Review Beef And Barley - Canberra

Great cocktails which were reasonably priced. The meals were delicious, up there in price but worth it. Full of flavour. It wasn't too busy when we went so managed to get a great seat.

We went there tonight with my 4 years old, ordered chicken bites and chips for him. The chicken bites where seasoned with way too much black pepper, and rosemary (and chicken salt), chips were the same. It was offered as one of the kids menu items... I guess the chef doesn't have any kids because I am yet to find a kid that loves black pepper and rosemary!. The Halloumi bites were really nice, the service was good, the Shiraz was not good. I am not an expert in wine but I've been drinking Shiraz for ages and I know when a bottle has been opened for way too long. The waitress said they didn't have salads because of the price of lettuce, but she was very nice en checked with the kitchen, they said yes... They charged us $20 for a plate that had rocket, mushy pumpkin and pepitas. Absurd!!! Sorry but it was not a good experience.

Front of house let this experience down. Burgers were tasty, but being told that we should order quickly as there was a table of 15 coming in and they couldn't promise speedy service if they arrived before we ordered. WHAT?? The pompousness and irritation of being politely hassled spoiled our dining experience. I would also like to note that our table of 3 had been booked and we hadn't just wandered in. Note to front of house each and every guest is just as important as your table of 15. I wouldn't go back here.

This place served me the worst steak I have ever eaten. It was supposed to be an eye fillet, which it clearly wasn’t, and for $35 I got a lower than cheap pub quality pile of gristle. Chips were cold and tasteless. Absolutely stay away. Manager: We ordered Thursday evening. Steak wasn’t scotch fillet either…large portions of it were inedible due to the amount of gristle. It was ordered medium rare and was brown all the way through.

I booked my sister’s hens here for burger high teas and we all had such a wonderful time! The food is delicious and the staff are so lovely. Can’t wait to come back.

There was no customers here when we arrived and yet it took forever to make waffles and by that time my hot coffee was stone cold. The food was average.

Great, service and good portion sizes,Mike was very inviting and helpful.

Burgers were small, extremely dry, and cold… we were a table of 4, it was Monday, the store was quite empty and: Almost 40 minutes to get the burgers!..despite the fact that the staff was very kind the burgers ware very poor for a 26 dollar burgers. I suggest the owners to visit a couple of burger places in Canberra, they will probably see how far they are in quality from the top places.

Just had burger high tea for my birthday. BRILLIANT. Pulled pork burger and beef burger were excellent. The dessert plate was to die for! Highly recommended!!!

I can not recommend this place more. It was fantastic. Food was excellent, they catered for all dietary requirements. The owners and staff were fantastic, very welcoming. I will be back. Loved it. Thanks so much.

I’ve been here before and it was previously amazing. However dined tonight on the First Table 50% off food deal and still didn’t really end up with what I consider value for money for dry beef patties on a burnt bun with chopped cabbage with a squirt of mayo on top... unfortunately I won’t be back

We have been wanting to try this eatery out so what better than a lazy lunch? The service was good, the menu had sufficient variety - I selected the special of the day and it was most enjoyable, a steak burger with a simple tasty slaw and seasoned chips, 'paired' with a brown ale! A winner! The calamari burger was tasty but I thought a little light on calamari for the price, everything else was fine. Worth a try.

Food was good but could of been more for $40 per person. In terms of value for money that needs a bit of work. No issues with staff or premises just needed a bit more food. Will go back for sure!

I am so incredibly impressed by the customer service of the lovely staff at Beef & Barley. I met with one of my mummy friends today with our 5 month old little squishs. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, ensuring that both us and our bubs were happy. The burgers were delicious too. I am just blown away and would recommend to anyone. It is especially hard to find places that are this supportive of customers with little ones. So thank you so much. You are absolute bloody legends.

Had a big group (34people) for a party. Some for the High tea, some ordered off the menu. The staff were friendly and accommodating of such a large group. The food was AMAZING. We will be coming back again

Always so impressed by the lovely, friendly staff and service. New to Canberra and the foreshore, Beef and Barley has quickly become our go to for everything from great coffee through to afternoon cocktails and delicious hamburgers paired with craft beers. The ambience, complete with a vast array or games for all, is very welcoming and feels like a second home. Keep up the great work guys - it's really appreciated.

Absolutely love it, thoroughly enjoyed my burger would definitely recommend.

Shut your mouth and take all my money!!!! Had a burger high tea and it was delicious! Do yourself a favour and smash a feed here!

We were told to leave a table before the last person had received their food because there was a booking coming in 25 mins time. We had a table of 20+ and we were basically told to finish up with a full bottle of wine and drinks half drunk. Rude staff, especially the manageress, food not bad, but definitely would not recommend and won’t be back to suffer bad service at expensive prices!

Great burger great atmosphere, i really think they have nailed the taste. I have been at least once every week since they opened and the service, quality and consistency has just keeps getting better. The only thing that i would have love is to be able to order burgers by themselves without chips/slaw, other than that i highly recommend going Beef and Barley for delicious burgers!!!

