Review Local Press - Canberra

Julie Nguyen
A little bit of a wait because they don’t take bookings however food was delicious. Coffee was well was very well made. The view also is very nice to look at. Made our own breakfast combo and the portions are huge. Service was very good given how busy they were. Definitely would recommend to others if your in Canberra. Must eat and visit.

Great location. Food and coffee left mixed feelings: some dishes are great and absolutely worth coming (salmon and pickles), some are quite average (roll with mushrooms). Coffee was barely warm. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic scenery. Great place and the staff were lovely. The tacos were out of this world incredible, highly recommended. The menu and vegan options were quite impressive, lots of different things to choose from. Overall, a really good little spot, just be aware that it's quite expensive for the serving sizes given.
Karlo Urbano
This place deserves the highest rating for their exceptional customer service, along with their outstanding food and coffee at extremely reasonable prices. Will definitely visit again!

Definitely not worth your money. Coffee terrible, the long black had a sour taste.. could not taste the coffe in my cappuccino. They have surcharges on weekends (pretty normal) but with the quality food makes it not worth it.

A wonderful breakfast of quality organic and lowGI food - perfect for keto Warm and friendly service and atmosphere

This place was a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle. Busy but not too crowded and loud. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled. The food was amazing- I got the lamb and chickpea salad- the lamb was juicy and tender and fell to pieces, lots of it too. Lovely combination of spices. Fresh greens and feta! My husband got the soup special - carrot and pumpkin with just the right amount of chili hit- very flavorful and fresh! Very generous serving sizes.

Great place. Delicious food, wonderfully friendly staff, all in attractive location. Very poplar so might find it busy with bit of wait for table; even when busy service is good and quality of food undiminished. Very welcoming of solo dinners with the long table all ready and waiting.

Nice ambience n decor, big portion, tasty food and friendly staff :)

Came from Melbourne to here for a day trip and found this place from Zomato. I have to say everything is perfect, the stuffs are very friendly and the food is surprisingly good and healthy. I love pink juice. I will come again next time visiting Canberra.

Anyone else feel like country music is slowly squeezing into today’s music scene? I’m pretty happy about it as I’m a big country music fan. Had the bacon and egg bagel with a long black for breakfast this morning. Danny also had the same thing except he got a flat white instead of a long black. We reckon we will go back tomorrow cause we liked it. Great water view too. Coffee 7.7/10

Nice, cheerful place/space; good LARGE coffees; Cornish Pan was tasty, as was generous Bacon & Egg Piadina. May have to return before we head back to Melbourne!!!

Very average

Food and drinks are great, but service was hit and miss even when it wasn’t looking that busy. I called twice for a waiter and took them 20mins before coming to our table for orders. Food and drinks did came out quickly afterwards.

One of the best cafes that I have ever been to. They initially missed our order (some problems with the ordering system) but the way that they have handled that was very professional. The food was really good. I tried the crab and scrambled egg which was really delicious. Also, I need to add...the staff are really friendly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Tushar Pasrija
The best brunch I’ve had in Australia. The view from this cafe is breathtaking and the food is so amazing. Definitely one of the best in Canberra too. Cheers! 👏🏻

Love this place- especially the gluten free waffles. My only criticism is that it can be hard to get seated given it's popularity. Small price to pay for perfection.
Agreekable
Very healthy and delicious food. Only things is it’s always packed (good for business) and it can take sometime for you to get your food. We were asked to move twice for other people, and while we are happy to do so, it gets in the way of eating your food!
FoodLuva
Very good location right on the water and at the end of the wharf.
Chicken salad - this was great!
Lamb salad was pretty good. Very fresh, crunchy salad. The downside was the lamb, which was tender, but bland.
Eggs on toast - really, really good.
Zucchini & Corn Pancake - very delicious as well.
Service was very friendly.

I came here with family for breakfast on a Friday. Service was friendly, accommodating and prompt. I had the mushrooms on toast, which was delicious! Coffee was also good.

One of true gems in Canberra. The must visit place! I don’t know where to start? Menu, interior, location, view, staff, food , coffee, just everything is simply amazing. No wonder this place was full whine their neighbours were staying almost empty. Definitely will come back one day we are in Canberra again.

One of my favourite brunch places in Canberra! Haven’t had a dish that didn’t taste good yet.

This time I tried the LP breakfast with the Minty Kiwi Smoothie and my friends had the Salmon on Rye. The flavors were balanced wonderfully, however my one gripe would be there was too much avo, but I am not a big avo fan.

The smoothie was very coconutty and you couldn’t really taste any kiwi or mint (didn’t really live up to its name) but I guess it was healthy. I probably would go for the salted peanut caramel one next time though.

