Review Shorty's Bar - Canberra

Mike Perry
Ive eaten here qiite a few times. Bit of a standard fair pub/food combo. It's always pretty packed so if you're after lunch - get there at a decent time. Nice little outside area for when the weather is warmer. It's tasty food and there's plenty to choose from. Some tasty beers on tap too! Almost forgot - they have some good lunch specials too. $15 burger and beer for example. Pretty hard to beat.

$15 burger, chips and drink deal on Thursday a great find. Veggie burger a bit greasy, but a rosti is a nice variation to sometimes stodgy veggie burgers. Nice space too, outdoor area and seating for groups upstairs. Food for a casual bite or drink. Staff could have been friendlier... Sad faces at the bar lol

Great food and variety! Definitely come back next time I visit canberra. Most tables were reserved on the Saturday night. I recommend booking a table for large groups.

Really 4.5 stars. Very friendly staff, good atmosphere, comfortable seating. I just thought the dark brown ale was a B+ even though it was on tap and from a local brewery. The menu looks interesting. We will go back and try the food.
David Gordon
Enjoyed a good meal. Staff were fantastic and really nice. Would go back just for the great service.

Best cocktail jugs in Canberra! I’ve been going with my partner every weekend to make sure to try all the cocktail jugs on offer. Now that I have, I’m due for a review! For starters, the jugs are $25 each - less than the price of two cocktails, amazing value! All of them are beautifully garnished and so tasty! Shortys has amazing food, for decent prices. The atmosphere is light and friendly with cute decorative items. This place is the ultimate pre-drink or late night location. Featured: our favourite, the crunk cooler!

Friendly place with pub atmosphere. Was highly impressed by the Wednesday steak and beer special - the steak was absolutely beautiful and tender. And the whole deal was just $20. :-)

I ordered the double cheeseburger and chips plus beer deal for $15. The place was pretty busy with Christmas drinks and lunches. My order arrived after about 10 minutes. The food was great, the burger was American style and a pleasure to eat. The chips also cooked to perfection. Great value.

Function room hire was amazing, easily the most easy going and helpful staff. Couldn’t have been happier with the setup, food and all round customer service. Thanks so much guys!

Shortys your burgers and chips are to die for!!! Love the atmosphere and your drinks. The staff and service has always been very good too. Love eating and drinking there. But where’s the Mac and cheese gone?!?! If your burgers weren’t so amazing. I wouldn’t be coming anymore. And what the Mac and cheese has been replaced with, the “slaw” is very sad and gross. Just some cabbage and carrots with vinegar!!! I’d love to know why such an amazing tasting side has been removed from the main meals it came with.
Sav Ruppert
The cocktails are great! Love that the staff are able to come up with tasty combinations, Ash is especially creative and knows how to make a killer cocktail

We did the 100 tacos for $100, it was a good experience and tasty but despite having to book two days in advance we were told when the first bought out our food that they might not have enough fillings for refills... sure enough when we asked for our first refill for beef they had run out! Also weird that they don’t include cheese, who eats tacos without cheese?!

Went to shortys with a couple of friends, and Nabaan’s customer service skills were outstanding.. I would 100% recommend shortys to a friend

Eat bar ever. Seriously Zac Graham is the best waiter ever
Michael Oates
The Shorty’s staff are a blast, great food and great atmosphere

Lost wallet with cash, all id’s and licenses at shorty’s and thanks to the staff and great security it was returned the next day with nothing missing, massive thank you to everyone there

Booked a table for 14 people, had an awesome time, we were served by the beautiful Maddi and she was awesome!!! Would definitely recommend

I think their food should be higher rated. The relatively low rate might be because of the high price. Mr Yu’s double cheese burger was juicy and flavorful, even better than Grease Monkey’s. My Falafel salad was also good.
Kriti
Went for food and drinks to the place and really liked the vibe.It was pretty busy but the staff were courteous and attentive
Josie
We ordered a cocktail jug as well as a burger and chips each. Beef and bacon burger was nice. Chips unfortunately had cinnamon sprinkled on top. Not sure why. Veg burger was a bit too burnt. Sweet potato chips were good just slightly too salty. Overall not a bad meal. The service was good. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Bacon Jam! Not since truffle mayo has a burger ingredient excited me this much! The bacon jam at Shorty’s is delicious! The classic beef burger it comes on is also delicious. Go on Thurs nite and you can have this delicious burger and a beer for $15!!! As Arnie says... “I’ll be back!!”

