Review The East Kitchen - Canberra

Bravo 2Zero
his is is a very underrated restaurant and deserves to be getting a lot more custom. We were a party of ten people and sampled many of their dishes and can only say it was the best Chinese food we have enjoyed. Personally the Crispy Fish fillets in Honey Pepper sauce was the best of the best although I have to say even the Fried Rice was better than any I have experienced. A honourable mention goes to the spring rolls which were moist inside and crispy but not tough outside. Don’t be put off by the basic interior the couple that run it are genuine and try to please. It took them a long time to deliver all the food but every dish was sensational. We highly recommend over the many better known restaurants in Dickson

We had the most wonderful meal at The East Kitchen. The food was incredible (best Chinese I have ever tasted!), very reasonably priced, and all homemade with love. The highlight though was the amazing service - the staff are kind, polite, and clearly care a lot about their customers and the food they cook. We will absolutely be going back and making it our regular spot.

Excellent service, the family who own the place are beautiful people and love to chat. They are so humble and they offer a huge range of Asian cuisine. The food is made with love, and you can certainly tell. I’d recommend to anyone.

Lovely food and owners. Everything tasted so fresh and authentic (we had the lemongrass king prawn, clay pot mushroom and tofu, BBQ pork buns and special fried rice). Will definitely be coming back. Thank you for the memorable hospitality!

We read the menu on the wall and decided there was a huge choice and a lot of dishes we liked so we walked in. The smells captivated our senses and sweet lady who took our order was an absolute delight. She gave us great advice and was open and honest when we asked what she would recommend. We are so glad we took her up on her recommendation and ordered the rice dish we’d never heard of. Great food at great prices!!

A family run restaurant tucked away in a corner in Dickson. The food is Chinese with a Hong Kong influence. Food is really delicious and the service is very good. Do yourself a favour and try the food and support a family run business that is struggling to survive. Highly recommend the food and service.

Love this place, the produce and flavours are always so fresh and high quality - you can taste the care and effort that goes into every dish. Absolutely delicious pork buns, and the best prawns you'll get anywhere. Update - The silver thread loaf in chili flavour is a must try, it's the most delicious street style food you will ever eat and so flavoursome - make sure they show you how to eat it though! Try a weeknight as it can get busy on weekends 👍

Unbelievable, by far the best food I have ever eaten. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Wow this was the best Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in Dixon ACT. The service was so good. The food so fresh. Try the Shredded Beef, Pork Buns, Sang Chou Bao different and amazing. Honey prawn to die for never my favourite but it is now from The East Kitchen. Steamed Ginger Fish, Mongolian Lamb and Kung Po Chicken. So good

The best Chinese food in Canberra. The ambience is nothing amazing and I admittedly have walked past before. Will never do again. Staff are amazing and extremely personable. It will not disappoint. The best Chinese I have ever had and best experience :-). A Must go to. Can't wait to go back soon.

Incredible food and beyond incredible customer service. This is not your cookie cutter Chinese- they are all about quality of their food. This is a family owned business run by three people only- brother, sister and uncle. First time eating traditional Hong Kong style dishes and they give great advice. Rebecca is incredible!!!! We will be back again and again!!!!

Easily the best Chinese food we've had in Canberra! The food and service is amazing and we can't wait to go back :)

Very great place to eat and the food is fantastic

Wow. The food quality is amazing. Seriously this place you have to try. The service is great and host brilliant. The prices are really good compared to what I’m used to in Geelong/Melbourne. It’s BYO booze so take something if you want booze. Otherwise it’s a one of the best. 👍

Easy to walk past this place, but I guarantee you won't do it again once you've sampled the amazing food. Hong Kong influenced food fused with traditional Chinese cooked by a former 5 star chef. Definitely worth a go!

Hands down the best chinese i have ever tasted! (i have eaten my fair share of chinese from all over). The food is just impeccable as the chef is amazing. Dont judge a book by its cover and give it a try.

I don't normally leave reviews, but i had such a great experience last night. Came in with a mate and decided to try somewhere new in Dickson. We were the only customers for the night(which i couldn't believe considering the portions and quality of food!). The lady who served us was an absolute gem and the food was delicious. Will be back. Support local business! x

I can't recommend this place enough. It's like a hidden treasure in Canberra. On the surface it looks pretty ordinary but the food is incredible and consistently so. Always fresh. Everyone I've ever taken there is in agreement. Best value in the area too, IMHO. BTW I'm writing this review because I think they should be busier than they are. I strongly encourage everyone to go there.