Overall a great meal.
Eat_drink_melbs
Amazing super fresh and tasty food. We had the LP and green breakfasts. They were both huge! Far too much to finish. Half the volume would have been satisfactory. That’s the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars as the food, staff and premises were fantastic
Li-La
We really enjoyed this cute café on the water for a family brunch in Canberra. Food has to be ordered at the counter but otherwise service was friendly. Decor is cute & quirky and food is good. Must be lovely to sit outside by the water in summer.
Liliankitty
I definitely love the decorations of this place, so chic and fun! Would be nice to hang out with loved ones here or just sit and have a nice coffee by yourself. The view is great too - it’s next to the lake. I tried the LP breakfast and especially loved the various types of mushrooms in it. The mint kiwi smoothie is awesome too - it’s got a bit traditional Chinese medicine “Goqi” in there and I love it!!!So sad I’m only in Canberra for a weekend. If I live here I would for sure come again.
Jianierrrrrr
Such a popular place for brunch! We went there 10am and still need to wait for a table and the waiting line were never stopped.
The service was little bit slow and not very attentive given how busy they were, it was fine.
The ingredients they used in drinks and food were all locally sourced wherever possible; protein were all free range, pasture free, chemical&hormone free. Probably that why the price of the meals were kind of pricy. The food menu was full of healthy options. Portion is big and overall taste was good.

White coffee was nice but the bottled cold brew was just ok. I loved the coconut water which was really natural, light, refreshing and not sweet at all.

#Kangaroo salad#-grilled kangaroo meat served with zucchini noodle, roasted pumpkin and beetroot purée. The kangaroo meat was really tender and seasoned well. You rarely see cafe serving kangaroo meat, so if you are adventurous, definitely should try it.

#salmon on toast#-salmon sashimi served with toasts, poached eggs, smashed avocado, pickles, and jam. Eggs were poached nicely with really running egg yolk, the salmon sashimi was fresh. I loved the touch of pickles and sweet fig jam? ,which make the dish more interesting.
Mafarmer714
It was good, I had the minestrone soup of day which was nice and flavourful. A nice bit of chilli was served on the side which was a great addition.

Love the deco of this place! The staff are friendly and the food is healthy. I’m glad they support the motion to “Say no to plastic straws”!
They make cold pressed juices, that we can drink from a jar (that is then reused)! Today being a Sunday, lunch time, we waited close to 30min for food to arrive. But hubby and I loved it and we barely spoke as we enjoyed the meal! :)
Kyla Green
Stopped by here for brunch and the food was amazing! Despite feeling like eating something savoury, I opted for the GF Vegan waffles and they did not disappoint.

The service was quite good, and the food came within a matter of 10-15mins.
They offer a very decent variety of GF, DF, Vegan and Vegetarian. It was a little crowded at times but other than that, everything was perfect!

Nikhita Kotru
Went on a rainy day :( but thankfully the place was open ! Tried their berry smoothie which was soo yummy ! Didn’t really enjoy the matcha tea but everything else was perfect :)
Paula Mitchell
Had a great brunch with my husband. Food is amazing, atmosphere comfortable and food very good. One of the best hams we ever tried. We ordered the Croque madame and the breakfast tortilla but almost stay around for a second meal lol... definitely coming back next time in Melbourne.
Georgia Leech
This place is great! Right on the foreshore so very nice views. Busy but not too much so. We had the breakfast tortilla (very good and kept him full all day!) and two plates from their ‘make your own plate’ section. I loved this because I’m trying to eat low carb and it allowed me to have a yummy breakfast with out tempting toast on the plate. I had the mushrooms, ham and two eggs - a very generous serve and very tasty. Also the cold pressed juices are very nice.

I always love visiting some of Canberra's favourite eateries and checking out what they have to offer. We gave Local Press Cafe a shot on a Sunday at around midday - plenty of people were about and we waited in line for 10 or so minutes prior to been seated. I was pleased that we were able to score a table to ourselves, as the share table in the middle of the cafe didn't look very comfortable given the little space between customers (this is particularly uncomfortable for some). I thought the decor was really cool and the mood vibrant - it's generally a pleasant place to have breakfast. I was a little confused why such a popular cafe wouldn't offer table service - ordering at the counter is very old school and my opinion is it's well worth a popular cafe doing that little extra for their guests. The coffee was really nice. Whilst busy, the 55 odd minutes we had to wait for our breakfast is a tad long, especially considering we ordered eggs on toast and beetroot fritters. The food however was really nice. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the fritters were incredibly tastey. We were happy with our experience here - but whilst Local Press appear to do the most important things well, I thought the length of time we had to wait for our breakfast and the service were a little disappointing.