I like to come here for their lunch deals during the week ($15 meal and a drink). So far I’ve enjoyed their Tuesday schnitzels and Thursday double cheeseburgers. Service is super friendly but can be hit and miss depending on how busy they are. Their food is super tasty and the portion is adequate. I will definitely be back!

I'd been traipsing around Canberra for many hours. ( So many damn circles ) and had worked up a hunger that could fell a man. Not being a local fellow I didn't know where to head. A sign outside Shorty's mentioned burgers. I peeped in the window to see people drinking also. Bang! Through the door I strode and promptly ordered a Southern Fried Chicken Burger and a pint of Boags. The promised crinkle cut chips were the clincher. <br/> I was mid way through my beer when a disappointing looking plate arrived. I don't know what was "Southern" about it. Perhaps the chicken once lived in Victoria? It was certainly fried though. Perhaps repeatedly? Iceberg lettuce and a few slices of tomato rested under the supermarket schnitzel and it was all glued shut with chipotle mayo. It was on a par with a burger you'd get from a caravan at the footy with a teenager manning the fryer.<br/> The eagerly anticipated crinkle cut chips were mostly hollowed out dark brown shells of former chips. The potato fried out of them many days ago.<br/> All the points go to that fantastic pint of Boags. It was the greatest beer I'd had that day. I in fact had two.
Catherine MacLean
Disappointing visit- limited menu focusing heavily on deep fried food. I had a salad but so glad I asked to add chicken as it would have been even more light than it ended up being! Cool decor, but wouldn't return.

Great on a Thursday and Saturday. Music is always great and a good atmosphere for pre drinks. The vegie burger is good and the chips are great. A few friends got med-rare steaks which were very very undercooked which was a shame. The cocktail jugs are delicious and so is the food, only thing I've found is it may be on the overpriced side for what it is.

Today we are visiting a great little gastropub, conveniently located in the city. Shorty’s is owned by the COCU food empire, who also own my favourite Italian place, Provini, which is located next door. These guys know how to do food and the menu at the pub reflects this.  There are some exciting food trends represented. I am very into Pork Bahn Mi at the moment and you can sample them as an entree trio of mini sliders. You can also get crispy fried squid, crispy ducks wings or prawn tacos. For a lighter touch there are a range of salads available and one of the more interesting options is the roasted cauliflower salad. I know I should order it to try it out but I just can’t bring myself to order salad at a pub.
Clean The Plate
Shorty’s advertises itself as a bar, but it also serves food. It is known for its Monday-Wednesday lunch specials ($15.00 on each day for burgers, chicken parmigiana or steak, respectively. Due to this it meets the budget brief but we decided to go on a different day and try two of the specials and one other menu item.

After an afternoon of heated negotiations on where to eat (media people!) the team finally arrived at a choice for our evening in Canberra and we headed over to the nearby and bustling venue of Shorty’s. I quite liked the vibe of the place and encountered success on Pokemon Go whilst here, but some of the food we ordered on the night was less successful.

Last week Jarrod and I went out for drinks (happy hour at Marble & Grain. $5 spirits!) and then off to dinner at Shorty’s. I’d classify Shorty’s as a Gastropub based on their offerings and pricing. On the night we went they had a $15 steak and drink (called Steak and Shake for some reason, even though there are no shakes involved) deal that also includes chips and salad.