So happy to have found this restaurant tonight. Food was delicious! And the service fantastic. Lovely staff took the time to try and teach my children to use chopsticks. Highly recommended!

Don’t let the restaurant’s modest appearance fool you, this little gem serves beautiful food every time and is run by the most humble family who are appreciative of every customer who walks in the door. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say the East Kitchen serves the best Chinese food in Canberra!
Le Soumi
Without a doubt, the best Chinese in Canberra. The dumpling soup is phenomenal

I am a regular at East Kitchen. The food is always excellent. It is family run and the service is always friendly, helpful and genuine. I would also recommend their takeaway service if you are running late from work or busy with studies.

It was late on a sat night and I was looking for a place to eat. I saw the restaurant was open and decided to give it a go. The super friendly and patient staff explained some of the dishes I was keen on. I tried the chicken chow mein that was recommended by the sweet old lady owner. The food was very good and portions were large as well. A positive experience and must visit!! :)

I've been looking online for a chinese restaurant with good reviews, i found the best reviews on The East Kitchen and decided to try.
It's not a big restaurant and not luxury appearance but it's clean, offering a great costumer service and OMG all these years thinking I've been eating good chinese food till now, after having dinner with my wife i couldn't believe how amazing this place is, every plate we ordered was provided with decent portion, well presented and superb flavour balance, totally impressed, it's a pity that some small restaurants don't get discovered by many people.
Definitely a restaurant to keep in mind

Wow what a little treat! This place was near empty but undeservingly so. Excellent Chinese food, very affordable, and service was top notch. Definitely will be coming back. Best chicken chow mein in Canberra!
Rachel
A great lesson not to judge a book by its cover! This restaurant may not be much to look at but the food is outstanding. Great variety, very high quality and generous servings of fresh ingredients at very reasonable prices. This place deserves to be packed every night. Friendly and helpful team. We really enjoyed the Mongolian Threaded Lamb with Silver Thread Loaf was brilliant and their fried rice was world class.

With amazingly welcoming staff, a friendly warm atmosphere and subtly flavoured, delicious food, it's a great place to go to and eat at! You can easily miss it because the location isn't great, hidden in the corner of Dickson, but it's well worth the effort to find.

East Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant nestled in the back corner of the home of Chinese restaurants, Dickson and this hidden location has lead to it being really quiet most nights.

Truth be told, the reason we ended up eating here was mainly because it was so empty. My policy is that we shouldn’t be so quick to write off places that don’t have a ton of people, there are so many awesome places that are almost empty all the time (see Tutto Continental) and there are many average places that are always full (see Sammy’s Kitchen).

With that in mind, here is our night at East Kitchen!

What a gem. Outstanding Hong Kong style food in a quiet spot. Chef worked five star hotels before coming to Australia and brings a breath of fresh air to food in Dickson. Try the light as air pancake, brilliant steamed fish fillet, and other great dishes. Always tables here and the service is great.

Seriously good Chinese food that may take a while to arrive.. I ate here on two successive nights with a friend. We tried the pork bun, steamed pork dumplings, vegetarian hot pot, lamb with shallots and a sichuan chicken dish. The entrees, a good test of overall quality because they are ubiquitous, were of the highest standard you will find in this price bracket in Australia, on par with the best of Singaporean street food. The hot pot was flavourful and a wondrous combination of thickly reduced broth, suggesting a long cooking time, and deep-green, just-steamed vegetables suggesting a short one. Because it is a one-man show in the kitchen, waiting times can be longer than the type of restaurant might lead you to expect. But it will be worth the wait. Strongly recommended.

Easily some of the best food in Canberra. I've been going to this place for at least 10 years and am compelled to encourage as many people as I can to try it. It doesn't look like much, it's just a very humble operation run by some really nice people from Hong Kong and the food is always amazing. They haven't let me down once.

The food isn't like classic Chinese. They do the usual favourites but the curries are incredible and not like anything I've had elsewhere.

Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Awesome Chinese Food. Me and my girlfriend have been to this place 3 times now, the food gets better every time. Their beef in plum sauce was amazing, recommend this place strongly, the menu is long with plenty of good choices and the service is extra friendly. Try it!!!