A friendly piece of advice for management - charging customers a 5% surcharge for paywave and credit card purchases on a weekend (2% during the week) is unnecessary. (Sorry to end on a negative note!)

Can't remember the names of the things we ordered but my date's soup was really yummy. I think it had lentil and winter vegetables. Very hearty and comforting.
Katglowa1
Good food. Bit of a queue. But I guess the quality dictates the queue. Good size portions. A good twist of the breakfast classics! Recommend the 'Cornish' sausage.

Great cafe in a beautiful location - very busy on a Sunday morning as expected and as most cafes in the area are. Beautifully presented meals - we were a bit disappointed that the menu online was different than the menu in store. We came specifically for their highly praised porridge, which was no longer on the actual menu. We tried their poached pear-apple crumble - which was a fancy deconstructed version of a homely dessert meal. Probably too fancy and sweet for breakfast. We also had amazing pork & bean and a poached egg (shakshuka-like) dish - this one was a winner!
Their meals were a generous serving and we'll be back to try their pancakes and standard-breaky-eggs meals ... and hopefully they'll bring back their porridge next winter!

Once in a while, on that special day when everything is perfect, you find that moment in life where everything feels right. That's what I felt eating these beetroot fritters! Holy crap I had a mouthgasm at this cafe in front if my cousin and his girlfriend and I wasn't even embarrassed.

The local press cafe sells wholefoods and targets the new hipster audience where eating sustainable and healthy is the goal. Obviously this does not mean you need to forgo eating delicious food, and this cafe has struck the right balance. This is a immensely busy waterfront cafe, we only had to wait 15 minutes for a table but the whole time we were eating there were people waiting in a long queue for a table. We were lucky enough to have good weather, so sat outside under the shade of umbrellas enjoying the sunny weather from the safely of shade.

I ordered the beet fritters with added salmon florette and a glass of their greens smoothie which on that day happened to be Rockmelon, banana, kale, Apple and ginger. The smoothie was okay and nothing to rave about but the fritters! Hold on to your socks, the combination of salmon, eggs, fritters, relish and goat's cheese will blow your mind! My cousin and I both ordered the fritters and we were both just amazed at the flavour.

The service was pretty interesting, they are run like an Asian cafeteria, you are allocated a seat, then once you've decided on your order you go to the cashier to place your order and pay, then collect your cutlery and water bottle and glasses if required. The food and drinks are brought to your table when ready. This doesn't detract from the experience but was just a novelty. Service as still good and the atmosphere was friendly and vibrant. If your looking for a place with awesome food where you can chat and catch up with friends, don't hesitate to check out the local press.

Great local cafe, fresh & bright. We stopped here for late lunch on a hot hot day. But you hardly feel the heat inside the cafe. Interesting decor filled with cute nik naks. The food were simple yet exciting. I had the chilli scrabble, essentially scrambled eggs with blue swimmer crab with the extra kick of chilli. The egg was smooth & there were a good chucks of crab. My friends were also happy with their duck salad (lean yet tender), and the 12 hours lamb shoulder on flat bread. The juices were very refreshing as well. All round great cafe, happy that we ventured out in the heat.

Nested in the middle of the Kingston Foreshore boardwalk, this local cafe offers a healthy, vibrant vibe to start the day. With lovely views across the lake, the menu exhibits mostly local fresh produce.

Service is order by the counter. Help yourself to the water bottle and cups. Fresh cold press (bottled) juices available for order alongside the usual coffee, tea and smoothies.

Available all day are breakfast and lunch options. The wild mushrooms a little greasy and slightly overdone. The granola and sago-chia pudding however was delightfully healthy and well presented with a medley of fresh fruits, coconut cream and mango sago pudding. Coffee is perfectly acceptable although not quite as robust in flavour or depth as another cafe 50m down the boardwalk. Beautifully peaceful weekday mornings, this place is a buzz of activity on weekends.

It's a little expensive, with additional surcharges for the weekend. But popular for a reason. A local go-to.
Jim
Great location, friendly staff and a comfortable establishment inside. Great for cyclist in passing to pull up and grab a coffee on their loop of Burley
Michele Walton
It’s good to try, but I think next time I’d go for the Wild Mushrooms sauteed in garlic, thyme and sage oil with pine nuts, almonds, meredith chevre, greens and poached egg on souorcough bread $19…. …or customise a meal with things like smoked trout $4.50, kale and almonds $3.50 and tomato and basil $3.50 that all comes with sourdough toast.

Local Press is very hipster, reminds me of being in Melbourne. I have been here a few times and have always enjoyed my breakfast and coffee. The green pancakes or the mushrooms are always my top choices. On a nice day, I like to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine and people watch.