Located in the alleyway where Gus Cafe is, it's easy to miss noticing Shorty's. But you you shouldn't because it's quite the hidden gem if you want a quick meal and a drink. All four beers on tap are excellent (the two White Rabbits, Little Creatures and James Squire's Orchard Crush), as for the food, the beer battered fish I order arrived quickly and was good, but for that price I feel I could have gotten a bit more fish. I ordered the deep fried golden gaytime for dessert and it was sinfully good. They also have steak nights and a breakfast menu on weekends so definitely will check out the place again in future!
Felipe Hormazábal
Nice Burger, although it needed a bit of salt. good size burger. But definitely, the best was the draft beer, a very good White Rabbit Dark Ale Beer. Good fries!
Semi
Great for a few drinks and some nibbles on a Friday afternoon after work. Never actually been for a "meal". It has a good vibe if you just wish for somewhere to chill out.
Taylor
the food is great I had the vegetarian burger and the fried golden gaytime dessert it is so good! definitely a good place to come after work and have a couple of drinks good atmosphere
Fare Comment
After a trip to wine country, it was a toss up between visiting a country pub, or making tracks back to the “city” for some lamb ribs at Shorty’s. The Dutchman vows these are the best ribs in Canberra, so off we go, only to find that they are no longer on the menu… Fail. The menu is a mix of pub fare with some Asian and Mexican twists, but there is a burger and it needs to be tried… It does taste a bit like a Whopper, but it’s juicy and bacony so it’s passable, however, the bun is a little too sweet. The chips, although sprinkled in some sort of spicy seasoning, lack flavour and need to be salted.

I was craving a burger in Canberra and my workmate informs me I can get a good feed at Shorty's. We rocked up before 6pm and half the restaurant was already full. I was happy with the positive signs and the fact I manage to get a seat outside.<br/><br/>From their limited burger range I ended up settling for their Soft Shell Crab Burger with Lettuce, Avocado, Coriander and Sriracha Mayo. Not usually my meat of choice but I was getting a bit tired of the usual beef or chicken variety. The burger itself was average at best. The soft shell crab had more batter than meat and it was quite dense batter as well. Presentation in general lacked lustre and the dryness was intensified by the lack of sauce. The highlight of the dish was their crinkle cut chips dusted in paprika goodness.<br/><br/>As a starter/side I ordered their Grilled Corn on the Cob with Chipotle Mayo and Parmesan. The chipotle mayo and parmesan was the weapon needed to boost their non-sweet, dry and slight charred corn. It was plated well and tasted fine... I just wish they invested into some better produce.<br/><br/>My friend had their Grilled Beef Burger with Bacon Jam, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles and Dijonnaise. It definitely looked better than the soft shell crab at least.<br/><br/>I couldn't help myself and ordered their Deep Fried Golden Gaytime with Honeycomb and Caramel. It came out quite presentable... nothing over the top. The flavours of the honeycomb and caramel was paired perfectly.<br/><br/>It was only when I broke the crunchy coating that my face filled with disappointment. The ice-cream inside did not have sufficient freezing time and the was literally Gaytime water. It oozed all over the plate and my dessert became some lame sweet soup. Totally not worth the calorie hit.<br/><br/>Shorty's is located on the main street in the City with their entrance in the alleyway. I definitely love the feel of the place and the staff was top notch... but I'd only come back for a drink and those chips. <br/><br/>All food can be ordered at the bar and they'll give you a number. I liked their outdoor seating that looks back out onto Tongue and Groove.<br/><br/>I was uncertain by their hit and miss reviews and now I understand. It's not all bad and nothing a lil' fine tuning to their menu can't solve.

This pub has a great atmosphere and great customer service, but the food is a little lacking. <br/><br/>The beef brisket burger was a little charred and dry, and needed more kimchi slaw to balance out the slab of meat. The aioli needed more flavour.<br/><br/>The chicken was too dry but there was a generous amount.<br/><br/>The chips have a great spice rub however.<br/><br/>We booked and ordered ahead of time because we had quite a large group, and the customer service was fantastic. <br/><br/>

Nice beer and food! Like the music and food, love it! I never expect bar food will be such delicious, this one surprised me and brings me back again and again. We order the burger and salad, definitely beer each time!

