Favourite place to eat in Cairns! Genuine Japanese, amazing ramen, decent variety, well priced. 10/10 would recommend
This is Japanese food - genuinely, and authentically prepared, For me though, the sushi rolls were a tad on the small size, and likewise the amount of wasabi that came with the takeout option (but would have been no problem, had I had asked for more) - the Unagi - cooked to perfection. Sake? You be the judge: hot, iced cold, or room temperature? Sake strength - three options. Vessel - again three sizes: now sit back and savor the quality!
Omg! I cannot rave about this place enough. The food here is amazing and authentic! We had dinner there the first time and we had to go back a second time. If raw octopus in wasabi is not your thing, the other menu items will impress you. The katsu chicken was fried beautifully. Soft and crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The ramen was so tasty and full of flavour. Even the fried Tuna pieces. Divine! I will definitely be back here when I visit Cairns again. We spoke to the friendly owner and he has been running this family business for 18 years. What a hidden gem.
Great little restaurant. My salmon and avocado salad was so filling, I was sorry not to be able to eat it all.

Come early as they don’t take bookings. Don’t worry too muxh if they tell you it’s a 40-min wait (it’s not really, although your food won’t come out all together). The food is authentic and excellent!! We had (and loved!) gyoza, agedashi tofu, chicken katsu, sushi, miso soba, and tempura udon. Fantastic food!!!
What is great about Matsuri is that they have such a wide variety of Japanese food and they do it all very well! Their sashimi is amazing and is dependent on what is available as they don’t accept second best. My favourite restaurant in Cairns!

My wife and I ordered 2 mains, ramen and a rice based thing with fried port and egg on top.
It was spectacular, an explosion of contrasting sweet and umami flavours.
This place is fantastic.
We had a most wonderful dinner with our work colleagues, the portion sizes were very generous and all the dishes were spectacular! Arigatou gozaimasu Masa!
This restaurant is our favourite Japanese dining place in Cairns. It doesn’t have shiny decorations but the food is delicious, owner and staffs are friendly.