A neat cafe tucked away in Kingstone. Food presented beautifully accompanied with fantastic service. Seating is limited so get to it quickly! 5% surcharge on weekends and 2% on credit card, so it can get pretty hefty but definite worth it!
Pagatha
Great waterfront spot with morning sun. Three delicious breakfasts - poached eggs with avo but the real standout dishes were the pea pancake with eggs and local mushrooms with eggs. Excellent coffee. Would highly recommend.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Great find. Located on the wharf on Kingston Foreshore. Great atmosphere, great food and great service made brunch a treat.
We had the green pea pancakes and the medley of tastes worked really well together and the gluten free waffles was delicious. They accommodate for lactose intolerance by leaving out the yoghurt.

Went to the local press for a lazy breakfast /brunch (lunch menu avail from 11am) with a group of mates who were all visiting Canberra. Everything we had was great a few of us went for the brekky menu (delicious wild mushroom, green pea pancake - pictured) and others went for lunch which from all accounts was just as good! Service was relatively quick and efficient with the only slight area the experience that could have been improved was the fact that we had to go up to make an order meaning all our food came out at different times, didn't help that the place was packed! All in all great spot and will definitely be paying it another visit when back in Canberra!

Absolutely appalling customer service! Drove 30 minutes to come to this cafe, and asked if we could wait for a table outside, to which the waiter replied sure, just grab a table when it pops up. Which is what we did after waiting for about 20 minutes, one table got taken, so we took another table, the same waiter came up and said, sorry you can't have that table, that's for 5 people. Good to see that money is more important to you then looking after your customers.
Eat Like Ushi
I wonder if the management has changed - I don't recognise any of the staff there currently. And the usual staple of the Green Breaky Plate no longer exists. Maybe just a sign of progression. What hasn't changed is the beautiful colours and presentation, not only of the food but the loosely nautical themed decor.
Rhianna Drinkall
Having been here once before, I had my expectations pretty high and today did not disappoint. Service was quick and friendly and the food was to die for! I had the green pea pancake and was absolutely in love before I had tasted it, which only made me fall for this meal even more. Definitely would recommend.