A buzzing abundance of life!<br/>Cocktails and fun come here to get it done!<br/>Delicious cocktails full of fruity flavours everyone will find something to please them.<br/>Music was pumping for a Saturday night and it was a struggle to find a table for 2 to chill at for a couple of hrs but we got one! Definitely recommend this venue for pre-drinks! <br/>

I can't comment on the food, as I stopped in here for drinks only with friends the other night. Lovely ambiance, nice and cosy window seating and informal areas to relax. Good vibes, good times.

What a disgrace $15 rump comes out cold and under cooked the chef was adamant that he had just cooked the 4 steaks and they were hot!! Cold mushroom gravy is not meant on hot steak!! The disappointing thing was the chef didn't address the issue or offer to recook staying behind the the security of his kitchen leaving the young waitress to attend to his error!! Four unhappy patriots will leave with a very SHORT taste in our mouths!! Shame a chef forgets the basic rules of catering 101! <br/>Management needs to reassess their chef!!

Excellent service, great atmosphere and delicious food! Came in on a Wednesday night with friends to cure our mid-week blues. Ordered the $15 steak and drink special! My steak was cooked exactly how I like it (medium rare), the mushroom sauce was fantastic and the chips an added bonus. The house white wine was surprisingly on point, and the beer options perfect for my companion. <br/>A mixed crowd, the music created a fun and unique ambience, with cool artwork lining the walls. <br/>The staff were very helpful.

I started with a packaged cocktail, I wasn’t sure what I was ordering and had a picture in my mind of a premix or bottled cocktail. I was pleasantly surprised when it came out just like a bubble tea, we almost expected there to be sago! It was a fresh and different way to serve and make a cocktail. We ordered the crinkle cut chips, it’s one of those snacks everyone had as a child and there’s a bit of nostalgia about having them now. Whether the crinkle is for the seasoning or the crunch started a debate at our table. The conclusion we came to was the seasoning was great and gathered in the crinkles but the crunch factor was lacking. We also tried the pulled pork nachos. The combination of delectable pulled pork and nachos was something we couldn’t refuse. Disappointingly the cheese got caught under the meat so we missed the oozing top, but the pork was as tender and juicy as we were hoping. It was a decent meal and satisfying though I doubt we needed that much sour cream and it became difficult to eat the more we got into it.

Great food, service and atmosphere!. The fish and chips (dinner menu) was delicious! The chips have some fantastic spice to it which made them so yummy! Great atmosphere. The waiters behind the bar were very polite and friendly. Not the cheapest place but I didn't mind paying for the great service and atmosphere.

On point, Shawtay.. Love this place. It's our local fave. Burgers are amazing. Even the steak is fantastic, impressed my fussy Mum! Try the grilled corn appetiser, it rocks. Great selection of beer and wine, arguably the best of all Civic pubs. Lots of happy hour and meal deals to keep it awesome. Staff friendly, funny and prompt. Great vibe. LOVE. IT.

Wow dat parmy ey. Amazing parmy. friendly staff. prompt service. chicken burger and deserts were amazing too.

Food way over priced!. The food is way over priced and looks and tasted like a club meal. Very disappointed:( just didn't suit the atmosphere.

Call that hospitality?. I visited Shorty's for coffee and dessert on a Sunday evening. We had the fried golden gaytime with honeycomb and chocolate sauce (delicious) and the Reese's icecream sundae (also fantastic). However, the food was not what prompted me to write this review.<br/>Having worked in the hospitality industry as bar staff, a barista and a waitress for 6 years, I would like to think I know a little something about hospitality. The waiter who attempted to clear our plates was by far the most unpleasant and least hospitable waiter I have ever encountered. He first came over to the table in a very intrusive manner and rudely asked if we wanted our plates cleared. We still had some dessert left and I gently protested. This set him off and he loudly chided me for 'eating more than my share, being greedy, having that look in my eyes like I was going to devour the whole plate, telling me to calm down, relax, he wasn't going to take the plate, etc., etc.' This struck me as very odd and offensive. He left, only to come back 5 minutes later (we were still not really finished with our dessert) and stand behind us, saying that he was going to be 'creepy, really creepy, yes that really creepy guy who just lurks behind women' until he was allowed to clear the plates. He stood behind the chairs in this same fashion until we relented and asked him to promise if he took away the plates that he wouldn't come back. His response was a victorious 'I win this round!'<br/><br/>My dining experience at Shorty's was made so unpleasant by this extremely rude, intrusive, odd and thoroughly awful waiter. I will not be going back for fear of running into him again.