My first visit, had the Uncle Sam burger. Bloody awesome meal, the beer battered chips and sweet slaw complement the burger perfectly. I'll definitely be back again

I booked four of us into Beef & Barley’s Burger High Tea a few weeks ago. There was a half-price deal available on Cudo (it might still be available) so I figured it was the perfect time to try it out. The burger high tea comes with one beer/wine/soft drink/milkshake per person. Two x three-tiered stands arrived at our table, giving two people a stand to share.

The burgers are very good. Uncle Sam is one of the top in Canberra. I have had them many times and have never had a bad meal here. It is exxy for the size but the burger high tea deal off of scoupon was good value (half price), I wouldn't pay full price for it though unless I wanted the unlimited drinks package. All in all, worth trying if you're sick of Brod and live in Kingston area.

Relaxed friendly service, cruisey family-friendly vibe , and part of the action at the waterfront. Great to be able to have a beer, with your kids happy and enjoy the water views, a few steps away from the main hustle bustle. Food was well balanced, not too salty, generous portions and nicely presented. Will be back !

What can I say, please do yourself a favor and order the Miss Piggy! What a burger that is. I was recommended to pair it with a cloudy apple cider and what a magical combination it was. The food was so good, I didn't even notice the decoration of the restaurant or the staff service. You can also get the burger as a take away and eat it along the river you're keen.

Beef & Barley has supremely delicious burgers that are genuinely good - as opposed to the over hyped averageness of the so-called 'best burger joint in Canberra'.
In fact we'd suggest Beef and Barleys burgers are the best we've had in Canberra. It's also in a way nicer location and you don't have to order your burger 50minutes in advance!
Super friendly and attentive staff too. Definitely in the top ranks of burger joints in town.
Clean The Plate
The Kingston Foreshore now has a range of restaurants available. It can be a pleasant place to dine but parking can be a little difficult. The Beef and Barley is situated on the Kingston Foreshore so it has a view of the water and a nice breeze. The restaurant has an order and pay at the counter system and the staff seem nice.

Best burger, fries and slaw I've had in a long time. I had the Hen Pen burger (grilled chicken, lettuce, bacon, avocado, feta) - perfectly balanced, plenty of toppings and a soft bun. Will be back for sure!

Had a fantastic tasty burger and beer battered chips with a slaw to die for on the side. One of the best I have had in a long time.
The staff were friendly and super attentive without stalking.

Solid lunch.

We rocked up on a busy Saturday lunchtime and were offered a bar seat inside or brave the cold outside. We chose outside and the staff went out of their way to move heaters and offer blankets which was very considerate.

The food is pricey but for the quality and location it isn't a worry for us. You're on the Kingston foreshore - if you're expecting cheap eats that's your problem.

This was our second visit, the first was enough to bring us back. First time around my fiancé tried the Uncle Sam and would have gone for a second had his stomach capacity not made that impossible. I had the El Pedro which was delicious - the honey goats cheese and mildly spicy chorizo perfect with a nice light cider.

Second time around my fiancé got the Hen Pen which was chock full of avocado, which is an instant winner for him, plus extra tasty streaky bacon.

I had the Miss Piggy which flavour wise was amazing but I might reserve for summer next time around as the condiments make it less 'wholesome winter burger' than some of the other options. That is in no way a negative to the burger - just to the weather.

All burgers are served with quirky and delicious slaw and extra crunchy (perfect!) spiced chips. Fiancé prefers plain chips but he is wrong. These are the best.

The food brought us back and the atmosphere/staff will continue to bring us back many more times to come! Delicious!
Eat Canberra
I love a good burger and we make pretty delicious burgers at home so I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to eating burgers out! Yesterday I finally made it to Beef & Barley where I ordered the Uncle Sam burger. This is a beef burger with bacon, fried onion, cheddar, house BBQ sauce, mustard mayo and picked. It was super tasty and the bun was so perfect! The burgers are served with fries and coleslaw and they have a range of chicken, vegetarian, seafood and some other burgers on offer. They also open for breakfast! They're located on the Kingston Foreshore and there's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.
Adventures In Winterland
My last visit to Beef & Barley was just after they had opened, so when I popped by for a solo dinner, I was excited to see that the menu had evolved and grown. Unable to resist the lure of a beef burger with chorizo, I ordered the Atomic Boss ($18.50), with fried onion, smoked mozzarella, pickles, tomato relish, rocket and a choice of house BBQ or ‘fire’ sauce (I went for BBQ). All burgers come with a side of sweet coleslaw and beer-battered chips, and I was delighted to see that they’ve wound back the sugar on the chips, compared to my last visit. The slaw was crunchy and covered in a creamy (thousand island?) dressing, which helped cut through the richness of the burger. Whilst not the most glamorous thing to eat, the burger was utterly delicious – I LOVED the

OK - its a big call but this is the best burger I have had in my life. I had the American and the other half had the pulled pork. Served with excellent chips and coleslaw. Outstanding. Again, should be busier - I just don't understand eating out in Canberra. All the completely shite places like Walter and Burnley and that sports pub on the foreshore are packed every night???? Eat here - its got great vibes, great service and great food.

Delicious burgers and chips made with fresh ingredients. Great selection of beers and ciders. The staff are really friendly and accommodating to dietary requirements.

Absolutely the best burger I've eaten. Really high quality ingredients, good portion size (not too big) and really well matched to the beer.