Local Press is great for breakfasts. We went on a weekday when it was a little quieter, but on weekends it's super busy. Our picks from our most recent visit were the waffles with butterscotch pears and the oat porridge. Both were delicious and very pretty to look at. Local Press do great coffees and juices too. Worth checking out.
Eat Canberra
I LOVE Local Press Cafe! It is one of my favourite places for breakfast in Canberra and I love bringing family and friends here when they visit from interstate. The food is always fresh, delicious, healthy and full of flavour. The use sustainable produce and often support good causes. I love the smoothies, juice, coffee, decor and the atmosphere too! It can get REALLY busy so the earlier you arrive the better. Definitely worth the wait if you have to wait though.
Twohappybellies
When twohappybellies decide to go on a weekend getaway, we are always searching for highly rated and recommended places to eat our next meal, so when choosing where to have brunch on a Saturday morning, the highly rated Local Press Café was an easy choice. Located on the bank of Lake Burley Griffin in Boat Harbour, Local Press Café enjoys a picturesque backdrop with wetlands and hills situated on the otherside of the lake. We arrived mid morning to a busy cafe but luckily did not have to wait too long for a table. Orders need to be placed at the counter although they do bring coffee and food out to the table.
Sarah Kegan
Sssssstonkingly good coffee. If you're after one near the Kingston foreshore/markets, the Local Press won't disappoint. Also tried the slices, which I can recommend. The look of the meals coming out as we waited in queue to order also looked delicious. The fact that the place is absolutely buzzing on a nice day says a lot.
Megan
Delicious whole foods! I had a berry and dragonfruit smoothie with seeds while I read my book. Was delicious and lasted a good while with good views of the lake and people watching as I drank. Returned for breakfast one morning to have the waffles - extremely tasty and filling, would definitely recommend! The waffles seemed to be made of almost an orange and poppy seed muffin texture that went perfectly with the fresh fruit. Service was also quick and friendly. Couldn't recommend more highly!
Caitlyn McKenzie
We stopped in for drinks Gavin seen the queue out the door for brekky the previous weekend. Would love to go back for food, but drinks were just fine. The chai was not my favourite blend ever, and the juices for which it is named were fresh and mildly interesting but not blow-your-mind.
E
Didn't have to wait for long despite what looked like a full house. Came here for a weekend brunch and food was great. Good portions and was full of flavour. I like how their fresh juices were pre packaged in cute glass bottles and ready to go. On another note, service wasn't the best. Rushed seating, no explanation on how to order and was not handed a menu. The waiter also tried to clear my plate before I had finished. Overall a good experience though.
Rosie Posie
This popular cafe was worth the short wait we had this morning. Food was interesting and very generous. If you are not too hungry I definitely recommend sharing one of the brunch dishes. We had a dukkah egg, kale, quinoa, fetta dish which was lovely and arrived quickly. Pay at the counter deal. Great location next to the lake. We had to wait abiut 10 min at 9.30 on a Sunday so I think getting there early is a good idea - I imagine the wait at 11am would be long!
UnCovered Oz
Had my first brunch here today. Will definitely be going back again. Delicious food with quality fresh ingredients. Lovely drinks and a great location. Good prices too.
Jenny Nguyen
I think this has to be one of my favourite cafes. It is such a shame that it is so far from where I live! My cousin and I were on the hunt for a good meal to start off the day as we were road tripping threw the area at the time and discovered this joint. The decor is very hip and colourful and the staff were very friendly. We didn't know that we had to order at the counter so we waited a while before asking a waiter. The coffee was great and the food was not only delicious but presented so beautifully on the plate. I would definitely come back the next time I find myself down there!
Ausbeagle
Service is good and I like the menu but I'd like to see a better range of options (like some porridge etc) and more juices. The meals are good portions and the food is fresh but it's a bit bland and unimaginative. The eggs I had were flavourless and runny and the toast was inedible as it was cooked to the point of being a crostini. Service is friendly, nice interior, good to see the healthy trend moving into Canberra. I'll be back to try other things.
Charu Pandey
The green beakky plate was excellent and a really good proportion for breakfast. The lemon and orange juice was a nice change the staple orange juice.
Really liked the atmosphere of the place. It is really difficult to find a spot so be early if you're going in a large group.
Neil The Foodie
Excellent in a word! Picked to go here for a nice breakfast this morning and it is , I would say, the best I have had. Poached eggs on 10 seed bread, mushroom with a little avo on the side and with very nice, hot coffee. Very nice quirky seating on the water front, Canberra's no smoking laws at eating places are fantastic, it was nice to actually be able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather without having to put up with dirty disgusting inconsiderate selfish smokers blowing their toxic cloud over everyone! Definitely give this a try if you are in Canberra.
Adventures In Winterland
I usually stick to the breakfasty items on the menu at Local Press, but this visit was definitely at lunchtime, so I ventured into the actual lunch offerings. I was tempted by the kangaroo sirloin, but being a warm day decided for the cooler salad option – a soy ginger chicken and black sesame Vietnamese salad. The plate came out and I was impressed with the vibrant colours – getting stuck in, the salad was just as fresh as it looked. The snowpeas, capsicum and broccoli were all

Nice place to have a breakfast or brunch with family and friends. Very nice dishes and drinks. Great view in the front, good selfie place.
But it's very hard to find a carpark on weekend, better to be there earlier.
Alexandra Co-Da
Great indoor and outdoor seating options. Food took a while but was delicious when it arrived. Tastes amazing and healthy. More on the pricier side for brunch but an amazing place to soak up the Kingston sunshine ☀️
Mk
VERY poor customer service!! We were shoved to the side to wait for a table and as the tables became vacant they seated customers who had just arrived. You would think that we would be priority seeing as though we had already ordered, payed and received a table number... As a table became vacant we went to seat ourselves down and got told rudely by the staff that we had to be on the waiting list and they seated another family who had just arrived!!!! What waiting list? We had already purchased our meals!! ... why were you seating customers who had just arrived instead of seating the customers who have already purchased your food and received a table number?!
Sarah Nicole Jesudason
A fantastic menu with so many delicious and tasty healthy options. The coffee is always delightful, and I can't forget the amazing juices! Kinda annoying that there isn't table service, but it's worth it!
Hedda Waddington
Having seen Local Press Cafe featured on Sydney Weekender I was keen to give a try, we were not disappointed. The Daal by Dhaval was delicious as was the Spiced Pumpkin & Lentil Bowl. The only 'gripe' the Spiced Pumpkin came cold and being a blustery winters day this was disappointing.
Jan Dalley
Been many times and always good. This weekend however for the first time I was informed that a surcharge of 2% would be added to every transaction using an EFTPOS CARD that is MY money NOT a credit card??? Why?
This is price gouging and just plain greedy.
I would add there is NO signage to indicate this, so too late to change your mind really once you've waited in line and ordered. Will be boycotting I think it's not the only good eatery in the area Kingston village has some great places and worth the short walk from the Foreshore.
Michele Walton
Local Press along the Kingston Foreshore, must be one of Canberra’s nicest spots for brunch with it’s sunny views of the waterfront and promenade and it’s interesting menu, accessories and decor. The coffee is good and the dishes are beautiful and well sized for sharing, especially the fruit toast with ricotta.
Brian Eats
What a great concept. Fresh juice, healthy yet interesting meals, and wonderful decor and atmosphere. They've recently launched a new Winter menu but have retained the Green Pea Pancake which is to die for. Look no further if you're after a quality meal down at Kingston Foreshore without breaking the bank.
Janine Bennett
Delicious, inventive, fresh, healthful food. High on comfort, low on guilt. Great way to start a Saturday. (Busy on the weekends, but definitely worth the wait!)
Ash
I have been there 4 times and for the last 3 times the staff have left us waiting by the railing for a table whilst they continue to seat other guests. Poor service!
Pip.abbott1603
Pip, Sydney. The salad with chargrilled corn was one of the nicest salads I have ever eaten, if not the nicest.
Ryan
Good food for a great price, super healthy whole food style, so if you're into that this is a great place to go.
Kym
Healthy and delicious. Fantastic, fresh, healthy food and absolutely huge serves! The prices seem a little high, especially when you have to order at the counter and get yourself water and cutlery, but the food is definitely worth it. Nice location and the food is beautifully presented. Cakes look amazing too - I've always been too full after a meal to try them but will make sure I drop in for coffee and cake sometime soon.
Damienvictorsen
Inefficient ordering system. This cafe has great food in a great setting. However, since I was here last they have changed the ordering system so that guests now have to cue up to order and pay up front. At busy times you can be waiting quite w while. I think this place needs to re-gain some class and provide full pay at the table service. Shame
Rachel_mei
Long wait, great food. We had to wait a little longer than average but it was worth it. The Summer menu lunchtime salads have a great balance of flavours, with a Middle Eastern influence. Definitely worth getting one of the meat choices as an add-on.