40 minutes for pink chicken. I had previously had a great time at Shortys, good food, okay service and good vibes. I suggested the place to my partner because I thought I'd get the same experience. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken with coleslaw and corn. 40 minutes later our meals were brought out and looked delicious. I tucked into the chicken to find it was pink in the middle and had really pink juices coming out of it. I asked the waiter to come over and then said the chicken was pink. He dug around in my meal for a while before telling me it was just tender and not to worry about but he'll see what the chef says. The problem with an open kitchen is the fact everyone can see in and are privy to frustrated chefs and waiters. After they'd glared at me sitting 10 paces away, the chef threw my meal back in the oven. 15 minutes later the meal was brought back out and three people, including 2 chefs and the original waiter stood and watched me eat my meal. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant before. I didn’t ask for my money back or act in an impolite manner, but I was treated so poorly just for being a little uncomfortable about eating pink chicken.

Best breakfast!. I went for breakfast with three others. I had the sliders with pork belly, egg and chilli jam. They were AMAZING and I am keen to go back and have the exact same thing again. Love the hot chocolate with real chocolate, not chocolate powder. My companions ordered poached eggs with bacon or smoked salmon and they loved their meals too. I'll definitely go there again.<br/><br/>I really love their interior styling too.

The eggplant and chickpea tagine on the specials board was TO DIE FOR! Beautifully presented and the flavours complemented each other perfectly. Fantastic work to the chef who created this! Will definitely be back, I hope it becomes a regular item :)
Bub
Really disappointing. I ordered the rare beef Asian salad and it was truly awful. The beef appeared to be pieces of very stringy chuck steak or gravy beef with a border of uncooked fat. The salad had a very strange taste which I could not identify. The only edible part of the dish were the cherry tomatoes. When the waitress cleared the plates I told her that I could not eat any of it. We sat talking for at least 15 minutes after that and no-one came back to us. I certainly won't be returning to this restaurant.

Fantastic atmosphere and staff to match!. I have been to Shorty's on numerous occasions and never seem to be disappointed. The atmosphere is great, food is always delicious and the staff are attentive, friendly and make my time there delightful.<br/><br/>I generally come down for business trips to Canberra which I did again on Thursday. I would like to make special note that the staff went out of their way on numerous occasions to make me feel welcome as I was dinning alone! <br/><br/>Fantastic place and id highly recommend it!
Mitch
Good burgers for lunch, great lunch + drink specials during the week. Staff are always friends and the coffee is pretty good. Great casual meeting spot.
A Bite In Time
Lack of cold drinks. I was absolutely baffled when I visited Shorty's for the first time and I attempted to order an iced coffee, only to be told they didn't do it. When I asked instead for a milkshake, I was also told they didn't do this - seems like a huge oversight to not offer these kind of cold drinks as a bar that is open during the day and competing with cafes. Service was pretty lacklustre on the floor, but I did find on a later visit (at night, only ordering drinks) that the bartenders were nice and easy to get along with!
Nif
Very dissapointed. Their gluten free items come into contact with wheat and flour so aren't suitable for coeliacs
Bramble.cm
Best steak sandwich ever. The steak was nicely charred on the outside without being burnt and the perfect shade of pink inside. Chips were great too. The other half enjoyed the chicken parmigiana because it was done the real Italian way - the tomato sauce didn't dominate the other flavours as is sadly often the case. I am only in Canberra a couple of times a year but will try to eat at Shorty's again. Christine

