These days when The Dear Luncher finds himself in Brunny, it doesn't take long for a sense of unease to set in. There was a time, ladies and gents, when Your Dear Luncher was hip. He was with it, he knew the score. Not anymore. The people are too weird. The smells are off-putting, crusty and grungy is no longer cool, it's annoying.
But Joey Smalls took that uneasiness away. Because nothing makes The Dear Luncher feel better than very good friend chicken. Joey Smalls makes VERY GOOD fried chicken. Joey also sells cans of Kaiju Krush for a reasonable price.
So, if you ever find yourself in Brunswick and feel as though you're a bit lost, or feeling a little uncool, go and eat fried chicken at Joey Smalls.
Late night pit stop to soak up the booze from The Brunny. Busy little place, but waiter sorted out a booth for us pretty quickly. Juicy wagyu burger, sizeable half portion of very moist chicken tenders and a mound of chips. Satisfying after dark feed.
Booked this venue for my 30th birthday last weekend.Was pleasantly surprised by the layout and the space, never been there before. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the music was great and the food was amazing. The mini burgers were delicious, but the chicken tenders where by far my favorite, had to order more because they were so damn good. The place and the people had a very warm and inviting presence, and was a very relaxed and fun place to host my party.Everyone who attended my party really enjoyed themselves and complimented the choice of venue.Thank you everyone who helped make my 30th birthday a great night to remember. I look forward to dining there again.
Have had this uber eats three times now and the burgers are always really good even after the sweaty scooter ride in a delivery bag. You can do much worse then ordering these burgs.
Came for birthday drinks and burgers with a small group of friends on a Saturday night. Staff were great with replying to emails for booking and put us in a grea spot our back in a few booths. We were able to smoke and hod our own heater!Friends bought me several cocktails, liked the strawberry and passionfruit jug the best (no idea what is was called). Smashed some crispy chicken tenders and even tastier mustard sauce. All in all was a relaxed and fu place for a get together. Bar staff were super friendly, made us some unique drinks and even brought all of our cocktails outside to us!
Louder DJ music did start around 11 and the courtyard filled up but that's expected and definitely added to the vibe :)
Have just held a birthday party at Joey Smalls and had an amazing time! The food was delicious, service was warm and friendly, and the music and atmosphere spot on. We were very well looked after and lots of our guests commented on our perfect choice of venue. I had been to Joey Smalls for a burger and drink a few other times before and have always had a great time. Thanks, guys, we will definitely be back again! :)
The venue I chose to surprise husband with for his 30th birthday! These guys have a great outdoor event space with a retractable roof- so it's perfect in all weather. The food is to die for! The chicken tenders are succulent (see only food photo I took...sorry I was busy schmoozing 😉 - the sriracha aioli; AH-MAH-ZING!!)), the burgers juicy and reasonably priced and the chips were perfection. The staff were lovely and we were well taken care of. Thanks Joey Smalls- you were awesome! Xxx
So, this place has changed. I was under the impression it was run by Huxtaburger which is why I was not terribly interested in it. But a friend had a birthday here the other day, and I found out that huxtaburger had not been involved for a long time. The current food and Menu are fantastic. We had a selection of mini burgers (but they were quite large) the piggly wiggly was my favorite with candied bacon. I also tried the fried chicken with their own home made sauce selection. I will be back,
For a vegan burger its seriously filling! can't see any con to this joint. Simple, not over priced or over pretentious, they make a well crafted burger and care about what they are doing from everything I saw. Not sure why it's not rated higher?
We live quite close but didn't get a chance to visit joey smalls before it temporarily closed (due to covid). So, we were quite excited to hear that it back open and eager to try it out. The experience did not disappoint! We ordered a beef and chicken burger along with the parmesan truffle fries. The fries were excellent on their own and did not need any sauces. The burgers were also well cooked and some of the better ones I've had in the area. The overall ambiance is very conducive to long hangouts with friends. Will definitely be back.
Had a wonderful night celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere was really friendly and relaxed. The food was generous and tasty. The service was great and everything ran smoothly. Really love the chicken tenders! Absolutely a must go for anyone who likes fried chicken as it's the best in Brunswick. Also love the bartender/waitress/manager who is here everytime we come. She is really nice, also sassy at same time and a highlight of coming to Joey smalls
Absolutely amazing. Immaculate flavour in the burgers, crispy onions and pickles couldn’t fault anything about it. Really cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. 10/10 would recommend.
Celebrated my birthday at Joey Smalls! Bec and Jake/Jack (forget their name!) were amazing - professional, easy to approach and so friendly!
The food came out a little late but Jake/Jack constantly gave us updates.
Steven, the owner, was amazing to work with too - answered all my questions, was professional and thorough!

Recently had the courtyard area for a gathering, which is a very nice space and vibe. The bar staff were fantastic which definitely keeps us coming back!
Great atmosphere! The burgers are alright, wine is nice. Customer service is a huge plus. We would definitely come back!