Got a mocha for a coffee, came quickly and had a nice interesting spice taste.
Liam Styles
Terrific!. Great coffee, and excellent food / juices. Love the menu, if you are there for breakfast definitely try the green pea pancake with eggs!
Mazmcgreal64
Great experience. In Looking for somewhere to have a chat and something healthy for lunch we tried the Local Press cafe. What a find.
Perfect service, great views, amazing food and taste sensation- the pumpkin and roasted beetroot salad was excellent.
I hesitate to mention this cafe as I'm sure it's going to get busier and busier--- big thanks to Oliver and the smiling staff at THE LOCAL PRESS CAFE.
Jen.jen7242
Gum leaf salad. I really want to like this Local Press Cafe. Great location, nice fit out, interesting menu. But every time I go am underwhelmed by the service... Verging on rude/apathetic and usually long waits for food or coffee. The last time I got a salad to take away halfway through eating found a gumleaf mixed in!
Happy Moments
Great Brekky cafe. Happy new find in Kingston quay area!. What a great little cafe! Go there - you'll love it. Good food. Good coffee, friendly waiters, interesting decor, nice view. Very inviting when you are walking along the quay. Sunny spot, with eclectic chairs and tables, plants etc. (even a happy dog, sitting under the table with water bowl provided at the side).
After having walked past another very sterile industrial looking cafe first, I'm glad we found this one!
As it was a bit breezy outside, so we decided to sit inside.
We were immediately greeted by a pleasant young man (who looked like Reece Mastin) and picked our own table.
Funky distressed walls and wooden furniture, open light globes, a very cool interior.
Admittedly it was 10am on Friday morning and we decided just to go for coffee on the new quay waterfront area at Kingston. But when I saw the menu, I had to have the poached eggs on Rye with Ham and Avocado. We both had coffee that came with a cute little piece of paper that described how the coffee was made and where it came from. The ham was SO good, with perfect runny eggs. Rye toast was a bit hard, but the avocado and pea sprouts were a yum addition. Coffee was lovely. Maurice, the friendly waiter came and told us about how the coffee was made, when we asked about it. He's obviously dedicated to making the coffee as good as he can, trying it every morning and modifying the ratios, to be consistent and enjoyable coffee for his customers.
Lots of people came in later in the morning. An obviously popular place. (I overheard a woman say "This is my favourite place at the moment"
Other choices of food seemed healthy and appealing.
Just a bit different from other cafes. Price was middle of the road, but quality is high.
Our experience was such a pleasant surprise. We'll be back soon! ;-)

OK food and meh coffee. Not worth the hype. Went to Local Press cafe for breakfast over the weekend and can't say that I was overly impressed. The food was OK, nothing to write home about and the service was, hmmm to describe in one word, annoying. I ordered the green brekky (not the one with the pancakes) and it seems like the chef simply threw on the plate a few items with no thought given to whether they worked together. I was meant to have zataar (maybe dukkah) eggs and yet I couldn't taste any of the spice mix. On its own each component was great, avo, fetta, kale etc., although given none of these ingredients were produced in store, they cannot take credit for it.Try tasting more than one component and it is just weird, one always overpowering the others. My partner had the ham, egg and toast and that's what he got - ham and egg with insufficient toast. Coffee was meh. Next time, I'll just stick to good ol' faithful ONA cafe in Fyshwick. Also, they sweets are ridiculously priced - $6-$7 for banana bread and brownies...wtf. There was nothing to say that the ingredients were locally sourced or were organic, so why the high prices?