Great decor. Visited Shorty's for the first time on a Friday night for dinner.<br/>The decor is fantastic, much like a groovy cafe in one of Melbourne's many alleyways. <br/>Unfortunately the atmosphere was incredibly crowded and noisy, made it impossible to have a conversation with the bass so loud and our neighbouring table basically on our lap.<br/>The food was presented very well and was reasonably priced however the pork dishes were far too sweet.<br/>Service was average, very difficult to identify staff members due to lack of uniform.
Heidiho118
Great experience for group dinner. Recently organised a 21st celebration at Shorty's for 16 diners and could not fault the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful in regards to organising a bar tab and food orders. The upstairs section was perfect for a group dinner and everyone enjoyed the food which included gluten free options. The bar service was also prompt and friendly - thanks for making the evening enjoyable.
Le Taureau
Non-existent service which kinda fits because the kitchen doesn't open despite the red herring of menus and cutlery scattered around the establishment. Bar man was like a rabbit in the headlights - just didn't know what to say or do. All part of Canberra's guessing game when it come to cafes and restaurants. Even when they're open they're not open.
Olive At Mawson
First time here, love to support a local business and what can I say very well presented fit out. <br/>Already had a big breki but wanted to try desert Deepfried Gaytime WOW AMAZING, We will be back

Looks good on the outside.. But that's where it ends. The service was not good at all, staff were rude and I couldn't even tell who worked there because they weren't dressed for work.. Just casual in jeans and grubby tshirts. The food was disappointing. The pulled pork burger wasn't good the pork was much too sweet and cold and the bun was soggy. The chips were ok but not worth the $20 odd I spent to get a whole<br/>meal. If I wanted a bucked of chips I could have bought it for $3 and saved myself the disappointment.
Shane
Great friendly staff with amazing food the burgers are the best I have ever eaten and I went back two days in a row for the grilled corn. Don't leave Canberra with out a feed and a few beers at this great bar. Well done to the owners and staff.

Pretty Meh.
Smileyclown
Overated - nice bar, terrible food. Pulled pork was too sweet, not smokey enough, soggy roll. Disappointing. Chips were tasty though. <br/><br/>Won't be going back.
Amity
Very underwhelming....
Grace
Average at best. My first time experience was nothing but bland and overpriced. Cold pork burger and the 'chicken skewers' with tortilla's had such a measly amount of salad not to mention the lettuce was brown and slimy. Thought I'd give dessert a go and no such luck there either, dry black Forrest cake awaited me. Won't be going back and won't be recommending this place to anyone. STAY CLEAR!
Lisa Liu
Nice experience before I leave Canberra, the staffs are friendly, and the food is good and not so flavoured, I like the environment
Sunny
Hit and miss. I came here twice on two consecutive Sundays at around the same time. The first time I had the pulled BBQ pork burger which came out with a side of nicely seasoned HOT chips (that lacks salt, but you can sprinkle as much salt as you want) and perfectly creamy aioli. The pork is a bit too sweet for my liking, but still good overall, 4/5.<br/><br/>The second time I visited Shorty's (at around the same time on a Sunday), the food took much longer to come out, perhaps because I ordered dessert to come out at the same time. The house cured duck prosciutto salad was a big disappointment - the prosciutto was very salty and could not balance out the bitterness of LOTS OF rocket leaves. My friend ordered the chicken skewers with soft tortillas which were served like tacos. It did not live up to her expectations. I tried one "taco" from her plate and it was only average to my taste also. The deep-fried golden gaytime was extraordinary though! My friend's choice of dessert, black forest cake with cherry icecream, however, was not really like the authentic black forest cake. The icecream was good but the cake was more like brownie.<br/><br/>Overall my experience so far with Shorty's is more like hit-and-miss. Be prepared to raise your voice for normal conversations here as it is rather loud inside. I am hoping to go to Shorty's one more time (and definitely have the deep-fried Golden Gaytime again!)
Pasqual Carnival
Great service, was acknowledged twice in very short succession upon entering. I then had their system of service explained to me which is good for new establishment. <br/>The food wasn't great, however. I had the chicken parmigiana which was made with very thick cut ham and the tomato sauce had a sweet flavour to it neither of which I enjoyed.
Stu
Great food and atmosphere. The food is excellent. The pulled pork burger on a brioche roll is amazing! It's like eating succulent sweet bbq ribs on a burger! The tapas is great, bean dip with fried tortilla was excellent too. Great selection of beers and wines, and the venue is fitted out well with a trendy yet comfortable pub atmosphere. <br/>Haven't tried the packaged cocktails yet but nifty idea!<br/>Definitely the new local for me! If only they were open later on sundays though!!
Cul8r
Go else where. Very disappointed. Breakfast is below average in quality. I would expect to see and taste better quality with a limited menu. The decor is beautiful but I would not return, which is a pity. I would recommend the owner to read everyone's remarks and suggest driving to Sydney and having breakfast at "three blue ducks"..... Fix your menu and you might have future people return as patrons.
SnowyKiara
Very disappointed..... Food is expensive for the size you are getting and doesn't even taste nice.... Wont be going back there again.....

