Kane fortunately diverts away from, making it a classic Vietnamese restaurant in Brunswick that I wouldn’t hesitate coming back to.
O’Kane is amongst the many Vietnamese eateries dotted along Sydney Road. With their authentic recipes and fresh, quality dishes like the Pho, it’s no doubt proving to be popular with the locals. Coupled with amazing specials on offer, you can count on O’Kane for a delicious yet affordable Vietnamese feed.
A nice place for a quiet meal. Food wasn’t anything mind blowing but it wasn’t over priced and was quite tasty. The wontons were quite nice and the skewers were good too. Service was good but they had run out of a lot of things on the drinks menu.
We now have been there 5 times. It is so good that we will not stop going. Great food and great service and great ambiance.. Nani and his team makes sure we are looked after. I love the chicken ribs and the silken tofu. Excellent. Keep up the great work and excellent food.