Really Really Good Coffee & Juice. Possibly the best coffee i have ever had, the juice is awesome, not that cheap but you can taste why, it is full of good stuff! Food is also extremely tasty, took little while to come out (it was a packed saturday) but the staff were onto it an brought us some more coffee on the house. I think this is my new favourite cafe in canberra, the vibe and fitout is awesome, also full of MILF's.

Funky tea cosies. Yummy salads and friendly service. Dined here for an impromptu Saturday lunch. The salads were delicious, reasonably priced and did not skimp on ingredients. Teapot comes with a funky tea cosy. Staff were super friendly. Try it out!

Good food, decent coffee, pleasant but unorganised service. Had an unnecessary wait of about 30 minutes as the host was overwhelmed with seating a large group of us (7 pax). Rather than just move some tables together he set his hopes that a group of 3 would leave a large outside table.

Upon finally being seated, the service was prompt up until meal delivery, where one of our party inexplicably waited an extra 10-15 minutes for his food to be served. The staff offered no explanation for this, but were polite and apologetic.

The coffee was decent and the food was fresh and flavoursome. I will be going back to try again, but with a smaller group and during a less busy time of day.

Excellent fresh inventive food, highly recommend visiting this establishment. Fantastic service to boot

Great, but often busy. Visited here a few weeks ago to try the coffee and green juice and loved it. Service was reliable even though it was busy, the only problem is I've tried to return two separate weekends since and there's been a considerable line and forced to go somewhere else, the lesson is get in early I guess or prepare to wait a little while.

The best coffe and food. Local press has the best coffe and food that I ever have tried. It is fantastic, and it has a good environment, the service is so great. I am sure I will come back always again.

Dropped in for lunch after 2 family members were recently put on quite challenging food restrictions. What a great find. Several choices on the menu which met the restrictions. Woohoo! Food came quickly.... Woohoo again! Presentation was very inviting and both dishes were seriously yummy. Woohoo a third time. Tea in teapots with tea cosies...woohoo one more time. Only downside is that we live at the opposite end of town - about as far away as possible. But it is such a great find it is worth driving the distance. We will definitely be back!

❤️ this local cafe of ours! We're fortunate enough to live close by & frequent this place who successfully serves up great food, ambience & a crew of professional & über friendly staff. Breakies & lunches are deviously healthy & hearty. Even my lil' one looks forward to the treats & cuddles from Jamie...

Thanks Local Press - you are our fav hangout!

What a find! We heard from friends about this new spot that has recently opened on the new development on the kingston foreshore. We came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was full with no spare seats, upon entering a waiter asked if we were looking for a seat and told us to hold tight while he organised a table. I thought this was extremely courteous and professional as they were busy yet he took the time to arrange a table for us. We ordered the green breaky plate and pea pancake and 2 of their cold pressed juices, we were given a run down on the whole foods aspect of this cafe and the method of juicing they use which was a very nice touch. The food was outstanding! Being a self proclaimed foodie I have never really quite ate a dish like the greens breaky plate and was a little sceptical but was amazed at the quality and freshness also the balance of flavours was spot on! We had coffee and a chocolate brownie after our meals and was a very nice way to finish up a great experience. If you haven't been yet make sure you check it out! Definitely my new weekend hang out.

New Favourite. After only a week on the Canberra cafe scene this little gem on the kingston foreshore has made a big impact. Focussing on whole foods and cold pressed juices, Local Press hits all the right notes for me. Coffee was smooth and I love that they use Bonsoy. The daily green juice was perfect, not too sweet and a great balance of flavours. And then come the Babagounsh on Sourdough, a great combination of flavours and at $12.50 it is fantastic value. So nice to see a place that is passionate about providing customers with quality food at reasonable prices. The interior is perfect and I can definitely see myself coming here a lot.

Unique and delicious menu, good coffee and friendly staff. Our food was a little slow to come out but the staff acknowledged the delay and took our coffees off the bill... cheers!