Undewhelmed but..... Went for lunch after being hyped up on the idea of deep fried gaytimes and curious to see what else they offered. Ordered the beef burger which arrived within a reasonable amount of time with a side of fries given that it was about 3/4 full on a Friday lunchtime. Visually it was delicious but I was a bit meh about it, just didnt seem to have much flavour given the lengthy list of fancy (for a burger) ingridients it supposedly contained. Having said that, its nice to see Canberra get a venue like this, it needs one and its early days and I have after all only tried one dish. Time will tell.
S
Short and sweet. Had a nice lunch here sitting on the deck area on a spectacular Canberra autumn day. A step up from the slightly grimy and exposed feel of sitting outside back in the Milk and Honey days. <br/><br/>The grilled corn on the cob ($4 ea) was sweet, juicy and well-flavoured with the cumin butter and lime. My companion seemed to enjoy his beef burger, wolfing it down quickly. The pulled pork burger was a little too sweet and tough for my liking but still passable. Both burgers ($17 ea) came with a good serving of crinkle-cut fries and aioli.<br/><br/>The menu is sufficiently varied while reflecting all the latest trends, for better or worse. Don't expect the service to be too attentive, either - after all, you order at the bar and are pretty much left alone thereafter.
Monty
Food not as good as milk and honey. I would be happy to wait 45minutes if the food was good but sorry no
Michele Walton
Deep fried Golden Gaytime with sticky caramel and honeycomb $11 (not a great pick as it melts quickly, and not suitable to share).
Mouthless Mutters
... ordered a serving of the honey and five spice duck wings with fresh lime, something I’d wanted to try since I first saw it on their menu. Wowsa these were awesome! There’s not a lot of meat on the bones, but the marinade is delicious and is perfected with a good squeeze of lime. These are quite messy, as you eat them with your fingers and honey dribbles down your hand/arm, but it’s worth it. I wasn’t drinking beer, but I can see these being a good accompaniment to a nice cold beer. I had intended to eat these myself, but it’s quite a large serve (probably about eight wings), so the boys helped me out.
Food Avenue
Observing the quirky and eclectic decor of the recent additions to the Canberra scene (e.g. Elk and Pea, Me and Mrs Jones, Smoque, Honky Tonks) I have come to a conclusion: there must be only one interior designer working in Canberra.
TheUnicornMum
The pork was divine! Not really "pulled" as they were more like tiny strips, but nicely marinated and absolutely covered in thick sweet tasty sauce. I couldn't really taste the creamy dressing that normally comes with coleslaw but it went really well with the pulled pork. I didn't try the bread, but it looked quite sugary and buttery. The chips were freshly fried, all crispy and salty. Yum

The 'sanga' was a brilliant modern take on the traditional Vietnamese banh mi. Instead of a traditional pork filling, the crusty bread roll was filled with deep fried soft-shell crab and avocado replaced the pate. And in line with tradition, the usual suspects of pickled carrots, chilli and coriander were all present. The crab was crispy and well seasoned, the avocado was smooth and creamy and offset both the fried crab and the pickled carrots beautifully. I hope this one gets added to the regular menu, because it's definitely a hit.