Local Press Cafe has been quite popular since its opening and I watched blogger after blogger write about it before I made it over there last month. I’ve delayed writing it up for a while, perhaps because it didn’t excite me as much as I hoped it would. Everything was really good and fresh, but breakfast isn’t really my meal. However, there was one thing I really thought was worth mentioning so I decided to write a short post after all. Here are my abbreviated thoughts: I don’t know what about green juice is so appealing but for some reason, the combination of kale, celery, other green things, and apple really does work. Coffees were solid. I got the green breaky plate, which included za’atar covered eggs (I love this spice, could have gone with more) over quinoa tabouleh (excellent) with dill yoghurt (awesome, really brought the dish together). Boyfriend got the open salmon sandwich. I don’t eat salmon so I can’t comment on that, but Boyfriend didn’t seem overly wowed. But for me, the absolute stand out of the whole meal was the sourdough bread that the salmon was served on. It might be the best sourdough I’ve ever had. The experience mostly left me with the impression that I have to go check out A. Baker (which provides the baked goods), rather than the need to return to Local Press. Local Press Menu Local Press Green Juice ($7) – apple, kale, celery, lemon, cucumber and parsley juice Latte Long Black w/ cold milk on the side (in a cute bottle!) Salmon & eggs sandwich ($14) – w/ dill yoghurt, chilli jam, baby spinach, truss tomato, lemon & cracked pepper

It’s full of energy and has a great atmosphere. It would be lovely in sunny weather as it’s nice to sit out alongside the lake…. and the coffee is good.

The Green Breaky Plate $18 (Za’atar coated hard-boiled eggs, kale, almonds, avocado, quinoa tablouleh, asparagus, dill yogurt and feta) had lovely flavours. It’s quite light so good for eating lean, but not so good for sharing.

The food is beautifully presented and complements the waterside view (not the best but I'll take it) and general people watching:

The new summer menu is out with a new addition for brekky – the pancake of wholemeal oats, banana and coconut with fresh seasonal fruits, mint and whipped mascarpone ($18). I love pancakes! And with a wholemeal oat pancake, I can be a little bit healthier.

I was pretty surprised when I first saw the menu. It was really simple, they only had four choices all of which were quite clean and green. Not that this was a bad thing or anything.

Local Press is known for its cold pressed juices so I can’t go past the apple, kale, celery, lemon, cucumber and parsley juice for $7. It comes out in a cute bottle – which gets a good shake – and a straw. Apple & kale juice with flat white It’s cliche: I do feel healthier for drinking it. But I also feel conflicted because I really feel like I could have a second one, but would that make it too much of a good thing (or unhealthy?). I decide against it. Boyfriend is a little disappointed with his coffee, which he describes at lukewarm.

This morning Bron suggested breakfast at Local Press on the Kingston Foreshore. She was going for a bike ride around there and we could meet at 8 for a bite to eat. This morning was bright clear and fresh. Local Press opens on weekends at 8 am but there was activity inside and outside prior to 8. The menus are available on the tables and once you’ve made a choose you order and pay at the counter inside. Bron was interested in one of the Local Press juice drinks and enjoyed an orange, carrot and turmeric root juice, which she said was very refreshing. The available other selections included a green drink with kale, celery, banana and spirulina the other was a coconut and passionfruit based concoction.
My beveridge needs focused purely on coffee. I like the way the cups and saucers are colour coordinated.
The sugar bowls look good on the distressed dining tables.

If it wasn't obvious, I adore Local Press Cafe already. The healthy and wholefood dominant menu might not be everyone's thing but I'm well and truly sold on this concept. The ambiance of the cafe is inviting and relaxing and add the water views and the attitude-free staff to the equation means I will definitely be a regular. As I said, Local Press is still in it's infancy so if a slightly longer than average wait for your food is likely to annoy you or if you are in a hurry, I would suggest that you give the cafe a few weeks to find it's feet and for the hype to settle down. But if like me, you believe wholesome and delicious food served with big smiles is worth the wait, go now!

After my first visit to Local Press in Kingston, I was kicking myself for not discovering this gorgeous cafe earlier. I was impressed immediately by the decor as I entered the cafe. The rustic and creative furniture complements the artfully distressed walls to create a very funky vibe. Cute cushions, cool knick knacks and nautical-themed accents adorn the cafe.

Initially, A and I sat outside in the sun but we ended up moving inside a little later. The outdoor area looks out on the Kingston Foreshore and on our visit, the weather was sunny and bright – making it a perfect spot for getting some Vitamin D. However, the interior design inside is stunning, with wooden furniture, exposed brick walls, subtle pieces of colour and an open kitchen. I now understand why I’ve seen so many pictures of the interior – it is very photogenic. Our first point of call was to order coffee – both in mugs. The coffee has a slight earthy taste and there are subtle chocolate tones to the beans. Regardless, the co
